Title: UKGPL Season 22 (2011-2012) Novices (65) - Snetterton - Mar 27
Post by: BadBlood on March 26, 2012, 05:14:29 PM +0100
UKGPL Season 22 65 Novices Trophy
Race 8 Snetterton

Welcome to the 8th round of the Novices Trophy for Season 22. Wow - how have we got to round 8 already? Very different track to last time. This is the fabulous GPLEA redition of Snetterton 67, a very fast circuit but with enough technical sections to keep us all on our toes

The first lap will be fully moderated within the red zone. The red zone will cover the whole the first lap up to the last corner.

Please check the Season 22 pages for details (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=335&theme=6) regarding rules and the Novices Trophy (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=340&theme=6) pages in particular.

It is very important that drivers are FULLY familiar with the rules relating to Shift-R. EVERY Shift-R MUST be followed by a Stop-and-Go or the driver will be excluded.

Please see the Novices registration thread for an explanation of the chassis allocations shown below:
https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=9196.0

Please ensure that you take a valid chassis for your group. THIS IS IMPORTANT AS THE CHASSIS GROUPINGS AND YOUR SEEDING HAS CHANGED. Please check the Novice Chassis thread (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=9986.45). I will be checking.

There are some new faces potentially amongst us who have been assigned to Group I. Other drivers have also had seedings changed as part of an ongoing review. If you feel you have been wrongly seeded, please let me know.

I have found this to be the toughest circuit to learn yet, it is really tricky and has taken me quite a while to get round once without incident. ???

Pity mate - it was fun and I was crap - same old same old ;)

Had great fun chasing Pierre down. Every time I caught him I crashed! He was super fair when I did catch him and Jason stopped him coming back at me...

Sorry to Rog who I took out on lap 2. Caught me out a bit at the second corner. Locked up and couldn't avoid you. Know it ruined your race. Sorry mate.

I finished the race more frustrated than happy with my own mistakes again costing me dearly. After 4 or 5 laps I was up to second with a nice setup on the Honda letting me brake late and get the Honda power down early. I made inroads on the leader but think that I was on a knife edge and he was well within himself. A miss judged braking zone saw my 100 marker shoot past before I expected it and left me with lots of speed and no road. I reset and headed for the pits, but not before a Honda (Giovanni I think) filled my mirrors- I moved over then dashed for the pit entry only to collect the car behind him- sorry blito. After another s&g  I just tried to reel on the man in front who I never caught. Hopefully I'll have a wheel and pedal setup soon which may help me be a little more consistent instead of my game pad. Snetterton was a good choice and when you find the groove is really rewarding.

Crap race for me my own fault was just not prepared, did a 1.31 qual and thought would be ok in race, no way was slow off start and just could not find the pace (Badblood lap 2 not all your fault i braked and turned in slightly early causing incident) did a shift/r and lap 3 stop and go.   Grats to podium.

Well done podium. Not a good one for me. Car just "went off" on lap 2 turn 2 like I had no control over it!. Dropped to 8th. Some how got to 5th then spun near the end & lost that to finish 6th. I was rubbish & so was the Honda handling but there's only me to blame for both of those. Ugh

My race was fun.... I downloaded the track just minutes before joining the server but was comfortable with doing this as I have raced the track before and knew it would come back to me with just a few laps practice. And so, with my BT7 still wearing its race-winning Kyalami setup I set off to see just how slow it would be..... and in a straight line it was VERY slow but just as at Kyalami the car was a dream to drive - grippy and forgiving. I quallied as well as could be expected, got a great start and was pleased with my pace right from the word go. As already mentioned there was one "brown trouser" moment when I was following Fabio closely when Johnny tried to dive between us for the pits - I was lucky to have an undamaged car from that collision, and luckier still to be facing the right way and only lost a few seconds despite the force of the collision!   I then had a great battle with Al who was driving really really well and was able to use his cars extra grunt to pull away from me.
Overall I'm delighted to be 3rd  and delighted to point out that its my 3rd pdium from 4 starts this season although I dont think the car really deserves such glory!
Great fun guys - cya'll at Mosport where I hope the BT7 might not be such a handicap!

Well I am still sorry Rog! I looked at the replay and I have to admit that your first attempt to make the pits did make me laugh...

@Norm - I found my car spinning at Turn 2 after braking on the straight :(  Rog nipped past as I went cartwheels...

It was fun, indeed.
I didn't tried such track with 65s before Monday morning but I found my pace very soon
Really, I didn't expect to be a competitive one!
I was also surprised by Al's speed on such track.

A quite good starting place, when trying the most of the qualify period with full tank to look for a race pace...

Not a bad race start and after some laps I realized I was in a 2nd place!

Unfortunately, Al decided to do some bomb diving in my Honda at the hairpin: let's see what the mods will think about it.

The following lap, at the same turn, while he was giving me back the second place (thx mate!!) my engine exploded  :cursing: :censored: :cursing: :censored: :cursing:

Really don't know if I overrev my engine trying to catch Al, if it was a consequence or our contact or if it was only a bad luck, but these are reces, isn't it?

After s+r I was back at 5th place and after few lap up on 4th place and it wasn't possible to catch the last podium place...

Grats to everybody raced, to the podium and to the race organization.

Cu soon on track

fL

Hello, I'm a bit late but here it goes anyway.

First of all sorry to Fabio, the incident was my fault, I got my braking wrong, I tried to back out of it but I was too hot and just about the only thing left for me to do was try to pass on the inside but I was in your blind spot. Sorry about that, I did try to let you past on the next lap, but your engine blew.

I have been practicing for this race much more than I have before, I was hoping for a good result. In qualifying I was on pole for almost the whole session, I was really hoping for my first pole position, but it wasn’t to be as Norm pulled a fanatics lap out of the bag and left me second, great lap Norm well done. I’d already done a PB so I couldn’t go any faster.

As the race started I got an OK start, I was holding position. My car didn’t really like full tanks and cold tyres so I started slowly to build everything up. Rob drove around the outside of me at the hairpin, and Norm had a little off at some point, so going into the second or third lap I was second, closely following Rob Venn. I made a small mistake and half spun the car, letting Rob go and putting me back into the pack with Fabio and Jason. I had some good racing with these two for basically the whole race.

I almost felt sorry for Jason, as he was really pushing that BT7 around quickly, his only weakness was the straight, which I used to pass him when ever I made a mistake and was behind him. Myself and Fabio had a little coming together, which again I’m sorry for, but after and after I got past Jason again I settled down a bit and ended up second, before the mods report.

Second is still my best result in GPL (before the mods report), so I am pretty happy. I don’t think I could of beat Rob as he drove a near enough perfect race.
