Title: UKGPL Season 22 (2011-2012) Privateers (67) - Interlagos (1973-1989) - Mar 18
Post by: Ross Neilson on March 15, 2012, 09:40:50 PM +0000
Our destination this week is the hot and sunny circuit of Interlagos in Sao Paulo, Brazil. This event will be a test of endurance as much as speed with several long corners and little respite for the drivers. Points leader Ross Neilson extended his advantage last time at Watkins Glen but with three rounds to go the title battle is still wide open.

I agree Hendy. Not had time to try this yet, but it might be of use.

As a one off Works are running a fun race (non-championship) due to that Championships conclusion - you will all have heard of the sad death of Joe Shaw (Beefpie) I am sure. If a number of you do want to run in the fun race for whatever reason we can hold this round over until after Easter and the Privateers can continue then.

If, however, you would like the race to go on, please say. We are a club for our members and democratic.

Let me know what you think please.

No disrespect but I think we should do the race , I'm sure thats what Joe would have wanted .

however i will happily go along with the majority verdict  :)

That is our feeling as well Bernie but we understand that some might want to join Works as a one-off. Thanks for the feedback.

I think Joe would be honored, by the respect being paid to him here, and would want us to race. :)

What a terrible start :( !

it will not be easy for you, Ross, to moderate the first lap ...  !!

From my part, I made a mistake against the poor Billy Nobrakes. Sorry for that Billy !

Real nice track for the Brm. Kind of reminiscent of Atorp, with the fixed width turns...but loonger.

I would really like to see a Brm world record replay...apparently 2.47 is possible (on gplrank) but I was just glad to have made a PB during qualy... Some last minute gear changes and soft right tyres seemed to help bring it down. I was actually setting better segment times when I ran out of fuel...with only 10 minutes left I decided I should take what I already had and take a couple laps with race fuel to see how the car would handle.

Practice against A.Heller made me a bit nervous to see his time in the 2.51-range with the Lotus...but apparently that's what separates the Works from the Privs :D

Grats to Hunt & especially Curtis on making podium :)

I don't expect to do so well at Rouen...coming into Nouveau Monde is a terrifying prospect in the Brm  :o

Finally made the race after a hectic day out spent chucking balls for the grandkids to fetch  ::)

satisfactory qually and for the race was holding P3 fairly comfortably , though being chased hard all the way by Dave Curtis in his AAR eagle until the penultimate lap when I downshifted and lost the back end in that big long curve  ::)

Grats to the pods and all who survived

and Hello to all the Mums out there for Mumsday  ;D

I was happy enough to have managed to have grabbed 6th due to a PB.  But was amazed to have found myself running in 4th after a few laps!  Although looking at the replay, looks as though a vacuum suddenly opened up & sucked a bunch of cars into it.

I then somehow managed to keep Bernie in sight for most of the remainder of the distance - but he just did not seem to be making any mistakes!   I had already settled for that potential 4th,  although I was half-expecting to throw it away at any moment.  (From my limited runs round here,  seems any off involves losing a right-front wheel...!).

Honestly Bernie - bad luck on that slightest of mishaps;  thanks up until then for pulling me along for PB after PB.

I just managed to calm/slow it down a little to keep it on the track for the last lap or so;  but could see I was being hunted down all the time.

This was another one of the mystery tracks for me,  but it does start to kind of flow after a while.

Thanks all,

Cheers,
Dave.

Pretty awful performance from me, a whole season's worth of errors in one race plus I was just not quick enough.

During practice last week I could do mid 54s so hoped for that or better in qualifying but a combination of errors on my part and getting mixed up in others' problems left me with a high 56, in fifth place. I hoped to race better and get myself into second but it was clear from Hendy's excellent pole time that he was way clear of the pack.

Going into T1 I picked up a place or two but tried to give others room on the inside and skated off wide onto the gravel. I avoided hitting anyone, or being hit, but the ensuing melee might well have been triggered by me. Should keep the moderator busy anyway...

The rest of the race was spent trying to get into a rhythm and making silly errors all the time. Around halfway I settled down a bit and posted some reasonable laps, eventually getting into the top six after a couple of Black Nights had a dispute. I was closing down on Phil (a familiar feeling after Watkins) and he must have had a problem at some point as I passed him with two or three laps left.

I should have cruised to the end but another spin at T1 on the last lap left me with Dave Rainier close behind, in the end I was glad to see the flag.

Well done to everyone on the podium but particular congrats to Hendy on a dominant win in arguably the weakest car. Had you not taken the BRM all season you'd be winning the title battle I suspect. Also Dave Curtis in third confirmed the considerable progress he has made since the first race.

See you at Rouen after the Easter break.

There's not much of a tale to tell here.  Opted for the good handling Cooper, and was content to be amongst the battle, for 2nd on the grid.  I suspected, the BRM on pole, was actually a Lotus in disguise! >:(

A good start meant immediately up to 2nd, and continued all the way to 5th, before changing down for turn 3.  It was obvious during the first lap, it was Hendy's day for glory.  To try to stay with him, would be the road to ruin (that's next race!).  So I sat in second, for the entire race, and didn't see a single soul.  For me, the track was fun, but solitude.

An impressive display by our race winner.  How Hendy slipped that Cosworth past the scrutineers, I know not.  And a brilliant display by Dave Curtis in 3rd, who is making rapid progress - that's fair enough, that's far enough! ;D

One of those races which jsut didn't work out. Practice times were low 57's, even a 56. Couldn't hook up a decent quallifying run & only just scraped below 3 mins. Race pace was similarly disappointing.
Lost what little rythm I had after an incident with Dave Rainier, then knackered the engine. Took a shift R, slightly messed up the pit entrance for the SnG at which point I decided there might be something more intersting on TV. Unfortunately No FA cup highlights.
I do really like Interlagos but its one of those tracks where I am consistently rubbish. Maybe another chance to redeem myself in the Specs on Friday - maybe not.

Dave - haven't looked at the replay but no worries.

Didn't have many tokens so had to opt for the Cooper since I'm crap in the BRM (especially when compared to Hendy!!!).

Don't know what happened at the start but I was relieved to avoid the carnage.  Without prib I struggled to work out what position I was in, the pit board didn't stay up long enough to read the whole thing and I was a bit preoccupied with heavy braking into turn 1 to take my eyes off the track for long.  After a while I was pleasantly surprised to find myself in 6th place with a 20 second gap to the following car (Fran).  Or at least that is what I thought.  I was trying to bring the car home safely when I lost concentration and spun a couple of times and to my surprise got passed by 3 other cars, Ross amongst them (I didn't have a problem this time Ross, I was just crap).  I had no idea they were that close or that there was anybody other than Fran behind me.  There were such a lot of crashes on the first few laps I didn't think there were so many left in the race!

Anyway grats to Hendy on another fantastic drive on the BRM and well done Martin for grabbing another huge haul of points for Antipasti ;D

I guess it could be due to Easter holidays,  but no sign of the one-off silverware yet... ;)
Unfortunately, there really is no point in holding back to combine postage...
