Dohh, no I hadn't. Ok input please chaps, do we postpone it to the week after?
Or move to Weds? Not keen on Weds as it clashes with other leagues.

Also - don't understand why this series doesn't appear in the "Series" list now it has an event.

Of course. However, St Andrews day or Bastille day etc do not normally mean you are obliged to be
with your lady (or Boy) friend that evening. I might be there myself, I hate crowded restaurants anyway
but many may not. I will leave the event in for now, if a majority shout then we might postpone it.

hmm, i think your better off postponing this event or there wont be anyone there (except Stig  ;) ) its not only an 'endurance' race on valentines night but also a couple of regular drivers on their hols.
I also think there should be a bigger range of cars for a long race to attract more drivers.

Upto you naturally

I am at home for this one for a change, and I have a pass out to do it if I want.
I am gettting to do so few events this year that I would be reluctant to cancel one
of the few events I can actually get to! Still opinions by post please, no point if it
is just going to be me and Stig, and yes I will try to add some more car choices.

In the pre season discussions there was some interest in endurance races, so I have set up one alternating with the Lotus 7/"Other" Spec races
This is not a one off so people will get chance to have a go some time.

MJ also not able to join. I have just reinstalled the P&G 3 onto the server, gimme a few mins while I check track files etc.
The SROUK links are broken , I might just upload my local one and offer that.

Track D/L link changed, please re-download, and uninstall any previous versions if required

There are two versions of the track on NoGRip. both called version 1.0. So I have zipped and uploaded what The server and I both have
to the download link as a safe known version. Please install the version in the link on the front page. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks.

Also a couple of extra cars to choose from. This event follws the sports car event , so I have added some more car choices to make
it less samey.

I'm still getting booted as possible cheat when trying to join the server - this is with the track linked in the thread here, but I also tried both versions from NoGrip and they give the same result.

Also, the track linked from the first post of the thread here seems to contain 2 track versions, one folder nested within the other which seems a bit odd?

A very nice track IMO, but no luck getting on the server for me either.

Once more, you have changed the car options Matt, will that go on for the rest of the season ?

I spent a couple of hours yesterday choosing my car and getting a decent setup.
I ended up with the 914, and refined the setup for the race.

A waste of time really, since you included the Capri 2600. In just 3 laps, using the defult setup, it was 2 seconds faster for me than the 914!

Nice track - and a nwe one for mee.
But can't join the server neither - due to cheating suspicion
(using the same 914 than last week at Paul Ricard) ...  ???

Post by: phspok on February 10, 2013, 05:23:37 PM +0000
Perhaps I should just resign... ::)

I can get on with the track in the link, which came from my homes system, and is the same as the one on the server.
Yes there is a track within a track which I found odd, but I don't think the nested one is used, and the zip I created
and resinstalled back to my system (where it came from ) works perfectly. I wil investigate (again)

I tested a few cars and I got identical times within one tenth for the Elan and the 2600 Capri, if my times are not representative
then I will remove it. I will run a few laps with the IROC and the 914 and if they are out of place then I will adjust.

Car choices may get adjusted at any time during the year, hopefully once I have a a few good list of sets of matched cars
it will not happen so much. I will not be creating events with a wide list of cars as used elsewhere.
Please don't keep pointing me at the GC list, which is good, but for me a bit too wide for what I am trying to do.
So far the races have been a huge success. A little messing around on the first few events can't be helped at the moment.

EDIT: I have put the original link back, and installed that link's file onto the server and on my system
and I can join fine. PLease test and let me know . Thanks

OK. I will remove the Elan and the Capri, they are 1.5 secs faster than the 914 for me. I am trying to produce a list
which might have a faster car but one that has worse tyre wear, this is a long race so tyre wear is a big factor.
Anyway I will. Might try adding something a bit slower into the mix for those that want one.

Thanks Ed,
Could be. This last install was option 1 in the installer menu. where it copies the tracks from a GTR2 install, I then installed only Potrero
and copied no other tracks directly from the GTR2 installation. Earlier install was done with a copy of tracks, and I could join
maybe only I need to run their fix on my local system, and everyone else is now be ok, can't do much testing at the moment
as the GTR2 race is underway, and we always kill the other league practice servers when we run any of the races servers.

Added fix for copied tracks and I can now join the server, which has not had any tracks copied.
So "should" be ok now.

In testing I get the Elan and Capri 2600 at 2:44.0, the Panty BOSS at 2:44.6, and the 914 at 2:43.1
I may add the Panty BOSS to roundup the cars a bit. I would like to have added the Elan and Capri but if they
are too fast for others they can stay out.

Wonder if the 2.5ST fits in with those cars Matt? Worth a few laps test, i can try it tomorrow otherwise.

I "think" the server is ok, please test and reply if you can.

I tried the 2.5 it was a couple of seconds slower, I can add it if people want it in.
Also tried the CObra coupe, and the Panty BOSS and they was ok, but again a second or two slower.
The Daytona  was too fast, the ELan and Capri 2600 were for me slightly slower than the 914 but Stig
(who's times I trust more than mine) reckons the Capri was too fast so I have removed it.
I want to avoid just having the same cars as last week, it 's unfortunate that
this event which alternates with the spec races fell on the week immediately after Paul Ricard
but hey,I get to play this week as well  ;D

Your doing a great job Matt, it's always going to be a tough job trying to achieve the tight balance in races in this first PnG3 season. You're going to have to make a lot of tough decisions 'for the best' along the way and I'm sure you'll enjoy everyone's support as you continue to give up your time & effort for our enjoyment.
Much appreciated thank you :notworthy:

Title: Re: UKPnG Season 8 Enduro Cup - Potrero - Feb 14

Tough one Stig. I have to try to balance my desire to produce the best race I can against annoying people
by changing car choices.

This week I can say for certain that none of the currently listed cars will be removed, and only cars listed in the announcement are
valid choices.

I might add a couple of slower cars for extra choice.
The closer we get to an event the less likely it is that the cars will change.
Only reason I am considering anything this week is because I have been away for the last two
weeks and have not been able to do everything I wanted to.

@Legzy: Thanks for that. Well, you did this for ages you should know  ;D

Didn't mean to critizise Matts dispositions, and I'm sure he knows how much I appreciate his work    ;D

In case you need it to sort out the balance-issue, these are my laptimes.

Ford Capri 2600:  2.39.500 on default setup, racefuel and hard tyres after just 3 or 4 laps. More practice and a better setup would probably cut 2 secs.

Porsche 914-6  :  2.39.690 on my own setup, racefuel and hard tyres after some 40 laps

Tried the Pantera Boss, but it would take me forever to get it competetive on this track.

Thanks Stig
I always always want as many times form as many people as possible, my times are not always representative
of what others do in some cars.

I don't take it as criticism, I understand that it's frustrating to do practice and setups only to find that your work
is reduced in value because another faster car is added at short notice.

I will add the Panty BOSS and the 911 2,5 for those who want more of a challenge
The panty BOSS is nice here but is slower for me, and has higher tyre wear, so is unlikely to be my choice.
There will be no more car changes after tonight.

Track works fine online for me now.

Haven't tried all the cars yet, but the Capri and IROC seem well matched at low 2:38s currently. Capri is quicker down the straights, but slower out of the corners than the IROC so that bodes well. The 914 should be better here than at Ricard where it lost too much time down the straights and the 2.5ST will be a tough challenge for anyone in an endurance  :o I think the Panty will struggle in the corners.

You'll never please all the people all the time Matt, but I reckon you're doing a great job  8)

The Capri and the Elan aren't in the list anymore because they were apparently too fast for the group.

Finally got around to trying the track last night after all the server shenanigans and must say it was worth the wait - great mix of slow technical corners and fast sweeepers, plus some rollercoaster changes in elevation - this track has it all!

Only tried the 914 and also getting low 38s - I'll probably stick with it as I only got 2 laps in it last week. Feels right at home here though..

Watch out for a black hole on the inside of turn 17 there is a temptation to put wheels over the kerb
but in previous events at this track some people found themselves spinning into the green part
on the inside and disappearing into another dimension, Please be carefull there or you will have
a short and annoying race.  :o

Theres an outside chance i may actually get to race this, for once real lifes fickle ways coming to my aide  :P Not sure if i will get to do the full 70mins but will see on the night. But not done a lap yet and dont think ive ever raced at Potrero  :-\ so also depends if i get any laps in before then!

Matt, have you tested pitting here yet? There has been the odd enduro race in the past using add-on tracks where people get unfortunate DNF's when it came to pit stop time. Might be worth a pre event check just to make sure!

I think also your making hard work for yourself trying to create a small number of very similar paced cars for these first season P&G3 races, as noble as it is.   An enduro like this would have made an ideal test bed for a bigger spread of cars to see how they fared over a proper race distance, when factors like fuel consumption and tyre wear make a difference. Would have been good to see how the bhp tyre shredding monsters fared against some of the more nimble machines over 70mins  :)  Still, theres always the next enduro  :)

Yup (but effort appreciated).

Matt, have you tested pitting here yet? There has been the odd enduro race in the past using add-on tracks where people get unfortunate DNF's when it came to pit stop time. Might be worth a pre event check just to make sure!

I tested it, and it seems to work fine. Note that there is an automatic pitspeed limiter here, but you don't get a penalty, if you enter the pit zone too fast, as far as I could tell.

Wow, that was 3 years ago!! No wonder I don't remember it  :P well found though, some names from the past on that list and a good turnout.  :)

A couple of the cars are marginal on fuel, would make it, but have no choice on what lap to come in, so I have reduced
the race slightly to 25 laps

Great track this, remembered it as soon as I got on track  :)

Managed a 2:38 online in the feisty 914 and a 2:41 in the 911ST ( but only did 3 laps in that so would find more time).
Just got to hope I get to race now  :-\

Pancakes sound like the right kind of preparation for an endurance race :- ))

BTW .... just found out, that there are no penalties for cutting corners here, so we will all have to remember to conduct ourselves as proper gentlemen  ;D

Pancakes postponed from Tuesday so that my son can partake tomorrow.

Have a good race Matt and everybody.

PS  @ Matt: Gave Simon a good stuffing on Sunday.  One round to go and I'm 8 points in front of him.   First outdoor meeting in Victoria Park is 31-3-2013.

LOL. Might wander down if I'm around.
Are you certain about cutting Stig? it is quite tolerant, but I remember in previous events you get cuts if you go too wide in
the right hander before the right left onto the finish.

Apologies to Legzy

I am awfully sorry for spoiling your race for the second time Legzy. Will have to go back to racing school to learn some extra careful driving when closing in on another car :o.

Will try to avoid this in the future.

Knowing how to do the pitstop as fast as possible helps a lot. I believe it pushed me up some 4 or 5 places  ;D

Lots of fun watching Matt in the Pantera fighting me and 2 other 914's for several laps -- great racing !

Guess what?  my race was ruined by my pitstop!..no really  ;D

Turned up late after a last minute pass. Promptly stuck the car 6th on grid with minutes to go of qually.  :)

Race was excellent, great battles with Matts Pantera, Legzy in a fezza and a clutch of 914/6's all duking it out. :fencing:
By mid race distance it was time to pit and i was running a strong 5th place. Pitted all fine, sat there as i watched them lower ye-olde fuel nozzle into the bonnet (all very cool!) ...then i sat there and sat there...for 3 minutes thinking, hmm, they've modded old fashioned fuel filling to make it take a while. :-\  Then thought, hang on...are they waiting for me to kill the engine, put it in neutral etc?  (This was my first pitstop in P&G3 and first using my manual shifter)...what i didnt know was my buttons had been remapped  ::) Quickly fumbled over the keyboard until the engine cut, then 'glug glug....yippee!
I emerged 2 blinking laps down on the rest of the field  :'( :taz:
Had a long dull second half of race with nobody to fight, nearly threw it all away with 3 laps to go when a big lapse of focus meant a hard whack on a wall but the feisty 914 held together...phew.
Dragged its carcass home for 8th place, one lap ahead of someone who had an even worse pitstop  :D

Cracking track, good turnout for a valentines night enduro  :thumbup1: and what a great little race car the 914/6GT is  8)

Top work by Geoffers and Goldtop, great pace up front  :notworthy: and Stig blagging 3rd meant that was probably mine for the taking as i was 2 cars ahead of him at the pitstops!

Results and Replay Posted

Great race. The Panty was not really the car for the job, but was great fun
Thanks guys  ;D

The 914 probably held together becaue I reduced the damage level for this event as it was a long one.... ::)

Hard luck Nik...that would have been a good battle.

My race was scuppered by a stop/go for pitspeeding which I've never known before in PnG  ??? I even practised my stop in an offline race and all was ok. Funny thing is that when I served my s/g it didn't come up on the clipboard so I ended up taking tyres again. I was expecting to receive a dq for this, but it never came. Obviously something very wrong there  ??? ??? ???

I've stated before that I hate pitstops as the only thing they add for me is the headache of working out a strategy (I do enough maths in my day job) and the potential for ruining a race.

Anyway, congrats to Geoffers for a great drive  8)

Jeez my pit in lap was just under 7 minutes lol  :o :D
Also your chart says I retired with suspension damage but I actually ran out of fuel on the last lap  ::) must be a track bug as I did 13 laps on first fuel tank and then refilled it to the brim where it only managed a further 11.5 laps  ??? Zarek was a lap behind me when the race finished so assume means I should be 8th not 9th?

I guess it's coming from so many years being comfortable with the procedures in GTL, but there seem to be 2 certainties with my PnG races so far - I will ALWAYS miss the start, and my pitstop (if there is one) will never run to plan..

Yes, it took me awhile to realise you had to switch off the engine in PnG at pitstops before the crew will refuel your car. Then, even when I knew this I used to forget to switch off anyway. This time I remembered correctly to kill the engine as soon as I stopped, but then the damn car would not restart afterwards. *sigh*

Never mind, the first half was fun.

Congrats Geoff and the podium.

i just hit the same key i found that killed the engine, that worked  :)  Must remember to remap my keys before the next one.

ps...anyone use the 'handbrake' in P&G3? i see the setting for it in the garage menu but havent mapped it and tried it yet. Might have been useful in that very tight uphill right hander here.

It seems I was the only one who took the time to practice pitstops  ;D ;D

Here's a few tips:

You need to turn off the ignition to stop the engine, then turn it on again, and finally hit the engine-starter once the fueling is done. Both buttons can be mapped as you see fit. Also you guys should know, that it's possible to plan your pitstop orders during the race by the use of dx. You can preorder, that body damage or suspension should NOT be fixed during pitstop. It works the same way as the Motec in GTR2. It can be very stressing to do this during the race, but it saves you a lot of time in the pit.

I hope you guys DO NOT pay any attention to this, so that Hotkeys may once more gain several positions, whilst you gents mess about in the pit-area ;) ;)

I have always been rubbish at pitstops, so I leave everything auto
I drive into the pits, the engine stops after a few secs, the guys do their thing and I drive off.
You can set some options in the strategy part of the advanced setups. I forgot about
the XD pit thing, my options were rather limited though. I needed a full tank as I only had
enough for 2 extra laps at best, and my tyres were all shot at half way, my damage was
cosmetic and took 5.5 secs extra so I just hit return and get straight on with it rather than
mess about with the pit board. A shame Legzy had an incident as he is a master of pitstops
and if I go into the pits ahead of him, I invariably behind on the road when he comes out
after his, has happened a few times in the past, the man is a pit wizard  :sorcerer:

I'm using the logs from the server as supplied with the replay.
When I logged off noticed that PnG3 designated you with Suspension issue not fuel.
Don't know why the SROU results list you differently than the server's results. I'm afraid you have to ask Matt.

Seems I was one of the few not to have any pitstop issues, apart from nearly overshooting the pit entrance.  ::)

Race was quite straightforward, took the lead from Nik & GT at the start. Saw Nik disappear & then had to drive hard to hold a gap of 2-3s over GT until he pitted. Had a few more laps in the IROC tank so ran to 16 laps before pitting. Saw GT had to stop twice so could be a little leisurely about my stop & also decided to change tyres as well as refuelling. Came out with a 30s+ lead & drove quick but carefully to the flag.

Congrats to GT & Stig on the podium, cya next week.  :thumbup1:

Dan, thanks for the apology. I should have continued, but red mist had decended.

MJ, anybody who has ever run out of fuel during a race here in all the sims (bar iR), has always been effectively docked a lap automatically by the import system. I can remember it being discussed a couple of times at least & think Dave gave some explanation when he was running UKGTR2.

Matt, yeah not sure why (as I do nothing smart/special), but I do always benefit from pit stops
