Post by: Cookie on March 02, 2013, 11:32:09 PM +0000
UKGPL Season 24 - Pro Trophy - Race 4 Aintree

Back in the UK, home for some of us. Aintree Motor Racing Circuit is a 3-mile (4.83 km) motor racing circuit in the village of Aintree, Merseyside, England. The circuit is located within the famous Aintree Racecourse and used the same grandstands as horse racing. The circuit has hosted the Formula One British Grand Prix five times, in 1955, 1957, 1959, 1961 and 1962 and saw Stirling Moss’ first GP victory in 1955.

The Pro Drivers will have a free car choice. Drivers will have to remain in that chassis for the rest of the season, they will only be allowed to swap chassis in exceptional circumstances and only with the approval of the moderator.

There will be full moderation of lap one Red Zone and reported incidents for the rest of the race.
Please submit incident reports within a week after the race so that the moderators report may be out before the next race.
Full time drivers have priority access to the server until 21.00 UK time.
Please restrict your chat to a minimum!

The specific division rules for the Pro Trophy (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=391&theme=6) have changed as the INT division has been suspended.
Handicapping will be introduced from race three onwards and will only affect the top three drivers in the championship. The top three drivers may, at the moderator's discretion, be limited to a slower car. If handicapping is in action then handicapped drivers will be notified in the race post.

For this race no one will be handicapped as the frontrunners are close together.

Very disapointed but my own fault. Good, alright unbelievable, qually for me but spun it to last place by end of lap 1. That's why I put "can it last" on chat - answer no 'cos it rarely does  ;D . Thought, don't give up as based on qually I should be able to at least get in touch with the back of the field for the first time this season. I was gaining on the field when 2 obligingly spun so  got a couple of places back. In the end I overdid it & lost a wheel in the resultant crash. The good thing was I wasn't running last when it happened so to me that's a small encouragement.

First of all apologies Dean for T2 ...I might feel the wrath of the mods on that one...just did not see you move out for the pass  :-\
and to Natan for a nudge under braking, I thought I knew where you would brake after following you for a few laps, but you surprised me and I could not avoid just touching your gearbox.

It was a race of what might have been, but for 2 x 5 second screen blackouts.

The first happened after i was gifted the lead when Florian and Tristan tangled  at the last corner and left a lovely gap that I just glided through. I was able to maintain the gap back to them comfortably and things loooked good for a few laps. Then the gremlins woke up and threw a blanket over the screen. Lots of crunching noises as Lotus and fencing exchanged samples. When the lights came back on car still in one piece but I was now down in 6th place!!! >:(
Slowly reeled in a few cars and was up to 4th and chasing a distant Hristo. He went off at T" and I passed him for 3rd spot. But the gremlins did not like that so they threw the blanket again and I woke up on the grass but thankfully still intact.

Hristo recovered and sped away and I was resigned to a 4th spot ( actually very happy with 4th spot and the chance of finishing a race!!) when on the final lap I came across a smokey Tris on the straight and I sneaked a podium place.
Grats to all and apologies to those I offended against.

If you had noticed me, you might have avoided involvement in my accident which was already in progress (I got unsighted and totally blew past my normal brake point). I would have hit car-eating fence if you weren't there. Didn't even suffer any damage, but tires give no traction when you're upside down. :(

Grats on sticking around long enough to get a trophy.

One positive to take away: I think that's the first time I've ever out-qualified H in a straight fight.  ;D

Hi Guys.

EVIL!!!!!!

This post is for Evil. I know you have been having issues and I don't know all of the these but how old is your monitor? Mine gave me fits for over a year with sudden blackouts. I changed the capacitors on the power supply , cheaply, and no problems since.

Peace

RJ

It is strange that you mention the monitor RJ because that is an area that I feel might need investigating after last night.

Each time that I recovered from a blackout there was a small grey rectangle in the middle of the screen with "D-SUB" ( I think?) written across it. It quickly vanished as things returned to normal.

It is an HP 21" widescreen monitor and only about 18 months old, so I would not have expected it to fail just yet...but all things are possible.
The danger I face now is chasing all sorts of possible causes with the potential of doing more damage than I rectify!  lol

I still enjoyed last night, the first time for quite a while  ;)

I thought D SUB message refered to no video signal received  ? could be the monitor I suppose but more likely the Video card , OR the connection from this to your monitor , try giving the cable a wiggle and jiggle to see if you can resemble the fault  :)

Not being the most observant among us, it's only just dawned on me that all the fastest guys are in the Lotus (with the exception of Tris) & all the not-so-fast runners are in the slower chassis. No complaints about that as we have free chassis choice, but it does at least help explain to my tiny brain why the gap to the frontrunners had opened up so much this season! My race went OK, plenty of good fights in the midfield group & no major incidents but 7th was the best I could manage. Great track though - not sure I've ever raced it before. Congrats to Florian, Hristo & especially the perenially-discoed Evil ;)

Good point, Al. Considering we started as separate divisions, it makes little sense that after the merge the car choices remain so unbalanced, from competition point of view. Perhaps a reset of car choice before the next round for the Int drivers can make things better?

Decided to race rather than watch Utd unravel against Real and glad I did despite a mixed race with a dodgy engine of my own making.

Grats to the podium of Florian, Hristo and Clive. Apologies to the fast recovering Hristo. I had committed to the corner before I realised how far down my inside you were and it was not my intention to cut across you the way I did, my fault. I was relieved to see you escape. Despite a sick engine I still enjoyed the remainder of the race.

See you all at the next round.

Not sure which situation you mean, Ronnie, as I wasn't really aware who I was racing when. Was that you in that long right hander before the long straight, when there was a slight lag contact and you spun off? If yes, I was already committed down the inside so there was no more room to leave on the outside.

It was and any contact was completely down to me, sorry again.

No need to apologize, in fact it was more of a racing incident, because I didn't have full overlap with you, more like my front left with your rear right. I was actually amazed how you managed to brake so late into the corner and still turn in towards the apex!

That's 67s, not 65s (and there were three others ahead of me, too).
