Title: UKGTL Season 13 Mini's -v- Escort's - Wick Island - Feb 11
Post by: Wiltshire Tony on November 21, 2012, 07:47:16 PM +0000
All members welcome.

Grid/server capacity: 28

Practice: ~19:20 (60 mins)
Qualifying: 20:20 (20 mins)
Race: 20:40 (36 laps)

Track: Wick Island Download this (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg187122#post_wick_island)

Cars allowed: Mini Cooper S KAD Works Download this (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_mini_cooper_s_kad_works), Ford Escort RS 1600 Download this (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_escort_rs1600).

Geoffers has created an alternative default setup for the Mini which I think is better. Contact me if you want to try it or get it HERE (http://www.gamefront.com/files/22773191/G%27s+Mini+KAD.zip)

Car restrictions: No Restrictions.

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal

Server: simracing.org.uk MvE
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.
(4) Driver lists can be found on the Championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=373&theme=5)

Special Notes: None

I'm not here for this one but it will be set up and ready to run on the server (hopefully).

If any one is able to take over server duties it would be appreciated. Don't need to do the results unless you want too. They can wait until I return.

Heck are you going on a world cruise? I will cover any server duties that are needed.

Thanks Matt, I will leave all relevant details in a Notepad file on the server desktop in case you run into difficulties.

Drat and double drat - I can't make this... I was looking forward to 'returning the favour' and having a GTL lesson from Tony... I want to make the next one though.

No problem Bill. Would love to do this series, but unfortunately Mondays are out for me at present.  :(

Maybe later in the season.

Hopefully.  GTL is the bread and butter and PnG the jam of my racing week.  Been racing long enough with GTL to sort out most problems but behind the curve on PnG.

:( I was fine when Bill joined in his Mini. BUT when Efilblitz joined I got a flashing screen and mismatch so had to abandon race.  :-\

Well what can I say about that race that was interesting/fun? Err, not a lot.

Five drivers for a 50 minute race was always going to be painful :(

Think if this 'Mini Vs Escort' series is going to continue till December, we might want to look at changing something to encourage more people to attend.
For me, it was a decent enough track & even though I have no interest in driving a mini, the Escort was normal enough. So I can only think it was the race length? Maybe a 25 minute sprint would work better for a two car battle than an endurance distance?

I hate to say this, but I just found both cars uninspiring when I tried them out. It's a shame as I enjoy the other GTL series and would usually be available to race on Mondays. And I like Minis  :)

There are some fantastic GTL mods......Opel Commodore 2800, BMW 2800CS for instance that would possibly make a good match  :-\

REsults and replay posted.

I didn't get on with either car. After my 3rd spin into a wall I gave up and left.

Disappointed at turn out - would like to think it was kids half term rather than lack of interest.  ::)  I think the Mini was ideally suited to the track, thanks to Geoffers setup.  :thumbup1:

New PBs all round.  Fluffed the start with too much wheel spin and went into T1 last.  Had various nibbles at Matt on lap I sorry for the nudge near end of lap.  :fencing: Tried to overtake on T1 on lap 2, left braking too late and locked up putting 2 wheels on the grass and went straight across the track into the Armco damaging front end.  :hammer:  After that the car didn't handle right and I had a number of offs with handling getting progressively worse. I had some lovely full opposite lock slides on penultimate corner but after a couple of cut-track warning I pitted for repairs - nats c*** under 2 mins.  After that put the hammer down and had fun including new PB.

Unlike some I enjoyed the night but then I love Minis - how about a Mini Series?

With reverse grid order? ??? Drove in a Sunday morning Nz/Aus League when I had a poor broadband connection.  Only problem is someone who screws up early in Race 1 doesn't want to hang around for 15 to 20 mins for their second chance.

:-[ As I said earlier I tried to join on a number of occasions and failed. I had down loaded all the necessary files so figured things were going pear shaped and opted for "World Of Tanks" instead!!  :) I had a feeling as it had gone 8pm the turn out would be poor. I am willing to support all GTL events and I like the Escort RS1600 but the Mini and I have never seen eye to eye.  ;D BUT I would still race and support the championship and make up the numbers.  :)

 ;D I'll Be Back  ;D

Surprising, unexpected and rare result for me here ;)
due to lack on turnout  :P
But liked the track and the Mini on this track  8)
