Title: The Joe Shaw Memorial Trophy
Post by: Ross Neilson on March 27, 2012, 04:46:51 PM +0100
Season 22 - Joe Shaw Memorial Trophy

Following the early conclusion of the Works Trophy we've got some free race slots coming up. The plan is to run a three race series in Joe's name, using the 1967 cars and taking place on UK circuits which Joe enjoyed racing on in real life. The races will take place every two weeks starting this Sunday. Points will be awarded under the usual system and the races will be moderated.

The intention is for the Works drivers to take part in a genuinely competitive series as the moderators felt this was a better way to honour Joe than a series of fun races.

The division specific rules are the same as this season's Works Trophy, with two notable exceptions. The first is that no scores will be dropped, given the short nature of this series. The second is that chassis choice is more open, a driver can choose any chassis but they must use a different chassis for each race.

Please check the Season 22 pages for details (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=335&theme=6) regarding rules and the Joe Shaw Memorial Trophy (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=355&theme=6) pages in particular.

The races will be run as follows:

Car set: 67 F1 only
Date: Every second Sunday from 1 April 2012
Time: no later than 9:00pm UK Time (30-60 mins practice, race starts at 9:30pm)

Thanks for your support guys. Privateers will be able to enter this event as they are not racing this Sunday, but the other two rounds will clash with the last two Privateers events.

However assuming there's room on the grid I will be giving this one a go myself (and trying to avoid being lapped by Attilio, Al and co.!).

Great news Cookie, welcome on board. I think that is sixteen confirmed with Hristo looking likely and perhaps Arf^3 too.

At the moment one server will suffice but if we get a couple more I will put the Privateers onto a second server. In that case Cookie it would be up to you which server to race on. If you're intending to compete in all three races in the series then you will need to go on the first server in order to score points.

Just to confirm, round 2 will take place at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit after it was tested earlier this week.

It's a short lap (around 51 sec) and will provide a different sort of challenge to Silverstone and Oulton Park. Anyone who raced at Lakeside in Grads last season will have some idea of what to expect :)

Yup, it looks like I'll be around. Bermuda's overrated at this time of year anyway, Paul!....

If there is still room, I'd also like to turn up for just the Silverstone event.

But,  I don't want to cause any trouble/additional admin work!  [especially after leaving it until this late on the day - but looks like I am available after all].   Maybe treat me as a reserve if that makes things easier.

Cheers,
Dave.

You're very welcome Dave. Drivers will be split into two servers, GPG will run the Works drivers and T7 is for Privateers - exactly the same as any other Sunday.

Any other driver wishing to join in can choose which server to race on depending on their skill level.

We're running two servers so plenty of room, join T7 with the other Privateers as you would normally do.

Just a reminder to everyone, you are not allowed to use any chassis more than once in this series. A couple of drivers have used the same car in both of the first two races. In the spirit of the series there won't be any penalty - just make sure you use a different chassis for the last race please.
