Title: UKGPL Season 22 (2011-2012) Porsche - East London - Nov 25
Post by: Geoff65 on November 19, 2011, 04:35:38 AM +0000
Season 22 - Porsche Super Cup
Race 2 East London

Prince George Circuit is a 2.436 miles (3.9 km) race circuit in East London in Eastern Cape Province, South Africa. Opened in the 1930s, it hosted the South African Grand Prix in 1934, and 1936 to 1939 when racing was halted due to World War II. During the years prior to World War II, German tyre manufacturers tested different tyre compounds for vehicles used during the war years. Audi were especially prominent, as innovators in the area of tyre development.

Modified to meet Formula One regulations in 1959, the track was built into a seaside amphitheater. It hosted three rounds of the F1 South African Grand Prix in 1962, '63 and '65. It was deemed too small for Formula One cars, and the race was moved to Kyalami in 1967.

This time around, it has the opportunity to host a gaggle of Dr. Ferdinand Porsche's finest of 1967. Yes, Round 2 of the Porsche Supercup finds us hopping a long plane trip from Queensland to nearly 500kms South/West of Durban, South Africa.

Please check the Season 22 pages for details (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=335&theme=6) regarding rules and the Porsche Super Cup (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=342&theme=6) pages in particular.

Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R;group=342;theme=6)

There are drivers missing from some teams, unfortunately with a lack of entries for the class, this has become unavoidable. As the season progresses we may pick up enough drivers to fully populate the remaining teams. And rather than tell drivers they can't race, it is fairer to let them form a team, in the hope of filling it properly as we go along.

Hi guys, I was a little bit surprised about to see just a very few pilots practicing for East London. The championship seems much interesting and the Porsche is pretty nice to drive, much more than the other GP's cars.
Porsche is easy but have strange behaviours when used at max performances so it requires a little adaptation before to get plenty of fun with it.

See you all in chat pre-race.

Ehm ... it's our fate that we cause misunderstanding when try to enter in this champ.
I go to substitute Tom Guérout and Mark75 would participate at place of another absent, both in quality of freelance drivers (Team Godzilla exist only for the GT, ignore him).
The PSC Regulation allows to involve other 3 drivers per team to make races during season, and this would be our case.
We are in chat before race, see you later.

Sry Jason for the contact at lap 1, not a great show by myself.  :(

After having spent many of the qualy time to join the server, it was saying it was full, I struggled to do a clean lap and at last attempt I had a contact with Fran, sry.

I'll comfort myself tomorrow with the Rally show at Monza. Loeb, Capello, Sordo, Dovizioso and Valentino will give some fun  :)

After doing a 1.33 at the very beginning of the practice, I realized that my chances of getting closer to my 1.30 were very slim. Once everybody got started, there was a car every 200 yards and I spent more time watching either Pribluda or my mirror than actually looking at the track.  With still some time on the clock, I decided to leave to fix a display problem and I was told the server was full when I tried to get back.

I switched to server2 and I started at the back. I had decided that I would quit if I was in the way . Well, I didn't have any rhythm and it didn't take long for the leaders to catch me. I spun at low speed in the esses and unfortunately got in the way of someone I want to apologize to.  I quit on the spot.

I don't belong to this championship. I was contacted to be the reserve novice on a team and that was OK for me. There is some fun to be had mixing talents on long tracks like Spa or Le Mans but it becomes a nightmare on small tracks like East London.

Anyway, if this championship comes after some other race in some other league for some team leaders, I don't feel I should be missed too much.  I will spend more time in the 65 championship where I belong.

Have a good time.

Pierre D

My fault... it wont get any better until you kick me out of team...

Had no space to do a good time at the (second) qualify and ended last... Fulvio went somwhere at the first lap, so no chance of full team finish...Got rearended at lap 3 by some guy with italian name...ended last again... then I didnt care anymore... did several laps...span several times...parked car at pits and left...

A very eventful race for me.  Had several battles throughout the race but I went wide a few times which dropped me back.  Early dices were with Geoff and HappyAl (A Baldwin), we were all of pretty similar pace so any overtaking was usually down to mistakes.  Geoff and Al dropped out and the rest of the race was a big fight with Marco Mercaldo whilst trying not to take out my team mate Fran.  We circulated as a trio for several laps trying to get the better of each other when the leaders started to lap us with about 8 laps to go.  It got pretty hectic but thankfully none of the leaders got taken out.  It looked pretty close at times.

With about 6 laps to go Marco tried to get up the inside of Fran on the last corner; he didn't make it and ran slightly wide leaving the door open for me.  I sneaked past on the inside but as we accelerated away Marco got a bit sideways and we touched (racing incident IMO but I'll submit a report anyway).  We both ended up spinning off and loosing touch with Fran.  I then went wide at the first hairpin (turn 3) and Marco got past me again.  Then half a lap later we came across Fran, motionless after his Porsche engine had expired :(.  Very unfair after such a great drive.  I then had to chase Marco down who had got a 2 0r 3 second lead with only a couple of laps to go.  I tried my hardest to catch up and I got very close, almost along side on the last corner but I had to back off and hope Marco went wide under the pressure.  He didn't and my last chance was to get a better exit and beat him to the line but I gave it too much throttle and spun.  By the time I got going again, Jason had nicked the place from me  :taz:

Grats to ArfArfArf on a good result and some decent points for the team.  Unlucky Fran, you were driving well!

Had some fps problems with the GT mod, and had to run at really low res to get it to run smoothly. As a result I couldn't use the mirrors and prib at the same time. So sorry to anyway who I didn't move out of the way in time as I couldn't see you coming.

As for the race, it was going OK for me. I was keeping it on the track OK and my times were OK. After a few problems there were a little que of cars behind me. I was having fun keeping my lines and keeping them behind me, but the my engine went on the 910 :( I've driven more and harder laps in pratice than I did in the race, so it must of just been random.

Well I am glad you are all enjoying the racing. I have just finished the imports and it is a bit of a nightmare. Didn't even get to drive as we can't get the two PCs sorted :(

We actually had all 21 drivers turn up for Server 1 but Pierre couldn't join and Hendy joined the wrong server (which helped). I will need to talk to Geoff about what we do about that. We may need to have a 'floating' team that is not assigned to a server.

PLEASE READ THE RACE THREAD. Once again, several drivers thought the password was wrong - it wasn't. YOU MUST KNOW IN ADVANCE WHICH SERVER YOU JOIN AND WHAT THE PASSWORD IS. Would it help if we had two race threads? Problem with that is that you cannot see all the results in one place.

As always, replay is available here (http://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/inc_replaysS22_js.htm). Just select the PSC series and select the Server you were on. Analysis is available if you click on the Archive name.

That analysis is available directly from here for Server 1 (ftp://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/replays/archive/season22/analysis/S22_PSC_R02_Server1_2011_11_25_East_London/index.html) and here for Server 2 (ftp://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/replays/archive/season22/analysis/S22_PSC_R02_Server2_2011_11_25_East_London/index.html).

The Replay .rar files are available here for Server 1 (ftp://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/replays/archive/season22/PorscheSuperCup/S22_PSC_R02_Server1_2011_11_25_East_London.rar) and here for Server 2 (ftp://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/replays/archive/season22/PorscheSuperCup/S22_PSC_R02_Server2_2011_11_25_East_London.rar).

Waaaaaaaaaw ;D , what was it a close nice/battle race with Evil and Axel .
Me on 3 place Axel 2 pl and in front/1 there was Evil .
Phew..... for many laps we sticked together unbelievably never done such a close race .
This al went well until Evil was hit by a driver who we where lapping .
Damn , i tought , bad luck for Evil because he deserved to stick with us but at that time i didn't knew what i would know later .
One thing I've read in the rules of UKGPL is .... when someone gonna be passed please place your self on the side so the faster drivers can continue there race .
So the race continue between Axel and me woooooow also close situations funfunfun;
Yup .... now it was my turn to be  crassed by the same driver who crassed into Evil  .
I tried to continue the race but my wheels decided to go in all directions except the directions i wanted .
Also my engine didn't want to stop so i almost crassed in the driver who crassed in to me lucky i touched nobody .
End of the race for me and disappointed ach ..... it was so much fun out there at East londen .
A big congrats to Evil for taken the first place anyway , and second place for Axel and third for Raoni
Infact for the three guy's/drivers who made it on the podium .
Like always thanks for the server and race see you guy's at Sepang .

Greets svenvangent

edit by mod Alex =/= Axel ;)
Thanks  :whistling:

What a weird race......

I should be glad that I finally finished one, but ended up frustrated. In the first few laps I was chasing someone who was warping so badly that I was scared to get too close, and spun avoiding them when they started appearing and disappearing all over the place. That put me behind Maxime and Cookie, although Maxime slid off. For the next few I chased Axel round, although he too appeared to be warping a lot. I nearly got passed him once or twice, but our pace was too close for there to be a real chance.

Then 2 things happened. First the warping stopped. Then Axel started to drive away from me and there was nothing I could do about it. Soon after Maxime passed me as if I wasn't there, and Roberto Teso would have too if he hadn't lost it and spun at a corner. I became convinced that I had some power loss due to gremlins, but I don't get a mention in the post race mechanical report. All I know is that Axel and Maxime were pulling away from me lap after lap, where previously we were all lapping at the same pace. By now all I could manage was mid 127s, so I just settled down to try and make it to the line and take some points for the team. Nice to see everyone in Super Pastit Porsche made it home - well done lads!

Highlight of the evening was coming out from behind Axel just after the first corner with vague thoughts of passing only to find a stationary car exactly where I wanted to go - that certainly got the blood going. Axel had taken a very wide line to avoid the spinner, and I probably could have got past him, but wasn't sure if it would have been legal, given the spin, so backed off. I think it was the only way I was ever getting past him tonight....

See you at Sepang

Wow, I was a little disappointed, I was not forcing the car, was walking within my possibilities, easily followed my compatriot Du Fossa at the end of lap 3, falls to my teammate, Peter Berg, who had been delayed but was much faster, and when to accelerate again to resume speed, the engine exploded.
Too bad, because he trained hard and was pretty comfortable on the circuit.
Thanks Sven for the setup was great.
 Congratulations to all.
 We will meet at Sepang

PLEASE READ THE RACE THREAD. Once again, several drivers thought the password was wrong - it wasn't. YOU MUST KNOW IN ADVANCE WHICH SERVER YOU JOIN AND WHAT THE PASSWORD IS.

I cannot understand what happened.
As my English language understanding is far to be good, I read several times the topic and finally it was clear for me :
I had to connect the server 2 with password dud  (now the race is over, I think I can write the passwords), so I tried 3 times to connect but every time I got a "wrong password" message !!!
Finally, an administrator/moderator told me the right pwd was Pete !!

So could you explain what was wrong ?

About the race itself, it was a terrible battle with Matti/Zampedri and Pedro VDBerg. I spun one time and lost around 10 sec. Then I was not able to overtake Matti who had a lot of lags !
I also had problems to overtake some cars when I took them one lap :(
Grats to Clive   for his great victory !

Hi,
I also read race info well and sure to remeber that server 1 pass was write pete and server 2 dud, immediatly post to my teammate race data, doing a copy/paste, perhaps, maybe my finger act like crazy? I dunno.

So if my fault, pardon me, my teammate have no fault, my blame.

Race was bad, starting I lose a lot of time to recover my team from wrong server, find password, and after that server 1 fail itself.
A lot of traffic during qualify, best lap 1" slower than best, too on the left at t1 and I spin far away, fallen in 19th place, fight to (a lot) become 8th, then collector succumb and race is close to me.
Very bad network yesterdey, apart first qualify session, that fail, even second and race was infested by a lot of "smash", cars appear and disappear, very difficult to understand ther real position, especially when doing overtaking.

hi happyal ,

pitty , would be nice to solve .

if you like to , we can try to sort it out .( better in other thread .. )
in my case I had to switch to openGL , as well had to change to an old ATI display driver and instead of CCC ,Adam Rays ati try tool only is running on my PC....... :Dtime stealing journey, tell ya .
even if the hardware seems to be overkill to GPL , result could be worse , as long software dont fit to old GPL .
;)if it should be a videocard prob : I do have 3 older ATI cards , I would give away for shipping cost only.
if any else is interested , plz pm . (1800XTX ,1900XTX, 1950XTX all 512MB and of course PCIe )

Sorry David for this misunderstanding of the PW ::)
To me it was clear that I have to join server1 with the PW "dud"...

After the server crash I had lost my 6th position in Quali, In the shortened practice I couldn't do a real fast one, so I was 12th...

Had a good start with this little contact in T1 with Marco who just touched me and went off.
Following Ronnie, Nicky and Arf, they constantly pulled a little away and when they were doing mistakes I gained a place.
Midst the race I had this great battle with Arf, with its highlight in lap 14 when we had this blocked T1 exit and I decided to better take the gras-line to not being hit.
Arf showed as a great gentlemen and let me the lead in this hairy situation! THANK YOU :notworthy:
The other battle was with Max in the last 7 laps who could drive a little faster, but with a defending Cookie in front, it was not easy to pass.
Max succeeded in lap 34 when I ran wide as I had done a misgear in Cox's Corner but with all my adrenaline I succeeded to get it back in the hairpin, taking the inner line with the space Max has left. THANK YOU! :thumbup1:
The last lap I had a little tow of Jason and so I finished in a lucky 5th place ;D
Gratulations to the podium!

Great win by Sergio! Great team Shadow success 1st, 5th and 9th!
This was the idea of this Porsche team cup to have such different drivers in a team :thumbup2:

CU at Sepang  :fencing:

Good result for Team Shadows this time round - Sergio was the class of the field in server one.. Axel with a good result in 5th and myself a solid 9th..
I was barely able to drive the car last night owing to fatigue! I could barely feel my legs and was struggling to turn my wheel! I was worn out after a 7 hour train ride home yesterday afternoon and only got home in time to grab some food, boot up the PC and jump straight into the server. With zero prep time for East London I had to run my Surfers setup, adding an extra clutch and lengthening the gearing to make to car feel right.. and it worked..... and I was just pleased to make the finish and get the points for my team :)

My fault... it wont get any better until you kick me out of team...

Thank you guys for your words.
I've dedicated a respectable amount of time to prepare this race and all has gone very well. I've been always in controll of my car except perhaps just once that I almost went out of track at the esses but I recovered well and then all has gone well untill the finish line.
I've been just a little bit surprised about the qualify time because I had a 1:23.4 BC and also a 1:23.89 of PB but I was not able to repeat these lap times, anyway, no problems lapping backmarkers (they fortunately sometimes watch in the rear view mirror  ;) ) indeed...no problems at all.
I thought Roberto Teso, Mark Barresi and Ron-C should be easily an immediate threat but I don't know why they were not in my mirror from the beginning as well. Pribluda told me I was taking distance from them almost since the 3rd lap.
I think it is a very good result of our Team Shadows and this should bring us a little bit forward in the general Teams Standing.
Thanks to my Teammates, your job has been fine. Only a little question to Jason, why didn't you say to me that you needed a setup ?

See you all at Sepang and...watch your six...I could be there !   ;)

'Cos I'm an awkward bugger and I'm determined to find out for myself what makes these cars work! I think I've about found it with the Porsche now :)

Oh yeah...I'm so too but, since you had not the time to set you car properly, so you should at least...ask for a hand !

A great result for team Hiki Waza with all 3 cars making it to the finish.  Joe did very well to keep things together to make it to the flag, after a few spectacular moves on the grass!!!

For myself, wow!! what a race!!! ::)

I was not expecting to be good in quallly around here, as my PB was some 2 secs of what I had seen Juha get on the practice server. But I was hoping to pick up some places through the race and maybe score some good points. So, I was astonished when I made a couple of minor changes to my setup during qually and found a whole second with a much more predicatable car.

I'm not sure what happened at the start, because I had only qualified 2nd but the pole guy did not appear on the grid??
My setup had a very high 1st gear and that allowed Alex to pass me on the run down to T1. This track is notorious for crashes as T1 AND T2 in the early laps and I was like a Meerkat on speed looking in my mirrors and at Prib trying to work out where the nearest cars were. Exiting T1 on cold tyres I was quicker that Alex and took the chance to outbrake him into T2 and regain the lead position. It definitely felt safer with a clear track in front and just the car behind to worry about  ;)
I tried to build a gap in the early laps, but when we all have equal cars and the drivers are as good as those competing in this series that is not easy.  :-\ Alex held me to about a 1 second lead and Sven was close in 3rd. On some laps I would squeeze another few tenths , but a slight error would allow Alex and Sven to close up again. Alex was generally faster through T1 but I seemed to be able to brake later for T2.

Even though I could not get away from Alex and Sven I felt that I could defend my position quite comfortably if i had to, so I settled into a steady pace expecting the real battle to begin in the last 10 laps.

Everything was going fine until we caught the backmarkers and tried to lap someone at the final turn... :-\ I will have to look at the replay to see who it was, but that car seemed intent on racing us and not allowing a safe pass???? I thought that he had deliberately run wide around the outside of the final corner to allow our 3 car train to take the inside line onto the straight, but imagine my surprise when I get thumped by a Porsche coming straight across the track from my left.
Alex and Sven managed to avoid my spinning car, but by the time I had recovered I was some 7-8 secs behind and a few of the cars that we had already lapped had got between me and them. I was lucky that there was no damage to my car although I felt any chance of catching Alex and Sven was slim.  There was a definite red mist in the air for the rest of the race as i slowly ( very slowly!) closed the gap until I was about 2 secs behind with maybe 5 laps to go.  I am not sure, but i think Sven suffered at the hands of the same driver that hit me and cartwheeled out of the race. That left Alex in the lead with only a few laps to go.
I had to get onto his tail quickly if I was going to have a chance to challenge for 1st place. Between these Porsches, around this track, passing opportunities are rare and i had to hope for a small mistake to give me an opening. So I threw in 2 laps right on the limit, figuring that as long as I did not totally wreck the car in a crash I had time to recover and still finish 2nd.....maybe  ::)
I think Alex made a small mistake coming on to the main straight and I got an excellent drive out of the same corner. The slipstream eased me closer and I got right onto his tailpipes out of T1...now or never with 2 laps still to go.
I used my extra momentum to get alongside for the braking into T2 and made the pass. Now I would have to defend for the final lap and a half against Alex, who is a very fast driver. That was the longest lap and a half ever!! and I knew that Alex would make a move somewhere. He tried it at the final corner but I was just able to hold my line and get a good drive off the corner in the drag race for the flag.

That was a very exciting race and great fun, so thanks to everyone.
Grats to Alex and Raonni for the podium and hard luck Sven who deserved better after a long hard race.

Yes Clive, it is true, your race has been pretty much interesting than my one and most of all the last 10 laps have been very struggling untill the last meter. Spectacular !
Compliments for your cold blood ;) and to the other 2 pilots on the podium !

and I was like a Meerkat on speed
:D

Again a great race.

Unlucky to been taken out by Raoni in the chicane 1e lap, better you reenter the track with more awareness of other drivers next time.
I lost 8 places and could have been killed, Luckely I diddent and had a great time catching up again.

Later in the race Pierre spins just before me in that same chicane (No Problem Pierre apology accepted :) And please stay with us!
Its fun to do, and we need all kind of experience drivers. That way its more fun.)

The last 5 laps I was on the tail's off Dave and Mattia but could not pass.
One time I had passed Dave, but Mattia was lagging and was gone, suddenly he appeared again.
I thought Dave was just driving safe to avoid a collision with Mattia, so I let him pass me back again to make it more fair.

Great Fun!! Great track!
Thanks all.
Congratulations Clive, Alex and Raoni.

Sorry for you Teamy's Sven and Roberto, better luck next time.

Greetings Pedro.

Overall a good race for me. Im not a master of the porsche, so I try and string consistent laps now. Congratulations to Clive, very well raced! Lucky i didnt ruin BOTH our races with that crazy spin! I span because as I tried to let the leaders pass, I went onto the grass.  ::) Unlucky sven, it's a shame you crashed out. Sorry Raoni, we had a close call when you were lapping me! I had great battles with Screwcutter and Stefano but otherwise a quiet race. Thanks for a fun race all

Thank you, Pedro !

Yes Mattia was lagging, sometimes it was on the left, then on the right of the track, sometimes he completely disappeared from my screen ... so it was not easy to pass him ;)
Moreover, it did no driving error !

M. Rainier - as far as I could see the password at the top of the page was 'dud' and the password in the next box down was 'pete'. Was that the same for you? It should have been. That meant that the password for Server 1 was 'dud' and for Server 2 'pete'. It should have been clear but maybe we can make the passwords Password1 and Password2 so that they are different but it is clear which server they apply to. I'll chat to Geoff.

I had a good, though quiet race, if you call chasing & trying to pressure Mark into a mistake a quiet race  I didn't actually pass anyone on the track though. L1 Roberto went off in T1, a few laps later Piero managed to do the same thing, they were the only 2 places I gained. I did have one go at getting past Mark on L18 in T3, which didn't work, I touched his car slightly & I slid wide, with Mark continuing on.  Chasing him down again, we caught some backmarkers on L22, which we were both trying to get past on the last corner when I tap Mark accidentally, oopps, I let him pass & off we go again, until a little mistake from me 2L from finish gave Mark some breathing room. Happy to be on the podium, with Natan 4th & Hendy 7th on the other server, a good result for NVRacing ;D

I thought Roberto Teso, Mark Barresi and Ron-C should be easily an immediate threat but I don't know why they were not in my mirror from the beginning as well. Pribluda told me I was taking distance from them almost since the 3rd lap.
  From my point of view, you were untouchable Sergio, I was not going to get anywhere near your times   :o

Mr Blood  ;)  - Yes I just looked at the top of the page, that was the reason why I didn't see "Pete" !
Next time, I will make more attention so no need for you to change anything !

or maybe, just one thing : people for server1 should only see pwd for server1, and the same for server2. That will avoid any connection to the wrong server ...or any switch to the otherr server like Pierre D. did (I don't think it is authorized !!)

In IGOR it is possible to filter the race list so that it doesn't show PRO races (look at Filtering at the bottom of the race list).

I think you have mainly raced in intermediate races so far but the PSC is PRO.  Have you got the PRO ticked?

You can call me Paul ;)

The difficulty is that people want to see the results for the round in one place - to allow people to only see one password we would need two race threads.

But hey it's one of those things in GPL. I had some great battles with Paul M, Stefano, and Pierre. Oh yeah and Clive !  ;) Well done Clive, again well driven
