Giving this and the next few weeks a miss - wife scheduled for Caratact opp.  Will be concentrating on Real GTL and 1950s where I've tested and setup for the track/car combos.  I will return.

Bearing in mind that I am carp at virtual 911s, I get within 2 tenths identical times with both cars using my setups
The RSR is likely a bit quicker in the right hands, but the 275 Spec is faster on the straights, and for me at least
an easier drive. I think there will be more difference in the drivers than the cars.

I simply couldn't drive the Porsche, the last time we raced them, so I'm definately going with the Ferrari

My times at at my house, not there again until Thurday eve.
I "think" I was getting 1:55.2 in both cars, though it might have been 1:58.2.....   ::)

p.s Did you go to the Steam rally thing last weekend Clive? was good fun.

Don't know about a steam rally and by the sound of it I can't remember my times properly either.   ::)

Edit:  Just checked and I was right. 1:47.66 in TT mode.

1:47's for me too in the RSR, with race fuel and offline praccy sesh.  Difficult track due to complete lack of features trackside to gauge braking points or even what turn your approaching! Track map helped  :P

I will if you will.....

We, well me at least, have (has) run here several times in the past with GTL. I tend to brake too late at the 2nd 3rd and 4th turns
actually almost everwhere  :o

I thought most people would know it. it usually makes for some good racing.

I have also run this track at least three times in the past in GTL. I find that an ideal line is almost impossible to achieve.

EDIT: But after tonight's on line praccy I don't think I'll bother with this'n. I'm all over the place. If I get time I'll give Matt's setup's a try but I'm usually hopeless with other folks setups. Grump.  :(

Hi Tony,

I tried the Ferrari after you had gone and I can't drive the thing either.  Couldn't get below 2:02, mainly because I couldn't keep the thing on the track for the out lap!

Get in a Porsche!

Get in a Porsche!

Yup, pretty stable. Even can catch a mid-corner slide and I'm certainly not a  :alien:

Watch out for the downshift tho. Managed to destroy a gearbox again

anyone know what the ideal power diff setting should be for cambered low rise turns like this track has plenty of?  I am finding its a fine line between getting on the power too early or power-oversteering off! I tried 80, 60 and 30 and it appeared the lower diff setting prevented the rear wheels from powering me into power oversteer a bit better, but not convinced.  :-\

Hmm. I turn up at events where  I don't particularly like the car/track combo I just take it as a challenge.
Try my setups guys if you haven't already, They are not perfect, but are drivable for me, and I am no alien.
The Ferri is horrible with default setup, and I spin the porch into corners for fun with it's default.
That's why I posted setups.

For power diff I tend to run very low numbers depending on the car. for something light that has way too much power, then I might
use 70% or more, for these sort of cars I would mostly use 20% or 30% or for big heavy Yank Iron even down to 10%

I've done many, many, many laps of this place on 250GP bikes, my old RG500 and in the odd sidecar....but making these cars follow similar lines is not an easy job. For those unfamilliar, double apex at Southern Loop, slightly late entry at T3 so your approach to Honda is straighter and loaded on all 4 corners. Late entry is a must to Siberia, or you find yourself running out of road on the exit. Any line you like through the Hayshed really as long as you can set up a fast, tighter approach to Lukey Heights. The widest entry possible into MG (the hairpin)and carry as much speed as you can through T11 and thru Turn 12 onto the straight. Stay right til after the bridge in the straight during pract/qually as the pit gate is in a silly place really. there you go, a lap in a nutshell.....Easy eh?

a TT lap to chase would have been nicer  ;)  :-*  but thanks for the insider knowledge! Funny enough, the only onboard vid i had watched of this track was on motorbikes  :)

Had a cracking race despite the lower turnout this week.  :)

Qualied 2nd  :)
Race start was another cock up unfortunately. I sat there looking at a green light (hadnt seen any reds!) and staring at Clives car not moving. Then when the usual avalanche from behind turned up i decided it was time to move !!

Had a good early dice with Matt, sorry for the clumsy move down the inside but i had no control over the cold tyres and brakes whilst off the racing line and downhill  :o wanted to let you back in front but then Ade started attacking you.

Then had a good fight with Ade for a few laps until he detonated his engine at the end of the s/f straight...silly boy  ;D That allowed me to chase after Clive who had a 6 second lead. I gradually whittled this down to over many laps, closing all the time and then started to really put the pressure on in the final 5 minutes. Clive made full use of the 'Widebody' RSR and drove very defensively, even braking mid apex on fast corners, naughty man! which nearly caught me out a couple of time (isnt that called brake testing?  ;) )
We had a proper battle on the final lap and closed right onto his bumper on the final straight for a photo finish. I'd had a better exit out of the final turn and really thought i would get him but he sat the car right where it needed to be and won the race.
Well done Clive for the win and i am very happy with 2nd  8)

............ even braking mid apex on fast corners, naughty man! which nearly caught me out a couple of time (isnt that called brake testing?  ;) )

Nope.

It's called "Oh bugger I've gone in too quick and need some steering!"

Good race Mark.

I think that I missread my engine health on the grid.  I'm sure it said 90something.

After about 8 laps I saw that it said 23%.  EEEEK!

I went all "Driving miss Daisey" and once I had started it I couldn't stop.  After a while I came to the conclusion that I had just missread it but by then my front tyres started to go off which caused me to lift in a couple of places to stay on the grey bit and I then had Mark all over me.

WD Mark and also to John too in that silver heap!  ;D  Those silver hazard bollards were tricky in practice and qually.  ::)  (Waits for death threats from Fifosi)

PS  Also grats to John on what must have been his best start this season.  Had he made it to T1 in 1st place then everything would have been different.

PPS  @ Matt.  Are you in Southport this week end?  I'm down at Victoria Park doing a spot of rc car racing.  (In the rain)

Unofficial LapChart (http://www.justanotherpage.nl/Srou/PnG/GTR2_mmmphillip_2012_4_26_20_42/)

Really liked the Porsche and this flowing track.
Had an unfortunate coming together with fellow Porsche driver one the first lap in which I lost some expensive piece of body kit at the front.
Huge understeer in fast corners and even more wobblier ride forced me to go to plan B (=keeping the car on the grey stuff).
Managed to keep some pace but was slightly distracted on the straight and shifted down to 3rd = Motor Kaputt.
A bit annoyed about that but other a fine run in these classic 911's.

Congrats to Clive. Watched your last lap with MJ  :) .

This weekend I will mostly be eating humble pie, as I probably will get beat at Aintree sprint on Saturday. Will be in Southport tonight and the rest of
the weekend. Might still have grandchildren (not mine) so maybe a trip to the park would be a good idea  8)

You could then, accidentally and purely by chance, fall over the racing.   ;D

I shall be putting my tent up from about 10:00am and the finals are usually around 4:00pm.

at least for an hour or two.

Grats Clive & Mark :thumbup1:

Quite a lonely race here, with mistakes creeping in once my attention began to wander. I didn't try the RSR beforehand and was guessing it would be a second or two quicker, that was until Ade showed just what it was capable of with a 1:45.x in practice :o

Bit of a shame, as it turned into a multi-class race instead. I wonder if the IROCs might be a more suitable adversary for the 275 speciale next time. I know they're not everyone's cup of tea, but they are usually a bit slower than the RSRs.

I think you right John. I tried IROCs and they were too slow in my hands, but maybe would have been a good idea for Aliens
or those touched by them  ;D

The racing was called off after Q1.  Shame, was my best chance ever with all the great and the good going home because they were a bit damp.  Wimps!
