Title: UKGPL Season 23 (2012) Porsche Cup (GT) - Laguna Seca - Nov 30
Post by: Cookie on November 27, 2012, 10:12:39 PM +0000
WELCOME to the UKGPL Season 23 - Porsche Super Cup - Race 9

We celebrate our 3rd season with the attractive PSC Team Championship and I hope we will have fair, clean and close racing.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The 9th race of this season will be at the famous American Laguna Seca Raceway, a short lefthanded circuit with relatively short straights & some rather challenging turns – including the aptly named Corkscrew.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
We have the Rolling ZONE for the start where a moderate speed of maximum ~ 75 mph (125 kmh) is required and no overtaking is allowed. (Read the registration thread!)

Guidelines for rolling starts...

The car on pole will lead off the grid and maintain a steady pace for the "rolling zone" around 75 mph (125 kmh)
All drivers should form up in single file behind him leaving 3-4 car lengths between each car.
There is NO OVERTAKING on the "rolling zone".
It is the reponsibility of the lead car to ensure that all drivers are with him as he approaches the final "rolling zone" corner.
Racing and overtaking begin AFTER the Start and Finish line!

Any driver who loses his position in the "rolling zone", by going off or through contact with another car ( regardless of fault) must rejoin at the back of the field.
Incidents on the "rolling zone" will be fully modded and anyone found to have caused another competitor to lose position through bad driving will be penalised appropriately.
Also, please make sure that you know which car you should be following on the "rolling zone", so that you do NOT get out of position.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

There will be full moderation of the Red Zone and reported incidents for the rest of the race.

Please submit incident reports within a week after the race so that the moderators report may be out before the next race.
Full time team drivers have priority access to the server.
Driver lists can be found on the Porsche Super Cup (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=369&theme=6) championship standings page.

Well I was slow but it was fun (for a while). Let the leaders past (again) and managed to crash into the pit wall. Stupid PRO settings!

About the brake issue, what can I say is...use more toe in at the back train (/-\) making the back more sliding at turn in and a more central brake bias (between 49% and 51%) it should help if not to eliminate definitely the issue, at least to keep it more controlled at turn in (that is where the issue happens at most).

P.S.: Italien Italien über alles...aber...auch unter alles LOL

I had the brake bug too, into the penultimate righthand corner and so ran wide.
Touching the fence made my engine sick...

Grats, Italian podium  :P

The best afair was a german driver in an italian car...

I was taking a look at the next track Schottenring...it is damn fantastic although very difficult to keep in mind ! I like very much tracks like Nurby, Charade, Solitude and now this one, although at last, I can't say to be very competitive !

You will be!
It's way shorter than Nurby.
You have to concentrate on the tricky parts and on some long "straights" you can relax ;)

 ;)
first of all now ; big hand , congratulation , auguri & grazie to Sergio, Piero and Marco !!!!

as to tricky hint to solve or minimize Gts brake issue via setup:

Sergio you ment rear toe in negative ?
my brake ratio was 48% for Laguna Seca anyway.

and anyway I didnt get how to solve a random appearing issue via setup work . But you said it may just help to make a brake issue mor controllable , right ?  ;)

I left a little drawing about what I meant.
/-\ means the back wheels converge in front of their rotation axis (toe-in = positive values), not behind their axis (toe-out = negative values).
Positive values mean always wheels converging in front of their rotation axis.

This is what Leo Grandis told me but it seems it is not a well known argument.

Yes, it should be more controllable !

The fact someone has the bug while not others, lead me thinking it should be in the setup the difference as well as on driving style.

Very sad we were so few.
Perhaps this championship has been underestimated or there has been something that made loose interest on it. Pity ! It is still one of the nicer we have on UKGPL...at least for me.

I think one of the main reasons was the pro mode in a championship with novices and amateurs.

Maybe we will give a single s+r for the last PSC race - with a 15sec penalty instead of a very dangerous stop+go.

S&G are often used by almost every championship and I don't think they are worse than a standstill start.

In GPFun, we used to make a Shift + R followed by a Stop & Go only when we had caused an accident in which pilots were involved or when pilots involved us in their accidents, but never in an accident in which we were alone or when we had mechanical problems after impacts on barriers or engines breaks.

Sometimes I've proposed to leave free the Shift + R for any accident only for those cars that were able to get to the proper pit stall, that means an upside down car...is out, and even that a car with 3 wheels can get to the pit stall for repairing (with a Shift + R) !
Since every shift + R must be invoked in the proper pit stall and this will respawn the car in a precise place, any driver must be informed to avoid the places where cars should respawn. So the pit lane is used to repair cars and more...with this behaviour the pit lane can be used also for refuelling coming at the pit stall also with no damages.
