Title: UKGPL Season 24 (2013) Sports Car Trophy - Monza - Jan 18
Post by: EvilClive on January 14, 2013, 10:25:00 AM +0000
This season we are trying something a little different for the closed wheel enthusiasts.

With the release of the 71 Can Am cars late last year UKGPL found itself with too many classes of cars for the number of evenings and servers available. So, to overcome that problem we are trying a combined championship with the GT’s and the Can Ams.

For the first season of this combined series we will keep it simple and use mostly Pappy tracks in a European Championship ( maybe next season we will do an American series and include Riverside etc).
The first round will be with GT cars at Monza  ( next week will be the Can Ams at the same circuit), so you get to compare the cars and lap times, but at least you will not need to learn new tracks.

The rules are simple….

You have a free choice of car for every race, BUT you cannot drive the same car twice. So if you take part in every round you will drive 5 different GT cars and 5 different Can Am cars.

You are allowed a single Shift-R  followed by a Stop’n’Go  which must be taken  within 1 lap.

All starts will be from a loose staggered  grid. There will be NO rolling starts this season, so please be careful .

The first race is at MONZA where speed is King, expect to see a grid full of muscle cars, but remember that whatever you use here you cannot use the same car again during this season.  So, check the list of tracks carefully before you decide.

Race List= IGOR
Server = UKGPL_8
IP Address = tba
Race date = 18-01-2013
Qualification Time   = ~20:45  UK time
Race Time   race starts at ~ 21:30 UK time
Track = Monza  (papy)
Variant = GT
Damage Model = Int
Race length = ~ 50 min -> 35 laps
Password = see above (#post_event_password)
Replay = you will get here (ftp://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/Replays/Archive/Season24/SportsCar/)

If there is free room for me, I will try to run in this series sometimes  :)

As there are new members since controversy first struck the GT mod at Ukgpl, I hope it's not overkill to remind racers that these GT's do not all start together, at the same instant, as the Chaparrals especially take a moment to start moving off the line, and precaution should be taken if starting just behind one and, "Blimey, where's the full stop!"  I refer to the previous sentence, and not the race start . . .  umm.  Might be a good idea to plan ahead, or better still, practice ahead.

I will not be racing, until finding another place to tap dance.  Grumble . . . grumble!  Please note : this illustration is not a tap dance!         :taz:

Flag dropped, engine popped... S'n'G then lonely pursuit but by the end I was up to 4th :) then I ran out of fuel on the last lap rolling to a stop about 200m from Parabolica ::) Oh well, all my own fault - failure to prepare = prepare to fail & all that!

Well done Nicky & bad luck Cookie.

Thx for congratulations. Indeed bad luck for Axel , as well for Clive.

Well did had some very scary situations over this race and without big portion of luck I would had never win the race.
Start was surprisingly untroubled , considering been in a ChapF2..
But ,to me warping/disappearing Clive in front , serves me first trouble. Decided to hang back a bit of the two frontrunners to be on save side. Unfortunately I had some uncontrolled drifting through Curva Grande at about lap 3, took me outa slipstream. But over the time I could close up back. Was lap 13 running down to Para , watchin Axel&Clive trying to lap a backmarker while both reach entry of Para.  You don’t had to been a fortune teller to know that’s critical , I thought  and ease of throttle. But Clive was rolling backwards after he hit the inner Armco….. well I didn’t expect him to spun anyway and watching replay, the way why& the fact that  he spun is real strange. His car was down to 67kmh, line still good. But then unexpected his car jumps 90^degrees to the right . Very strange and real bad luck.
Anyroads P2 then , but Cookie of about 16sec in front now, coz it took its while to grab my car outa Para sands…well pribluda sents me good news then..could close up to Axel couple of tenth a second per lap. But still no chance for me …till lap 22. Bad bad luck on Cookie; his engine died, so way free for P1.. But again I needed luck , as I really managed to spun at Lesmo2 on last lap. Jesus…
Lucky to end first so .
All in all an very exhausting race to me. These ChapF2 wasn’t friendly to drive under brakes.
But lots of power on exits. Big fun

I'm very sorry that I've rearended JonnyO (Mirage) during the 1st lap at Lesmo2 I was too much close to him to avoid the collision on braking.

I arrived at my girlfriend's home just 10 minutes before the green flag (loosing the qualifies) and I had to mount my drive wheel hoping that all will function, and in part it was so, except for my Lola T70's setup that I had already loaded on my Skydrive disk but at the moment to assign it to my Lola...it simply disappeared, so I had to reinvent a setup on the fly because some of you were already on the grid when I clicked on the green flag, and the result has been that I was at least 1.5 secs slower than expected in every lap. Not very bad though, because it has been a fun race anyway. Pity that I've burned my engine around 10 laps to go, so I had to reset and consequently make a S&G (I was in 3rd place when this happened) so my 5th place at the finish line is almost good.

Anyway my compliments to podium's guys and...to all the others :-)
