After a quick praccy I'm getting 1:06 in the Lotus Cortina. The Ford GT is 3 secs slower. Expect aliens to be sub 1:00.

It was done by Ronny van de Pol.  He used to do a movie of each race but the time it takes proved to be too much to keep going.

Shame because I think that it helps with recruitment.

Not to worry Capt. Clive ;D  Hotkeys chief mechanic is a sly fellow, and he has come up with a few suggestions for minor changes to prepare our cars for Knockhill:

And you're in the  GTA 1300 Alfa Junior right ?

Looks promising then, 'cause I can go below 1.02  in the Mustang TA.

I wonder what the GTA 1600 and the Cortinas can do here.

I will try both the Alfas this evening, just to see the lap time difference.

I should be able to race this Thursday... I hope so ;)

D'oh ! no i was in the 1600cc  :-[ had forgotten we had the ranking here too, i'd assumed i was in the same car for 3 rounds  ??? but hadnt appreciated we get a slower version of it based on results ! Isnt that going to hinder us non-aliens a tad too far? After all, the slowest stang is still a fair bit faster than the slowest cortina or Alfa  :-\  I also think places 1-6 is a bit wide ranging considering the top 4 boys are a country mile ahead on track of us 5th and 6th placers !  :P

First laps with the Alfa Junior, and I managed a 1.01.8 in qualif.2 session with race fuel so far.

Didn't try the Alfa GTA 1600 yet, and I would like to race with the smaller one, at least if someone of the faster driver will not go too much faster than this laptime. Probably a low 1.01. is possible with quali fuel onboard, but I didn't try yet.
Hope to see you on Thursday ;)

Manteos, just wanted to check that you were aware that whichever make you drive at this race you will also have to use at the next (Donington). And that depending on your league position you car choice will be further limited. The race announcement has the details but post back here if your in any doubt OK?

I've done my best to break through the barrier at the end of the straight!

A 1:02.2 was my best last night in the BSCC but it is a transient thing.  It means that I have to do my best lap just as the tyres come up to temperature, as the next lap they are liquid.

LOL  They were actually better in the damn rain!

Just another point on this race.
I'm a fan of the BTCC champ, and I watched some videos on youtube of Knockhill race with modern cars. I saw that no one keep the 4 tyres on the grey stuff at the chicane before the first sector, cause it's almost impossible to do it without "cutting" on the curb. Are we allowed to do it as the BTCC drivers?

P.S. BTCC it's one of the best champ ever! It's a pity that my idol Fabrizio Giovanardi is no longer a BTCC driver :(. I saw him driving at Mugello Circuit in the SuperStars championship 2 years ago, and it was the only driver to complete an overtake at the Casanova-Savelli downhill with the Porsche Panamera..... simply CRAZY :o :o :o
This is the video of that race. The overtake is at 4.50 mins. Amazing race, considering that Panamera was the slowest car on the straight... "Piedone" is the italian nickname of Giovanardi... Translated in english is "Big Foot"  ;D ;D ;D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDs0MRQ8Esw (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDs0MRQ8Esw)

Here it's one of the best overtake ever by Giovanardi in BTCC at Snetterton... I cry every time I watch this video!! Absolute first-class driver ;D ;D ;D

I'm in the mood of memories, and when I saw this driver from Argentina and these 3 final laps I was very thrilled by his victory. It was the final race of the Touring Cars 2000 Argentine champ, and he was fighting for the lead of the champ against Silvio Oltra, that was in 2nd place in the champ standings. Who had won the race, would have been the champion.

His name is Juan Maria Traverso, glory of the Argenine motoring, abord of the Renault "Fuego"... "Fuego" means "fire" in english, and this name was very appropriate for that car ;D

Not everyone can say to have finished a race in these conditions. It's worth watching this video ;)

P.S. Don't cry when you see it  ;D Sorry for the off topic :(

That was mostly fun!  :)

qualied well in 4th? But then got caught napping at the green light and two guys got past me. Had an enjoyable first 13 laps or so battling Matt and superswift in their faster Mann Cortinas.
Then my rear brakes started to cook and wouldnt cool down by the end of the long back straight, which made for some pretty hairy braking  :P
Inevitably the hot rear brakes put me into a long slow turnaround at T1 that i tried desperately to hold, and i lost about 15 secs to the guys i was battling with  :(
Then had clear track and drove like a loon hoping they would make a mistake up ahead.

Towards the end i caught Matt again and chased him hard for about 10+mins, getting him down to about 3.5 secs with 3 laps remaining, but alas the hot brakes gave me a real lairy moment at the end of the long straight and i was pitched into the gravel. I was a bit fingers and thumbs with my gears and nearly reversed into Clive (who i couldnt see) but thankfully he sailed past  :sweatdrop:

Finished a lonely 5th.  Told you the stangs would wipe the field here  ;)

(on a side note, what happened to the bottom half of the grid tonight? They seemed miles off the pace despite quicker cars ??? No offence, just wondering why such a big gap behind Les - think it was 30+ secs by lap13 !!). Was it the tricky track? or incidents?

Great track for historics this  8)

Yeah, I wondered that. I was having a pretty lonely race in 6th with about 30 seconds gap in front and behind. I liked the track a lot, but the brakes started catching me out towards the end too

Not sure the Mann is "faster" than the Alfa Jnr. Alfa gets round the bends better, and seems to pull much the same speed on the
straights. I don;t know why I opted to run Tinas for this leg, I have never been able to get to grips with the brakes
they either lock up the fronts or make the back end unstable. I just went with default setup eventually
and was easier to drive than my "faster" one. Still, good race, lots of dicing with Superfast at first until the rear brakes
locked into T1 and I went across the beach, then had a couple of battles with MJ but he fell off more than I did towards
the end.
EDIT: Oh yeh, forgot about KS's kamikaze attack which flipped me onto my roof for a while
untill the game put me right way up  :o Not sure you ruined my race, Super fast was a bit
quicker anyway, and I managed to stay in front of MJ so no harm done.

Post by: SpecialKS on February 10, 2012, 10:13:38 AM +0000
Hmmmh

had a good quali and was able to find another second - so I was content and confident for the race.

I'm a slow and careful starter, cause I don't want to loose the race in the first corner, so I dropped
from 8 to 12.
Realised that the Alfa GTA 1300 could brake notable later and go way faster through the corners than the
Tina's but lost ground on the straights due to worse acceleration  ??? (choose a setup with the shortest
possible gearing which gave me my fastest laptimes).
Unfortunately I could not handle this piece of luck in a right manner  ???
So my later braking led to two contacts with Alex and Bill within the first laps because I wasn't aware of
theses big differences yet. Sorry guys - hope that you hadn't too big problems due to that.

So I dropped to last and had a lonely race interrupted by lapping and a short intermezzo with Sandor who
had his own problems.

Then Matt on third lapped me and after that I simply missed my braking point before the hairpin and couldn't
avoid to push him into sand and barriers  :(  I fear that this destroyed his race and he lost his third place - really
sorry Matt - and decided to finish the race in defensive style .

But I love this track which was new to me!

@ Mark J : yes - there were a lot of incidents during the first part of the race in the bottom part of the field which
caused that big gap.

With the times that Manteos was putting in with the Alfa Junior the other night, plus Stig in the TransAm, Geoffers and Tim in Mustangs, Ade likely to appear and the Mustang's tyres glowing red; I was thinking before we started that anything in the top six was going to be a result!  I wasn't too sure who else in an Alfa might also be a threat over the full race distance.

We already knew that John couldn't make it and then both Manteos and Geoffers let me off as well!  The Alfa threat never appeared and for some reason Ade planted himself in a wheelbarrow!  (Good news for Donnington too!  ;D )

Just before the server was started I found another half second and got below the 1:02 mark and all was set for a good night.

Stig was quicker over a lap but he didn't move off the line fast enough so I was able to take the lead when the lights went green.  I assume they went green because I couldn't see them through Stig's car!

Stig didn't seem able to stay close enough at the hairpin to make his +28bhp count for much but he was obviously quicker overall.  I decided that I wanted to let my "teamie" pass me but had to wait until he came close enough and Tim had dropped far enough back.  Well, I let Stig through but had Tim all over me as I had to lift a lot on the straight.

I still felt comfortable as Tim couldn't get into a position to pass me either..............until we were lapping people.

Stig vanished around lap 13ish and then I had to lap an Alfa.  The Mustang made good gains on the straight but I found myself going into T1 on the wrong line and too fast.  After my brush with the barrier Tim had taken the lead and it was time to put some pressure on.  ;D

We had a good scrap and eventually, I suspect with one eye on his fuel gauge, he over shot at the hairpin and I was back in front; and this time I had a lead of a couple of seconds.   :jumpjoy:

At that point I felt that the race was mine to lose but I'm sure that every time that I thundered down the back straight I spotted a dust cloud about the size of a house at the hairpin.  One of these was MJ, who then tried to scare the life out of me by appearing to reverse onto the track.

Tim had to stop for fuel but then managed to regain second spot from SuperSWIFT.

Good to see you in here SS.  Make sure you have a good read of the rules or your chances of turning up in the right car are limited.  ;D

Hard luck to Stig, who I suspect disconnected as his car vanished from my replay before it hit the barrier.

Never had back to back wins in a series before so I'm well chuffed, no matter how they have come about!  ;D  Like they say, it isn't how it's how many!

Yup, that's exactly it  ;D
My fuel light had been flashing for 2 laps so decided it would be a good time to see how many laps were left in the race and my tank...
Answer was another 1, maybe 2 in the tank and about 5/6 in the race  :ninja:
This rapid calculating plus the fact I'd switched to chase cam to see the laps remaining ment I missed my braking point and bounced off the barriers  :-[

Shame, as was a great battle and one I recon I could have won if I'd stayed focused (And had enough fuel  :whistling: ), but the final dice with SS made up for my stalling in the pit lane and the marginal refueling attempt (I finished with 0.3Gal in the tank even after my emergency stop  :D

Yup.

I think that the advantage is with the bloke in front here but I don't think you would have finished with all your brake lights working.

I figured that I needed synchronised braking with you at the hairpin!  ;D

And I was bound to get that wrong once or twice. ::)

Love the Cortina. Maybe a bit off the pace but it is a joy to race for an amateur driver like me. I even can slide it around corners (well... sometimes).

(on a side note, what happened to the bottom half of the grid tonight? They seemed miles off the pace despite quicker cars ??? No offence, just wondering why such a big gap behind Les - think it was 30+ secs by lap13 !!). Was it the tricky track? or incidents?
What Eifel said and the fact that giving room on a twisty narrow circuit like this will lose you more time hence enlarging the gap to the front runners.

Congrats to Clive for the victory. Scary sight to see three Mustangs thundering down on my little Cortina  :-\ Hope I gave you guys enough room.

I figured that I needed synchronised braking with you at the hairpin!  ;D

And I was bound to get that wrong once or twice. ::)

I nearly clobbered you at least once  ;D

I'm thinking of putting out a missing person notice on Stig.

We haven't heard from him at SBRC HQ since he vanished from Knockhill!

I'm worried that he might have taken a hammer to his PC.

Finally, I’m registered! Thanks again for your help Tony!

Most of you might know me from other races/forums as I usually race in the WNR races at NoGrip (only P&G for me) and before that, the GamersCrib P&G WSL series as organized by Mogget. It was Geoffers that pointed me to your Goodwood Endurance race on December 30th, when I participated for the first time in your league.

I'm normally a midfield performer and never expected to finish in 3th position for the Knockhill race! The ‘Stangs were just too fast on this track, but Stig made it very exciting the last few laps when he had to pit for fuel and I was on 2nd position for a very short time!

Hope to join in your series again next time 8)

Glad you made it in. Your race result should be transposed to the champ table now your registered. BTW It's P&G here every Thursday night. Just look up to the top of this page and to the right and click anything beginning with P7.......
