Track: Le Mans 24H 'revived' v1.0.0.0 - download from here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3356.msg76901#post_lmsarthe)
Race Start Time: 14.00
Weather: DRY.

Tyre wear: normal.
Fuel consumption: normal.
Pit Stops: You must make a minimum of one pit stop during which you must take on at least 1 litre of fuel and/or change at least two tyres. You cannot take a mandatory stop at the end of the pace lap, or with less than 1 lap to go.

Server: simracing.org.uk Multi
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

*IMPORTANT INFORMATION*
Warm up lap - Normal warm up lap procedure with the exception of 120mph speed limit on the straights.
                 - The LMP2 driver that leads the formation lap needs to apply a pace that is suitable for the GT2 cars.
Overlapping - If you want to let a driver pass then please use your lights to indicate your intention.
                 - Use the straights as much as possible for passing and be patient on the corners if you have traffic. This track has lots of room on the straights.
                 - If a driver flashes to let you pass into a corner then you should attempt a pass to save confusion unless you are sure its a bad idea.
Pitting - Do not request your pit stop until you are at least half way around the track.  Other wise you crew will get board waiting for you and go back in to put the kettle on.

Notes:
(1) Please make sure you are fully aware of the UKGTR Rules (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3349.0) - especially the speed limiter starting procedure and the rules about in-game chat messages.
(2) You will not be able to join the server without the car physics pack and track (see links above).
(3) Drivers are reminded that they must select ISDN as their bandwidth, otherwise the stability of everyone's connection will be reduced.
(4) Please use the Driver Details (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=profile;sa=driver_info) page to ensure that the league management software has your correct GTR2 'Driving Name' (not necessarily the same as your lobby name).
(5) The server will be set to 26 slots, not 28.

Although not part of a championship, the race is an official one and results and lap records will be recorded on the web site.

I will be in an LMP2 probably the Lola. :)

i would like to race lmp2, but may opt for gt2 as 1.5 hours in an lmp2 will require a lot of concentration, will decide nearer the time after some practice

I know what you mean. I was hoping that the 2010 version that someone has been working on would be released by now but, alas, 'twas not to be. :(
I have not looked for GFX updates for this version of the track but, there could well be some available. Is there not a track surface texture update available somewhere does anyone know?

as its not part of the championship do we get a penalty if we take a different car??

No. This race is separate from the U15LE and U15UE championship. It is not actually a fun race either. Fun races are when we do things like test races. The results are only kept on the web site for a short time for a fun race. This LeMans race is like a championship in one race. The results and lap records will be recorded on the web site permanently.

I assume this will incorporate a day / night transition?

I have been doing a few laps of the track at different virtual times and I would have liked to have done a sun set or sun rise race but, with the race being 1 hour 30 we would end up with blinding sun on some corners for about an hour of the race. I do not like he idea of doing accelerated time either. I am now thinking that it would be best to do a 14.00 hours virtual start time.

So we've gone from talking about wet weather, day-night transitions, sunset or sunrise races back to a good ol' 2pm start  ???

Yes. We would need a longer race to do a sun set or sun rise race. I should have figured this all out sooner. If I make it changeable weather with just a few days to go before the race, then I think that would not leave enough time for all drivers to prepare.

I think what Spanner was probably suggesting at, was why is it not a say 5pm start (or what ever works best), so you see some kind of sunset change?

Post by: H@L9000 on December 29, 2011, 10:07:32 PM +0000
The problem is we either start with it already light or dark and only have a small light change. Otherwise we would have blinding sun on a few corners for at least 1 hour of the race. That is too long considering the race is 1 hour 30 mins I would say. The light change would not really be noticeable without having to put up with blinding light on some corners. So we may as well have a 14.00 hours start as I can not see a way to get the extra atmosphere that I was hoping to achieve with the sun set or sun rise idea.

Sun set in particular, really affects the viability. Many corners would have blinding sun.

At least 1 pit stop is required. I have just updated the 1st post as it was still saying 'no pit stops required'. I am sure everyone was planning on stopping at least once though. :)

I have done a few changes to that setup. I don't think the engine will last the race with those settings. I will upload the new one soon.

Lens Flare in Cockpit View="0" in my .PLR file.

At least, I think that was it.

Or is this a problem beyond Lens Flare?

The LMP2 cars are a bit tricky especially if you do not have much track time with them. The Lola is easier to drive and I would recommend that but, it does have a lower top speed than the other 2 LMP2s. In the GT2 class, the Panoz is probably the fastest car on the straights but, it will require more fuel. Personally I would go for the Panoz or the BMW M3.

You will need the physics pack to join and for eye (and ear) candy you will need the skin pack for the LMPs, the skin pack for the GT2s and the sound pack. You can race with just the physics though.

I shall see if I can get it working and then see if I have enough Brownie Points to dare ask if I can race.

Should be OK as I just mended the gass oven; against all odds!

Perhaps me old mate Tudor could mail me a setup or two?  ::)  ;D

I have an old setup for the BMWM3:
http://www.gamefront.com/files/21139492/H_L_M3GT2_LeMans_R_svm

and one for the Panoz:
http://www.gamefront.com/files/21139493/H_L_Panoz_LeMans_R_svm

You will need to check the fuel amounts and that the engine will last. I have not tried the setups out recently.

Most people set their cars up very differently to me but, the gear ratios at least may be some use.

Not turned a lap here yet Clive and not even sure if I can make it as we have family around for NY.

I'd have strung out that oven job for hours, you can never have too many brownie points you know  ;)

Had to stop practicing before all Brownie Points evaporated.

Managed to get on server with the Lola and did a 3:48.4 with the first tank full.  8 seconds slower than Prof

Think tha Lola will do me.  Many thanks.

Will have to see how tomorrow pans out.

Am I right in thinking that the Lola has to stop twice for fuel?

It will definitely be close if you use my setup. With the warm up lap and time spent refuelling, I am hoping that I will just about get away with 1 stop. It will require some early up shifting during the race no doubt. You can make a few changes in the setup to help with fuel economy. Reduce rev limit is the main one probably, add coast, add pre load, reduce power, lengthen 6th and maybe 5th gears a little and using the automatic clutch can all help to reduce fuel use.

Entire lap for the warm up, for fuel reasons.

The LMP2 driver that leads the warm up lap needs to remember to drive at a speed that is suitable for the GT2 cars. However, we can go a bit faster than normal on the straights for the warm up lap. I think 120mph should be good.

had visitors round today so didnt manage to log on till 11 mins of qually left, did a warm up lap + 1 qually lap. then decided to put hard slicks on rear and softs on front as had experianced excessive rear tyre wear in testing earlier in the week. This was a big mistake as it seemed to make the car undriveable! the rear kept locking up under braking and mid corner so i was driving on eggshells trying not to swap ends, then as i passed clive loynes in the sand trap and made up a place i lost concentration and missed my braking point and slammed the barrier, hopefully laguna seca next week will be better!

Another tough race at LM. I thought tonight was going to be easy after our 2.5 hour GTL marathon, but it turned out to be just as demanding.

Again I hadn't done much practice, just enough to get a setup for the M3 and a strategy (which I still got totally wrong). Had a good quali and start, but soon I was under pressure from Spanner in the RSR. I went a bit long into Ford chicanes and he was through, but a mistake pulling onto Mulsanne a lap or so later put me back in front again.

I started on a full tank and somehow my brain had convinced me that I needed to conserve fuel in order to do a one stop  ::) In doing so I allowed nsfast to close in and had to start driving hard to hold a gap. It was only when he pitted that I realised I had loads of fuel to spare and so had to do a quick re-calculation before I eventually pitted. All this when lmps were appearing in my mirrors from seemingly nowhere  :o When I emerged from my pitstop, nsfast was only 3 secs behind me and I had to drive hard right through to race end to keep it that way.

The lmp race looked to be fantastic fun, with I think H@L, TT and Jose all lapping me within a half second of each other at one point. Well done on the win H@L and thanks for putting this together and of course for all your work this past year. A deserved win I reckon  8)

Post by: H@L9000 on January 01, 2012, 11:05:31 PM +0000
Great race. :)

I think I was lucky to get pole as Jose looked like he could beat me. Once the race had started I was maintaining a 2 second gap and trying to save my fuel as much as possible as I knew it would be close. I could see that there was a big battle going on for 2nd in my mirrors. I did go into a corner side by side with TT early on and TT seemed to loose a lot of time, I am not sure what happened there.

As we started to get near the half way point I was starting to feel the pressure as Jose closed in on me. He got past and I was trying really hard not to let him get too far ahead while still watching the fuel use the whole time. I then made a mistake and got stuck in a gravel trap for a while loosing about 20 seconds I think.

I seemed to make back a good deal of that time in the pit and I had about 8 seconds of time to regain between me and the fight between TT and Roadrunner. I caught them with about 20 - 25 mins left to go. We had an epic 3 way battle for a while. Lots of position swapping and trying to use/brake the toe. Great stuff guys. :)

TT eventually made a mistake leaving me and Roadrunner to battle it out to the end. Again we were making use of the slipstream and having to think a few corners ahead to maintain the inside line to the corners. Lots of close action and position swapping again. We both made a few brave moves I think but, without pushing too far. Roadrunner did also make a mistake eventually, gifting me the win.

I had just 1.7L left of fuel at the end. If there had been no mistakes from the front runners then we may have had an extra lap at the end that would have meant I would need to stop for a splash and dash.

So, in conclusion, I was lucky. Very lucky. ;D

Well done all and thanks for taking part.

Grats TT, Prof, GT, nsfast and quicksilver. :)

Trying to drive and do mental arithmatic is always my downfall.

I had just reached the point of deciding that I would pit next time around when I lost concentration at T1 and ended up in the sand.

I spent ages trying to get out but when the car slewed around so that I could no longer see who was approaching in my mirror, and would thus have to lurch blindly across the track, that I decided that it was time to call it a day.

I enjoyed the first half of the race and at least I was able to add to my Brownie Points stocks by watching the Christmas Day recording of Downton Abbey with my long suffering wife.

Many thanks to H@L9000 for organising the race and grats to all who finished.

Hi Guys

I am all new to this league. I recognise some of the names and can relate to some of your pace. The race at Sarthe was more mentally challenging that I thought it would be... I qualified 5th and finished 5th. Thanx to all the racers, I had lots of fun. I had some good pace in the beginning of the race and thought I was headding for a good result, but in the end I spun off so many times and finished last... :-\  I still had loads of fun tho.. I would have liked to race Prof and Apex more since we had (at some stage ) the same pace and it could have been nice... Hope to see you next time. ;)

I really enjoyed that. I don't race nearly as much as I would like here at the moment due to work and did very little preparation for this race. The first 4 or so had a pace much faster than the next four so I was more than a bit lucky to inherit an undeserved but nevertheless welcome podium. Congratulations to Apex who nearly chased me down in the second half of the race as my tyres and fuel started to run out as well as those in both classes who achieved the podium and indeed all who finished the race.

Happy New Year to all and with any luck I shall see you all a bit more often on track during 2012.

Had to try a couple of times when connecting to the server as I kept getting a lost connection error. Managed to set a couple of good laps in quli but when I returned to the pits I was shown in p14 with no one else having set a time so I assume I was no longer connected to the server. Reconnected with enough time left to get a few laps in but made a couple of silly errors in the final chicane on my best lap.

During the first half of the race I was doing my best to save fuel and tyres while battling with hal and TT. Just managed one lap more than the others before stopping and came out with a good lead after only changing rear tyres. But then my timing started going funny and after a couple laps of not seeing any other cars I realised the connection had gone again.

Not had this problem before, anyone have any ideas what caused it?  ???

Pretty annoyed it ended rather too quickly.

Being the lone non-Beemer which seem a bit quicker down the straights i thought I'd try and help and reduce any extra weight so decided to go with half fuel but was very surprised to start gaining on the track and catch even Goldtop. The car was tricky and wandered around alot so had a rather interesting time which was why once i got ahead i was pushing far too much and went in far too quickly into the first chicane dropping me back. The LMP's surprised the hell out of me as i was going down the straight, not really concentrating.

In the end i took too much speed through the Dunlop Chicane and came out a bit too far wide, Dont think i was in the gravel but clouted the tyres which seem to stick out just as the next corner comes up, which spun me towards the inside, flipped me over the barrier and thanks to the track creator not being thorough, fell towards the centre of the earth :o

Was enjoying that, shame. Surprised we were all so close. Good to see people turning up for it. Hope to see you guys for more racing this year.

Awesome fun but very tiring.

decided to start the race with medium front and hard rear tyres. BIG mistake. went well for a few laps but then the car started to understeer in the first set or corners before the long straight with about 50ish mins left of the race decided to pit so got a full tank + hard front and rears then started to well again but then me being me went and made a few mistakes (as ususal)

grats to winners

was fun. next time lets try a 3hour race with simulated day / night transition :-)

Hah! Thrilling! would be the word to use for describing the driving of an LMP on Le Mans track. :scared: I made some changes to H@ls setup - I made it stiffer (arbs) both front and rear and put rear wing to 2. That added some stability as with the orig setup I was out every other lap.
Nice close racing in the first stint up to the miserable try of taking the lead: H@l took a defensive inner line and I missed my braking point for the second chicane. Thought it was surely race over but I managed to just lose about 10 seconds which meant 3 places. ::) Damage took another 2 sec per lap so I wasn't very optimistic. Pitting gave me more speed and hope to go to the end with fuel. I managed that indeed with less than 1 l at the s/f line. :D Second stint was a furious fight with H@l, Jose and RR. Lapping was sometimes critical, one occasion got 3 abreast through chicane. :o Well, I'm still not sure (and it doesn't matter) if we touched, RR. Might be just a bit too much throttle. Anyways, I spinned and hit the wall, got damaged again and settled for 4th. Then Jose had a disco (or was that before my crash?) and 3rd seemed ok. Then RR went satelite and I finished 2nd. Good that I had damage and was cruising for the last 15 minutes, saving fuel. ;D

I feel LMPs put GTR2 here on the higher level and I really don't understand this lack of interest. :-\

Good race, something to remember. 8)

I enjoyed the LMP car but Sundays are a problem to me and perhaps to others as well?

There is usually something on the television that my wife wants us to watch together.

Does she ever sit & watch you drive a race?

LOL

You gotta be joking!

Besides, I couldn't concentrate with someone saying "Stupid Game" that many times right behind me.  It's usually only necessary for her to call up the stairs "Are you racing?" and I'm in the gravel!

I have prevailed on her to watch bits of replays, just so that she can marvel at the graphical excellence of PnG/GTR2.  I think the Virtual Le Mans circuit is much preferable to actually travelling all the way to France!
