UKGPL Season 22 GT Teams Championship
Race 7 Edmonton

Race number 7 and a return to a circuit that has seen some great races in UKGPL, but never before in the GT's . Edmonton is a flat but challenging track with a good mix of corners that should challenge the drivers.
Edmonton International Speedway, also known as Speedway Park, was a 251-acre multi-track auto racing facility located at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. At its peak, it had capacity for over 30,000 fans.
In the late 1940s, the dirt-surfaced Breckenridge Oval opened on the site. In 1952, the oval was shortened and paved, and the facility was renamed Speedway Park. The oval had seating for 8,000.
In 1968, the road course opened in time for the first Can-Am race. Over the years, the facility also hosted Formula Atlantic, Formula 1600, Formula 5000, Trans-Am, as well as NHRA-sanctioned drag racing.
Qualico Developments was the track owner in the latter years, and closed the track in 1982 to convert the land to housing. Edmonton would be without any form of professional racing until Capital City Raceway Park opened in 1991 (now Castrol Raceway).

The point at which the racing will start on the rolling lap will be as cars ENTER the S/F straight from the sharp right hand 90 , this is quite a way before the start line so BE PREPARED ;)

Please check the Season 22 pages for details (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=335&theme=6) regarding rules and the GT Teams Championship (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=338&theme=6) pages in particular.

Reserve drivers should not join the server until there are only 30 minutes of qualifying left so as to give the FULL TIME drivers chance to join, and drivers are not to go out on track until there are 30 minutes of qualifying left as this helps all drivers join the server successfully.

Please restrict chat to pit messages if necessary, and this includes the end of the race, until all running drivers have completed the necessary laps.

The GT races are run under Int Long rules and there will be full moderation of lap one Red Zone and reported incidents for the rest of the race, however the moderators reserve the right to review any incident. Drivers are reminded that they are limited to ONE Shift-R

Please submit incident reports within a week after the race so that the moderators report may be out before the next race.

There will be rolling starts for all races with full moderation of both the warm-up and first lap.

Guidelines for rolling starts...

The car on pole will lead off the grid and maintain a steady pace for the 1st lap around 175kph
All drivers should form up in single file behind him leaving 3-4 car lengths between each car.
There is NO OVERTAKING on the 1st lap until the exit of the last corner.
It is the reponsibility of the lead car to ensure that all drivers are with him as he approaches the final corner.
Racing and overtaking begin AFTER the exit of the last corner, so you may overtake between the exit of the last corner and the S/F line.

Any driver who loses his position on the rolling lap, by going off, blowing his engine or through contact with another car ( regardless of fault) must rejoin at the back of the field.
Incidents on the rolling lap ( Lap 1) will be fully modded and anyone found to have caused another competitor to lose position through bad driving will be penalised appropriately.
Also, please make sure that you know which car you should be following on the rolling lap, so that you do NOT get out of position.

The teams have been chosen and the cars are polished and ready to go.

psssst. I think I got away with it, nobody else noticed, and even if they did perhaps they will go to the wrong circuit and we will have less opposition  ;)

Running in a fairly comfortable 10th place with about a dozen laps to go and got a screen freeze :(

D'oh, suffered a screen freeze. Shame that as I was really enjoying the race despite being one of the slower runners. I suppose what comes around goes around, after benifitting from other people's misfortune at Surfer's Paradise.

Screen Freeze City, it seems.  :(  I got a lock while running about P9 at around 2/3 distance.

I'm really keen to view the server replay as to what happened at T1 of L1 that dropped me to the back of the pack and to see why Axel was so keen to give me the short back & sides ON THE FRIGGIN' PACE LAP.

Screen freeze for me too. Was having a nice race running behind Evil & FMG.

Is this a track problem or a GT problem?

I don't think the track has a problem. We ran last week in BREASTS just fine and it was OK. It was fine a while back in the Privateers championship as well.

I simply crashed

Was feeling good and driving within myself so I thought 'I can go quicker'. Oops. No I couldn't. Started again and let everyone past - agggh Geoff has caught me - I can get him.... down to T1, easy pass... unfortunately I couldn't make it stick :( no 2nd Shift R so that was that :(

WD everyone who finished. Tough track for the big GTs. At least I didn't take out the boss this time...

Sorry Doni!

After this starting chaos I had no idea whom to follow, but you showed me until I understood  ::)
And it was me again who reared you into T1 as I was surprised by this difference in our speed entering T1, sorry!

My race was horrible as my engine blew in lap 2 just on the SF line and later when I tried to get some places back blew again.

I did 17 laps at practice.till I ran out of fuel..qual and fuelcheck simultaniously. I rushed in to calculate fuel for the race but  as I started to click fuel up I forgot how much fuel gave me those 17 laps
I entered with 5 secs to go with 4-5 gallons extra fuell. My mind was very occupied by this and I looked to the right where the flagguy usually is...Even if he wasn t there.I didn t know he flagged before ppl started to pass me, then I saw him. So sorry for the startmess especially since (was it Doni) suffered from the confusion.
Still busy thinking wether I had way to much or would run dry I had a couple of sloppy laps before I got a decent pace. All went fine until I saw a car standing sideways in the sjicane. I managed to brake down almost enough and bumped through unharmed. Barresi (who had me in line of sight between himself and the sideways car) bumped into me and I was facing backwards. sat there until the hole field passed.at least I thought it was the hole field so when I was doing back forwards for ages(scared to rev the engine to spin it round) another car came and ran off because off me. Sorry for that too. I just decided for myself everyone passed in the stress. I could easily turned the car without blocking the hole road but adrenaline stole my mind.
All in all it ended up being a very interessting race trying to catch up. It was not as easy as I had thought since there were some good defenders out there. It was frustrating yet felt very realistic and challenging. I m glad I didn t loose my head and bumped ppl out. The last 7-8 laps or so was behind evils hangarship with his hangarship engine and I swapped position with Juha couple of times.

EDIT: Just looked at rpy and flag never showed before I had run like 50 yrds. because I have it on 70 percent detail? weird. However luckily nobody had an off from my roadblock. I thought Blood went off but he didn t:)

I was surprised to hear about the screen freezes as Edmonton has always been reliable in the past, especially after the discos at Pacific Raceways in the last race.

I did hear a few negative comments about this circuit but I felt that it was well suited to the GTs and really did even out the different chassis. The Lolas were at last prevented from racing away at the front in their own little battle.

mark showed again that he has that Mk2 Ford well and truly sorted and seemed well in control after the first 10 laps. Nice driving mark  ;D
It took a while for me to get the lumbering great Mk4 tamed. I confess that I spent a good few hours on Saturday developing the setup that I had used at Pacific Raceways, which was showing promise. I seemed to have cured most of the probs that dog the Mk4, it turned in very quickly ( which I like  ;D) and only locks the brakes if I abuse them. Some adjustments to the gear ratios also improved the terminal velocity at the end of the straight.
Qually went reasonably well but I was trying too hard and kept outbraking myself at the end of the straight ..that Mk4 needs plenty of tarmac to scrub off speed.
After the rolling lap I was hoping to blitz past a couple of Porkers on the first flying lap but cold tyres and full tanks did not help me to get onto the straight close enough to do any damage. After 2 or 3 laps I managed to lock onto Al's Porsche and blew past him on pure power only to find a coupler of cars disputing the right to the tarmac just before the first right hander. The forced change to my preferred braking line helped ( I might have been going a little too quickly as well ::) ) to make me run wide and Al nipped back through in his Porsche.
It soon became clear that although the Porkers were nimble around the twisty bits, the straight was long enough to allow the power of the Mk4 to work to my advantage and if I could get in front of them I could drive my tank defensively and hold my place.

I soon found myself on my teammates tail and realised that we had a possible 2nd-3rd finish available for the team, so I did not want to risk taking FMG off the track with a risky pass, but then he ran onto the grass and I was presented with a simple passing chance and moved ahead  ;D.
The next 10 laps were a battle between the roadholding of the Porker and the brute power of the Mk4 as I stayed ahead by defensive driving and raw speed on the straights. I could see on prib that Tom and Juha were closing in on Tim and myself and I knew that the Lola would give Tim some big problems with its handling and extra speed on the straight.
At around this point in the race I was getting concerned about my fuel and I needed to short shift for a few laps to get back on schedule, so I eased over and allowed Tim through so that i could ride shotgun in my tank and the team would still get 2nd and 3rd points  ;D.
The next few laps were a little tense as I had to drive VERY defensively around the twisty bits, being sure to take a clean racing line and then get a good exit onto the straight to use the top speed of the Mk4 over the Tom's Lola and buy me some space. When Tom made a mistake and Juha appeared in my mirrors in his Mk2 things got even more tricky because I knew that Juha would be almost as fast on the straight.
By now I could see that my fuel was OK and I should have half a gallon left at the flag so I was able to max out the revs and drive hard for the last few laps. Fortunately Tom and Juha were having their own argument over 4th spot and allowed me to creep ahead and cross the line in a safe 3rd.
Then things got even better when Nigel brought the team Lola in in 8th to give Hiki Waza a 3 car finish and a great points tally to move us to the top of the table.

at the start when flag dropped i waited few second if KingHiro make his car move first but he didnt see the starter so i move first after 100m driving he make his place back luckily.  MK2B felt good and stable only brakes locked too often, i dropped 8th or something after my small and bigger mistakes , i did 4 offroads . Back to the 5th place after there was 2 cars disappearing on front of me same time (Heller and Thurston) ? there was opportunity to take 2 places up more but King Hiro with lola and Evil with his monster machine was making good defence.

great track great car it wasnt bad track for big GT's at all !  , setup was good but i did have  problems with brakes those locked too often (known problem) .
shame cookie broked his lola engine 2 times ! :-[ we dropped 2nd in the team champs now.

looking to Silverstone where mk2b should be good shape !
