Title: UKGPL Season 22 (2011-2012) Specs Light - Monza (GP 1955-71) - Mar 9
Post by: Billy Nobrakes on March 05, 2012, 10:41:20 PM +0000
This post is for both the Light Brigade & the Heavy Brigade Spec Races.

Round seven, 69 Extra & its time to unleash the McLaren M7 at Monza. Two things to find out 1/ the effect of the draft with this Mod & 2/ how much wing you can do without for this superfast circuit.

If you can do without too much authenticity there is a patch in SRMZ that clears the rear view mirrors for all the cars.

After 3 rounds in the 69X, Artiglietti leads the Light Division, Evil has set up permanent camp on the second step of the podium & Alex is in third. In the Lights Jonny O is tops followed by Sky (2 wins from 2 starts) & Billy (temporary interloper so high up the table!). Turn outs have dropped a little of late – so if you are a loose end this Friday come & join the fun.

The Champion ship table will be updated shortly to include the first 3 rounds in the 65 cars. Don’t worry your hard earned points have not gone to waste.

Unlimited resets are allowed but every Shift R must be followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane. If you Reset on the last lap a 30 second time penalty will be awarded.
Incidents should be reported in the usual way.
In line with other divisions the races will be subject to full moderation  in the red zone – which will be to the exit of the second Lesmo.

The servers will start no later than 9pm with a minimum of 30 minutes qualification, please ensure you join the brigade – LIGHT on UKGPL8 & HEAVY on UKGPL3. If you drive on the wrong grid you will be either surprised how quick you are / hopelessly outclassed & disqualified.

Well, I've just done a "pleasant" hour of setup work on the M7 and am pretty chuffed with my pace (1:28 in qual trim, 1:30 on full tanks) but surprised how little difference there was between running mid-levels of wing and full wings. Found less than 4 degrees to be undrivable however...... Also finding it helps to have slightly less front wing than rear but I guess that is going to dependent on driving style and diff/suspension setup as well..... and I remembered to leave some head room in 5th gear ready for the drafting action :)

Thanks for posting that Jason. I was part expecting the 69X to be quicker than the 67 - but there is little in it. Have found the 69X really does need work to find a decent set up. My best is a low 1.30 with a about half race fuel. Not You can definitely carry less wing than other tracks.
If anyone want to borrow a set up please let me know.

Strange setup with so much wings, Jason... :o
My wings are between 1 and 2 !
You will be faster in the corners but on the straights you will loose it! :P

Test it tonight at BREASTS  ;)

I tried F1/R2 but found the lack of stability quite alarming. Also had a lot of understeer with low wing angles and would have required a radically different base setup to compensate and haven't the time or patience. My best laps came with F4/R5 and a 60/60+2 dif.

Bernie,
The IT issues are well beyond me but the is the new 69 Extra Mod rather than the original 69 Mod. I've spent 5 minutes looking for the link but I can't find a post with a link to the download. Presumably SRMZ will be more helpful.
69X is hungry on memory & takes much longer than usual to run the game.
Apologies if you were referring to 69X.

Thanks guys , I have all the 69 & 69 X   L/W M/W H/W etc loaded up .

The problem is none of them will work  :'(

I recall this being a problem from first instalation , never bothered to sort it as I didnt want to mess the other mods up,  which I almost certainly will do if I try fixing things myself

there was a thread in UKGPL but I cant seem to find it

Bernie , why not simply create a new 2nd GPL install followingg this guide :
http://en.gplworld.eu/easy-installation-guide.html

as you mentioned something could be wrong with your existing GPL install , for sure its the most save and easy way to install a brandnew 2nd GPL . Put it in anoter partition and/or give it another name so GEM can understand that there is a 2nd install .
good luck

A second installation is useful Bernie, just use a different path c:\sierra\gpl2\ or whatever...

I have been using disabled DEP , tried putting all the ex files in there anyway
tried the thing with 69 seasons.ini (checked ANSI coding )
still get the same CTD

A few questions

Have files C:\ gpl69mod   c:\gpl69xtra  which are sitting on the C:\ root  , should they be somewhere else ?

One guy talks about re installing  GPLexe ? how best should I do that ?

Post #27 in this thread shows thumbs of exactly as my problem , but the guy doesnt say if he fixes it or no  :-\

http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=6920&hl=%20ctd%20%20green%20%20button&st=24

In GPL secrets /GEM+/resources/gplmods/GEM+ there are just 4 files

gples.cst
gplfd.cst
gplfg.cst
gplfv.cst

should not 69 files be here too ?

why have 2 GEM+ files ?  seems strange to me

GPL Secrets files are just fine Bernie. Those are carsets for formula libre and other exotic mixtures.

The others are probably in gpl\mods\something or other.

if these folders do have the subfolder `option `, which include XML documents ; they should placed in X:\gpl\mods\Gem+\ and NOT somwhere lost on C:\
Guess this would explain the `black box `in GEM & CTD

as to which exe should be deleted to make GEM to create new ones :

inside gpl root , called gplc69 ( for 69mod ) , gplx69 ( for 69xmod )

best to make a backup of all your gpl exes , then delete all , except main GPL.exe of course , and let GEM rebuild them .
Dunno if Vista asking for something special in procedure...

good luck

In the file
C;/ sierra / gpl/ MODS/

I have alot of files with extension .bmp

then these folders

GEM+ (yet another gem+) ?
69-extra
deadgpl69
gpl65
gpl66
gpl67
gplf2

Could this be my problem , should be a folder gpl69 in there ?

 ;D ;D are you kiding ?? Of course `deadgpl69 `is wrong !!!!!!

I just tried what happend to my GPL if that folder is changed to `deadgpl69` ...  :D didnt got and CTD but a error message talkin about bad extension . And voila GPL wont run 69mod .
Running XP Home on that PC , thats why error may be different to the one you got under Vista...

So just rename that folder to gpl69 should solve your prob runing 69mod , hopefully it will solve 69xmod too . On my XP system 69xmod wasnt involved my wrong folder name `deadgpl69`.. ;)
( note : folder called 69-extra is correct ) .

edit : did modify my last post , as the path I mentioned was wrong .
its X:\GPL\Mods\Gem+\

Just popped over to Monza Italy for a test drive in a Mclaren M7  8)

thought all my problems were over but when i tried the 69xtra I now get a "can't load track" message from the race screen  :'(

Although I have 69xtra cars selected and a driver configured there are no car pickies on the GEM screen

the 69 Mod looks good so at least its an improvement .

That was one of the longest battles I've had in a Championship Race w/ Phil... No doubt his greater experience saved us from my recklessness. Haven't watched the replay yet but it was hard to see the screen with the sun coming thru behind me (in GMT -8) I know there were some close calls. Not sure what happened but after I regained 3rd for a second time Phil suddenly dropped away...

I actually got up to use the loo with about 1:32 which I thought was enough time.  When I got back the grid had just taken off...to my surprise I was able to start from the pits a few seconds later. This put me in 10th instead of qualified 2nd but with only 1 major mistake I was able to fight up to 3rd... Unfortunately I'm guessing this will count as -1 position lost rather than +7 gained

Grats bernie & Ranier

Yes it was a good clean fight.  I also had a couple of cracking duels with Geoff too.  I think I needed a slightly longer top gear, I blew 2 engines and with the 2 S&Gs I had no chance of challenging Bernie.  Well done mate.  All the hassle you had installing the 69x mod was worth it in the end  ;D

Aaaarrrggggh.  Just realized I used the wrong setup for the race.  My proper setup that I used in qually had 2 clicks more on top gear!!!!!!!

Congratulations to winners Bernie and Clive and to podium ones !!

Nice turn out after all that razzel-dazzel, Bernie !

Well , my race was quit boring :
Good start , but wasn’t easy to stay behind Ron-C , as his car changed left right on track constantly , didn’t looked like warping really , but yet I guess it was ….
Lost tow to the front runners at L4 , coz got rear ended at Lesmo1 . Luckily car wasn’t damaged . Tried to kept contact with Artiglietti after he overtook me easily . But I was too slow and couples of laps later he was out of slipstream effect to me .
Then a long period of lonesome driving settled on me . Just fighting with my overheating tyres . well Fulvio caught me up 2nd laps to go , I managed to recounter once , but on last lap at lesmo2 Fulvio overtook me again . Sorry I made it that critical Fulvio , wasn’t my intention , just didn’t have any enough  control over my car that moment . my fault all over . Did a shift R , pits stopped ( this time really stop down too 0kmh ) and left pits to cross the finish line .
Quit funny feeling ….

Quallified 3rd on what was basically the default set up , though I did change the dampers and take some wing off for xtra speed . made my usual tardy start and was glad to see we all got through the dreaded T1  Cuvra G intact , Fabio drafted past trying to make up time for his poor start and ended L5 by outbraking himself into parabolica , I danced with him into the gravel,  but where i could get away easily I think Fabby got stuck in the quick sands . I was now 6th while Dave inherited 5th . Lap 6 saw almost everyone ahead of us hit some kind of trouble , geoff went barrier bashing , Jonny clipped him and spun , Phil blew it (hard luck son) and when the dust had settled Dave was 1st me 2nd some way behind . with everything warmed up nicely I was able to chase Dave down and thus began a scrap that lasted to the end of the race , the results dont show how many times we passed and re passed each other which was 2 or 3 times per lap .

The last half dozen laps were frantic with me giving it large to try and brake the tow but think I had the advantage under braking into Parabollicup and was able to cross the line 1st , though the result could have gone either way .

Got to thank Dave for a great race and his sporting behaviour , i would have been pleased to finish 2nd in such company  :)

Grats too to Hendy on his well earned podium proving once more you dont have to be the fastest man on earth to get a result  ;D

Commiserations to Fabio for missing out in front of the home crowd .   well done to all who finished with there pride intact  :)

Had to totally guess as to the setup as I had 3 minutes in qualification. Blew an engine on the way out and had one quick lap :(

Sorry about the tight grid, I assumed it would be loose as I have installed loose grids for the 67's.

Made a cautious start as I wasn't sure about the setup but caught Billy and put a bit of pressure on. By not making mistakes I managed to make it as high as 3rd. It went wrong from there. Fabio caught and passed me and then I blew an engine. Down to eighth :( Two laps later blew another one  >:(

Set about trying to catch Adam and then I span when I did! Tried to catch him again and thought I was going to run out of laps but got lucky with the blue flags and surprised him as Hendy caught us both...

On the whole my best ever drive.

I can't be statisfied 100%, as it was a missed hat trick, but I tested the car on the track the day before only...

As already mentioned by Bernie, first a really bad start, then a mistake on the Parabolica and I compromised my race.

Further mistakes took me out from the podium and I nearly lost the 4th place because a last mistake on the very last parabolica.

Well, anyway Black Night Racing rules  :punk: :punk:

Grats to Bernie for his win, as it seemed he would have miss such race because of technical issue...

Well, I couldn't join I guess.. After some interesting family talk before the holiday I started the server with 18 mins to go. Loading gpl with 69x took me exacly 12 minutes... my pc truyng to switch resolutions 1 minute... server kicking me out 1 minute... reloading 69x 3 minutes... putting race fuel in setup 30 secs... Oops, race is starting... clicking green button...switching resolution...come on... ok, loaded, finally, and luckuly im last... because while loading i skip the flag and everyone are already 30 secs ahead.

And then I discover that after 20 minutes loading I have: 1. Joined the wrong server. 2. Forgot to load the joystick emulator, so i have no means to control my car... :cursing:

That was the end of my patience tho, so now I reinstalled windows... hopefully it will run better when it doesnt have 12 different videocard drivers installed on top of each other...  :P
