First, I am very proud to be part of the super elite in mod66 championship :)

Then if I want to be serious, I can look to the championship standings after removing the 2 worst results :

EvilClive   190   -23   167
Al Heller   189   -23   166
Rainier   182   -53   129
Hristo    150   -0   150
Goran   130   -0   130
Ronnie   108   -0   108
Phil   93   -0   93

It's clear ! Who can imagine during only one second, that I am quicker than Hristo or Göran ?
I don't want the rule to be changed for season 23 but maybe we can think of it for next seasons !?

Which rule do you mean, Dave? The 2 worst results drop rule? I like it very much and I think it makes it more fair for everyone.

Yes something like that.
For example, 1 worst result dropped until mid-season and then 2.

If I'm not mistaken I don't think David is querying the best 8 out of 10 scores to count rule.  I'm sure most people agree that it makes it fairer because not everyone can manage 100% attendance, real life gets in the way of our GPL race nights sometimes.

I think what David is querying is the way the handicapping is calculated.  I highlighted it when we were discussing the F2s and the last round being at Hockenheim (see here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=11076.msg199972#msg199972)).  Because David has scored more points overall he has to take a slower car but if the dropped scores is taken into account when determining who has to take a slower car then clearly he should have a faster car.

Possibly something to consider if we run a division with this type of handicapping in season 24.

On the subject of less than 100% attendance, today I brought my good lady wife home from hospital after a hip replacement op.

Its more than likely I will miss a few races over the next week or two as being just the two of us at home I will be spending time nursing the patient until she can get around unaided .

There are some duties that come before GPL Bernie. The mods have had a meeting and I think we can sanction your absence for this one.

Give your good lady all our best wishes for a quick recovery.

From the Historic Trophy Registration,

"For the two last races one and then two worst results are dropped before counting handicap points."

I am not sure that it would be a good thing to beginn dropping results in mid season because no one knows what will happen. I can see the problem and that you think you should be allowed a quicker car because you believe that you are slower but this handicap system does not handicap drivers but positions in the championsip. Besides, I can assure you that neither Hristo or me have put in DNS (did not score) results on purpose.

If you like to be cunning all you have to do to get out of the group I car for the next race is to "only" be 6Th in this race if we assume, that is, that Hristo wins  ;D

I think the main issue with this system is in the F2 championship, not here in the 66s. F2 with those 2 much much slower cars for the top drivers is really disturbing and IMO they should be removed completely for next season, or the handicap system be adjusted somehow. 66s don't have that much of a difference in terms of speed between the cars though.

Don't worry Dave - the handicap chassis won't be so much of a disadvantage at this track.

I've been in the handicap chassis for 13 out the last 15 races... :helpsmilie: (Just keeping the seat warm for Hristo)

Tried my luck just one time too many :o.  Made a mistake and David was through.  Tried to hang on to him but slid wide and hit a tree.  Lost 2 wheels not unexpected LOL

Keep going David you deserve to finish.  That's all that matters here LOL

I feel very comfortable with the Lotus Climax on this track.
But when you (Phil) give up, I lost my concentration and hit a tree or something else and lost 1 wheel.
As it happened on the last sector of lap 5, I tried to finish the lap to be classified ...but it was impossible without the left rear wheel :(

Unlucky David.  Concentration is everything on this track, it doesn't take prisoners!

A moments real world distraction and the race was over even before the end of  lap 1! Grats to the podium of Al, Andreas and Martin. Despite the early bath this is a great track and I hope it is used again.

I have raced this track in the past and should have remembered the "phantom tree" on the cobbled section  after the "carousel" bend :-\. Until that point I was reasonably confident of a good finish, maybe even a podium?

I was quickly reminded of it on Lap 1 when it ripped a wheel off my Eagle!!!!! "ah yes! that is the dangerous tree I should have kept well clear of ??!!" ::)

I wonder if anyone else got caught by that tree, it seems that it is almost a warp like problem as the car has all 4 wheels on the track yet the tree manages to make very firm contact with the car.

Grats to those who finished and to the podium.

Previous attempts at this track, have twice before rewarded me with a single successful lap.  The first time, I was attacked by a mischievous tree, and in the second, a wheel unexpectedly fell off!  So, a nice handling chassis, with a forgiving setup, seemed the way to go. 8)

With a couple of places made up at the start, I sat back to enjoy the scenery, and remained content to follow Andreas around.  Third place was gained after the misfortune of those ahead of us, with my turn coming, when close to a finish this time - attacked by another of those invisible trees, at the edge of the track. :( I'd grumble, but can't complain at being podiumized.

It's a wonderfull track for displaying driving skills, and there's never a dull moment, even when driving solo.  Sympathies go to Hristo, who was dominant until his disconnect.  And looks like Evil befell some invisible wood, early on - same branch perhaps?  It's cruel nature, makes this place a great test of man, machine, and welding equipment!  :D

Indeed Clive - some of those trees do have rather long invisible roots as I also found out during a 65 race a few seasons back... I do really like the challenge of this track though - it has such a flowing rhythm, yet can punish you so rapidly if you push its limits even slightly too far. With Clive dropping out early & Hristo powering ahead in the lead, I soon found myself in a lonely 2nd place. Despite my best efforts it was pretty clear that I wasn't going to catch H and with a big gap opening up behind, I just concentrated hard on lapping at my own pace. Any attempts to speed up resulted in scary near-misses & oddly enough, the same result occurred if I tried to ease off - so I just got kind of locked into the same rather rigid pattern every lap. It took me a while to realise that H was no longer running but even then I didn't dare vary my pace. Relieved to see the flag after what seemed like hours. Commiserations to H - dropped connections & freezes are the worst way to retire, especially whilst leading. Not the most deserving of victories for me but I don't get to see the top step of the podium all that often so I shan't complain! Well done to Andreas & Martin for 2nd & 3rd.

Hi there,

Gratulation to all of you!
That Race was really all about concentration. The front was to fast for me, the back (Martin) seems to come closer from time to time. So i managed to stay on the Roads that I was once driving in Real (but for sure not at that speed  ;) ) .
I am still not sure that I had the right car-choice.  :-\ Think I can be faster in the Lotus33. Maybe next time around.  :) All in all I am pleased with a second spot that I sure not get if Hristo was not dropped from his Internet connection.
Looking forward to the next Race!

So long
Andreas
