Post by: Ross Neilson on July 25, 2012, 08:06:24 PM +0100
After the recent release of a new version of the Riverside circuit, this race will serve as a test with a view to using it for round six of the Works and Privateers Trophies. I hope those of you not off on your summer holidays will join us for this and provide the track with a good test.

Kicked out once in qually, then screen freeze whilst following Martin at lap 2 or 3, so this one is no good for me. Cheers guys, hope you had fun.

some problem in pre race practise with frame stutter at 1 or 2 places , otherwise fine .

The cure was to reduce the detail level  8)

Silly trick number 167 was to have a massive spin when trying out the practise server , this resulted in me driving the wrong way and getting a DQ

Didn't realise untill I joined the race server I that the DQ would still be active   :-[

tried windows cookie delete etc etc but was still getting a DQ so in desperation I ditched my weapon of choice ( the mighty Brabham)  and joined in the inferior Lotus.

spent what few remaining minutes of practise cobbling a set up for said Lotus only to find the gearing was way to short for the loooong straight and she was bottoming out in places .

So after a few crashes and dashes I decided to take the early bath , Billy was way up the road and no one coming up behind to play with except the leaders who were now begining to lap me .

Verdict so far

Track fine ( though its not my favourite )
Connection fine
No glitches or hang ups  :)

Thx guys for the fun race . Grats to podium guys!  Damn its hard to keep focus , been along time since i raced gpl . Great to be back though , sorry whoever i bumped into at the uphill hard brake turn ..  :( .  Im also struggling from stutters ingame. Its realy hard to keep timings up when the framerates drop. the last 10 laps was very chunky. Ive been trying diff things to get rid of it . Tried gpl powermonger etc .. since i have a i7 processor with speed stepping .Its realy annoying when it begins. Any good tips on this ? Heard it can be soundcard issues also. Ive installed soundblaster audigy 2 card , it should be good with gpl i think.

As seems to be the way recently,  downloaded the track this morning & had a few blasts during the course of the afternoon.
In the Zandy vs. Mexico setup competition, Mexico just won  (well - that has polos too!).

Was disconnected once during qually/practice.  Apart from that, no connectivity/frame-rate issues.

Thanks for the run.  Some little scraps out there made it fun;  I think it all seemed clean-enough!

Cheers,
Dave.

As for the stuttering some people experienced, I did have some really minor in those quick esses of sector 1. Very little, but annoying as you need to be precise there, or you go off. Although my machine is relatively up to date, I often have this happening, all depending on the track of course. My details are as low as possible in order to avoid at least the square tyres  ;D ;D, so I usually fiddle with the mirrors and the amount of objects on the track. Last, but by far most effective resort, is downgrading to 640/480 my resolution, crap to watch and occasionally not the best to drive on a laptop screen, but it does the trick pretty much everywhere.

The connection problems must have been at my end then, I have to say I had an odd warning before I joined, about a windows firewall not liking Igor, suppose that could be the reason, cant remember having that one popping up before. Track is good fun though, and good for racing.

I had no problems of any sort, but of cause I had no cars around me for most of the race and quali.

No issues with my connection or frame rates. Quite happy to use this track for the 67 Championship.
First half of the race was fine then my concentration slipped with a few unscheduled visits to the scenery. Really needed a little longer to learn the track.

I had only once a big freeze in a pre race training session in T1.
After this I added the "river71_UPDATE 1.1" and the 32 bit sky without any further issues.

The track is great fun as I like these high speed bends ;D

In the race I was too tired and decided to leave after the first crash...

I arrived at Riverside with two definite advantages - a fast car, and a lot of prior experience gained, as the desert was being redeveloped.  This meant after only 2 laps, the race had already turned to my advantage.:shifty: But alas, a small hiccup lay in my path . . .

Fastest on lap 2, my Eagle suddenly gained a careless clip, round the inner wall at turn 1.  This caused two things to happen: 1/ We left the track to admire the scenery. 2/ My steering wheel did the same thing, at the same time! The sliding drawer it was attached to, decided to jump off it's track, as I slid off mine. "Grumble!"

My Eagle somehow managed to leave the track on both sides, before Artiglietti rolled up in 3rd, to survey the damage.  The drawer mirrored this option.  He wisely tucked in behind, while I recovered, and tried to tuck in my drawers . . . umm, my drawer while continuing to ess, though the esses. >:(

Our two cars took a rather inventive guess, at the following ess, as I attempted to negotiate 4 sliding wheels, and 2 sliding rollers, without rolling, or bailing out - and the car behind followed, to watch all of this! . . . "Grumble!"

Somehow, I managed to hook up my sliders, and my slides, regain all 3 tracks, and pinned down the following hairpin without stopping, or loosing position.  My thanks to Artiglietti for showing caution, and not laughing too much!  Sorry we were not able to do, more serious battle.  After that It became a lonely, but a glorious run. :D

Yes Toni ATM we use mostly 36 fps.

When the 60Fps is used it will be announced!
In the coming break FunRaces in August there will be some 60fps races with the 69X mod ;)

Wednesdays, in BREASTS (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?board=87.0), we allways do a 60fps race!

Hi there,

a great Race it was! Only in the beginning at the Esses I had some frameratedrops. May I have to get me a stronger PC in a while...
Some great fights I had with Dave I think, John was to fast for me.
All in all i´m satisfied.  :)

So long
Andreas

Thanks for all the feedback guys, I think it's safe enough to switch the Works and Privateers calendars over to use this instead of the old Riverside.

I will update the schedule in due course.

The old Riverside is prone to freeze anyway, so I'll race anything instead of it. Even with the supposed fix it got, we've still had freezes when racing at it.
