Request for standing starts in GTC. To me our single file rolling starts have always seemed a nonsense in the slower classses as I feel they not only string the field out from the very opening lap, but they seriously disadvantage drivers the further down the grid they are. At Brno, where I was third on grid, I was watching my XD laptimer and before even half a lap had been done the second half of the grid were 4+ seconds behind already! assuming there was no incident that caused that (or us top 3 being demon drivers ;) )How can that be fair in such a close competitive class? It's long been a gripe of mine and wondered how you other GTC drivers feel?
Not suggesting it for lairy LMP or gt1 but would definitely improve close racing in GTC like it does in our p&g events.
This is not for any advantage for me as I invariably lose places at a standing start  :-[ but it would improve the anticipation on the grid and close up the cars from the very start  :)

If you're after knowing others preferences, mine would be to stay with the safer rolling start that we currently use.
On top of that, I think it would likely lead to a couple of extra issues if some GTR2 races were rolling & others standing starts, I think they need to be one of the other.

But it also means, come the first corner we are all together. iR should teach why this is a bad idea. I'd rather see everyone actually finish the first lap than people crashing out, then rage-quitting. Our number need supporting as it is.

oh just me then  :-\  surprised that more arent put out at being anything upto7 secs behind the leaders after just a few corners due to the strung out warm up lap. Maybe thats the answer, use more discipline on the warm up and make sure everyone is glued together in a train rather than fannying about dropping back/speeding up etc.

I was going to say MJ, the issue is the start often not being executed properly. The UKgtr start is pretty tried and tested now. One of the main rules is to release the pit limiter when the car in front does, a concertina effect from the leader doing it on the S/F line, but people seem to wait until the line in my experience. They will also keep a 5 car gap after we have all slowed down, and like those b*****ds in queuing traffic on the road, it's annoying!

Indeed, people dont seem to realise you go when the person ahead goes, you dont have to wait for the line.

Well the car in front can't 'go' until it gets to the line so don't see how you can go any sooner! Unless you've hung back 5 metres!

And smart ass legzy, it was a 4sec gap to the lower end of the top 10, By the time that mutates down to 15th I expect they are easily 7+ secs behind!  Just seems wrong to me, always has no matter where in the order I am, in a class that's hard to gain even a second on a similar pace car.

To quote from the rules:

If somebody is leaving more than a car length to the car ahead, or delaying taking the limiter off (particularly until the line), they should be reported so that they can be reeducated.

I think what Spanner means is that we can go as soon as the car in front goes and not have to wait until we cross the s/f line. I believe that's what the rules say anyway.

I think a standing start in these races would be acceptable, especially as there always seems to be at least one incident on the formation lap anyway. But personally I'm not fussed either way.

I still get annoyed at people apparently falling asleep at traffic lights. Just why doesn't everyone go as soon as the lights go green  ::) we'd all get to work a lot quicker  :D

When you're 3 secs a lap slower than the fast guys it just means you'll get lapped a lap earlier ;) Until I killed my tyres I had a great race last weekend in the lower part of the pack with the other guys who had similar similar pace.
