This is a track I tried to use a couple of times when I was going to be running an "Iron Curtain" series
and I also wanted to run an event using the Panty, which is seriously good fun in PG3  ;D
The Panty Modena is the quickest, the other versions may be an easier to drive option.

The other cars are for me slightly slower, but are a reasonably close option for those that
want an alternative. If anyone want to post some times, that would be great.
If any car in alien hands is way quicker than my testing I can alter the list if required.

I think that it would be a good idea to adopt one or two test tracks, that we already know, to try out all of the cars that need looking at.  So that we understand the relative performance of each.

i agree, maybe a set of 'class' races at a certain well known track. ie work our way up through the classes of cars to see what are similar and what arent. TC65 race, GT65, Grp2, Grp4 etc.  You could even limit numbers of each car available so that everyone takes a different car rather than have 10 capris v 5 porkers and nowt else, as an example.
Maybe Donington for twisty & cambered, then Barcelona for good mix of long straight and fast curves  :)
I was surprised how many 'old' cars could power right past the newer machinery on the barcelona main straight last night and still battle relatively well in the corners.

Good plan. I had started with Portimao as a good allrounder, but I also wanted to see how Beranovac
worked on line, as I would like to use it in the future.
Unfortunately I have very limited time to give to this stuff, so sometimes it's whatever I can come
up with in the time available. When I ask for serious track car combo suggestions I am not being polite
I mean it. I had to create the new series and this event while at work for e.g
"Yes boss I am really working, honest"

Portimao is a great choice, lovely track and would  be good fun in these classics  8)

No probs with your cunning track selections but for testing purposes its better to have a track that most know, so that they can concentrate on getting the car right and driving it properly rather than learning a new track as well. A familiar track is a good bench mark.

Am sure a few of us can help with car/track testing if you need some. I expect there is a few of us who try say all 3 cars at an upcoming event, though i tend to always pick my favourite classic car of the available selection, whether its quickest or not.

Of course, if we wait a while, GC will have done several test races of their own and defined groups of similar competitive cars  ;)

I need all the info I can get. Creating events is easy, trying to come up with tracks that work well
with a selection of cars is hard work if you have to start from scratch every time.
Beranovac has a good mix of corners, and is pretty easy to learn (IMHO) and I like it  :P
so I would like to run it. It's a bit like Jops Siffert in style, only probably easier.
There has to be some perks that go with this job, so running fave tracks on occasion is
a perk I'll take advantage of.   ::)

I can't use the old matched cars examples in PG2 as in 3 some are different. So I need to get
a feel for what cars work with what, hence the larger choice of cars. The L88 Hardtop for
example is a pig to drive in my hands, with someone who can tame it, it may well be the fastest
car of this group.

We'll get there.  :D

Had a quick blast here and it's a great track for these cars although it does get a bit tight in places, which could get exciting  :o Haven't tried all the cars yet, but the IROC seems a bit off pace compared with the Panteras and the Daytona  :-\

As MJ says, I'm sure there would be a few of us willing to help out testing track/car combinations. Personally I find it almost as enjoyable as racing, so start PMing your ideas around Matt and we'll do what we can.

Post by: phspok on December 06, 2012, 12:36:56 PM +0000
My testing times below:
(All best times with 40 mins race fuel, and no more than 10 laps in each, some were just a couple of laps to see if they were in the same league.)

Vette Grand Sport  1:58.6
RSR 3.0                1:59.2

Pantera Modena     2:01.3
Daytona               2:01.8
IROC                    2:01.9
L88 Hardtop          2:02.1

Pantera Boss         2:05.6 (2:01,5 with setups and practice)
RSR 2.5                2:07.0
Cobra Coupe         2:09.0

RSR 2.8 might have been in the target range of mid 2:01 as would several others
Any times from other people for comparison would be super brill  8)

1: I could do with some comparison times at a fast and slow track of your choice for a mix of British and American
cars. Elan/ELite/Tina/MIni/Alfa etc etc in one group then some Yank tanks in another group, we have
some idea from PG2 events, but as you know some of the variants are quite different in PG3 and I have
no experience with them. Tony has already PM'd me some British roller skates comparisons which will be put into use
somewhere...

2: Is there a track where a 906 variant would match a Panty and/or GT40 variant?

3: Tonight's Aussie race should provide some much needed real world times that I can use, hopefully
not everyone will take a Capri.

4:If anyone wants to run as many cars as they can at Portimao that would be a huge help, as that is
a "mid range" track to me, so test data from there would be great.

PLease PM me any times, so as not to be a spoiler for possible future events,
Ta
Matt.

I just tried these cars on their default setups and had the following result in TT mode:-

Pantera BOSS   2:03.372
Daytona Coupe  2:00.659
IROC     2:05.257
L88 Hard Top   2:00.728

I'm just not a Porsche driver by the look of it but I do seem to remember that the default setups for the IROC were pants in v2.

That tightening left hander is going to cause some grief.   ::)  And we have a mix of cars with and without brakes so that will cause a few shunts as well.  You have to throw the anchor out very early in the Daytona and L88 but then again, that may be down to the default setups.

I only found one sort.   ???

What does the other one look like?

EDIT  Just checked my replay and I was using the C3 L88 Hardtop.  The other hardtop doesn't say L88.

Hmm.... very strange. ??? I get laptimes that are way faster than yours Matt.

1.54.900 in the Pantera and 1.55.500 in the Porca 3.0. using almost default setup.

Usually Matt is a bit faster than me, so ...... can I be doing something wrong here ?

Even more strange, I go 3 secs faster than Clive in the De Tomaso Boss  ???

These cars mostly feel as though the track rods have fallen off when I'm on the straight.

Can't be the wrong track, there is only one, but make sure you are using the one that Dave made an installer for
The track exists as a Clock Wise and Counter ClockWise layout. We are using CCW.

Clive's times look as expected, he is usually a bit quicker than I am, my IROC times are
a bit faster and I'm no porka expert either.
I always choose a Porka that is slower for me than the other cars for that reason.

My setups I used for testing, way off perfection, I just made something I could drive.
ALl were race fuel, and probably medium tyres.

5 Secs faster is a bit disturbing though  :o Danniel Scarpa or John_W perhaps... but last time I heard you were still a Human Stig  ;D

Have aliens from the planet Phnim been visiting Denmark? Perhaps I am just slow in these cars, but I drove the Panty quite a bit
so I should be somewhere near.

There are a few L88s but there is only one called "Hardtop"
It's not the RSR3.0 for this event, it's the IROC one, in case there is any confusion

I have started the practice server with the correct track BTW

If people post some more times I can see whether I need to adjust cars a bit.
Thanks

Slowest are the IROC and the Stock Pants but a good pairing together.

Middling are Boss, Hardtop and Daytona all within 3 secs of each other.

But the fastest car of all by over 4 secs is the Modena Pants.

GT, you're a very fast driver, so Pantera ( especially the Modena ) must be THÉ car for old Hotkeys.
I can do 115.000 on medium tyres and race fuel.

The balance of this car is so good, that you can catch a runaway rear end

OK thats the C3 type L88, as opposed to the C2 type. Cheers.

PS: 1.57.0 in the IROC, much nicer to drive now  ;D, the v2.1 IROC was just undrivable for me.

Post by: phspok on December 09, 2012, 11:33:27 AM +0000
Seems to be working out more or less right. The Modena Panty is the fastest, the Daytona is only just behind in the right hands
and the IROC is as good as you are a Porka driver. The Hardtop L88 is a variable, again close to the Panty in the right hands.

I am not intending to change the cars list based on the inputs so far, thanks guys for taking the time to post  :thumbup1:
And thanks for the PMs so far, it's all useful data for future events.

This is not a champ race, so people can take whatever car they like best, there is likely to be a couple of people to
play with whatever car you choose. Looks like I will need the Modena just to keep up with the field  :o

No idea why practice is in the dark, I set the start time to be 13:00 and then 14:00 was same both ways. I wil try
to set as 09:00 and see what happens.

Just a suggestion, so don't everybody reach for their guns, but wouldn't it be easier on Matt if we made these "Fun" races Benchmark events?

In other words specify a range of cars and a benchmark lap time that was not to be broken in practice, qually or the race.  Break it in the race and you are disqualified, for being in the wrong car.  At earlier stages you just have to change cars.

It would bunch the field up and stop people having lonely races.

If you specify a benchmark of 1:53 I will take the Pantera Modena.  At 1:57 it will probably be the L88 Hardtop.

All you need is an alien to let you know what the fastest time in the slowest car might be.  No point in setting a benchmark that is faster than that.

You can add a whole lot more cars in this way.

But I cannot possibly translate this into Italian.  ;D

Post by: phspok on December 09, 2012, 11:50:00 AM +0000
Reasonable idea, not sure I have the time to police it. I am happy to adopt a voluntary guide of benchmarks
if Clive or "people" want to suggest the times though.

1:57 seems to coming out as a target to aim for so far. I would still like to know what as many peoples as possible best times
are in all the cars, pretty please.  :chef:

Most value for me is to see what cars produce what times with different drivers, my times are usually a good baseline, but I may not
be so good in some cars compared to other poeples spread of times.
In the race as far as I am concerned it's a "fun" race so you take what you want
most help to me is lists of times from different people so I can work out an "average"
for a particular car which I can then use for future planning. I am not going to be able to spend hours testing
for next years events, I will choose a list of cars for a Season for the whole season, and probably at least one series
with different cars each event. a few tenths here or there is not important, all I need to know is which cars
are likely to produce close racing at most tracks
Sometimes it will be a bit dodgy where we have small cars with good brakes and bigger less nimble cars
for me this can make good racing as long as people are sensible, and mostly the people who race here are.
You did used to get Minis battling with Falcons, I am aware of Clive's dislike for this, but some people enjoy it, so
no reason such things shouldn't happen here. IMHO

Times are still a mix. I think The Pantera Modena may be too fast, but I could do with some more times for a proper rating
The Panty BOSS is slower for most people than the other choices, Only Stig seems to be doing non standard times in it so far.

My best times are currently

Pantera Modena  1:53.518
L88 Hardtop 1:57.422

Both done in TT mode and in daylight.

We usually have a big spread of times at these races so why bother removing cars?  Just put the right people in them.

For the purposes of just the race I agree. However I would like to see what the race is like with a good mix of cars
We may get a good turnout but we may not.
I am leaning towards removing the Panty Modena, to get more people into the slower cars, but will happily leave it
in if slower drivers could make good use of it (LIke me... )

Again I would ask politely that people use a car that gives no faster than 1:57 for this race whatever the choice is.

I just hope, that the Pantera Mondena will be used for some race, it has become one of my favourite cars. I did a 1.52.600 tt lap, and I'm pretty sure, I can find another second. My guess is, that John could go below 1.50  on a sunny day ;D

I will use the Pantera Boss on Thursday.

Ok, It looks like ~1:57 is the target still. No doubt with more practice and setup tweeks under 57 would be on for those that are already in the 57.something range.
Not a problem if you get a few tenths faster on race night.

I did a few more laps with the BOSS Panty and even taking liberties with the inside kerbs I can't get under 2:01 with race fuel.
I must be missing something  ???

I liked the Panty Modena too. It has to get a run in the future, it's way more fun than the GTL version for me. Agree with Geoffers about the IROC as well
it's much better in 3. Not sure whether we will be joined by some Italians or not this week, I can't remember when their league runs. I might remove the
Panty Modena in case there are any translation issues.  ::) Maybe they are uncomfortable with keeping two wheels on the road? is same as real racing IMHO
if you keep driving completely up the inside of kerbs for real you get a penalty. Less of an issue at this track, if you get a wheel over the kerb
the dirt will tend to pull you all over the place.

I am assuming people would want a race every Thursday, I am creating events including the Thursday after Christmas, N.B - Tony's Christmas special is on the Friday
using the fifties cars which are always good fun.

Not sure whether we will be joined by some Italians or not this week, I can't remember when their league runs. I might remove the
Panty Modena in case there are any translation issues.  ::)

I'm sure that Manteos could get the message over.

At St Jovite we had a 9.2 second spread in qually times from the English entry so I feel that we have people who could make good use of the Modena.

If the Italian entry want to race in it then they will have their own race; probably about 7 sec a lap up the road!

Oh Matt I think some of the laptimes you have me down for in post #33 are actually Goldtop's times, the only car I have tried is the IROC.

Oh, ah well I have your times in a separate post. I will tidy it up when I get back
I took out the Modena with some misgivings as the BOSS drives similar style though less power. Not had much input from other pace drivers
so I removed it in case some Aliens turn up and haven't read the posts. If someone needs it to genuinely keep up with the field ( I seem to be in that category)
then it can go back in at a moments notice. For a league race I would have left it out no question, but this is a test race so we can be more flexible.

Hi chaps :)

Don't worry, cause I always follow your discussions ;)

I asked to Daniele to find a car in which he doen't go under the 1.57 for the race, and I hope he will have some time to spare to try some of the cars in the list tonight. I'm still without a wheel, even if I asked to an Italian factory if they have the broken piece of my wheel to replace it and see if my G25 will work again. If not, I will try to send it to Clive, during x-mas holidays, and see if he can help me in some way. I'm still waiting an answer about the factory regarding that spare part.

Maybe I can just dust off my "easter egg" Thrustmaster wheel, and try to see if I can have still some fun with it, even if I strongly doubt about it. If I'm going to join the race, I will find a car in which I won't be under the 1.57 ;)

Cu soon chaps :)

Just took the boss Pantera for a drive. What a great sounding car  8) the engine sounds in p&g3 are the best in any sim I've owned. The flat6 in the iroc is also spot on.

1:58.0 in the Boss and pretty sure I would be in 56 or 57 with more laps in it. It's a darn cool racing car.  :)

If the likes of John cannot go slow enough in the cars listed can say the RSR 2.5 be an option?
I see that you had it on your list.  ;D

He is doing 1:56.xxx in the IROC but I do not know what session.

I assume in PnG that we can only have a benchmark for the race as we will be able to put soft boots on for qually.

Not that i expect John to be any slower, but i think he set his times in Timetrial and that always seems worth 2 secs a lap to me compared to online as you start your lap with 4 nicely warmed up and equally balanced pressure tyres in Timetrial mode and the track feels more grippy compared to a 'green' track when no one else is online with you to lay some rubber down.

Only if you skip the outlap.

Otherwise it is much the same as qually.

Ever the optimist MJ  ;)

I can't get the IROC to go quickly at all round here (stuck in the 59s) and I usually prefer pork. I'm quite enjoying the L88 which is a bit out of character for me and it flies up that backstraight  :) (Early 58s at present)

Jules was going to take the Modena, but as that's now off limits I think he'll probably go for the Boss.

It was in offline practice, which I think is only a little bit grippier than online race. I see that Geoffers has done a '57.0 in it as well though, but he does seem to have got faster with PnG3 :thumbup1:

I'll stick with the IROC if that's OK, as I'm sure it'll be a slower in a race session with medium tyres.

I still think that the likes of Jules could do with the Modena.

I think that Tudor and I will be in the L88 and Simon is in the Daytona.  If the rest of you could keep over to one side down the straight it would be most appreciated.  ;D

Braking for the end of the straight is a long term affair in one of these and any little car stuffing itself up the inside at mid corner going to get hit because we can't see it. ::)

Well I am so far unable to get under 2:01 in anything including the Modena so I could do with it.
I would prefer to leave it out if we can though, I will probably take the Panty BOSS,

I am, (possibly naively) assuming that after some more practice and proper racing that my pace will pick up and get closer to the "norm"
There are a couple of places where it takes some practice to get a fast run. the over the brow fast right down into T4 for e.g can lose
loads of time if not fully committed.

Not a problem if you get a few tenths faster on race night.

Had not thought of that Andy, but I would say no, use only the historic compounds
Not sure what it would do with modern compounds, they are only the wet ones, I "think" it ignores them
either way us only the Radials or crossply (bias)

and take what car you like Tim, will just be more fun if you are around the '57 mark

Lights were same as previous event. Sorry I forgot about it as well.
Those who got a black flag (was in top left of your screen) should perhaps have pitted for their stop and go as some of us did.
Was the makings of a good race, I like the track, is a bit narrow for the big power cars perhaps
but Alex Dan and myself had some good racing for a while until we damaged things.

I couldn't easily call a restart because chat doesn't work on this machine, and last time it was a case
of most people asked for it so we did it. no one said anything and people seemed to be racing rather
than take a S/G so we continued.
I will test the starts and post in BIG LETTERS to remind people about the start light procedure next time

GC have been using default tracks Mark, no problem with them. This is a problem on this track, see Zwiss's comment, 4th down on this page.

Its worth quickly looking through the comments on the downloads over at NG, someone has usually found any problems already.

Was a huge shame about the start lights/stop & go's etc. But I find it odd that two tracks in a row have had the same error? Isn't it more likely to be a fault with P&G3? Someone should try this track on GTR2 and see if the same thing happens. BTW I loved the track

Im with Clive, i didnt like the track at all. It was like driving through Chernobyl  ;D It had some nice corner sequences that felt great in the IROC but just didnt relate to a vintage racing experience for me with its high rise blocks and axminster ground coverage.

There is a thread in Nogrip under Power&Glory section that lists tracks that has a problem with P&G3/GTR2 as Geoffers alludes to.

That was a shame. I actually liked the track (and the advertising boards more  :) ) and although I didn't get any practise before the official practise I don't think I could ever get near John or Geoffers IROC times !!

I definitely had no black-flag from my false-start, and I had no text or warning pop up either. I tested it offline afterwards... the lights go green and stay on and the AI set-off about 2 seconds after.... so useless for online racing. Fun race or not I don't see how anyone needs to shout restart as it should be automatic by the admin. No one has mentioned the start-line and first corner smash ups either. What's the point in practising if we can't get the first part of the race fair??!!! There is a strict rule @ ukgtr where you can't talk during the race but we're expecting to shout restart?!!

I think someone should have taken the bull by the horns and just restarted!!!

Title: Re: UKPnG Season 8 Fun Races - Beranovoc - Dec 13
Post by: phspok on December 14, 2012, 12:50:34 PM +0000
There is also a tradition (sometimes broken) where we just don't do restarts. It was not obvious from where I was at the back of the field what was going on,
It just looked like someone had had a coming together, had it been obvious then I probably would have called a restart.
Some affected people just made negative comments and left from what I saw, if people had been less impatient
and a lot of people were in the garage waiting then maybe we could have rescued it. Easy with hindsight to say what should have happened. I saw a black flag
so went into the pits for a 10 sec stop and go, and when I got there some others were apparently doing the same, some others seemed unaffected, some made
emotional comments and left. Might as well carry on then.....  :surrender:

Title: Re: UKPnG Season 8 Fun Races - Beranovoc - Dec 13
Post by: Manteos on December 14, 2012, 01:21:43 PM +0000
I've read a lot of comments about the Start Lights of this race. I guess that since when I started to race here, I always suggested (at least 10 times... this is the eleventh ;D)to the people to look at the timer unless you tried a race start offline and see that the lights are working well. It's a common issue with a lot of add on tracks for GTR2, and obviously with the P&G, and there's no way that the starting lights of a track can work well with GTR2 and not with the P&G. If the lights don't work for P&G, they won't surely work for GTR2 aswell. They're the same game. Only the original tracks don't have this issue.

So if you're going to race in an unknown track, the suggestion remains the same: Use the HUD, and start only when the timer starts. After seven years of GTR2, that should be clear for everyboby  ::)

P.S. Usually the black flag appears under the xd minimotec MJ, so you will hardly see it if your xd is on. DQ after 3 laps is the natural consequence of failure to respect the S&G for the false start.

See you :)

Wise words. I was also guilty and just went with the pack. I haven't looked at replay, but maybe the people/someone at the front
were/was actually waiting for the timer, and got thumped by those that did not. dunno, just a thought.

I will put a reminder on the front page going forward, AND I will test the start lights for any tracks I use in future, and post
clearly whether you can trust the green or not.

Hmm, I think I must have done a test start, because I remember looking for the lights from the front of the grid, and you could see them
if you "looked left" but it was not obvious. And I don't remember there being any weird lights delay etc or I would have said something.
AH well once more unto the beach  tumbleweed

HUDS for bonnet racers.  ;) Those who prefer the proper view from inside the classic cockpit dont get that luxury. Though i think there is an over-ride hotkey to turn it on inside the car too...but not sure if it has a race timer on it? maybe someone can confirm. If it does, id rather do that than lose the great view you get from the cockpit with a full grid of race cars steaming off the line.

At this track the s/f straight was extremely narrow so that also caused some probs as some went and some didnt and there was nowhere to go around them!

People at the front had no option but to use the HUD as they couldn't see the lights anyway, they were behind them.  Well, it is panto season!  ::)

I could simply answer with only 1 word: WRONG! In Italy the use of the cockpit view in every champ is MANDATORY, and I never used another camera view in my entire Simracer life... so if I can see the HUD in cockpit view inside my car as all the other drivers, you can do the same. It's not a luxury, it's simply a game option Mark  ;D ::) And yes... it has a race timer on it on the top right of the screen. ;)

If I remember well, you can activate it inside the "Video" option menu, or simply pushing the number "2" or "3" (I don't remember which one) of your keybord when you're inside the car.

First time I was happy to stall on a start in something with a real engine - Quite lucky I did too!
I quite liked the track as it was different. Some nice scenery too ;)

cor they're jumpy and excitable these Italians !  ;)  I should know i'm married to one  :o

Got a sneaky feeling you need to edit the plr file to get the in-car HUD to work with P&G3 ? My in game options had no effect. Theres a line that says HUD in car = 0 or 1. (or suchlike).
and then your hotkey '2' can flick it on or off when driving. I would only use it for the starts personally as its ugly in a classic car cockpit.

Manteos is correct. I just tested it to confirm #2 and it can be assigned to a button.
I have been under the assumption that we where restricted to cockpit view. ??
Most all leagues use cockpit view only an I don't understand why that's not being applied here ?
  What else is allowed ?
The playing field need's to be leveled and restrictions applied.
It's bad enough that the software has area's that need corrected such as brake fade and over heating which allow for what I call goofy braking ,when you drive with the brake applied thru the corners which was brought to light at iRacing.
I hope we can correct some of these issue if they apply.

I dont think we need to blow this out of proportion!

I just think someone needs to test the track first to see what the light procedure is. Which to be fair, any of us could have!

And yes races/cars were ruined at the start-line from people starting and stopping from false starts.

LOL MJ! It's just that when somebody gives untrue informations I must correct them  ;D ;D :P

To answer your question, even this time I don't understand why you have this kind of issue. By default the .plr line that contains this setting is set in this way: HUD="1" // 0=none, 1=Full, 2=Minimal (when enabled)

So you don't have to modify nothing if you didn't modified something in your plr previously. If you had that voice set to "0", you modified it in advance, and to use the HUD, you should modifiy it to "1" and save the plr. When you're inside the game, you can always switch it off when you want, as McLowry confirmed, just pushing the #2 key of your keyboard. If you push it just 1 time, you will see the Full HUD, if you push it for the second time, you will see a minimal HUD, if you push it for the 3rd time, you will switch it off ;)

Err, I think that should read "so only the finely honed racing skills of Tony enabled him to achieve a famous victory"
