In the 60's and 70's, Rouen was considered by many drivers as one of the most difficult track !
In the magazine World Sports Cars in 1994, the former Lotus F1 driver Trevor Taylor wrote the way down to Nouveau Monde was terrific, dangerous as the "abominable" Masta Kink in Spa, and even more than the Nordschleife .
One of the bravest driver, David Purley (remember Zandvoort 1973), said to Trevor the only way he had to run full gas here was to scream in his helmet, exactly what he was doing when he was parachutist.
(sorry for the translation, hope it is understandable !)

so beware tonight, especially on lap 1 ...else we will see that :

Well that was a race I would rather forget...
Turned up in the server for qually with ZERO pre-race practice under my belt and chose the BRM on a whim.... Well, it wasnt easy getting to speed in the beast but I was reasonably happy with my guessed-at setup.... right up to the hairpin on lap one when I got caught in someone elses accident.... set off after the hairpin in a car that now felt a little different but actually was lapping at some good pace......
..... which started to show up the flaws in my setup - the front left tyre started to overheat after just a few laps and I started to loose grip at unpredictable moments....  after a few laps of spinning I did the decent thing and retired before I ruined anyone else's race.....

Got stuck after hitting the polos at the dreaded hairpin about 1/2 distance. GPL game seemed to be working rather than frozen but I couldn't get any response - tapped Shift R & escape several times whilst the leaders nimbly maneuvered past me - was going for the off button when the escape finally worked. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

My mistake trying to change approach to Paradis mid-race...hit the outer bales and into the trees.

Grats to podium & Thornton who managed a clean overtake.

Got back late from a week away on holiday so only had time to join the server with 5 mins of qually left.  Did a couple of laps on race fuel and the car felt good but I was way down the grid.  There were some very fast times up front and nice to see Alan on pole on his return to UKGPL.  The start of the race was a bit frantic with a couple of incidents on lap 1.  Fortunately I managed to pick my way through the carnage without any damage to my car.  Then I had a very entertaining race trying to pick my way through the field.  I eventually worked my way up to third place, thanks more to other people's misfortunes rather than my skill (but I did manage to pass Hendy on the inside at T1, not easy, he was flying in the BRM as usual but I think it was a clean move).  I kept the gap to Alan in second place at a pretty constant 30 seconds but I couldn't get any closer.  I kept pressing on in case the leaders made a mistake but they were too good.

Grats to Dave on a fine win and to Alan for pole, fastest lap and second place.

Bit of a scrap early on then made a few cockup's then found myself alone chasing shadows   ::)

Almost dosed off a few times , but the smell of tortured rubber ( or was it me underpants catching fire) woke me up with a jolt .

Waste of a good Lotus really , Colin would not have been amused  ???

I blame the pies , just dont taste the same these days , or maybe its the sauce ? Yea that's it , too much sauce before the race

'orrible smell of burning rubber coming from somewhere  :-\

Another struggle for me, off the pace again and too many errors in the race. Glad to salvage fifth place in the end as I probably had the pace for only 6th or 7th.

Well done to Dave on a fantastic win, Allan for returning with a pole, fastest lap and second place and Phil for showing me how it should be done in terms of keeping out of trouble :)

Should be a great scrap at the last round to see who can win the championship.

I've spent the past few days reinstalling everything onto a new SSD but hadn't got round to tweaking the power settings with the result that my screen went blank just as Rainier and Allan were about to lap me. Fortunately I ran off the track so I don't think any harm was done but apologies for any alarm caused. :o
Qualifying was poor but I managed to gain a few places by avoiding a couple of L1 pile ups but then threw the advantage away in typical fashion by having a spin and falling back to the tail end.
Apart from taking turns with Billy to end up off the track and swap places, the race was fairly uneventful but I managed to finish without any resets.

My first race back after a rather nasty operation.   I was very surprised to get Pole.    I got away to a good start and was just getting into a rythm when I blew my enigine just after the hairpin, on Lap 2.  Dave and , I think, Blito went through while I was trying to reset and I was rather slow getting under way.  Fabio arrived and tried to go round the outside in the Left hand bend before Sanson.  There was room but he got a wheel on the grass and his Eagle got away from him. (sorry).  Towards the end of the lap Dave went too deep into Scierie and spun and Hendy took the lead in the BRM.  Dave getting away before I arrived.  At the start of Lap 3, I was 9 seconds behind the leader.   The leading BRM got sideways through Paradis on Lap 4, clipped the bales on the outside and went off into the scenery.  Dave took the lead six seconds in front of me.  This increased to seven seconds on Lap 8 but I had it down to five seconds on Lap 9, four seconds on lap 12.  Dave ran wide through the left hand bend before Sanson and at the end of the lap the gap was down to 2 secs.  Lap 14, There was a Brabham sideways at the hairpin.  We both manage to squeeze through but Dave had gained a little and the gap was three seconds.  Lap 18 I had it down to two seconds and Lap 19, one second.   I dived deep into the hairpin and gained a bit more and was only a few lengths behind as we accelerated away. I got a good drive onto the back straight and pulled out of Dave's slipstream and dived down the inside into Scierie to try and take the lead, locked the brakes and slid wide.  Dave must have been laughing his socks off.   I must learn to be more patient.   By the time I got going again Dave was ten seconds up the road and he just stroked it home from there.  Great battle. I really enjoyed that (except the last bit).   Congratulations to Dave, a Great drive and he showed me how to keep calm under pressure.  Phil had an impressive drive up through the field to get on the podium.
Nice to be back and to know that at 75 I'm still competitive.
Allan

I'm not sure whether this is the place to post this but I have been trying to download 'Road America' but it's saying that something is missing in the season.ini file.    All the files seem to be there but it won't install.
I'm just trying to install it to ' C:\SIERRA\gpl\tracks' , but it it adds 'seasons\67 season' on to the end.
Does any have an idea of what the problem might be?
Allan

Try installing to the main GPL folder Allan - no need to select the tracks folder. :)

I can't get this to load either

The track install runs OK , says its installed,  but it don't work

No track in GEM

No track in GPL tracks folder ?

thinking perhaps I have  reached the physical limits of tracks in my GPL tracks folder  :-\

Mod published - a bit earlier than usual and I didn't set a deadline for incident reports either. If anyone still wants to submit then you've got until the end of Monday. Cheers.

Sorry guys.  Completely forgot about stop and go for resets.  I'd thrown the race  by then,  by outbraking myself in Scierie, then sort of lost concentration.
Must try harder

It's a shame Allan as you drove a great race. For the record you took two resets, one at 3m50s when you blew the engine on the run up the hill from the hairpin, the second after the incident at Scierie that you mentioned. You are only allowed one reset and must take a stop and go within two laps.

See you at Road America on Sunday - try not to be so quick this time!!
