Watkins Glen International ("The Glen") is an auto race track located near Watkins Glen, New York, at the southern tip of Seneca Lake. It was long known around the world as the home of the United States Grand Prix, which it hosted for 20 consecutive years (1961–1980). In the early years races passed through the heart of the town with spectators lining the sidewalks, but after a car left the road in a 1952 race, killing one spectator and injuring several others, the race was moved to a new location on a wooded hilltop southwest of town. Later a permanent race course was constructed on 550 acres, overlapping part of the previous course. Despite improvements, the circuit became unable to safely handle the increasingly faster and stiffer ground effect cars of the late 70s and a few horrendous, sometimes fatal accidents and increasingly rowdy segments of the crowd began to tarnish its image. Finally, in May, 1981, several months after Alan Jones had won the 1980 race for Williams, the International Auto Sports Federation removed the race from its schedule because the track had failed to pay its debts to the teams.

Gutted to miss this one, but I shall be on holiday (the one to get over Xmas/NY!!!)

Baab and I will continue as Team Baarf this season. For the first race of last season we didn't earn any team points cos I didn't realise we had to do anything to ensure we were associated with the championship (as a team). Should this be automatic, or does everyone have to do this at the start of the season?

Cheers

Arf

You need to set the Team scoring up.  It might have defaulted to what you want but best to check.  On the Blue buttons above select "LM2" and then "Team Management".  You should get a page up that allows you to select "All" (which obviously means all series) or individual series if you are a member of more than one team.  So for example you could score for Team X in the Historics and Team Y in the Works.

Oh dear - not a good start to the season;  clearly some practice required!

Qually was surprisingly good considering.  Main event was only a couple of laps - but good to get the season underway.

Cheers all,
Dave.

Had fun in the Eagle but I was so late to qually that I didn't even know which car I was in...

Set one lap from the pits and spent the first few laps finding out whether I could drive the car or not. Generally I could but I kept finding Neutral at the last turn which span me. Did that at least ten times. Other than  that - pretty steady.

Apologies to anyone I got in the way of, tried to be a good citizen but apparently wasn't entirely helpful once or twice. Offended parties can claim beer... you've just got to find me...

Besides the pole, not a good start of the season for me ::)

In the 11th lap my engine blew...
When I did the reset I was about 250m ahead of the Gebhards, but it needed a second to get away, Flo was surprised and just touched me, what made me spin in front of his father... SORRY!

I took the ESC to avoid further carnage

Grats to my teamie, Nigel - podium next time mate!

Grats to podium and everybody raced.
See you all in Zeltweg

Good to get the season underway with a busy grid & some new faces. I particular I enjoyed the long battle with TinTin.
With Rainer having moved up to join the Works the Black Night Racing has drafted in Andreas to help retain the Privateers team championship. Good to see he has started the campaign with a podium.
One major incident on Lap 1 – left the Brabham spinning on its top until a following driver flipped me up the right way. GPL was rather kind & decided the car was OK & did not need a reset.
Just to clarify some of the discussion in Char – this series does allow one Shift R – followed by a compulsory Shift R.
Zeltweg next – good choice of track.

I think that should be Compulsory Stop n Go ;)

I think that should be Rainier

"Rainer" sounds German ...and it seems the Privateers championship could be dominated by Germans this season.
With the very fast Axel "Vettel" Cookie and the family Andreas "Michael S." Gebhardt and Florian "Ralf S." Gebhardt  ;D

I also hope Philippe Girard could have nice results this season (5th on the grid, that was good !)

Sorry David - I have a habit of mis-spelling.
It does seem that the Germans will be monopolising the front of the Privateers grid - hopefully we wont see any of this behaviour - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/10333211
{Apologies - nothing against Germans, but this is such a great story it deserves to be shared).

Don't forget Hendy and Sky, two very experienced 67 drivers! Not german...

I am still a rooky in 67s, doing my first FT season ;)
But Vettel could be my grandson!

Sorry, I couldn't do anything about the fire.

I started very quietly. I felt kind of safe, the only car behind me at the start being the distinguished moderator's Eagle ("distinguished" applies to the modo, of course). When I saw the vertical Billy Nobrakes' Brabby just after the speed trap, I suspected he might be missing more than just the brakes. So much for the modo making me safe. The contact was very civilized and I didn't even need a shift-R to keep going. As usual when I'm left behind early in a race, I fell asleep and woke up when Paul decided to lap me at the end to brag about it at dinner time, I guess.

Should I sue the modo for bring too agressive ?

LOL. I did lap you Pierre and was very happy to do so. So happy I immediately spun off and nearly lost the lap.... When I arrived at the carnage I was closing my eyes a bit but squeezed through. Billy soon had me for breakfast though...

first race missed.  ;D   :hang:
I go fifth on the grid, ;) but I miss the braking before the loop, I brake too hard, and I take a suppository. That's my fault. it happened on the 5th or 6th lap, I think. ::)
my car is found on the roof, and I did not want to "shift-r" to restart dead last!

Congratulations to the winner, at the podium and all finishers.

thank you paul for the organization.

The main feature of the race was long battle with Andrios,  Florian and Nigel for 3rd with a close encounter of the Axel kind after his  unfortunate engine demise and reset .
Florian got through with minor contact, Andrios was not so lucky , I got his share of luck having clobbered Axel big style and survived and I think Nigel was hiding somewhere in the dust .
This left me in a very comfortable P2 with not much to do except drive to the finish but  life was becoming very boring until a trip into the haybails woke me up with a bang , resumed in about 6th then a mistake by Nigel near the end got me 4th place . The podium could have gone to anyone I think as we seemed very evenly matched  ( except for the flying Sky and Axel of coarse ) just a matter of who did the least errors.
Good result from teamy Mike being close behind at one point until he fell back making this a good result for the Soggies  .

Grats to the podium Boys and all else who finished , commiserations to those who didnt .

Ok, bad points out of the way first. Apologies to Billy on lap 1, I closed rather suddenly onto his gearbox entering the Loop. GPL's meting out of damage is certainly not proportionate to blame, as I merely slowed even more and poor Billy did cartwheels [the show-off].Then I think Phil hit the debris, so I have my head held in shame for that one. Then on lap 4 I was chasing M. Girard out of the loop and drew alongside down the back straight. In hindsight I should have realised me couldn't have seen me in his mirror and as he swept into the Speedtrap we made contact- judges will no doubt take their time on that one- but I hope I didn't spoil your race too much Pierre?
The rest of the race was just a matter of settling and finding a rhythmn, something I found easier to do in the Cooper than my usual Honda. As I did I noticed my lap times tumbling, by at least a hundredth of a second per lap ;D, this middle section of the race saw Bernie having a determined try to take my position, but I suckered him into late braking into Big Bend which relieved the pressure somewhat.
Then 5 laps to go and I was only a hundred yards or so behind my teamie Paul. Now usually its pretty close between the two of us -draw whatever connotations you will from that- but here I was about to LAP HIM. A quick look at Prib to check for any threat from behind and...damn, it goes left here. But I didn't and smacked the bales at the Speed trap head on. Oh justice, the site of a previous misdemeanor. That not only left me no chance of taking 3rd-wishful thinking is a positive trait- but also let Bernie back into 4th. Oh what could have been :'(
Zeltweg next, and just have to tell myself that finishing without any big mistakes is IMPORTANT.
Great race, good fun and points- I'll have to make do with those for now.

It was a fun race, the maiden race here, as stated by Nobrakes (i think).
The start stressed me , i didn't want to do a mistake , and i left the grid too slowly. I was not prepared to start in this medium position. Rather happy for this qualif. time.

As said billy :
I enjoyed the long battle with TinTin.
it was a long battle (here the temperaure increased) , too near to francesco M. and M.Turner (after he went off track just in the last 10 laps).

No pb with the lapped drivers too.
Great satisfaction to complete this server . Thx a lot all .
See you soon for Zeltweg

Don´t worry Axel, but yeah, that was a scary moment. I could do nothing about it, it all happens so quick. Luckily my Shift-R worked and after my Stop and Go I still was able to get this last Podium-Place. I could not ask for more!  :)

So long
