Title: UKGPL Season 24 (2013) Privateers Trophy (67) - Imola - Mar 10
Post by: BadBlood on March 07, 2013, 09:40:13 PM +0000
UKGPL Season 24 Graduates Trophy for Privateers
Race 5 Imola

The fifth round of the season will be at Imola in Italy. The circuit is named after Ferrari's late founder Enzo and his son Dino who had died in the 1950s. Before Enzo Ferrari's death in 1988 it was called 'Autodromo Dino Ferrari'.  We will be using the track as it was inaugurated in 1953 when it had no chicanes, so the run from Rivazza all the way to Tosa, through the pits and the eventually notorious Tamburello was totally flat out, as was the run from Acque minerali all the way to Rivazza which is just a long straight with a few small bends.  The circuit remained in this configuration until 1972.

We will run Intermediate Damage with the allowance of ONE shift-R reset. No Shift-Rs are allowed in practice unless authorized by the moderator. A Shift-R (fault or not) MUST be followed by a Stop & Go. A Shift-R for tyres/fuel is not allowed. Any driver taking more then ONE Shift-R OR failing to take a Stop & Go will be disqualified from the race result.

The track can be downloaded from the link in the race list above.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be the full lap. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Privateers (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=388&theme=6) standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

It is really easy Bill. The tricky bit is staying on the track afterwards ;)

What happened tonight? I joined pre 9pm but GPL was showing the original GPL drivers' names rather than UKGPL drivers. I quit and tried to rejoin a few moments later but kept getting timed out.

The server was mistakenly started with AI drivers so Sky had to start a separate server.  Sorry for the confusion.

Sorry to Florian (and all else affected) for the start. Bit of wheelspin on cold tires and it jumped sideways on me.  :(

Where is it, what happened to it, which way did it go?  I was more than fast enough to catch it.  I was so close I could pretty much taste it!  So what does a podium taste like?  Well, spray some Champers on it and who cares, it was mine I tell you - it was stolen!

It all started well enough.  The birds were twittering, the Lotus sweetly singing.  Being a late Seasonal arrival without championship prospects, I'd been and thrown some tokens at the track, and had had a bash at the front runners.  A timely one I mean.  It worked, and 3rd on the grid suggested, I could clutch an easy podium finish.  Whats more, the Ferrari's ahead could suffer breakages.

Such dreams were quickly broken, as the leader threw a block on his wing man, at the 50 yard line.  And the entire field tried to get in on the action, with only my Lotus in the way!  After a lengthy flight, I was rather lucky to make a touch down while remaining intact.  So all was not lost, and after a lap I'd already fought back to 6th.  But sadly, the motor had sung it's last song, and thereupon expired - post flight trauma. :turned:

My podium was ebbing, and my sound was cut off.  Waiting to reset while everyone merrily flew by, my agitation became animation, and a flailing arm yanked the headphones soundly out of their socket!  I daresay, my improvised sound substitution sang less sweetly, and I'd lost another 10 or 15 seconds, before trundling into the pits to S & G.

With normality restored, and podium gone, the race ran it's coarse.  The 2 leaders were beyond my scope, but towards the end 3rd placed Cookie, was miraculously in my sights - a podium was still applausable!  Hence, pressing hard, an Armco casually bumped a front wheel, and a misfire commenced, along with a loss of handling.  Podium gone, except Florian from 2nd was gone, and I'd returned to podium material, once more, despite all!

Limping comfortably but lapped in third place, I'd one lap to complete to climb the third step, to glory.  And that's when the misfire grew worse.  "Grumble!"  But plenty of space behind, and still a suitable number of wheels remaining.  Then, rounding the final bend, the engine cuts out, it coasts to a stop near pit entrance, driver gets annoyed.

Lost - one podium, last seen prior to the finish line.  I suspect several drivers of stealing it.  >:(
