Title: UKGPL Season 23 (2012) Professionals Trophy (65) - Bremgarten - Jun 26
Post by: Cookie on June 21, 2012, 11:29:17 AM +0100
WELCOME to the UKGPL Season 23 - Pro Trophy

The first race of the season is at the challenging Bremgarten 1954 track.
This is a real Road Course in Bern, Switzerland.
In 1954 the Swiss government banned all Car and Motorcycle racing after the big incident in Le Mans with Mercedes.

Pro drivers have a free car choice but the top scorers of last season are asked to not take the same car again!
You have to keep your chosen car for the rest of the season,
you will only be allowed to swap chassis in exceptional circumstances and only with the approval of the moderator.
Driver lists can be found on the Pro Trophy (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=362&theme=6) championship standings page.

There will be full moderation of lap one Red Zone and reported incidents for the rest of the race.
Please submit incident reports within a week after the race so that the moderators report may be out before the next race.
Full time drivers have priority access to the server until 21.00 UK time.
Please restrict your chat to a minimum!

OK having always run 65's in either Lotus or BRM, I could do with a change. I did consider the Ferrari but none of my teammates would talk to me ;) so I'll try the Brabham (the green one, not the blue one!)

What are the other top scorers taking?

As I finished 4th last season I suspect that I will not be allowed to drive the glorious WAZAmobile  :-\  So it might be a Cooper or the BT7 or at a push the BT11?

I think it should just be top 3 in champ. Otherwise who in their right mind would choose to drive the Waza?  :whistling:

LOL

My idea was to not have the Lotus again in the hands of the last years top duo...

To keep things even, I'll try the BT11 even though it is green!! unless anyone has any objections? As long as we get some good racing I'll drive anything  ;D

Why not the Honda Clive? No objections from me if you want the waza & I think it would make for a more varied grid as I think we already have a few BT11's.

I may go Ferrari this season - have barely driven the thing to date if I'm honest and it's a different colour to last seasons car...  ;)
That or I could take a Waza if Cookie has objections to the Fez :)

I will take the BRM, as it has given me the best times in Bremgarten so far, but I am still missing 3 sec...

I think the same mechanic assembled my Honda Engine!! :-\ 4 of the pistons fell out!!!

The start of the race went well for me and I was quite comfortable following Tristan in the early laps as we edged away from the chasing pack.
Tristan had a couple of brushes with the scenery and I had one VERY scary moment at the esses in the forest when my frame rate suddenly dropped to about 20fps!! just as I was turning in. Fortunately I bounced off the trees to the right and just clipped the barrier on the left without damage...,I thought that was going to be the end of my race!!!

The gearing on the Honda was good and I could keep pace with the Fezza in front and even close up on some sections, but decided to leave a "safety gap" rather than sit right on his exhaust pipes, because around Bremgarten it is easy to become part of someone else's accident with no run off areas.
There were plenty of laps left to consider attacking Tristan, so I settled in for a steady drive through the middle section of the race and then...............................it all went very quiet as we entered the forest :-\ :'(

I knew that I had pushed the revs in 1st of the grid slightly more than I should have and thought I had got away with it. But maybe that had spiked the engine and it just expired even though the oil temp was low and I was upshifting at 12k, well within usual safety limits for the Waza.

Great racing at that pace with Tris , just a shame the Honda did not last through the race so that we could have diced out the final laps.

Grats to all those who survived and got to the podium.

Could just have been one of GPL's random failures Clive - I regularily allowed the Waza up to 13,000 or more in first and 2nd off the line and don't think I ever suffered a blown engine that could be attributed to it...

Pleased with the final podium spot, especially considering my hastily-cobbled together setup for the BT11. For the second race running I spent most of my time tailing that pesky Goran - but that really was my own fault after I threw away a reasonably comfortable 2nd place with a big spin in the woods. While me & Goran seemed to be pretty closely matched on laptimes, Tristan out front was in a class of his own - pulling out a 50 second lead over us in 22 laps :o Shame Clive's engine let go. Congrats on a dominant win Tris & also to Goran for 2nd.

Just a random thought, kinda related to the 65 Waza and 2013 F1 engines.........

If the new regs for F1 are for V6 engines ( next year I think?) I wonder if anyone will place their engines transversly like Honda did in 65???  :o

All that torque reaction from the engine would certainly aid rear traction and might mean less wing?...like I said, just a sneaky Waza thought :shifty:

Good thinking but would it not cause further problems with gearbox and exhaust positioning ?

Ferrari had to abandon the flat 12 because of aero issues perhaps transverse v6 would be the same problems  ::)

Yoo ! :)
thx mates for the race .... Evil was a realy good follower ... but Mama San decide other way ....( I think you can go up to 12000 rpm easely but you must be very carrefull to dont do any  " picks " of rpm when you change of speed ....for exemple if you keep too mutch trottle when you change of speed ! )....too bad luck Evil :/
....the rest of the race was lonely , but I have to fight to keep my concentretion up and to keep a good rythme ....   'cause this ( very good for 65 ) track is quite dangerous  ....
....see U in France  ;D  ....it's summer time ..... 8)

Congrats Tristan, Goran, and Al

Amazing fast lap Tristan   :thumbup1:

Apologies to Axel for our coming together. I saw you in difficulties and when I went around I must have looked in the mirrors for too long and missed the following turn. As I was trying to get off the wall you slid in to me and that was it for our race.   :(

My first race at Bremgarten was less than I had hoped. After having struggled to get the graphics the way I wanted, just had to have the same as the screenshots on Alt track database  ::), I also struggled to get up to speed. Continually removing suspension parts in training didn't help. When I saw the times being set in practice I knew the back of the grid was where I needed to be. The early laps took out a few runners and I found myself behind a recovering Tim. I was hoping to try and keep pace but a spin at the last turn put an end to that. A couple of laps following Axel was fun but ended badly for both of us.

Bad luck on the engine Evil. Mighty quick in the WAZA

Hope to see you all at Rouen

Peace

RJ

Yes RJ I am sorry too, as it ended our race, I was too surprised by your sudden slowing down...

The first PRO race was a little scary with this big gap to Tris and Clive in the lap times.
My setup was ok, but this track does not allow the slightest mistake, so I aimed to do a save race to finish.
My main problem is ATM to keep the concentration over a full race distance.
I have to do some more laps around the Hockenheimring with my bicycle!

Grats to the survivers = podium!

CU at Rouen

Bravo Tristan ! Fantastic win, you let Göran behind at 56 seconds !! And I know Göran is really not a slow guy !
Thanks for the revenge against Sweden  ;D  (although Ibrahimovich goal was superb).
