This is a superb track, one of my worldwide faves  8)

Thought i'd have a quick recon in the Mustang thinking it will be an ugly understeering mess here, but was pleasantly surprised, as the pace is a bit more sedate, making it more manageable. Faster cars are harder work here as easy to get a wheel off in the sand.

Only did 9 laps, mainly to check tyre pressures and camber.  1:49.1 so far.  :)  Front right appears to take some punishment. (sure it was front left at Portland !?)

Nothing to compare it against, so roll out your times...   :detective:

If you really want an understeery heap then try the Falcon Sprint.

1:49.1 in it but not likely to use it as the NTK feels much better.

The only advantage that the Falcon has over the Mustang is that they did actually fit it with brakes but I'm hard pressed to think of a track where that will make it a viable proposition.

I'm into the 45's in the NTK and the 46's in the Falcon Sprint, but there's not much more to come off of that.

1.47.600, in the Mustang NTK but it was a one off on low fuel, and I haven't been below 48 since.

I find the Falcon a bit easier to handle, but I'm a bit slower in it.

Holy sh..  ::) I knew from many races I watched in TV (Superbike, MotoGP,
IndyCar etc.) that Laguna especially the Corkscrew is one of the
most fascinating and most difficult corners/chicanes in motorsports - maybe
the most difficult, but nearly every lap ended there for me in a crash or at least
in a leaving of the track or a turner ???

My best so far in the BSCC Mustang 1.53.6 and in the NTC and Falcon Mann
only 2.00.5  :(.
Seems that the track is more suitable for smaller cars (could register a
1.48.7 in my beloved Simca Bertone 1200S  :D which I used for some laps
for learning the track).

Is there anybody out there who can please help me out with a basic setup for
the Mustang and/or the Falcon which enables me to master the Corkscrew?
Any encouragement would be highly appreciated.
Thank you very much.

Just approach it really slow would be my humble advice

SKS, lift the throttle and dab the brakes before you crest the hill at the top. You will see tyre marks laid down just as you approach the crest towards the right side of track, thats your brake marker! That will take some of the speed & momentum out of your charge, and then give it some heavy braking in as much a straight line as you can, slowing the car right down for the corkscrew, which ive been taking in 1st in the heavy mustang!. Maybe up your front bump to 3 or more to help stop the car quicker.

Failing that pm me your email and i will buzz my NTK setup and a replay over  :)

edit..SKS, you have mail  ;)

Although Long Beach is now my closest home track I would consider this and Sears Point my real home tracks. When I was a Northern California resident it was great living 1 hour from Sears Point and 2 hours from Laguna Seca ;D.
I hope to make it for this one.
Did a few laps/Best times..
Falcon Mann 1:46.1
Mustang BSCC 1:46.7

bah, disaster for me too.  :(

Qualied okay in 5th behind Matt with clive just behind, so expecting a long close race.

But at T1 (despite me saying use caution   ::) ) i got hit from behind and also saw a falcon come steaming down the middle and take out 2 or 3 other cars  :o
that left me with just Tony for company with the front 3 already steaming off to a 5+ sec lead as they escaped the carnage. Got past Tony after a lap or two and found myself alone for a few laps with a 6+ sec lead in 4th.
Then totally innocuously, i exited the final corner, got a wheel on the skinny outside kerbing which spat me into the wall at low speed and flipped me onto my roof  ??? Race over early and i love this track  :'(
Buggered my 3rd in the champ table too  :(

Think there was only about 8 runners left when i DNF'd.

Took it nice and easy into T1, but was distracted by all the carnage behind and tapped Clive...  :death:
Sorry for  that, then chased and passed, fell off chased and passed fell off this time took off a wheel
so left. Fun for a while trying to get past Clive "My car is wider than yours" Loynes  ::)

Unofficial LapChart (http://www.justanotherpage.nl/Srou/PnG/LSFeb12/)

Not much to report. Tough track and all skill needed to keep it on the black stuff. After hitting a wall at the Cork steering was offset and ploughed on for a finish.

Congrats to 'Fast' John for again a victory and WT for the good result. Keep it up like this and you no longer in contention for the Gentlemen's Trophy  ;) (meant that as a compliment)

I wish I could of stayed for that one as it would of been a real challenge to stay ahead of John W. But I was expecting a conference call at 1:30 pm my time for an important personal issue(legal matter with a hospital...ya fun stuff  ::)). I was hoping that the call might be a bit late and I could get the race in but at 1:00 pm another call came and I was so thrown mentally that before I could check the caller id I dropped a wheel exiting turn 2 and weeeeee I went  :P. That said, the real call did come around 1:20 so I would of had to quit anyways but it would of been fun while it lasted ;D. To be totally honest I don't think I would of been able keep John W behind as my setup was far too neutral at the beginning and would of been a pushing pig around the halfway point and watching John W beautifully power sliding exiting out of the corners I could see his might be in much better shape late in the race. Plus if I didn't have the power of that Mann engine I'd been done for. John W would close the gap over and over only to have me drive away with that sweet motor. I might of used the Weslake Falcon but that car is a little weak on torque in the mid rpm range and I found the Mann powered car much more drivable at this track. And that one ATCC Mustang engine is just too ridiculously overpowered compared to the others. Tried it once in practice and it felt like someone slipped big block in that thing :o. Grats to John and great job podium and hey Tony for 4th!!!  8) Very nice!! Cheers

Great first third of the race last night :) Was going all-out trying to stay with with NRJ while at the same time keeping a watchful eye on Ade behind. Real shame about Navin, thought we would be going like that for the whole race. Eased of a bit near the end as I didn't want to get in the way of the fight for third place - looked like great fun.

Kudos to the guys that could have taken faster cars, but chose not to. Grats to Ade and to Clive for putting it on the podium after getting caught up in the shenanigans on the first lap. :thumbup1:

Had a good start of the line but lost a little momentum as I had to correct a power spin. Approached turn 1 and had Bill hit me on the left side which pushed me onto MJ's Mustang. Then watched Bill go on to spear Matt's Falcon which was stationery after colliding with Clive. Unlucky Bill, any other day you would just have sailed into the gravel. Just bad luck that you collected the aftermath of another collision.
After all that excitement I think I was 3rd! Couldn't last and I was soon caught by MJ, Clive and a pursuing Matt. Don't remember the exact order of events but I know I passed MJ after he became part of the tyre wall after the final left hander. Gave up position way to easily to the cunning Clive and was also passed by Matt. Then followed Clive and Matt's battle for several laps whilst watching the gap behind me to Hotkey's Mustang decrease lap by lap. Couldn't prevent Hotkeys catching and passing me and so I settled down to watch Hotkeys try to pass Clive. We all passed Matt who had an off after the first turn and so the three of us (Hotkeys, Clive and I) chased for the last podium place all the way to the checkered flag.
I managed to out pace Hotkeys on the start finish straight and then pursued Clive. On the last lap I took a desperate lunge into a gap at the top of Corkscrew but overshot the turn and hit the far barrier which fortunately bounced me back onto the track pointing in the right direction. I drove off but was worried that neither Clive not Hotlaps appeared in my mirrors. Fearing that my pass attempt had caused Clive to crash I gave up my place to him before the chequered flag. It was only after watching the replay that I realised that Clive had been bashed up the chuff by Hotkeys and that that was what had slowed him down.
Still I believe Clive deserved that 3rd spot more than I did just for bringing that knackered tyred Falcon home in one piece.
Great night and one that I won't forget in a while.

After receiving the attentions of Matt(Bullbar)Rowe in T1 I thought that I was in for a grim old time and I was right!

Apart from in John’s hands it really is a heap.

Matt’s half-hearted attempts to pass didn’t cut much ice and that was before I knew that it was he that had caused my problems!  :P

Bill vanished on lap one and Eblitz was probably on the outside of T1 as I went past on lap two.

I passed Alex and was closing in on Tony although I think that Matt had passed me at one point but then appeared to be doing some sort of Auto Test just after T2.

MJ also vanished and Tony very kindly threw himself into the gravel at the last turn just as I caught him.

Oh, and Navin was last seen on his roof just after the last turn as well.

This put me in a podium position and that always makes me a tad wider when it comes to taking it off me, as Bullbars found out.

In the end, I think that the first time that he actually achieved a decent overlap at the turn-in point to T1 I gave him some room and he was through.  Tony having watched things from a safe distance.

Matt pulled away to the tune of about 15 seconds before he pranged it and quit.  However, whilst I was thinking that that was it, I suddenly realised that Tony was now catching me and what was more, he was bringing Stig with him!

At one point, Stig passed Tony and closed on me at a rate of knots!  Thankfully I saw him bounce off the earth bank at the left hander after the Corkscrew.

Again I thought that I was safe and again I was wrong.

They came at me again and with four laps still to go I at last realised that my front right tyre was non-existent.

I tried changing down an extra gear in places to get some steering but could only just hang on in front of them.

With a lap to go Tony threw himself at me at the Corkscrew.  I saw him coming and thought “There’s no way he’s going to make that work!”  I left room for him and was just in the process of ducking past the back of his car when Stig hit.

We were trying to sort out the mess when John lapped us, making it the last lap.

Stig allowed me through and when we pulled onto the straight Tony did likewise.  I was still trying to work out if Tony did in fact need to when I crossed the line and the race was over.

Thanks Tony, very generous.

For most of the race I felt like a mouse being played with by a whole set of cats.

Grats to John and Ade and WD to all finishers.
