Title: UKGPL Season 22 (2011-2012) Porsche - Nürburgring (Nordschleife) - Feb 3

Season 22 - Porsche Super Cup
Race 4, The Nurburgring!!

Ah, the Green Hell. Your little Porsches should feel quite at home here as they were built just up the road a ways....and could probably negotiate Nurby in their sleep after all the testing etc. That is perhaps, without our sweaty mitts on the controls, of course. No background needed for this track, you all know it.....I can smell the fear!!. Enjoy   ;D

Please check the Season 22 pages for details (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=335&theme=6) regarding rules and the Porsche Super Cup (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=342&theme=6) pages in particular.

I ask to join team 7Team7 (look subscription thread), where Pedro is alone after defection of Svenvangent and Roberto Vianna.
We can continue this champ (you have deleted this team from entry list) if this is possible.

I see that Team 7Porsche7 has not been added to the list?
Is this because Sven and Roberto quited, and I cant drive Nurburg because of absens?

I found Alex willing to join the "7Porsche7" team as a Pro driver instead of Svenvangent.
So if the organisation is OK with this, Alex could drive February the 3e  for the "7Porsche7" team.

Greetings Pedro.

Fixed Pedro, just do me a favour and do the Team induction thing with Alex A.S.A.P please? You might want to cast about for a Novice to fill the team out as well mate.

13 Teams x 3 Pilots each one = 39 Pilots in total while 2 servers can handle at most 38 Pilots (2 x 19 = 38) !
Who can solve this equation ?
There's enough room only if someone will ditch !

Mini and I cannot drive at the same time but it is worse than that because teams can't split across servers so seven teams = 21 drivers :(

Luckily, not everyone turns up.  :D

I would like to have 40 pilots or more on the same grid in GPL (actually any domestic DSL connection could manage 40 and more users and the bandwidth should be not a problem) and...for what I've heard, actually this is already possible for modders.
Obviously this feature could be not the maximum on tracks like Watkins Glenn (laptimes below 65 secs).
I don't know why this feature was not still implemented officially.

Bye

Years ago I recall playing Nascar 2003 which had a 40 car limit IIRC... One race at Daytona with a full grid, the pole sitter and the guy next to him tried to occupy the same space on the parade lap and triggered a 40-car pile up :D

LOL, yes Jason but like you said...years ago!
I've a DSL 20 Mb now and when I had a 7 Mb also (5 years ago) I was hosting scenarios on IL-2 with 32 human fighter pilots as well and ...with no warps at all.

BTW on Aces High (and I'm saying about 2003-2004) there was a limit of 64 flighter planes on the screen also if there were much more all around (and all around means 500 and more human fighter pilots all on the same scenario). I made some photos of a ground attack to an airbase with Jugs (P-47D) and P-38. Never seen a sky so crowded all around when we all reached the meeting waypoint, and each squadron with a leader and a TS channel assigned.
It was Fantastic !
I think a few of us can say such a thing like this.  ;)

Geoff, there are 6 teams on server 1 and 7 on server 2: because i am the only driver from 7Porsche7 that run this race, i suggest you to move one team from server 2 to 1.

After much delay, I am finally hooked up and no longer wireless, with thanks to Badblood for mailing me his old Homeplug setup.  So I' can step in as a reserve at the Nurb, if there is a driver shortage, without also having to terrorize the neighborhood!  I'll sign up, if there's an empty seat. >:D :hammer:

My seat will likely be vacant, Martin. I've really gone off GTs and have never liked the 'ring as a venue so I'll likely sit this one out... Might finish reading the hamsters autobiography instead....

Managed to get my internet sorted again so I'm up for this one tonight :-)  I'll have to disable my AVG Anti Virus during the race, it seems to cause frame rate problems.

I haven't broken the 9min lap barrier yet so it looks like it is going to be a loooong race.  7 laps is going to take well over an hour for me!!!

Good luck to my team mates Arf^3 and Fran   Take it easy, a finish should guarantee decent points.

Phil , I had trouble with GPL and AVG I found changing to Avast cured the problem , though It did take a while to figure out that you need to configure the AV programme to allow GPL "and" GEM "and " iGOR and not just the game port .

HTH though I have a feeling its a really dumb suggestion  ::)

The only rule change for Season 22 is a tidy up of the Warp wording which has been widened to include side by side collisions. Races will continue to start at 9.30pm UK time but, in order to reduce starting glitches and accommodate moderators available time, the Divisional Moderator will have the option to start the server for anything up to an hours Qualification (ie from 8.30pm). Starting issues allowing, servers will start at no later then 9pm UK time.

 ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? up to an hour qualification + server will start between 8.30pm-no later then 9pm ...

 my fault ; I missed to study this new rules for this season .

ok , that simply means as a driver you have to be ready up from 8.30pm to jump on server  , otherwise regular qualifying conditions wont be on his side ..  :D :D :D I call that plain bullshit .

As well mutating race distance = long  ; to something whatever .
Quote
The Porsche Super Cup is intended to provide a competitive championship using the GT mod but with an emphasis on existing UKGPL teams running together. There will be two grids should enough drivers sign up.
[ I am damned bloody sure two days ago it was written 5laps for this race  .. ]

Division Moderator: Geoff Heard
Admin Assistant(s): BadBlood / Ross Neilson

Overview:

Race Length: Long
The PRO damage model will be used

All classified score
Reported incidents modded
Full moderation of lap one red zone

I am pretty sure that couples of days ago this race was still anounced to be 5laps to go

:o thats the stuff able to make my spirit get lost .

;D at least I did have fun practise the ring offline .( pitty did expect PSC to be great fun .. )

Well I'm not the only person that can say this tonight, but I retired from the lead, and I'm bloody annoyed with myself....probably not as annoyed as all those that retired from the lead before I got it :-)

I really enjoyed it though, while it lasted. Didn't see many other drivers. Avoided the spill at the first corner, had a bump with... someone on L2 (hope you were able to continue), and then that was it. I forgot to use that utility to adjust how the lap board displays, so I was pretty much in the dark as to who was where. Then I see that some of the front runners have retired, and I'm suddenly fighting Ron Clegg for position (I assume because you had a  damaged engine and couldn't go faster!).... I know a reasonable position is on the cards if I can stay on the track. My eyes were going a little squiffy after a hard couple of weeks spent in front of PCs, and I think that's what caused me to lose my braking point, and I got stuck in the ****** bushes at the top of the twisty downhill section. Hey ho. I was trying to get the car out of there when GPL just threw me out. Strange.. in a 67 race last season I spent a couple minutes on top of a Spa fence, and managed to get off it and finish the race. I guess GPL decided I had no chance of that tonight....

Congrats......isn't enough.... Knighthoods to anyone that finished!

 ;D

Arf

Looking forward to seeing where I actually finished

Nicky,

Sorry that the extra qually is a problem for you but I have to start the servers and I also have to pick up my eleven year old twin girls from Guides at 9pm. Guess who comes first! I do put in about three hours work on race night to sort out the replays, start the servers and import the results so I think I can claim a little latitude!

Enjoyed the race even though I was 25% off the pace. Still fun though and nice to pick up some points as people kindly fell off in front.

Thanks for the tip Bernie, I'll look into it.

Although I think I disabled AVG I still had really bad frame rate problems in the race.  In qually had a solid 36fps but at the start of the race I was getting 25fps and it stayed pretty much the same for a whole lap.  The car was undrivable with that frame rate and so half way round the second lap I pulled over and dropped out.

I had bad fps problems too... had to turn off all the details and install the original nurby without updates to get any decent fps... still, at the start I had only 11 fps, and then... screenfreese.  I was almost about to turn off the pc, when it fixed itself, and I was facing a fence. Hope I didnt make a mess of the start. After that it went rather well with no big mistakes, tho my joymouse emulator blocked for second here and there, preventing me from steering... definetly need to reinstall my windows soon, its behaving worse with every day, I had bad fps at mosport too... Nurby was much more fun tho.

A big thank you for your tireless efforts Paul, I for one am certainly in appreciation.  I don't see what the issue with having more qual time is...if you don't like spending soo long in qual just join later...that's what I did.

As to the race, a somewhat up and down affair for me.  3rd was a lot higher than I expected on the grid, esp given there were plenty of fast types out last night.  At the start I could see I'd had a slightly better getaway than someone in front, but not enough to challenge, as I decided to brake early to give room Roberto took the invitation down the inside, I didn't see him until it was too late, turned in and hit him.  This sent me into the fence, from where I waited for a clear track to rejoin.  However on rejoining to what I thought was a clear track, a load of cars suddenly materialized and I stopped but blocked another driver, sorry to whoever that was.

After getting going (probably last) I quickly caught Geoff but then got taken off as he bounced off the fence.  Several incidents later I settled into a good rhythm and managed to get past quite a few cars, then when running 5th my engine let go :( I assume this was from the trips to the fence as I am was pretty safe regarding revving the back oota it.  That's racing...

Bob.

P.S A big thank you to some of the drivers I overtook, especially Martin Hunt who gave me room straight away when I positioned my car for an o/take.

Well, I had a poor start coming to a stop avoiding sky's spinning car and then had a front row seat while at least one other car went sailing in to him :/ and from there on it just got worse.

Dispite trying lots of different combinations of setups I still get a random issue under braking. I'm not standing on the brakes, indeed on most occasions I'm using less than 1/2 pressure and still get front lock ups. I have no more time to mess around with it, tweaking for hours just to end up in a hedge after 5 minutes so I will no longer race with GTs.

Anyway, well done to any that finished.

I had a nice battle during the 6 first laps with JonnyO and Fulvio and a the start of the 7 laps I was comfortably 5th without any hope for the 4th position (Fulvio) and with an advantage of over 20 seconds on the 6th (JonnyO), but...

...but I started to race in the brainless mod and try to beat my PB : I spun and the race ended for me against a tree !
Congratulations to the podium, all finishers and especially to Jonny0 and Pierre D ;)
Sorry for my team, for the next race I will try to buy me a brand new brain  :(

It was clear from the beginning that everybody was faster than I no matter how I spell it. "11%" looks better than "a full minute" but it is still the difference between my best lap and Tristan's.
You know what ? It's like custom bikes vs cafe racers, if you like it, why are you trying so much to put an end to the experience as soon as possible ?  ;D
Rules of the Ring for me: stay out the way, be polite, don't allow your mind to start roaming.  Last night was a great one for me. I was lucky at the start and then lap two 9:31.93, lap three 9:31.04, lap four 9:30.37, lap five 9:30.11.  The mind roaming part hit me at the 6th lap and I made several mistakes. I talked to myself, we both agreed we had to be more careful and we managed to finish before sundown.

Congratulations to Tristan and Maxime.  :notworthy: LOL Racing has done it again !  :jumpjoy:

hi Steve ,

Steve I got the same trouble yesterday .
But must say I never had this before so constantly while racing Porsche online .
During qualy my first 3 attempts ended very early coz of this .
During first race lap I lost control heavily 2 times and final at L2 . Results in car falls headlong .
Strangely this syndrome to me had been present very very rarely during practise offline ( against 6 AI ) maybe off about one time out of  12 laps .

I am unable to make sense out of it . Didn’t had a single issue last race at Sepang for example

Even this thread  didnt spent any light on whats the reason realy is .
`Locked brake issue on Gtmod  `
http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=6986

But one thing for sure ; it couldn’t been cured by setup work afaik.

Only thing I noticed , that it seems to be extreme worse the moment your are close behind another car under breaking . To me it looks like draft effect measurement and GPLs slow speed grip issue as an addition do force the locked brake effect .

But still , as this isn’t constantly happened , I havnt a clue .

Something to do with specific  tracks ? or server settings , or client settings , or bandwith quality in general  ?
As it seems  my fps never drops under 35fps online ( using gplshift device , fps shown at right upper corner  ) I guess it had nothing to do with fps drops . But I am not sure , especially this time many drivers report they got pure fps …

Apart from said all above ,  I hope you will change ya mind and keep up with us ,  enjoying this nice Porsche .

I think you missed the point Nicky. I wasn't moaning (well, just a bit!). I am physically not around at 9pm to start the server so I start it at 8:30. I only get back around 9.20 so I join with ten minutes to go but I have to start the servers earlier so that the race can start on time.

After getting going (probably last)

No you weren't ;)

I saw you and Geoff having a tangle and decided it was easier to let you both go. I was pleased that I kept you in sight for a lap.

Try to avoid this behaviour raising the front of the car, softening the springs and having a brake bias more to the back so that the braking force to the front wheels are extremely soft. In any case remember that the friction the tire can offers (grip) is a costant value that is spread in two parts during corners permitting the car to turn and at the same time to brake. When that costand vale will be overtaken (because of turning too fast or because of braking too hard or both) then the tire will slide and when it happens during corners the car will go straight ahead. This happens to me several times so I've tried to avoid this raising the front of the car, softening the springs and shifting the brake bias to the back. And this is not enough sometimes tho so the only thing that remains to try is...to brake gently and before.
If anyone knows much more it would be nice to explains own experience to solve this problem.
Thanks.

Also Tom Guerout had the same problem at Solitude (last season) after the long straight and he went off road as well.

I believe these unwanted lockups, are caused by the car's handbrake.  It may sound odd, but that's an in game feature they are all fitted with, without most drivers realizing it.

When you arrive at a track with a slope, such as Spa, your car should realistically roll down the hill.  It must've been decided, this would be inconvenient, so a pseudo-handbrake was added.  As soon as the car starts moving, the effect is released.  But for some strange reason, the GT's are triggering the handbrake, while the cars are still moving. :-\

GPL physics are complicated - that's why the Sim is so good, but it also means any strange behavior is difficult to fix.  For us, the fastest lockup release seems to be, to add speed, as if you were on the startline.  By doing this, brake lockup on corner exits, should no longer be a big problem.  :sweatdrop:

Finishing 4th was greater than expected!

Much of the race was fantastic in a dispute with Rainier, but then I was tired and could not keep up.

I'm sorry for Rainier, he left the last round.

  Congrats to the podium!!!!

In a track like Spa, my Porsche rolls alone down the pitt stalls if I don't press the brake so I don't know what do you mean with hand brake !

You make an interesting point Sergio.  All the F1 cars when stopped, will stay stopped. But  I just tried a GT at Spa, and it rolls when it arrives, so the automatic handbrake is faulty.  I think it switches on at the wrong time. :(

I don't know how the handbrake is implemented in GT mod but if it is, in the reality the handbrake applies only to the back wheels not to all the 4 wheels, so it seems strange to me how the front wheels are so involved in this kind of problems, anyway the problem is real for sure.

I still have the problem too... lately I got used to it, with softer springs and bump larger than rebound it seems to be minimised... also at crucial spots, where I know they can lock, I slam the brakes and release them very fast several times in row, making the car feel like a rocking chair. Maybe some setup with more weight at front? Anyway, I still make my setups mostly randomly, and im still slower with gt's than with any open wheel car....

The F1 67's do roll down at Spa  ;)

Excuse me a mo'  :taz:. . . "Grumble, grumble!"  Ok, that's better!  Any other sensible ideas, on the cause of our GT's, rotationally challenged inclination, please post here.

Temporary glitch where front tyre patch goes under track surface? Due to weight maybe? In practice I had strange occurance at first karrusell... tyres started screaming for no reason at all, and front right tyre temperature went from 78c to 170c in matter of seconds. It often happens with all cars if you get your tyres through a fence... Maybe something related?

Does Lancia stratos has functioning handbrake? Handbrakes are important for rally cars I think...

I guess you could move the brake bias all the way to the rear? which would give the same effect as a handbrake, although slowing for any conventional corner might get interesting ::) I have never tried it, but it might be fun.  ;D

...as I decided to brake early to give room Roberto took the invitation down the inside, I didn't see him until it was too late, turned in and hit him.  This sent me into the fence, from where I waited for a clear track to rejoin.  However on rejoining to what I thought was a clear track, a load of cars suddenly materialized and I stopped but blocked another driver, sorry to whoever that was.

Sorry Bob, I didn't realize you brake so early, my fault, so I have only time to skip your bottom and take left track side but was too late, so we did a pool trick, me on left and you on right.

@Badblood or other admins, please check my team score, we have gained undeserver points from entering in the bad server (edited: East London), but this remain as a placement in the score.

Thanks for that Roberto - I've checked and put it right.

It was actually East London which you have noticed!

You will see that I am scoring points even though I did not race and had no qualification. I tried to set a time but crashed twice and then when I reset I got 6fps which was undriveable so I quit so that others wouldn't be affected. Still get points for turning up though.

Hendy and Pierre drove but on the wrong server so were excluded. This does not affect their team totals, just their personal scores.

The Mercalso brothers did not start but set a qually time. They have also been excluded from this server. This did affect their team totals, not just their personal scores.

I think everything is correct now but please feel free to double check.

first of all I am very thankful that you did spent so much time and work .
Didnt know about that circumstances , the moment I criticised those time format of qualifying , sorry .
and  , as I said before , I havnt study PSC details and stuff thoroughly . So simply my mistake all over .

no question , better extra long qualifying then none ; regardless it do serve theoretical advantage to those are not short on free time .  ;D
