Title: UKGPL Season 23 (2012) Formula 2 Trophy - Le Mans (Bugatti) - Oct 5
Post by: Billy Nobrakes on October 01, 2012, 10:12:37 PM +0100
THIS POST IS FOR THE LIGHT & HEAVY RACES
The F2 series moves to France for Round 7 and the Le Mans Bugatti circuit, a permanent track used as part of the Le Mans 24 hour race. Fortunately we only have to do 24 laps. It was also the track actually used for the French F1 Grand Prix during the 1967 season.

There was a debate following Silverstone about chassis handicaps. After consideration we will be keeping the handicap system published at the beginning of the season, although the Hockenheim race will be moved from Round 10 to Round 8, so as not to seriously disadvantage the series leader in the last race.

The handicaps for each Division will, therefore be:
LIGHTS Hristo – Ferrari or Brabham BT14. Evil Clive & Goran -  Ferrari, Brabham BT14 or Cooper.
HEAVY Rainier – Ferrari or Brabham BT14. Rog UK & Phil Thornton -  Ferrari, Brabham BT14 or Cooper.

The series will be run on two separate grids; The Lights (on T7) & the Heavys (on UKGPL 3). Please ensure you join the correct race. The Driver list is shown below & the Championship Table can be found here F2 European Tour (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=366&theme=6)
Unlimited resets are allowed but every Shift R must be followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane. If you Reset on the last lap a 30 second time penalty will be awarded.
Incidents should be reported in the usual way.

In line with other divisions the races will be subject to full moderation  in the red zone which will be to the entry the Garage Vert corner. The Moderator may chose to investigate any other incident, in addition to reported incidents & red zone incidents.

Please note that for Season 23 UKGPL has introduced a system of penalties within each series  for drivers accumulating yellow cards – see here
Penalty Points (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=10879.0). Drivers incurring these penalties will receive a PM advising when a penalty has been applied & what race it should served.

Thanks Fulvio.
Had a few test laps & this seems like it should be fun. Quite easy to learn but beware the sand trap in T1 & the polos on all the tight bends. Not too many passing places - but not something I have to worry about that often.

I have to agree!   After downloading this week & having a couple of runs;  it does indeed seem somewhat narrow.
Those pesky tank-traps littered round the corners don't help much - unless you happen to be the competition...

It's relatively easy to learn, but very hard to master. It requires that you bring the car right next to those sticky sand pits and almost brush the tires in some corners, similar to Mexico.

I will miss this race as I am still resting at the Hiki Waza training camp in darkest South West UK. Maybe SHE has a cunning plan to save me from the Ferrari and BT14??

I know you have all missed me  ::) ( maybe not?) but I will be returning to a grid near you soon.  ;)

Maybe the healthy sea air down here makes me a just a little less "evil" and a little more "live". Funny how a change of scenery can turn you around?  ::) :shifty:

Have fun tonight guys  ;D ;D

Yes that was me well & truly killed :death: No problem Tom - I think you were knocked into my path anyway so just a racing incident as far as I'm concerned. Only a small contact but I exploded into flames & flew about 300 feet in the air :o A shame to be relegated to the back as I was going OK before that but after my stop & go I had great fun racing hard with Nicky & Cookie for what turned out to be the last podium spot. Congrats to H for the win.

I can't really believe I won in the Fezza, lol. Drove like hell to compensate for the car's lack of speed, but I was obviously fortunate as well.

Something I want to point out - I noticed that fastest laps from GT and F2 races haven't been recorded into the forum database for the past couple of races, including this one as well. Perhaps some fix is necessary?

It has actually Hristo. Tom got Pole and FL and that is in his racing record. Why do you think there is a problem?

I see it now, I guess I must have been looking at the Heavies results. But still, if you check Imola Porsche race for example, no records taken from the results, even though there weren't any previous records set.

Yes, I was expecting that. Odd though, because I couldn't find those records in the track's records list earlier. All is fine then.  ;D

Bernie,
Assume you know which incident the report refers to?
If so just file your own report & it will get picked up in the mystical world of moderation ... Bill

Well, I for one am completely surprised about that!

There was no mastering involved;  but at least I managed to remember which way the next corner was going.
I download/had a couple of runs early last week & I think that BREASTS action really helped somewhat.

I honestly don't know what happened in qually;  but managed to beat previous PB of a few days by knocking off over 1 second.
It all seemed rather close by end of the session;  that front-row start was totally unexpected.

The start also seemed rather close - 3 abreast! Online!  The entire grid fitted into 3 rows,  so we were kind of packed in like sardines.

I think I was lucky to have only had a couple of minor run-offs & gained a lot by bigger misfortune of others.  Cheers lads ;)

Another lap or two & Geoff would have been past & off down the road.  He was absolutely reeling me towards the end.  I think he had a few minor moments that also helped.

Unbelievable & despite what it could have been;  it did end up being fun!   & to think this was the track dropped for Rouen?!

Cheers gents,
Dave.

Yep, let me add my congratulations Dave on your maiden victory with UKGPL. I may have been quicker over all....but sadly a bit less reliable. After tracking you down from about 8 secs behind, closing to just over a second, I had a brain fade into the first hairpin and and roadtested the sticky dirt! I'd already been in there once after a little unpleasantness with Miniblood earlier on....Apologies again for that Joe.  :(
After that little excursion I sort of settled for 2nd as you'd scooted on up the road again....and laps were quickly disappearing. Then you had a little moment and lost a chunk of time....seeing you up ahead, closer, made me lift the tempo again and push. Nearly got there, had to put in the fastest lap on the final lap of the race. However it would have been unfair to snatch the race from you after the pigs ear I'd made of it earlier. You earned it....well done.
Also a special note of congratulations for Dave Rainiers sterling drive in the Red Slug....and 3rd place. Amazing.
Geoff.

What a silly rule , you get rear ended , have to do a s/r through someone elses fault then make a stop go to atone for your sins while the perpatrator can get away scot free
