Title: Help with the MX5's
Post by: quicksilver384 on April 27, 2012, 08:57:46 PM +0100
Hey guys.

I have just completed my first full race with the MX5's and am loving iRacing, however I am finding it hard. Does anyone have any advice with this car??

I can do 20 laps relatively trouble free maybe 1 or 2 spins but nothing major, the only thing I can think of is going a bit slower but then I will be annoying other drivers. I have read the tutorial and other guides I have found and have watched the videos which do help but still cant be consistent.

Also I started in 15th, finished in 11th but still only got 0.06 licence point things. I got 18 inc points, does that have a big effect on the licence?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If it helps to view my stats ect. my username is John Souter.

Thanks.

Err yes, your incident point have a big affect on your SR, safety rating. Gaining SR is about driving clean. I would say 18 is alot. You basically need to drive as clean as you can, if that means slowing down then slow down! You shouldnt be racing people in the rookie classes, its all about getting out of it so drive clean and be paitent, you've got 12 weeks, or get to 4.0. Good luck

Reduce your force feedback, as it will make it a lot easier not to spin, especially when racing Lime Rock! I think I have MX-5 on 5 or 6 in game rather than 12!

I wouldn't worry too much about being in club Celtic.  club England and club Celtic will be merging "soon".

Ironically the Scotland, England and Ireland clubs may be about to merge back into a unified UK & Ireland club.

That I can live with. I just don't like people assuming that I'm Scottish just because I live here. It's a beautiful country but I am English. :-)

Woop Woop My first podium. Taking it steady all the way some people fell off and I got passed. then 4th most of the race until the hill before the corkscrew 3rd spun on the last lap so I got passed :-)

Only got 7 points too so alot better.

English is such a funny language - "passed" versus "past". I wouldn't normally bother being a spelling/grammar Nazi but in this case the mistake completely reverses the meaning.

I think that's how fast track works, assuming it applies to Rookies too - the next round of 'normal' promotions is either at the end of Monday or a week later as we're in week 12 now.

According to the iRacing calendar the Rookie promotions are on 30th so I got plenty  of time.

If you can get up to say 4.01 by the end of Monday, you'll get "instant" (after an hour or two) promotion & then get promoted post-midnight for being a D3.01.. meaning that effectively, for having 3 clean races, you'll go from being a R2.50 to a C2.01 :notworthy:

umm in English please? lol I'm a bit confused.

According to my MPR it says I am eligible for promotion now but rookie promotions aren't until 30th

No, because as well as the SR requirement, to go from D to C he also needs to have done four races or TTs in a series that counts towards his MPR, i.e. a D series (one of the GT Cup, Mustang Cup, or Skippies). You can skip levels using Fast Track but you need to get your SR above 4 and then 'race up' (or timetrial up); as a Rookie, that means one of those series I just listed for the road license. Then from C you can go straight to A by getting to C4+ then 'racing up' in a B series for four or more events and getting to 4.99, so two iterations of fast track take you from C4.99 to B4+ and then from B4+ to A.

Yeah, there's an extra agonising week 13 at this end of a full season, but if you get to SR 4+ you'll go to D in 'fast track', which happens within a couple of hours.

I'm still confused.

It does say I'm ready for promotion.

And you are... but it would happen without a couple of hours if you got your SR to 4+. At 3.x you have to wait until the pre-fasttrack rookie promotions run at the end of week 4, 8 or (next week) 13. I don't think they run them in week 12 because licenses aren't really important during week 13.

EDIT: if you do what it says and look at the Calender (http://members.iracing.com/membersite/member/calendar.jsp) (under Events on the membersite menu bar thingy) it confirms that the final set of promotions for a season are done at the end of W13, not 12.

You don't have to wait for midnight; get time trialling. ;)

EDIT: or qualifying, that's actually faster for road series as long as you stay incident free as the SR factor for Q sessions is a half, whereas for TT it's only a third (IIRC) compared to racing.

Sorry for more questions but I managed to get Rookie 4.37 and now I am class D 3.37 Should I have lost that 1.0 or does it matter?

It's normal - read Dennis Grebe's excellent guide (http://members.iracing.com/jforum/posts/list/2220.page) to SR if you really want to know.

You can't fast track this week because there aren't any series running that meet your MPR, but it's probably a good plan to get your SR up to 4 so that you have the choice when 2012S3 starts next week of either racing in a D-class series and going up to C or 'racing up' in a C class series and heading straight for B; the latter would open up things like the GT Challenge and Grand Am series, the fixed IndyCar series, the Radical and the Star Mazda championships too.

I can't see a compelling reason to worry about fast track to A because the only A road series is the F1 car, and getting to B4+ will let you race that anyway.
