The Privateers are back after the winter break and this time we return to Canada, specifically the Mont-Tremblant circuit in Quebec, also known as St Jovite. After a third different winner in three races it is close at the top of the points table with all to play for.

The Mont-Tremblant circuit is legendary as a world-class racing facility and has hosted many of the world's most famous drivers and cars. The south loop/extension was completed a year later, with the first race on the 2.65 mile full course on September 1st, 1965. A 2.8 mile variant was used at one point in time in 1965. The first ever Can-Am race was held at Mont Tremblant in 1966. The Canadian Grand Prix was held here in 1968 and 1970. The track is located near Mont-Tremblant Village in Quebec and continues to operate to this day.

Grrr... early trip to the bar for me!

After stupidly failing to ever turn a wheel at this track until the practice session [there WAS loads of time until this race;  where did it all go?!] ;  I was pleasantly surprised to have managed to survive a dozen or so laps before the race & get 8th on the grid.

After some goings on up the front (with half the field wiping out!) an slightly unbelievable 5th (or maybe 4th!) was showing. That surely would not last for long...!   I think it did for a few laps; weird!  Then normal service was resumed & the rightful faster chaps were past & on their merry way.

I think I was in about 7-8th when my DSL dropped out again.  This had occurred during practice, so was hoping there would not be a repeat during the main event.  Never mind.

Thanks for MT for continuing to let me through;  even though you'd be back in front within half a lap at the next off  (honestly, this was not happening before!).  That must have occurred about half a dozen times!

Now, I'm starting to think maybe I was lucky not wasting time practicing too much ;)

</rant>

There again, it was surprisingly good fun out there; despite some oil obviously having been dropped at a number of locations out there.  Pit exit for example...

Hey, how about getting GPL.tv on the race servers?!   Then disco'd chaps can see what's still going on out there!  Maybe this has been discussed elswewhere - I suppose there would be the overhead of the watchers.

Cheers & thanks for the event,
Dave.

This track was new for me so I decided to stick with the trusty BT24. I noticed no-one splashed out so we had a clutch of BRMs, Brabhams and Coopers with Sky the exception in his Lotus.

We had a great battle during qualifying, I think pole switched between us three times before Sky well and truly ended the debate with a time way quicker than I could manage. I hoped to be closer in the race and the grid times suggested the two of us should have a gap back to the rest. Wrong!

Sky and I were slow off the line and into T1 a flying Cooper driven by the intrepid M Hunt took the lead. I was a little cautious and Sky tagged my rear, sending us both into a spin and causing a melee behind I think. Not looking forward to moderating that one!

I was lucky to continue in second place but Martin was a lot quicker and I had Nigel snapping at my heels for the first few laps. Once the race settled down I tried to catch the leading Cooper but he was building a handy lead.

Around two-thirds distance the gap started to come down quickly and I soon passed Martin who appeared to have problems, possibly a loss of engine power? Anyway it was a real shame as he deserved to win. I thought I would then cruise to the flag but I noticed I was low on fuel, and did some very slow laps right at the end to see the flag. If I didn't have such a big gap on the rest I would have struggled to hold on to the win.

Well done to Hendy on another second place and commiserations to third placed Martin who deserved better.

Mine was a race of two halves.  My '67 races usually turn out to be a battle with rubber components, as much as racing opponents.  So during pre-race practice, I'd honed a track specific setup, to try to conquer the omni-present problem of overheating tyres.  And once I'd discovered how to survive 5 laps, instead of 2, before reaching meltdown, I knew I was in with a chance.

A perfect start put me at the head of the pack, heading into the first long right-hander.  And while chaos ensued behind me, I burned rubber - no, wait . . . that part comes later!  There was a major conflagration involving more than half the field, and it's amazing more lives weren't in need of resetting, before things were sorted.  All of this gave me a good jump, and I worked hard, to increase the gap back to a pursuing Ross, during the first half of the race.

By mid-distance, I'd eeked out a 10 second lead, while trying to avoid that noise.  But I could tell, my tyres were all set to sizzle.  Until a couple of lurid slides, had them tumbling over the cliff, and landing as a sitting duck!  Umm . . . or something similar to get shot of, before it lays an egg! >:(

Racing on ice is not to be recommended, unless you're fitted with spiked tyres.  Eagle eyed Ross soon swooped in, and glided off to an easy win.  While I still had a 30 second lead on Hendy in 3rd.  The problem being, my wounded machine had become 3 seconds a lap slower, without it's tread.  While on the plus side, this enabled me to battle with a car I'd lapped, a few laps earlier!

By the final lap, Hendy was on my tail.  I'd been struggling around the first corner for several laps, with the car bottoming out, unexpectedly.  And this time, pushing hard, my luck came unstuck and my tail snapped around, which turned the Coop. into a handy roadblock, which Hendy had to stop for.  Sadly, I ended up facing the wrong way, and trailed home in third.

Fun race, fair outcome.  Well done to the podium boys, and that includes my tyres! :-\

Well, I knew I shouldnt waste all my skill and determination for the practice... i definetly had none left for the race itself.

So continues my epic row of screwups, yeah. And I'm too stubborn to quit, he-he.

.....While on the plus side, this enabled me to battle with a car I'd lapped, a few laps earlier! ....

I think that was me Martin.  I was really pleased to see you up front, looking good for a win and another decent haul of points for Antipasti ;D  I was equally disappointed to see you drop back but I could see you were in some sort of trouble with the handling.  No real harm done, Antipasti is still top the table ;)

As for my race, I didn't recover from the bad start.  I got caught up in the L1 T2 melee and had to reset.  After my S&G I was a long way back and although my laps times were reasonable, a couple of spins trying to make up for lost ground meant I was in danger of getting lapped after 10 laps.  I'm not very good in the BRM but it is cheap and now I've got a few tokens saved up to buy a decent chassis for the next round.  The championship is pretty tight and if Hendy starts to spend some of the tokens he's built up it will get even tighter!

Well done to Ross on a fine win and to Hendy for showing me what the BRM is really capable of.  Better luck next time Martin!!

Mod published. Apologies for the delay but as the only incident involved me, the other moderators had to be consulted.
