After the last outing at Kyalami we should all be familiar with the new format. The Specs series will now run on two grids – the Light Brigade & the Heavy Brigade.

Round five is the second race in the 69 Extra Mod & we now get a chance to try a car with wings & 4 wheel drive – the Lotus 63 (the downside is the real Lotus 63 was a swine to set up).  If you can do without too much authenticity there is a patch in SRMZ that clears the rear view mirrors on all the cars.

As before there is just one Intermediate Long race & the same chassis for everyone. The track is the Papyrus regular at Monaco. Monaco is a tight twisting circuit, with heavy braking into several low speed turns. Will drivers please take additional care & avoid any rash overtaking moves. This track is all about concentration & patience.

Unlimited resets are allowed but every Shift R must be followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane. If you Reset on the last lap a 30 second time penalty will be awarded.
Incidents should be reported in the usual way.
In line with other divisions the races will be subject to full moderation  in the red zone – which will be up to the entrance to the tunnel.

The servers will start no later than 9pm with a minimum of 30 minutes qualification, pleas ensure you join the brigade – LIGHT on UKGPL8 & HEAVY on UKGPL3. If you drive on the wrong grid you will be disqualified.

I LOVE the 63 ... sooo much traction out of those slow corners.. But some advice to everyone - ditch the default setup! Its horrid!

Actually that is a Steven Cloyd's setup, the one he used for his PB with the classic 69 mod. So, probably difficult to drive, but certainly not bogus and potentially very fast  ;).

Incidentally, I wonder if those 67 (!) cars included in the 69Xmod use the physics of the standard 67 gpl cars (brabham and lotus I think?). Havent tried them yet, wonder if anyone has had a go.

I hate to burst the bubble but there is no 4WD in GPL  :-\ just a heavier car with more downforce. Maybe that is what gives the feeling of more grip out of the corners....they are still great fun to drive  ;)

24 laps OK then I saw that I did not have enough fuel to make it to the finish. I tried to save fuel and keep my 4Th position but when I with no help from my engine, it stopped right after the hairpin, rolled forward to the finish line Axel passed me.

Grats to the podium!

This was the hardest race I ever drove in GPL!
I managed not to make a single big fault, but was slow, passed a lot of accidents, lucky not to get involved.
Last lap, last corner Göran let me pass, maybe because of fuel shortage? I had 12 liter left over ;)

I can't really say much about my race that can be safely printed! I had the pace I needed but just kept crashing! Bitterly disapointed with myself for driving like a complete ****! :(

Well, not the cleanest of the wins, but still will not start complaining, and it was at Monaco too  ;D ;D!

I kept finding time during qually, which netted me a pretty comfortable pole, but I had a hunch that Clive and Ron were simply being slower at finding the groove, which unfortunately proved right during the race. I spent half of it trying to shake the wasa man off, with no success, until I finally came up with the cunning plan of clipping a kerb at Casino (or is it Portier?!), spinning, and flipping him upside down in the process. You have no idea how many hours of practice were needed to learn that trick  ;)! Sorry about it Clive, not the best way to end that battle really. So, rather luckily I found myself with a healthy cushion of a handful of secs, as Clive had to S&G after the reset. After the race, I checked my times, I was plodding around in the 24s for most of it, with a pole time of low 22s! Being in the lead on a track like Monaco, I probably was more worried about not shunting it than about going quick. Still, I suppose a change of attitude in the races is on the cards, Lady Luck's helping hand wont be always there  ;D ;D! Grats to podium and thx for the racing.

Big fun , even though my race turned into sort of desaster very early  ;D
Couldnt get free from the stranded car in chicane at L1 ; did shift-R ,GPLSO sound collapsed ( my fault ) but even more worse : my pribluda track position board disappeared . From then on I hadnt a clue who is who and where.. ;D did make my rounds with no one around til friendly flagmans told me that I am going to be lapped . Not an easy job to find a place to move for ensure an clean passing at Monaco . Hope I didnt to bad .
Well , afte three drivers passed me , unfortunately the idea to bring pribludas positionboard back to work by hitting the F6 key , rise up in my brain  :D results in 1. my car hits a wall ; 2. I hit F8  key instead by mistake and then everything colapsed : grafic , sound and steering . lol did lost my car two times in a row in the middle of the tunnel , wooow .
But somehow I managed to cross the finish line , with 3 stop & goes. exhausting , but big fun

edit : pointed now one wheel buttom to F6 , as it should be ( idiot me  ;D ) .

Well..... the most important question is who is the mole at Waza headquarters??!!!!!  Kiki Nakawaka is already applying her gentle skills to the squidgy bits of the anatomy of various employees to find out.  :o  :sweatdrop:

Coincidentally Arnold and Mabel Glutbucket have been looking a little furtive lately, and I have not seen them since the race on Friday!!!

Where did Art learn the ancient secrets of the subtle Waza technique of Hiki Flipikawa, whereby any particularly persistant opponent is left on his head whilst you escape unscathed???????  :whistling:

I made the mistake of trying to adjust the setup that I had built on Wed evening ( and which was good for a low 1:22 ) instead of controlling my driving and as a result was almost a second off my PB. A lesson there I think.

So I started the race behind Art who had set a very fast pole time, but I was confident enough in my race setup to be able to challenge him. The first few laps Art eased away but looked a little unsteady on those cold tyres so I allowed a small gap to develop whilst I tried to force some heat into mine . I really struggled to get my tyres out of the dark blue temps all race??. Once I had settled in I eased up behind Art and waited for a mistake or an opening to make a pass...always difficult around Monaco :-\ I was quicker through some sections and he had the edge in other parts but it seemed that we were evnly matched for pace. Ron had slowly dropped back in 3rd but was still close enough to capitalise on any errors from us.

For lap after lap I tried to work an opening, the best chance seemed to be out of the final hairpin onto the S/F straight but Art's line always seemed to prevent me nailing the gas early enough to gain the advantage. Another place was on the exit of Casino square and over the bump where he got a little ragged sometimes, but never quite enough for me to stick my nose down the inside.

Eventually he pulled that ace which Wazas keep in reserve and accidentally deliberately  clipped the kerb just to make his car spin and reverse across the track. Ha!! I've got him now I thought just drive around him and disappear into the sunset  ;D
But the sneaky, sneaky, underhanded, secret stealing, deviant little s*d, bounced off the Armco just enough to get his nose under my front wheel and flipped me onto my head!!!! I had no option but to Shift-R, which put me in front of Art but needing a SnG. Did Art reset too?? would he have to perform a SnG?? I gave it everything on cold tyres to build a gap before we got to the pits hoping to build a small gap and praying that Art would have to stop too. But the swine had the temerity to sweep pass as i performed my SnG and retake the lead.

I have to confess that the dreaded "red mist" decended across my eyes for the next few laps as I forced tha pace trying to close the gap back to Art. But on coldish tyres and some serious over driving on my part I collected a few Armco and straw bale samples which slowed me down and caused a half spin which dropped me to 3rd behind Ron who had maintained his steady pace.

Closing on Ron was not a problem, but passing was because one of the brushes with the barriers had caused some damage to the rear left tyre. Although this upset the handling very slightly, it did cause the temps to rise on that corner  :-\
Ron defended his position well and I thought I would have very little chance of regaining second unless he made a mistake. Unfortunately Ron got caught out by a backmarker and although he tried to emulate Arts dastardly move I was able to bounce through and escape. With only a few laps left I pressed as hard as I dared in the hope that Art might just have a small off, or even run low on fuel, but instead he simply eased through the final laps to take a comfortable win.  Grats Art

I payed the price in this race for forgetting the rule at Monaco where you have to beat the circuit before you can beat the opposition and that means very controlled driving and avoiding other's misfortune.

It was still great fun and grats to all the finishers.

That was a giggle - I can do about 1:30 here but got nowhere close in the race. Every time I pushed I made mistakes. Still fun though. Apologies to the others for my 'interesting' lines...

I managed to join at the very last minute and didn't check to select the right car thinking it was a special race and that I had already select it in GEM+. I'm a Chicken!!!

Had a great race. I settled into 3rd as Art & Evil had the pace on me, thought I'd try & keep in touch though, you never know  ;D  But alas no, lap 6 clipped the wall out of Portier then a spin out of the chicane dropped me back about 9 secs :-[  So ok..... then about lap 15, oh there's Evil, doing a SnG, hmm lets push on  ;) ah ha into 2nd ;D Not for long, caught out by a backmarker down into Mirabeau & Clive gets past. Try & catch him, setting PB's along the way, but Clive had the situation well in-hand  :D
