Title: UKGPL Season 24 (2013) Works Trophy (67) - Monaco - Apr 7
Post by: Phil Thornton on April 02, 2013, 11:21:35 PM +0100
Season 24 Works Trophy (67) - Round 6 - Monaco

For round 6 we visit Monaco; the most iconic venue on the calendar.  Synonymous with Formula 1 since the inaugural championship in 1950, the Monaco Grand Prix has been held in every season since 1955.  Despite massive increases in power and speed the track has remained on the calendar and whilst reliability is not the problem it once was, the race is still widely regarded as the one to win by the majority of the drivers and constructors.  It is very difficult to pass here so a good grid position is vital.  Please respect other drivers in qualifying and if you are on an outlap please move over to let the drivers on a flying lap have a clear run.

Race List = IGOR
Server = UKGPL_GPG
IP address = 62.195.2.111

Race Time = race starts at 21:30 UK time
Qualifying Time = Between 30 and 60 minutes, starting no later than 21:00 UK time
Track = Monaco
Variant = 67F1
Damage Model = PRO

Password: see above (#post_event_password)
Replays Available here (http://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/inc_replaysS24_js.aspx)
Driver lists and token rules can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=387&theme=6)
The track can be downloaded from : N/A
The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

The race will be run under PRO rules so no resets are allowed.

The chassis token system is explained on the Works standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=387&theme=6). Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start line to the exit of Tabac. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

Large hammer and pressure washer appears to have solved my connection issues.... I needed to make a hole in something called a "Firewall" to let the interweb thingies climb through and talk to IGOR.

They appear to be happily re-united, so I am hoping to float my inflatable dinghy into Monaco harbour and complete this race.

Not the best start to a race at Monaco  :-[ :-[ :-[

Hope you all avoided me and have a great race; good luck to the podium and whoever else survives.

Bad luck Ronnie. I saw your engine explode as you came off the line. It caused a couple of cars to jump over to my side of the track and I rear ended one but no major issues for either of us, and on we went.

I was just settling into a rythym and starting to think about attacking AndyL when I had a small moment and hit the barrier. IT wasn't much but it slowed me down enough that first Baab hit me from behind, and I think Fulvio didn't have anywhere to go and hit Baab, I hope neither of you sustained any damage, esp my team mate. We all continued, Baab first, and me holding off Fulvio to get to the hairpin before the S/F line first, but once round the corner my engine lasted to the line and no further.

Bugger

Started 2nd but soon succumbed to Clive who was looking very racy early on. After that had a race-long battle with Doni who was a couple of seconds behind but applying increasing pressure lap after lap. Great driving Doni. Once Clive retired ahead, I was back up to 2nd & it looked like, even if Doni caught & passed me the GPL gods would at the very least grant me my first 67 podium of the season... but alas 6 laps from home the engine let go. :death: Managed to drag the car to the finish with smoke billowing out but dropped several places on the way. Damn. Well done to Art, Doni & Baaaaaab.

Yeah, MotoGP rules ;D

It certainly does, tonight's race was epic IMO, good to see Rossi back in it.

Yeah sorry for the contact, couldn't avoid you after your incident.

Really pleased with my result (acknowledging a few notable absentees), 3rd was more than I expected (which was probably an early bath!).  Quite a lonely race when it settled doon.  The pace up-front was too much for me, I couldn't make inroads but I kept trying (and was lucky my car held on after several drifts into the barriers!).  Ronnie's engine letting go gave me plenty to think about at the start and I was glad I didn't hit anyone getting aroond him.  After I stoopidly lost it outta the final corner, (v schoolboy) I managed to pass a few cars and settled into 5th.  This became 3rd by the end due other's misfortune.

Grats to all finishers.

Bob.

Managed to finish even if I was lapped by the entire field (twice by Attilio).  Need to check GPLRA to find out where I am loosing the most time (probably everywhere).

Grats to Attilio on a well deserved win after a few races plagued with bad luck.

Not sure what happened to Clive.  Hope it wasn't the computer gremlins again.

Thanks Phil, yes I was due a lucky break in the second part of the season, glad I soldiered on! Cant say it was a thriller, as although the absence of our two (!) resident aliens gifted me an unexpected lead, I spent the entire race by myself, just keeping out of trouble, with early brakings and a generous lift before the dreaded killer chicane. Which doesn't necessarily mean a general slower race time around here  ;). Still, a Monaco win doesn't happen often, and this was my first time around here in the 67s, so wont be complaining  ;D. Only scare was a  half spin in very slow motion at the Casino somewhere during the first part of the race, but I didn't hit anything and the gap to second placed Al was fat enough to allow me a painless recovery with only a few secs lost. Grats to all finishers, and yes, very happy MotoGP is worth watching again  ;D ;D!

 :-\ >:( >:( >:( >:(

Yes!! it was another disco. But I forgot to turn off my AV, so it might not have been the gremlins this time. That does not make a disco any less frustrating  :-\

A shame really because I always enjoy the challenge of Monaco and the knife edge between success and total failure.

Arf's engine grenade off the grid was a little scary, but I was fortunate to be alongside and have a clear pass. The early laps were a little frustrating because I could see Art slowly edging away and Al was just quick enough to prevent me making any sort of passing attempt although I felt I was perhaps quicker on full tanks.

I was extremely fortunate to get past at the last hairpin after several laps, when I got my approach line somewhat askew from normal as the back stepped out under braking and I found myself very wide on the entry. Al went tight and ran just a little deep, so I was able to swing inside of him and take a tight exit with early power and make a clean pass.

Art had scuttled off into the distance by now and it took some very hairy laps to close the gap, but slowly his gearbox got bigger. But all that pace came at a cost and my rear left tyre was severely overheated. Once within range I tried to ease off, but I kind of lost my rhythm and found myself fighting the car and not flowing through the corners, which is a must at Monaco to get good lap times. I had just about got myself back under control (although I had lost a couple of seconds to Art by now) and was beginning to get the lap times down again when .................................DISCO!!!!
I guess I am getting used to it by now but it was great fun whilst it lasted.

Grats to Art for stunning pace up front, just wish I could have got on terms and made a dice of it for the second half of the race.

Arf's engine grenade off the grid was a little scary

? ....you do mean Ronnie's don't you? When an engine blows up off the grid, surely you've got to assume it is Art until proven otherwise  :laugh: :laugh: :laugh: :laugh: :laugh:

lololol yup! sorry Arf  :blink:

You were entirely innocent of throwing con-rods and whizzy bits across the track. I should have realised that it was an Art Artillery demonstration. ;D
