Title: UKGPL Season 22 (2011-2012) Specs - Syracuse - Dec 2
Post by: Billy Nobrakes on November 28, 2011, 11:08:04 PM +0000
Gentlemen “I’m gonna make you an offer you can’t refuse” - Round 3 of the Spec will be at Syracuse in Sicily. This is a new track for UKGPL – an interesting road course in Italy which should take you a touch under 2 minutes to lap.

This season we are running a new format with just one Intermediate Long race & the same chassis for everyone. The races will be a mixture of 65 Mod & the new 69 Extra. For Syracuse it’s the third 65 mod race before the break & as its Italy it seems only fitting to use the Ferrari.
The track can be downloaded here http://home.arcor.de/pierre.dietze/pierre.dietze/syracuse.htm

There is no handicapping & all participants will run in one division. A quick check at the leader board from Round 2 shows two wins for Evil who is followed in the table by Natan & then Fulvio. From all accounts it was a thrilling race, none more so than for Miniblood with an impressive 7th place.
Unlimited resets are allowed but every Shift R must be followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane. If you Reset on the last lap a 30 second time penalty will be awarded.
Incidents should be reported in the usual way.

In line with other divisions the races will be subject to full moderation in the red zone  – which will be up to the exit of Curva Carpinteri.

The intent is to start the server about 9pm at 35 minutes qualification . RESERVES should not join until 30 minutes. Specs currently has 13 full time drivers & 13 reserves. Whilst there will be only server for this race I will be looking at the option for a second grid after then break when the 69 Extra cars are unleashed.

Race List = IGOR
Server = UKGPL3
IP address = ping ukgpl3.dyndns.org
Race date = Friday 02-12-2011
Time = 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT)
Track = Syracuse
Race length = Intermediate Long
Variant = 1965
Chassis =  Ferrari 1512
Damage Model = Intermediate
Qualifying time = max. 30 minutes

Driver lists can be found here Spec Race Challenge (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=343&theme=6)

This race calls for patience & precise driving. The track is narrow – very narrow. There are virtually no run offs – just lots of stone walls. Just to make it even more interesting Syracuse also quite a high speed track with several long straights ending in sharp turns.
Passing will be difficult & a waved yellow are to be ignored at your peril.
Could be more than a few mangled Ferraris on Friday night – so plan your overtakes with care & remember its F1 not bumper cars.
What idiot chose this track?

Yes - I was persuaded to include this track on the schedule when I woke up with a horses shed in my bed.

Just so that you can all know who to fear....

I have been doing this on and off for seven years and I have decided that now is the time to get a negative to my name... I have even started a thread about it... The Hunt for Red Numbers perhaps. The thread is here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=10026.0).

Anyway, last night I took the Coop out for a spin, maybe the more forgiving car would forgive my mistakes and let me zoom into the desired territory. Nope. Time to go and be a taxi for Son No. 1. I leave Son No. 2 (Mini) running round in the Cooper for me. I get home, and as you do, get in the Eagle and try again. 1:31.1 - ooh close. I upload the times as this is my best ever. WHAT THE... I am negative at Silvy... YEP. 1:30.506 in the Eagle... surely I would have noticed.... Wait a minute...

Check with Mini.
"Did you hop in the Eagle after I went?"
"Yes Dad."
"What was your best"
"About 1:30.5..."
<Silently>AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH
"You do know you have gone negative?"
"Oh - thought I had to be below 1:30..."
<GRITTED TEETH>"Well done son..."

FEAR HIM....  ;D

After surviving the first few laps and narrowly missing a couple of cars after  they tested the walls, I eventually found myself on a clear piece of the track with 100mtrs gap in front and behind. At last I was able to start pushing on warm tyres and close up on Ron, Cookie and Art..
It was then that the wicked demons decided to freeze my screen!!!!! :censored: :censored: :censored: :cursing: :cursing: :cursing: :death:

I hope the rest of you had better luck and a good race.  :-\

That was amazing fun! Those walls really make things exciting! I was well pleased to be starting from 7th on the grid and was amazed to able to hold on to the group in front of me... after a few laps though two guys in front of me tangled (Juha and Nicky maybe?) and I ran into their wreckage at full speed..  after my stop I found myself trying to chase down Natan without much success so I settled into a rythm to make the finish... then the concentration started to wander and I woke up in a hedge!  One S=R later and I'm rejoining the track just as JonnyO is going past.. and with just a couple of laps left it was race on! He made a mistake somewhere and I was past and back into 5th!
Really pleased with my race and my result.... I lurve this place :)

I did wonder where you'd got to.

It was a bit of hang on for dear life the 1st few laps, & having big frame rate hits didn't help. I'd settled in for awhile, then with 8 to go started to push to see if I could scare Axel into relinquishing 2nd place ;D, all I achieved in doing was playing ping pong with the walls here & there  ::) I also suffered with several mini screen freezes. In the end was quite happy to have survived  :D

That was amazing fun!
Really pleased with my race and my result.... I lurve this place :)

I could not have said better ;D

Quali was ok but with lots of trafic I just kept 5th.

Race started phantastic after T1 I was 3rd and followed Juha and Attilio.
Phew that was close racing, maximum fun with Attilio fighting for centimeters!
After Juhas bad luck I managed to keep Attilio pace and when he kissed the wall I took the lead ;D
But 3 laps later I kissed the armco in the hairpin and Attilio was gone again.
Ron followed me most of the time til he had some troubles(?)
The rest of the race I tried to stay away  from the walls and not overheat the engine.
The lapping worked well without problems, thanks guys!

  Unfortunately all the problem happened at the start.

  Everyone has to remember that I use my keyboard and start is always very bad, so do not be caught off guard in another start.

  After the confusion managed to do a race and reclaim positions, but the last round ended my  fuel  and Nichols me spent!

Brill race for me, a win I had to fight for from qually all the way to the finish. The start was good, notwithstanding the fact that this is one of those places where the polesitter cant see the flagman other than in side view! Had some good first couple of laps, but it is difficult to be consistent around here, so at the first (of many) brush of the wall, Juha was right behind me and passed me easily down the straight that leads to the slow Curva Florida. I have been a sitting duck all race there, either for my gearing or because of excessive cautiousness at the Carpentieri bend not sure, but who said this track is not for racing? It actually allows some nice counter pass down the two straights that follow the Florida corner, and I had some really close moments there figthing with Juha and Axel. Cookie got even so excited that he thought he was racing the Fonzie (it is Attilio, not Arturo, Axel  ;D ;D ;D)!

When I regained the lead at the hairpin after Cookie's moment, I was able to put in some decent laps and build up a bit of a cushion, much needed as the lapping here is far from easy, especially with the identical liveries that obviously confuse people busy in their own battles! Wacked just about every wall and armco out there, and several times, but apparently they used to build them sturdy back in Maranello!

Very happy of having bagged this, I have gone since March without a win at UKGPL! Grats to podium, all finishers and especially Axel for being so annoyingly quick and resilient! Looking forward to January, when the real fun of the series commence with the 69Xs. Cheers guys, thanks for the racing, see you at the next one.
