Matt, there are three flavours of the 906-6. The basic 906-6, the fuel injected 906-E-6 and the longtailed variant. Are all three available for selection here?

I am away from home for two weeks so can't test.
I was thinking all 906's except the -8 and the "E" variant, but I can't remember whether the "E"
is particularly faster? The longtail can stay as it's usually slower except perhaps at Le Mans
it's the "E" I am unsure of.
Personally I like the 906-8 as it has a bit more grunt, but people don't always agree.

What do you think?

On paper it appears that the speed difference between the standard 906-6 and the fuel injected 906-E-6 is slight (10 kph approx). The in-game narrative states that the performance increase was minimal, it just made tuning the cars easier.

I'd say give the drivers a chance to choose.

Agreed.
I have used the "E" and the others before and found little difference in my times.
perhaps the"E" is slightly heavier? so people can choose any 906-6. Just no 906-8

Is this the right link?  PnG link should be to the GTR 2 list of tracks?

Albert Park, Melbourne (v1.1.0.0) is included in list of GTR 2 track links, here:-

https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3356

At least that's the one I think is right.  I downloaded from your link a little while ago and it didn't work.  When I checked it out today I found it was the GTL track. The GTR 2 track above works OK.

I always test the link I post, so it must have worked for me when I first posted it.
this Amazon link works ok, so thanks for sorting it.
if the link is dodgy I usually try to upload the track to my own web site, but I am workin away
for 3 weeks grr mutter mutter, so am a bit handicapped.
I am currently in Leeds next week so will be home for the races.  ;D

I commented on 906's being great @ Melbourne in another thread but totally forgot that I cannot attend this race.

Sry Matt if I influenced your car choice for this race.

Hope you have a good event tho.

Pahhhh! and I spent hours testing cars here....  ;)

Will not be wasted, I want a Ferri v Porch event somewhere if not here.
This track is nice with the 906s though, blame Tony for this one.

This is quite a challenge.

I'm worried that some may put it in the "Too Difficult" box and wait for something easier to come along.  ::)

My problem is lack of time to practice with all this good weather.  ;D  Been out labouring in garden, long job only about third done.  :(

Great choice of car for this track :thumbup1:
I've only tried the 'E' so far, has anyone noticed if it's significantly quicker than the regular 906?

Don't let the cunning Hecky Banker (Clive) put you off Bill, Melbourne is easy peasy
and the 906 is (cough) relatively friendly (for a squashed cement mixer that is)

Yes it will go where I point it  ;D - problem is knowing next bit of track. ???  Raced here before in GTL but there appears to be some subtle differences   ::) - kerb heights bend radii etc.  Still trying to relearn.

For me the E is a bit slower, and I have more trouble with the engine braking.
managed a 1:14.1 tonight while trying to work out fuel useage
Seem to be about 82 + litres for 20 laps

Tried the standard 906 last night and got almost identical times to the 'E'. I think I'll go with the standard, as the Dunlops on it feel better than the Goodyears which are on the 'E'.

B hopeless tonight, too far off pace with too many offs/lap to race - a mobile hazard.

Me too Bill. Left after a couple of laps. Didn't feel like I could improve and found the car too understeery and frankly wasn't having fun so quit. Have a good'un guys.

Had a good setup (thxs guys  ;) ) and just found a way how to improve my times a little bit
during quali (some proper laps without any sliding and with a new pb I think) but needed a great
number of laps to find my rhythm and than was absolutely unable to concentrate on braking
points etc during race simply due to fatigue  :( .
So I quitted after having realized that I was unable to reach laptimes under 2.24 with Bill and Tony
already out and Alex about 30 seconds in front of me.
BTW: found the 906E a little bit easier to drive so I decided to stay with it, the more as I was the
only 906E at the grid.

As I said in the chat, I have to get up at 04:45 in the morning every day throughout the week
and I'm underway for work for about 12 hours a day (6 a.m to 6 p.m. including 3 hours travel time)
so sometimes it's rather difficult to always find the right mood and during this week
I realized that my performance decreases from day to day.
Need some more sleep over this long weekend  :D.

However the main thing is still to have some fun during all these sessions with all of you guys  :)
Happy to be a small part of it and thanks to all involved for organizing all theses events.

Hope to see some of you guys tomorrow night over at GTLDK - LeMans  ;D

Grats John and Ade and keep at it Kurt.

I let Ade frighten me off the track on lap two and after that I couldn't close the gap.

Had fun getting back past Matt though.

Results and Replay Posted

Not my fave cars, but had some fun for a while getting in Clive's way after he went off
after that, was a lonely run round to the end.

It was nice to have a car that still had tyres on it at the end of the race.

I was paying particular attention to my up-shifts but the engine health dropped from 97% to about 80% at the end.  Probably some aggressive down shifts as I tried to stay in contact with Ade.

I had my chin on the tank all the way but couldn't get close to my PB of 2:11.7 which I had done in TT mode.

Then, towards the end, the fuel light came on and that lap was buggered by my attempts at mental arithmetic, which stretched the gap to Ade by a couple of seconds.

Unofficial LapChart (http://www.justanotherpage.nl//Srou/PnG/GTR2_Albert_Park_2012_4_5_20_44/)

Although a bit of a lonely race still enjoyed it. 906 is a foregiving racer and Melbourne has some nice (blind) corners which keep you busy!
Couldn't catch LesN so was left last of the runners.

Me too Bill. Left after a couple of laps. Didn't feel like I could improve and found the car too understeery and frankly wasn't having fun so quit. Have a good'un guys.
Too bad you had problems. The only snag the Porsche has are that the front brakes lock up very easily. Reverted to applying a minimum of brake to prevent the fronts locking..
Also a tad earlier braking helps the car turn in easier. It is slower initially but it helps you power out the corners in stead of fumbling to keep the car on the track.

This is a good read btw
