Specs racing returns for Round 4 in a rather different format.

First up the series has been split into two grids – the Light Brigade & the Heavy Brigade. You will have had to re-register to participate – if you have not already done so please go the UKGPL Announcement page. Suggested driver allocations are shown in the registration threads. The championship standings will be a somewhat truncated 7 race series but your points will carry over, but not until after the Kyalami race - so don't panic!

Second for the next five races we will be using the new 69 Extra Mod. So we have a of variety of challenges we will be using some winged & some unwinged cars. There is a patch in SRMZ that clears the rear view mirrors on all the cars – but you won’t need it this week for the wingless EagleAAR101 (also don’t expect it to be fast!).

As before there is just one Intermediate Long race & the same chassis for everyone. The track is the Papyrus regular at Kyalami. (Please also note you need the version of the track WITH the pit wall.)

Unlimited resets are allowed but every Shift R must be followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane. If you Reset on the last lap a 30 second time penalty will be awarded.
Incidents should be reported in the usual way.
In line with other divisions the races will be subject to full moderation  in the red zone – which will be up to the entry to the Jukskel Sweep.

The servers will start no later than 9pm with a minimum of 30 minutes qualification, pleas ensure you join the brigade – LIGHT on UKGPL8 & HEAVY on UKGPL3. If you drive on the wrong grid you will be disqualified.

Will this race be around about 26 laps Bill? Intermediate Long is 34 laps.....for the 'fast' cars, this slug would take forever to complete 34 at around 1:26-1:25 per lap.

This race post is currently logged to the 'old' Specs division rather then the new Heavy and Lights. Should be sorted before the event so you will then be able to see the password as you are registered under the Lights.

Will be sitting this one out , I don't do 69's F1 cars  ;D

Good spot Geoff - 26 laps sounds about right. I will amend the main post.

Bernie - if you don't have the Mod that's fine. If you don't like winged cars the Eagle doesn't have them.

Guys, this is a bit OT, but I have noticed GPLRank has finally been updated to host the laptimes for 69x and F2 cars. GPLRA hasnt though, so not sure how we can start uploading? I do find it rather useful to have a reference point time wise...

As for Kya in that Eagle, I havent turned a wheel yet, and probably will not until Thursday, need some solid de-gpling after Sundays self-inflicted physical abuse in the works race  :wacko: ;D :wacko:

You can upload times directly though your own players ini file. So for F2's you would upload SIERRA\gpl\players\MyPlayerforF2\placF2.ini

I have uploaded some times (don't laugh!) but sadly Enna is missing.

Now't to do with wings and things , its simply because these cars are just way too fast for my reaction speed . Its an age thing  :wheelchair:

this car is way easier to drive than a F2!
With its lack of power you just have to roll around on a clean line...
Just give it a try, you will laugh after it  ;)

  I saw only now that the new format.

Perhaps I should have put some practice in. Expected Mini to drive but he is out so I had a go. 5 secs off the pace and in the race I cut three seconds off that so I could have been competitive if I had tried it out the night before!

Fun for a while but once Dave wrapped me up and I crashed at Sunset three laps running I decided to call it a night and keep out of the way.

I read that I have cut the pitwall for my S'n'G :(

very strange because I thought I had installed the track version with this pitwall !
or it was for 65'intermediate race ? don't exactly remember !

By the way, this changes nothing to the final result.

UKGPL races at Kyalami always stipulate that the pit wall must be in place. I don't know why this is and actually think its a harmful rule (the slower pit entry with the wall in place can create a hazard for drivers following someone who is about to pit), but rules are rules and they need to be obeyed, even when they are bad ones!

The pit wall infringements are based on what I saw on the server replay. If you have your own replays which show differently I am happy to review.
The post in the Intermediates & Novices is quite clear about the pitwall - but the race post for the Spec series was probably less obvious. I have, therefore, only given a time penalty. For future reference if you don't have the pit wall for UKGPL championship races at Kyalami then cutting the armco might incur a DQ.
