Title: UKGPL Season 22 (2011-2012) Porsche - Monza (Full 10km) - May 11
Post by: BadBlood on May 10, 2012, 11:08:50 PM +0100
Season 22 - Porsche Super Cup
Race 10, Monza 10K

Final race of the season - Monza - not the Papyrus original but the Full 10K version which is the 67 track plus a heavily banked & slightly bumpy oval - to be taken flat out.  The oval was closed to F1 on account of it being too dangerous but GPL is kinder than real life although as we are using Pro settings, trying to take a shortcut by launching off the banking will probably not result in a happy outcome. The 10K track was used for the finale of the 1966 film Grand Prix which is well worth a look if you haven't seen it.

The originally chosen 1000K track cannot be imported as an official race - hence the track change. The final track will be announced tonight but there is a practice server for the 1000K version and if you can drive that, you can drive the 10K version.

*** NOTE WE WILL BE RACING THE Monza 10K VERSION (WITHOUT CHICANES) ***

Due to declining numbers, we will run this race on ONE SERVER only.

Please check the Season 22 pages for details (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=335&theme=6) regarding rules and the Porsche Super Cup (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=342&theme=6) pages in particular.

Hi Paul,
Are we using the Full 10K track as described in this post, or the 1000k track as described on the registration page? The difference being that the 1000k track has 2 chicanes  ;D  I wouldn't like to take them flat out  :o

Sorry Pedro, but i did not participate at last act of the farce called PSC.
At 24 hours from race there was no official communication on the forum, and when it appears here is a circuit different from that indicated in registration thread (Monza 10K and Monza 1000km are not the same thing).
Also, i still do not know reason of the two crash reports received for the race at Salzburgring (my request for clarification was not followed), and i have no intention of running sub judice, without having been able to figure out what i did wrong in that race.
This should (and could) be best championship of the season, but it seems that in UKGPL team competitions are considered an option, not a resource in which to invest.
My first season in this community end here, with few lights and many shadows; in future, now that i have understood how things work, i will make other choices.
It 's been a pleasure to run as your teammate, Pedro, and i think we can see on track in short time (in some fun races or in other communities).

At the last count Alex there were 28 incident reports concerning the Salzburgring race which is way higher than usual, in fact it's the most I can recall seeing. As a result it will take the moderator a long time to go through them all and produce the final report.

As a rule we try to publish the report before the following race but in this case it's just not going to be possible. I realise this is frustrating for you but please remember that moderators volunteer their spare time to help out at UKGPL. We all have jobs and families to take care of too.

Sorry to read that Alex!
But I can understand your position in some aspects....
For the next season the PSC will be reorganized!

In the registration thread it is announced "Monza 1000k (http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=6152)" and I have set my training server to it

Ross, please dont use arguments like this to reply at critics, it’s too easy: i know that there is passion behind moderator’s work, and i appreciate this like any other, but all of us play GPL because we have fun to do this, and all of us have a real life.
I think that best practice is to manage a minor number of championships, if this can ensure better quality.
Eventually, try to demand yourself because there was too many crash reports and because half of players have abandoned this league during season: in my intention, these are only observations and constructive critics, nothing else.

I agree with you to some extent Alex, it's best not to run a series if we can't do it properly. The Porsche series is arguably the hardest to run because it has been so popular we have had to run two grids until recently. That has made it the most work for the moderators of all the series. I was just pointing out that the Salzburgring event was an exceptional case due to the high volume of incident reports.

We appreciate your feedback as it can help us to improve the Porsche Super Cup next season. We still believe there are enough drivers to run it, albeit as one grid rather than two. Please let us know what changes you would make to improve it as we are always open to ideas.

Sorry for the confusion guys - I didn't look at the registration thread and the race was set up in the system as Monza 10K - this is because Monza 1000km is not listed so we can't import the race results.

We can run either but if we run Monza 1000km we would not be able to import the result until Dave has set the track up. I am surprised by that but we should have noticed this earlier.

The late post is down to me getting confused about dates - I only realised it was due last night and I did stay up late to post it... In truth I have a bit too much on my plate at the moment so some things are slipping like the replay website although the replays themselves have always been there on time. Anyway, unreserved apologies.

Hopefully we can get it right next season. We would really like the teams to be the central focus and I have certainly enjoyed supporting the Godzilla team (not that I have actually seen you or Mark on track or contributed much!)

Team Godzilla no longer exist, i have finally fired my brother (with great satisfaction !) and, by inertia, i have fired myself !
Next season will be another affair for us, i think in separate way.

Thanks for your participation in 7Porsche7 Team. (I am alone.... again).

Because  I see many opinions spread around here, I Will give you mine:
I like to drive (on-line) against and with any of you guys!
Thanks for hosting and organisation GPL stuff!

Although I take the driving serious it is a game and therefore I am not to serious when it comes to who's fault it is (as-long as it is not made on purpose).

And for tonight.............confusion or not.............Monza67, Monza10K, Monza1000K I Will be there :)

I think its time to reinstall GPL just to get rid of the dreadful GT mod and the simply awful tracks we keep trying to race on :(

More like the Monza 0.1 K for me. Got a great start from last and I was super careful - Fran blasted past me at Lesmo 1 and then collected the Armco and then me...  >:( Couldn't steer properly round Lesmo 2 and hit the armco - engine exploded...

The mods are going to be VERY cross with Fran... remind me - who is modding this race... ah yes...  ;D

I must say I did notice that Fran was a little, errrm, "excitable" into Les1.. ther was a brief moment I thought that he was rear-end me but he locked up and went into the armco instead!

I thought I was going to have trouble in this race.  GPL crashed 4 times tonight :'(.  3 times in pre-race praccy and once in qually   I lowered the graphics detail and thankfully it held together OK in the race.

I got a great draft in qually which put me much closer to the front than I'm used to.  So I had to make sure I got a good start.  I did, but the guy in front of me didn't and we got passed by a couple of cars before the Curva Grande.  I decided to stay calm and try to use the draft to keep up.  I was amazed to see so many cars crash out on the banking and after a couple of laps I found myself in second place.  There was no way I was going to catch Ron and he proceeded to drive off into the distance and I settled down to watch my mirrors and wait for the inevitable closing pack.

It took a while but Marc caught me after about 5 laps and he sailed past.  I tried to keep in his slipstream and having lost ground initially I clawed back the deficit and with about 10 laps to go I got back on his gearbox.  From that point on to the end of the race it was a game of cat and mouse.  I tested out a few places to have a go at a pass but I took my time and waited for the right moment.  I eventually got through at the Curva Grande with 2 laps to go and I tried to stay in front.  I could tell Mark was closing up and backing off so I knew he was waiting for the right moment.  He went for it on the inside at the first banking on the last lap but I managed to slip in behind him on the long back straight which gave me the momentum to go around the outside on the last banking.  Marc tucked in behind me bit he somehow managed to gain enough momentum to creep past me over the line and beat me by a couple of feet.

A very close finish and by far my best result in the PSC .

Thanks to Geoff and Paul for organizing this series.  It has been fun :)

I had a scare myself, with GPL crashing with 2 minutes of Qually left to go  :-\  It ran with a solid 36fps all race though  :)

My plan for the race was to just follow the guys in front & see how the race unfolded, knowing that to take the drivers section of this Team Championsip I only had to finish in front of Tristan..... Well, that plan went out the window when I managed to get an awesome start & found myself in front from 4th on the grid  :o It was looking as though  Roberto & I were going to be having a fun battle, but alas Roberto went off on the banking. After that it was a quiet Saturday morning ( yes 6:30 race start were I am  ;D ) drive to the flag.

Congatulations to Squadra Padova Corse team on winning the UKGPL Season 22 Porsche Super Cup Championship.

A Big Thank You to Geoff & Paul for organising & running the championship

Looking forward to seeing everyone on track next season

After a good start and avoided the crash fest on the banking, I was working together with Mercaldo to catch Phil when I clipped the rail out of Lesmo 2 and the engine got problem. After a lap engine muted :(
Too bad, would be fun to battle with Phil and Marco.
Cya next season

I'm glad that at least some had a better experience than I did. I could not understand why my quali times were so far away from those at the front of the grid ( approx 2.5 secs!!). I never claim to be the fastest guy on track, but I can usually get myself somewhere near the sharp end...but not here. I am guessing that I did not get a good draft that might have pulled me up another second or more.

So I started from around 10th on the grid and was slightly baulked by the car in front but chose to stay behind, rather than risk trying a pass and getting tangled with other drivers. My plan was to try and stay in touch with the front group and use the draft to keep up.

At Curve Grande all the cars in front dived for the inside and left me a clear run around the outside, picking up a few places as we approached Lesmo 1. I was quicker through Lesmo 1 and closed up on 2 cars entering Lesmo 2, well placed for a slipstream down to Parabolica. But the car 2 places in front seemed to snag the inside kerb and half spun. I think it was Natan in front of me, who jinked out to avoid that and as I tried to follow, the spinning car appeared to lurch my way and I made contact with somone or something spinning me to the inside.
The car came to rest facing in the right direction so I selected 1st gear and set off having lost a few places. Approaching Parabolica I was still close enough to expect to be able to get some slipstream for the rest of the lap around the bankings.
Once again a car in front was having directional control issues, so I was a little careful on entry and I got tagged from behind and knocked sideways. I was in mid curse, when the screen froze  :cursing: with my car broadside across the middle of the track!!!! I frantically punched the Esc key but it took a good few seconds before I could quit...I hope no one else was compromised by my stricken car.

So I did not even make a single lap :-\  Grats to Ron on a his win and to the podium. A great series again and very popular.

Lucky to have a fast and clean start without crashes!
Very much fun battling with Maxmine.
Trying to worktogether and thinking about a strategy to become 4e instead of 5e was very enjoyable.
You deserved to win it Maxime!

Grats to "Squadra Padova Corse team" for winning the Porsche Cup!
Thanks all for racing,

Sadly a short race for me...

A great quali with 3rd position and PB

Starting with a long first gear, Ron surprised me with his blitz start!
Following in 5th position, knowing my time will come with a good tow, I managed to make my move into the second banking.
It was a great moment when Tom_G and I were passing Piero on both sides...
Me being in his blind spot Tom changed the lane to keep in tow...
I tried to avoid a contact but my right front tyre was caught by the gras bank and so I flew high and hit him.
Unlucky Piero was caught too and the race ended before the first lap was finished for the three of us  :-[

Congratulations to Ron for winning the Championship, really strong rider.

Thanks and congratulations to all organizers and participants of a beautiful season!

The Padua Racing Team has begun to play GPL only after the release of MOD GT 67, Marco and Roberto and I not raced since 2001, while we ran the Championship ItalianioGPL,
we have resumed the old wheels, after discovering the existence of Championship UKGPL for only Porsche cars are easy and fun to drive. We decided to sign up and try the challenge without too much effort, with the simple goal to entertain us, we have all 3 plus 40 years.
After a few races it became clear that our team was unbalanced compared to others, Robert was very fast, Marco a mastiff who never gives up!
I think the moral winners are all the teams that participated, I will not seem hypocritical to speak on behalf of the entire team, for us the Drivers Championship was between me and Roberto rivalry and only ever as a team, to see SPA, race me determining the end of the championship victory :D, who want to win at all costs I almost put him out and end up breaking the engine ..
The real winner is Ron Clegg, to which virtually shake your hand, for the skill and passion, I at 10 am I could not run.
Finally a compliment to my brother Mark and Phil for the legendary duel that did .. creepy!

Yesterday I went wrong was to be taken into full 270 kmh really gave me the impression of being virtually dead .. a bad accident: ((
sin be the first successful giro.Spero the next season all the pilot more or less strong unless we put the heat at least the first few laps.

PS. see who the next Championship the Squadra Padova Corse not (I imagine) to form I am now available to anyone interested in the team to like me, I promise that I will avoid breakage of the engine and fix the PC that I have created several problems :)

THANKS TO ALL!

I haven't drived in Monza10k from years, I don't like this track, with or without chicane, no lap done with GT here, no time to check graphics and sounds, nor to make a dedicated setup, I only can hope to have no trouble. In pratice I use same Monza 1000k setup, and results was... funny! Seems me more to be ...in aquarium than in track, anyway, I achieve a very (traily) good lap. I haven't a correct gearing to do a good start, I know, so I try only not to loose too much, there's a lot of time to recover. At start Ron is faster than Piero and me so at Curva Grande entrance Ron is first, I second and third Piero. I push a little from Lesmo to Parabolica where enter a little long, so flatten my 910 to recover Ron. At second lap, entering into Curva Sud, gpl freeze, leaving me with a beautiful screenshot of Curva Sud with Ron as a theme, and a continuous farping from speakers, as to say "I'm crashing to desktop, not you! Prrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!", end of game.

Too bad, would have been very fun to battle until the end.
My apologies if this incident has caused problems for those followed me, I can't do anything.

Congratulations to Ron for winning the drivers championship and for his behavior on the track during the season, always at a great level.

Compliments also to all my team mates, Piero and Marco, very well done boys, nice job.

I know that we haven't a team profile as required but, anyway, I'm satisfied about our results and behaviors into race.

Sincere and wholeheartedly thanks to UKGPL and all the people involved in, without whom nothing like this could happen.

My sincere thanks to all drivers, that made the season compelling and spectacular.

The blatant ignoring of the team rules was primarily responsible for ruining the PSC this season. But I will resrve judgement until the new format is revealed.

Yes, I completely agree with you m8.
It seems I've lost a great race this time. It seemed a strange championship to me when I met PSC the 1st time but  it was immediately clear it was fun and competitive because of the participants and I mention only a few of them (Hristo, Tom_G, Tristan, EvlClive, JHally...). The Porsche is nice to drive (with the only exception of the Brake Bug) and not so difficult to set up, so races are based on personal drive skill instead of car's type performances and this is what I like about this champ. But like everything growing, now we're aware about things that were good and that were lesser so the managers can make some adjustments to make this champ better for all of us.
Congrats to Ron and the podium and...I wish Team Shadows will compete with you the next 23rd season.

Nice for having raced with you all,
My best regards,
Sergio

P.S.: Team Shadows opens subscriptions for 23rd UKGPL's season (all series). If you want to join us, just send me a mail or a PM, our site manager Jason Blito will add you in our roster. Thanks.
