The Privateers open up at Silverstone, host to the first ever World Championship Grand Prix back in 1950. Last season's winner has gone to Works, so a close battle between David Rainier and Phil Thornton is expected. Will Hendy Nichols ditch the BRM and make it a three way fight? Tune in on Sunday evening to find out.

Not looked at the replay yet,  but I doubt that will really show things any different.

Start was not too bad, apart from the pile-up.  Luckily the spare car was ready to go!

Lonely running for most of the race,  with some excitement in the run up to the 2nd crash...
Shame,  that was otherwise looking like some clean fun.   In insurance-policy terms,  I should admit nothing of course.    But (without waving the apology magic-wand to make the entire situation disappear)  apologies to PT - just saw that happening too late.  Honestly,  good to see you were able to continue.  Admittedly *that* part makes me feel a little better.

Otherwise, good that s23 is finally here!   Even with the other events in the break,  it has seemed a long time coming!

Cheers,
Dave.

Great to see an almost full grid to start the season. The replay is now available.

Incident reports should be submitted by 24th June.

I thought this would be an eventful race, there were cars all over the place in praccy.  Don't know what happened at the start but I managed to avoid the carnage by stamping on the brakes and coming to a complete stop on the start line.

Race went quite well but I clipped Paul Bird on the exit of Chapel and spun him round.  Sorry about that Diki.

Had an enjoyable battle with Dave Curtis until we got tangled up at Club.  Pity I was looking forward to a decent nip and tuck tussle.

A typically disastrous start to the season. Starting at the back, I avoided the initial bottleneck and accelerated along the clear right hand side of the track. Only it wasn't clear - it just appeared to be so  because of GPL's inability to diplay more than a handful of cars online. The result was that DC appeared in front of me a fraction of a second before I crashed into him :o. Sorry, Dave. I then inexplicably pressed ESC instead of SR so it was game over. Good job Bernie was around to grab a sackful of points for the Soggies

Looks like I had full share of soggies luck then Mike  :)

Qually went well for a change started P4 so I was lucky to to miss the carnage , I was determined to go easy for a few laps ( lost 2 engines in qually ) until everything was nicely warmed up.

when the race settled down I was still P4 ( I think) with Hendy giving chase and keeping me on my toes , then Du fossa went off giving me another place . things went steady  until around Lap 14 when I saw a waved yellow, got distracted "rubber necking" , and ran wide at the exit of Abbey corner to find a red fezzer parked on the same bit of grass  I was aiming for  :o
Fortunately Axel ( for it was he ) did the polite thing and decided to move over and let me through to take P2 , next followed another close call at woodcote with a suicidal Waza flying across my bows (these Waza's will stop at nothing to try and grab points ) After that it was just a case of staying on the tarmac and following Dave's distant Lotus home .

Grats to David , commiserations to Axel and well done to all finishers and all those who tried but failed for whatever reason  :)

Looks like this could be a champagne season for the privs with a grid full of new and old faces so lets all raise glasses  to S23  ;D

Mont juich next  :o

A reasonably good season opener. Pleased to have qualified nearer the front than the back & if I hadn’t blown an engine near the end it could have finished P4 rather than P5.
Well done to David R for taking the chequered flag & ensuring a good points haul for Black Night Racing.
Does anyone have any particular hints or tips with cars that spin just in front of you. In a road car if you see an obstacle in front then reaction kicks in & you brake. My normal approach in GPL is to ease of the gas, decide where the car is headed & aim for a gap. If you are mid-turn then hitting the brakes too hard will send you flying. I had two instances at Silverstone where I clipped the car ahead – maybe I’m doing the wrong thing.

Oh dear oh dear, I may have disgraced myself here...
Qually went well and I think being top whale in 8th place with a 1:30.5 was decent enough.
I got a really good start and was up to  5th in a flash but over the first couple of laps Bernies cautiousness was holding me up and somehow that really rattled me, and I clipped the Kerb at Abbey and had a violent crash in the barns near the bridge.  I had to wait an age for a Shift+r and that me was me basically last. Did my stop and go but never really got into the groove again after that. I started to go slower and slower whilst making more and more mistakes. Eventually I drifted off the track in a moments inattention and hit the bridge again, this time destroying my race as well as the car. My last couple of laps were 6s slower than I had done in Qual and 4s slower than I was doing on full tanks.
Pain :(

I was the only Lotus driver so I could not do anything than win in Silverstone !
Qualif was good and my time gave me the pole position.

I was cautious for the start of the race and Axel took a great start.
Then Axel was pushing very hard with his Ferrari, and I waited the 10th lap to have an oppurtunity to overtake him.
Unfortunately, he made a mistake 2 turns after. I hope I was not responsible of it !
After the 10th laps, I managed the gap with the 2nd and was very happy to win here !

Now I have no more tokens, so the next race will be very difficult for me !

Grats David to the victory!
Grats Bernie and Hendy!

No it wasn't your fault at all...
I am a real novice in these 67s so I used all my concentration to keep it on track, when I had to pass the backmarkers that was too much...
I made some mistakes and when I wanted to pass Hendy I took the inside of Woodcote and lost my right front wheel at the pitwall....
These brutes are not as easy to handle as a 65 ;D

You've got P4 Billy. I've got an appointment with the naughty step.

Race 1, lap 1, turn1, looking pretty good then I hit the clutch instead of the brake and run into the back of g. giovani. As usual in GPL the victim came off worse. While I was able to continue unscathed he was upside down. I can only apologise for my stupidity.

I haven't checked the rules but I believe it goes something like this.
Read end shunt - 2 places lost + 1 for lap 1
fester - loss of 3 places
Or is it more?

Unaware of the startline fracas I was surprised to find myself no lower than 12th and began an unsteady climb to an eventual 4th almost entirely due to the misfortunes of others. I don't know what Tim's tyres were made of but locked brakes produced disconcerting puffs of green smoke. It wasn't long before his engine went bang ( with black smoke ;D ). I swapped places with Phil a few times ( I span, he span, I span, he span ) until I stopped making so many mistakes. About 10 laps from the end Billy got involved in somebody else's accident which brought him within sight of me. I was gradually catching him but running out of laps when his engine exploded.

My race was a catalogue of errors but I enjoyed it. There was enough going on to keep it interesting and only in the last two laps did I ever feel like I was on track alone. I think I'll benefit more from consistency than speed in this series. In this race I had neither >:(

I think the ruling is you wont get docked unless someone puts in an incedent report , then the mods will need to decide yea or nay for a penalty  ::)

Yes quite true but in the interests of fair play I always put in an incident report for any shunt I am involved in whether I was the victim or the perpetrator.  IMO it should be up to the moderator to decide who was right and who was wrong.  After all if we don't report the incidents how are we to learn anything?

To put it another way, reporting the incidents simply alleviates the moderator of the laborious task of replaying the entire race from every driver's perspective looking for incidents (something I have done plenty of in the past).

In this race I was involved in 2 incidents, one which was my fault and the other which I would claim was not my fault.  To report one and not the other wouldn't appeal to my sense of fair play.

A well known track + the quickest car = no way to stay on the track.
I spent the most of the qualify time to set a lap with the loty but it wasn't really possible!!
Finally I decided to take the brabby and I felt more comfortable...

I had a good race pace and I could have finished in a very good postion but I got distracted in a silly way and I lost the car at turn one with few laps to the checquered flag.
I got so angry with myself and I quit the race.
Well done to the winner, the podium and everybody raced.
Bye

Looking at the results table I see that Tim retired because of a  'Header'. Did somebody head butt him? I think I might just add that to my armoury of excuses.

Should I report incidents in the red zone? Even when it's obviously my fault?

I agree with Phil. If I'd done something so stupid at any other point in the race I would have reported to the mod and like Max Mosley demanded to be punished.

it wasn't clear - it just appeared to be so  because of GPL's inability to diplay more than a handful of cars online.

If you mean the cars weren't being rendered, try setting the detail bias to a lower setting when racing with a full grid. This will lower the poly count to avoid going over the max. Has worked for me I usually turn it down to about 2/3rds.

If you mean that pribluda wasn't showing their distances I think there is an online patch that fixes it.

I was referring to the cars being rendered rather than Pribluda. I currently have detail set at about 90% but I'll follow your advice and turn it down further. Perhaps this will also help with Pribluda which is often scrambled and illegible when online though fine offline.

Hi Mike , dunno if it helps but my Prib often goes haywire online , solved by hitting the F4 F5 F6 buttons (whichever you have configured )   re sets the display to normal

No need to bother but if you believe the Moderator needs any background info or you want to attach your own replay it is sometimes worthwhile.
