Why Monza?  ???  :wetfish:

'cos its the one and only track that everyone knows to the point of needing no practice!

I need practice for it, otherwise I'm not as quick! It's only at tracks that nobody knows well that I do better.  :D

Might turn up though, since we're running 69s!

Not to clear about the chassis rules on this , as I understand it if we take the Lotus for the 67 race we MUST use lotus for the 65 , 66 and 69 races ?

OR we take brabham for 67 race we MUST use Brabham BT24 but for 65's we can use ANY as long as its a Brabham 65 chassis BT7 BT11 ?
same for 66 , 69 's

Is this correct ???

Yes Bernie, BT7 or 11  ;)

there are some cars that have not been in all the mods as e.g. a Honda, so there has to be taken another car in 69X but not one of the complete makes.

I think the chassis selection works like this.
Brabham, BRM, Lotus & Ferrari - have a car in every year.
Cooper has a car in every year, but for 69 it doesn't have any wings, so you will have a disadvange.
If you want the Eagle (66 & 67) then you should take the BT7 for '65 & the McLaren for 69
If you take the Honda for 65,66 & 67 then you can have the Matra 69.
For the eagle & Honda it is not exactly the same team, but this but this should give a good spread of cars that with different performance levels that even themselves out - unless you take the Cooper.
Assume that the 1966 will be 3L versions.
(This is Cookie's series & he can change it if he sees things differently)

Great idea Cookie.  I like the chassis selection scheme, if it works out well it might be an option for a full series?

Bad mistake on my part - closed up too quickly on Dave R. Knew I couldn't go to the right to avoid as Blito was there. No excuse for rear-ending you so I retired in shame.
Didn't feeling deserving enough to enter the second race.

it's just race for fun ! I hope you will be there for the second race ...maybe I could give you the same rear ending ;)

Aaaaaaaaargh!!!!
I thought I had cured my sound issues with a new sound card and replaced sound files but.......................

Just after the start of the 65 race the gremlins attacked again and slowly my sound became more and garbled until it was just noise and I had to turn the speakers off and simply watch the rev counter for gear changes  ??? ???.

I got a good start in the waza and hooked onto the tail of the leading bunch where i was happy to sit for a while as one or two cars tangled and I picked up places. A good draft and I got past Al as far as Lesmo 1, where Al gave me a gentle nudge  :wetfish: to spin me around.
Well!!!!! :cursing: after the sound issues and being nerfed, from where I was sitting a thick red fog suddenly decended over Monza. I adjusted my white headband and flicked the car around and set off to chase the leaders.

Slowly but surely I caught the leading pack even though my engine temp was getting a little too high ( partially due to not being able to hear the engine revs I think) so once in the draft I allowed myself to cruise for a lap or two as things cooled down.
3 laps to go and it was time to pounce!! I picked off the leading cars one by one until I got alongside Axel going down to Curve Grande on the last lap and slipped into the lead.
I knew he would attack at Parabolica and I should have taken the inside line, but I didn't and allowed him the space. I was just ready to nail the gas from my wide line and sweep to victory when a rear wheel appeared alonside me and knocked me into the greenery :-\

Defeat snatched from the jaws of victory !!!!! :death: :death: :death: It was a really enjoyable race despite the 2 offs and NP guys they were racing incidents.
I tried the server for the 67 race but the sound was again just unbearable despite restarting GPL between the races, so I quit and went looking for an answer............still have not found one!!!!!

Sorry about the touch into Lesmo 1 Clive. I was trying to hold it tight on the inside but I must've slid wide :-\ Luckily someone else dealt with you at the end  ;)

Your sound problems are puzzling - but I always had audio issues with XP & GPL - it took a lot of messing around with different audio drivers to get it stable. One solution that I'm pretty certain would work is updating to Windows 7. I went for Win 7 64-bit & it got rid of all those silly little niggles - including the occasional total graphics blackout I used to get during a race :'( (not power save but some kind of graphics malfunction - audio used to carry on grrr)

LOL Clive,
when you had your paranormal contact with me I was near the finish line  :scooter:

But I have had my Para contact with the crashbox of Attilio in the first lap, when I tried the inside line and my back kicked out a bit under braking...
Sorry Attilio, it could have been a great fight to the end :notworthy:

All in all it was great fun racing, but the difference in 67s between Elves and Santas is bigger than in 65s...

There was LOADS of room for you to pull out - I had no overlap and was simply getting a better view of the road ahead to judge the breaking point! Had you pulled out I would have given you room enough :)
I was disappointed to see you go off like that as I think there was a great battle going on between us with plenty of give and take and some real respect for each other!
Pity race 2 wasn't so good for me - my qual setup was crap crap crap so I ditched it and ran on the default one instead (complete with 50 gallons ) of fuel. I was only 0.5s slower with full tanks than my own setup in qually trim!

Hmmm, your comments are interesting Al.  I am indeed running XP and for years I had no problems whatsoever, but these sound issues seem to have slowly, but steadily,  got worse. Maybe 6 months ago I would get an occasional race when the engine sound seemed to go into a loop that rose and fell in pitch although still sort of linked to the rev counter. During that time I did nothing to change sound drivers or change anything sound related, which led me to believe that is was a corruption of the .wav files. I replaced all my sound files at the same time as I installed the new sound card and thought that I had cracked the problem....it appears not! :-\
Lately the distortion has got so bad that the actual engine sound is indiscernible amongst the noise. It almost seems that each sound that is used by GPL like skid, gearchange, bump against crash barrier etc, is not just played once but once used it continues to loop around on top of all the other sounds just adding to the general noise level until everything becomes unbearable.
The random blackouts have also started  over the last 2 months and interestingly the sound also carries on as you experienced. Maybe Santa can be persuaded to deliver Windows 7/ 64 bit next week  ::)

Strange to read, you still have those sound issues Clive...

The Asus Xonar soundcard should have solved your problems!

- sometimes XP forgets the sound settings after a crash ::)
- I have maxed the Xonar hardware acceleration and conversion quality! (I have a german version of XP. Maybe its different in english...)

XP gives me the possibility to use both sound devices alongside!
When racing with Funliga I use the onboard with the headset for Teamspeak and the race sound comes from the Xonar to the speakers.
Afaik W7 can't do that...

Have you read my former post?

Maybe I should add that the sound issue does not happen 100% of the time. Sometimes I will join a server and everything is fine, but maybe after 10 mins of quali things will start to go wrong and at other times I can complete a whole race with perfect sound. But the problem is becoming more and more frequent and now occurs in about 75% of races. :(

It is the fact that the problem is NOT consistant that is so frustrating!!!!

To Axel....

Yes, thanks for your previous post Axel. I looked at all the suggestions and made adjustments. I thought that I had beaten the problem. Also have tweaked the Xonar settings as you advised...... :-\

That is maddening Clive. Perhaps one suggestion (assuming you have a bit of time to faff around in between mince pies this Christmas ;) ) is that you can download Win 7 64-bit for free (legally) - it's widely available online as a 90 or 30 day "trial" version. If you are happy enough to spend the time making a full back-up of your XP system (or alternatively install win 7 as a dual boot option?) you could try it out for nothing & see if it works. That's what I did.

Edit: of course the other nice thing about GPL is it doesn't need to be reinstalled (phew). The only thing I reinstalled was GEM - then pointed it to my GPL folder & that was that.
