Have to go out and I probably won't be back in time for this.  Pity I really like the 66s and the track.

Have a good race and thanks to Goran for organizing a great season.

feck feck feck
Spent the whole of practice trying to tame a very wayward ferrari only to write the thing off at stowe corner on lap one... Sorry to the white car ( Goran perhaps?) for the bumper car fun - I missed the brake point by a fraction - would have made the corner alright if you lot upfront hadn't stopped to admire the flowers!

duh!!!  I managed a few laps more than you Jason...but only just.   :o

There must be something wierd goin' on down at Stowe, because I missed my braking point too and ran way too wide . And then, just as I slowed right down on the grass some sneaky sod of dubious parentage nicked one of my wheels!!  You don't get the same class of spectator at Silverstone nowadays  :-\

Got an important phone call just as qually finished. Had to drive lap 1 with one hand and couldn't change down... very hard. Started to catch Nigel but the engine let go on lap 8 which was frustrating as I did not over rev it.

Pity.

Hoped that Goran, Al and Evil were OK but I think Goran was mortally wounded and I see Evil went out :( - Heller time methinks... can Goran limp home?

I'll be an interested spectator.

Again a pity 'cos I was really starting to enjoy it.

No practice , default set up = 4th place (inherited rather than won) nice dice early on with Rainier and Mad dog , Dave getting the better of us , Martin spinning out and then I think Dave popped his engine and retired .

My 2nd Histerical finish , must be something in the air ( well it can't be the hair cos I dont have enough of that ) more on me chin than me head  ::)

Grats to Al and the pods boys and all others who stayed around long enough to see the chequer   :)

Grats to Al and Goran who will now contest the championship on scores dropped, after moderation of course ;)

If I had been a little more alert ( read awake!) I might just have stolen this season's championship, but once again I blew it.

I could have taken any car for this race but decided I would rather have some good racing against Al and Goran plus a few others so, I took the Eagle.

Not a total masochistic move, because I knew that I had a setup that worked and it would be on the straights that I would be vulnerable to the more powerful cars.

To sneak pole was a real shocker, by far a PB almost 2 secs faster than I achieved off line and although I had a small draft from Fulvio, I had to back off through Woodcote to avoid rear ending him and probably missed the chance to go sub 1:30!!.

I confess that I really gave it full wellie off the line and for the first lap and definitely risked some damage to the engine just to get a gap before the Hangar Straight where someone might have been able to draft past. I felt that I was just able to ease away from Goran who had popped into 2nd spot and when he dropped off prib I felt reasonably comfortable with Al about 200mtrs back after 3 laps.
Maybe I should not have relaxed? because I hurtled way past my braking point for Stowe without a thought and realised all too late that I was not going to make the corner!! :o  :-\ I almost pulled it around as I ran onto the grass, but the wall claimed my front wheel as a toll.

At the speed you were going I was surprised you could make ANY corner!

Bad luck mate.

Oh! taking corners at that speed is easy..... close eyes......stamp on brakes....turn wheel.....wait for crunch...no crunch? ....stamp on gas......open eyes....aim at next corner..........simples  ;D

What a roller coaster. When the race begun I though I knew the conditions. If Evil won I needed to be 3rd and if Al won I needed 6Th. So I started from 4Th, Fulvio passed so I was in 5Th when we came up to Stowe. Somehow the front runners were quite slow so I had to brake harder then expected but I managed to stop before hitting anybody, unfortunately Jason was not that lucky but helped me over the fence.

But I was lucky enough to end up right side up but outside the fence. After a mile or two I managed to get back on the track just to find out that my car was hopeless in right hand corners but I was still running and now I just had to wait for the others to run into problems. Evil was soon missing from my pribluda and that meant that I "only" had to manage 6Th, I was 9Th at that moment. Because the car was very hard to drive I had to focus on not being in the way for others and at times I was not really as successful as I would have wanted, I am sorry if anybody got into problems because of me and I keep thinking about if it was that wise to stay in the race, came to the conclusion that it was not and carried on.

Things got even worse when I on top of things lost a front wheel, but I still managed to keep going and at the finish I was in 7Th, so in my mind I had lost the championship to Al, who won. I tried to think of Al`s missfortune at the Nurburg race, you know you win some and lose some but did not really succeed.

Anyway I hurried to import the result and generate standings and got me a real shock. There I was at the top of the table. How was that possible? It turned out that before the race my two worst results were the 0 points from the Rouen race where I did not come to start because of a power cut at home and the 5Th from the Halle race were my engine gave up on me in the lead but I finished 5Th with 28 points.

So, I had done it all for nothing, Al  was never in a position where he could beat me. Before the race with his two worst result's gone he had 285 points and if he won he would get 335 but I allready had 338 and would not lose anything so if I had been a better mathematician I could, as soon as Evil was out of the race, have parked the car and waited for glory.

To sum it up, both Al, Evil and me had our misfortune so I guess in the end it evened out but I would like to say something about the handicap system we use in the Historic. Every handicap system has it`s downsides and this system is not right when we have basically equal drivers. So I think we have to think about this for the future as long as we do not have drivers like Hristo and Tim running the division. Any suggestions are welcome.

I also would like to thank all drivers that have competed in the season 22 Historic Trophy and welcome you all back for season 23.

Göran

Firstly I'd like to congratulate Goran on winning the championship  but I'd also like to commiserate with Clive for his untimely exit while he had the championship firmly in his grasp. My PC malfunction while leading at Nurby was a real sickener so I know the feeling only too well :(

Well, I have to thank my new “sports psychologist” Goran for providing the motivation for my win, as he had assured me before the race in chat that it was still mathematically possible for me to win the championship... it was only after I'd driven out of my skin for 34 laps that we both discovered this wasn't entirely correct! Think I'll be joining you on that junior Mathematics course Goran

Back to the race, I was very grateful to my teammate Tom for waving me through at the start & allowing me to pull out a small gap to Fulvio – a gap that was to prove critical in the end. This allowed me up into 2nd but I could see Clive up ahead was in no mood to hang about & my efforts to get a sniff of his slipstream were being thwarted by his impressive opening pace. It looked like it was going to be a long, hard chase so I was rather shocked to see Clive going wide onto the grass soon after & even more shocked when an errant wheel rolled across the track to indicate Evil was out of the race. Any thoughts of trying to ease off & preserve the fragile & already overheating Lotus engine were dispelled when Fulvio closed rapidly. I suddenly found myself desperately trying to stay far enough ahead to deny any tow, but Fulvio was absolutely relentless in his charge & that's how it remained for over 30 laps. I have to thank my new “fitness coach” Fulvio as I was drenched in sweat after that workout.  :sweatdrop:

It was a little disappointing to find out that the win wasn't enough to clinch the championship after all  but I have to say I've thoroughly enjoyed Historics this time out. Thanks to Goran for organising - great challenging tracks & hard but fair racing from all - certainly from what I've seen anyway :thumbup1: . It's been a very close battle & as Goran indicated there's no doubt that the handicap chassis have had a large influence on the outcome (it can be a disadvantage to be too consistent!) but ultimately the championship went to the driver with the most wins so WD Goran... Enjoy the glory & brace yourself for a renewed attack next season ;D Hopefully Tom & Fulvio & others will be able to attend more races next season too - in a way the handicap system showed its failings because only 3 of us ended up fighting for the title - with more winners it might work better.

edit: for bad maths (again)

LOL LOL LOL

I did tell you before the race that it was between Goran and Clive, you should trust your Uncle Badblood!

Good series all round. Top three have a ciggy paper between them and you all deserve the plaudits.

Clive has won the Memorial Trophy, Goran has won the Historics.

Al - you lead in Pros but all you need to do is punt Clive off at T1... only Clive can beat you but he can get a maximum of 281 so you need to finish in the top 8 as you will drop only 19 and 21 points would give it to you whatever Clive does. Nine drivers turned up last time... don't drop the ball...

Clive - you lead in Specs Light but but all you need to do is punt Art off at T1... if Art wins that race he pips you whatever you do. You need to keep an eye on him as he will get his full points but you will drop 32... Art needs a top 4 and if he gets it, you need to finish ahead of him. Simples  ;D

OK mister mathematician, you are right I can not win the Pro division because Al has a 7Th and I have only a 8Th. This is crystal clear right? The thing is that if I win the last race and Al does not score any points at all we end up on the same points, 279. We will have the same number of  P1, P2, P3, P4 and P6 but then Al has a P7 and I have only a P8 so he will win, OK?

If Evil win then Paul is also right, you need 8Th Al because if you end up on the same points you will have two wins and Evil only one.

But to be really sure Al you can not trust any of us, there is allways a chance we have got it wrong, alltough I do not think so this time . Anyway why take a chance Al you will be really sure if you win the Jops race too and then you will have really few tokens for next season if Evil`s idea on the mid season review come true  ;D.

Göran

PS. I did not do in on purpose Al, I really though you could win, do you think I would have kept running if I knew you could not?

I am impressed - better not to win and then lose the title on the eighth countback :(

Mind you the Pros and Historics are subject to moderation for Round 9 ;)

Had a nice race. I saw Al coming with greater pace down the straight at L1 and lifted a tad so he understood I would let him pass. I was surprised to see Fulvio coming so close behind and I just didn t dare claim the line at the bottom(wich I could cause Fulvio braked to leave it for me). I took a wide turn careful not to run off or drive into Fulvio who took the inside
Of cause this affected the speed although we never looked at flowers. Gøran braked up safely behind us but Jason didn t manage to brake for Gøran and he was rammed. Sorry for that.
I thought I would get plenty of chances to pass Fulvio again , but some minor miss from me and a very good driving Fulvio (and Al) made the gap increase and stabalized around 7 seconds.
Grats to my teammate Al for a deserved win, and big grats to gøran for bringing home the championship. :)
