Track: Sebring 1970 Download this (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg187122#post_sebring1970)

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal

Server: simracing.org.uk FIFT
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) Driver lists can be found on the Championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=374&theme=5)
(4) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: This race is flag started. However the flagman is out of sync with the in-game countdown and you could get a stop/go for a jumped start if you go with the flag. I would strongly suggest that the in-game countdown is switched on for this race.

Airport = Flat = Boring. Well, there are exceptions but I do agree with you on this one GT

Heads up mates. If we are leaving the "cut tracks" on there are many places where you can get away with a lot of cutting exiting the corner very wide but if you exit the corner that leads onto the last long backstraight and are not within the painted lines you will get a warning. Keep in mind the painted lines and not the cones on this one corner. Most corners you may get right up next to the cones but not on the back straight. Revised: Turn one will get you a warning if you get too close to the cones as well. No real track lines there either.
Good luck ;).

Hi Navin, wondered where you had got to. I can take cuts off for this one, no problem. Generaly if cuts are on and drivers don't like then post it and I'll turn them off.

Thanks Tony been having trouble here because as Navin says track cuts are inconsistent.  :thumbup1:  Off line, other cars really cut some corners - as can be seen by tracks through the grass.

Agreed that cut warnings are very unpredictable here and I too think that leaving cuts off would benefit the race. As always we can rest assured that anyone caught grass cutting will be dealt with severely by the cut police.

Look out also for the first big braking point on the lap as you will disappear through the sandbank and onward to boldly go where no man has gone before.

It's looking like my chances of joining you for this one are pretty slim now :(

If you go wide and into barriers, in lots of places on this track, you'll just end up in oblivion. So be careful, and stay on the tarmac.

Unlucky Tony :(
I had gotten the practice I would have liked & found myself lapping on my own, a couple of seconds extra per lap behind the next person & a couple of seconds per lap quicker than the driver behind, had a little offs & just decided to call time. Just wasn't feeling the love, my fault for the lack of praccy, though the differences in everybodies laptimes is concerning ???

I lost connection too. Shame, as I was leading the race.

Bad luck Tony and Syd. I too discoed in the lead with 2 laps to go  ::)

@Legzy I think that's just the nature of the cars and their suitability to different tracks. I was slow in the merc too.

Wow, other than Mark who is Teflon coated 8) we have all had some bad luck in the first couple of races in this series. Very bad luck Tony,Syd and especially GT with only 2 laps to go ::).  The good thing with that means we are all still close in points and if we just all go Cobra Kai on Mark next race we'll all be even again ;). Sweep the leg!! :D But seriously good job once again Mark and congrats on another first place. Also, congrats to Kurt for keeping it together for this brain fade prone track :). My race was totally uneventful but fruitful as by taking the kind of slow Jag and getting a 2nd place finish that might just pay off late in the year as cars choice's get narrower and narrower :-\. Time will tell.

I lost connection too. Shame, as I was leading the race.
:-\  Thats a real shame Syd as I had thought I had put enough pressure on Goldtop to let you get away. I could not believe it when you disappeared.  :-[

As Navin commented in the race "Boring" which contributed to my demise.

During practice kept finding new places to come off and screw up car or lap.  Qualifying set new PB.  Made a reasonable start in Race, end of lap 1 was 5th, I think, due to Legzy and Kurt having incidents.  New PB on first flying lap trying to stay ahead of Kurt, my car was faster and he caught me at the corners.  :fencing:  On Lap 3 outbraked myself and ran wide allowing Kurt through, repeated maneuver on the next bend allowing Legzy through.  :hammer:  After that they both went away from me.  I tried to amuse myself by trying for new PBs.  After most I overcooked it somewhere and put in slow lap. Eventually after setting a new PB really screwed up and went through the sand bank at the hairpin and off into La La Land.  :helpsmilie:

:-\ I was going to suggest to Tony that we reinstate Goldtops win as he disconnected so close to the finish but now I read Syd had the same problem to so I guess it would be a tricky decision. It feels a bit of a hollow victory I have to say.  :-[ :-\

As far as my race goes I chose this car as it is fast in a straight line and as I had no practice to refine a set up it would save me the Aston for a more technical race later in the season. However I was surprised how close I actually did get to Goldtop and Syd and managed to put some pressure on early in the race and to a degree in the late stages in between cock ups into the hairpin. :'(
God knows how my tyres survived because I was completely sideways through T1 and T2, aim at the bales going in knowing that when you get there the car will be in a power slide and miss the target......Then some how collected it all back up for T3 on  a good lap closing right up with Goldtop and at one point exciting side by side. The Aston just had a little more power though and could get away!!  ;D

I think car choice will be crucial this season and possibly an Alan Prost rather than an Ayrton Senna that will take the championship.  ;)

PS A note to myself. GET SOME PRACTICE BEFORE NEXT RACE.  ;D

I had done some practise here and I chose the Maserati because I knew it's straight line speed is phenominal and there were enough long straights at Sebring to use that power. Downside is it's a real handfull at anything vaguely resembling a turn unless your crawling along. Also by taking the Mazer I have left better cars for some of the forthcoming fixtures. Still gutted that I lost connection though.  :cursing:

One thing that was amusing during this race, was the amount of smoke coming off Bill's car every time he was in a braking zone! It was as if his car was on fire & despite being 200meters behind him, I was braking 90% blind again & again! The sim racing equivalent of Russian roulette  ;D  (it really was quite amusing & something I've not seen before)

Lucky third place due to all the connection problems of the faster guys.
Boring track but I do like especially this version because it forgives nearly
all mistakes except at the hairpin  8).

Looking forward to the next events.

I have a cunning plan. ;D Can't get brake balance right  ::) - at least the car stops in straight line and it doesn't seem to affect tyre wear.

My philosophy regarding discoes (however annoying they might be at the time) is to just think of them as being unpredictible and random car failures. History is full of these (Mansell losing a wheelnut at Hungaroring immediately springs to mind).

And so much easier to accept when lives/livelihoods don't depend on them.

There is always a next week  :) :) :)
