Gulf MkI?
Is that wrong?

Yes it is wrong. The normal Mk1 appears to be fast enough here. If someone would like
to put up some times for the cars I might make it the Gulf if it needs to be.

Good question.

Stig is usually Modena Man and I can't drive the 911 for toffee!

I shall try to give the GT40 and 906 a blast this weekend.

I missed my usual Friday night practice because I was out at a quiz, demonstrating my lack of knowledge of just about everything! :-[

Shame they didn't have a question like: Who were the UKPnG Season 6 & 7 Champions? (I reckon we'd all get that one ;))

At least they didn't have this question: Who will be the UKPnG Season 9 Champions? (I fear you might not like the answer to that one! :P :-*)

Hah!  Clearly Team Old Git have given up on Season 8 already!   :P

As for who will win season 9, the only possible correct and verifyable answer would be...........................Not Team Old Git!

Nah Clive. CSPs use hall sensors that work by detecting movement (magnets). They output via a pcb and I'm guessing this might be the problem this time. I've previously had a hall sensor fail which Fanatec replaced but the pedals are 2 years old now, so I'm not holding my breath for any support this time. Shocking really though when you consider they cost around £200  :o

Good news is I've hooked up my DFGT pedals, so will at least be ok to race  :)

My first race with you all was supposed to have been at Charade, but I had a CTD right before the race.

Hope you have a good race.

Well that's a relief!

With the exception of the GT40, in which I'm just too slow, I find all these cars a real struggle and not a lot of fun.

They all seem to have tyres that promise so much but don't deliver.  I suspect that the tyres are modelled to give a grip level and G-Forces that my poor little brain just cannot cope with whilst perched on a swivel chair.  I have the same problem with GTR2.

But I'm delighted that Legzy is even slower.  ;D

Ahhhhhh that's better, something Clive doesn't like  ;D

I rather enjoyed testing for this one, the GT40 is quite challenging, but I expect aliens to be very fast in it
I remember John? being unreasonably quick at our Monza event in the MK2 I think.
I like the Panty Modena best though, he is great fun round here. IMHO

The MkII is a horrible car to drive, so it's just as well that it isn't included here. I would say that 2:17s in the MkI would be very good, although I know someone who can do 2:14s :o

Strangely for me, I find the GT40 quite an enjoyable drive here. I do however think we'll all be flailing about on very worn tyres for the last few laps, which could make it interesting.

Was all about getting to the end really, pleased to come home in 5th (I think).
Congrats to Oldie Team mate Ed, obviously managed his tyres well & benefited towards the end of the race :thumbup1:

See you all at Zandvoort :)

LOL

I might have done better if a bloke in a pail blue shed hadn't rejoined just in front of me and then started faffing about under my feet! :P

I didn't like any of those cars either and my attempts to come up with a setup that compensated for this created something horrible.

You know you can correct the tyres after the results are posted. You have to set the right car, but it will alow you to get away with 'unknown' tyres.

I made more mistakes in this single race than in whole championship. First it was bad start, or let`s call that attempt of burnout, and drop from 2nd to 6th. Than misshift, than too late braking for penultimate corner ... all that i first few laps.

After that I was able to catch GT and Jarda having hard fight for last rostrum position, and decision was to wait and see. But Jarda made mistake so it was on me to defend honour of Porsche name against GT40.
Than mistake again!!! Just forgot that I have much later braking points and, when GT hit the brakes, he forced me to brake in a way that even modern Porsche don`t like so I ended in a fence.

But I didn`t gave up because I knew that he will run into tires problem and I was on hardest option - green spot tires. GT just have too much understeer in last few laps so I take advantage in last corner trying to keep momentum and outrun him to the first corner and that was it.

Did I mention that my dog was able to byte my foot only once in first few laps before deported from my ... errr ... study room ...

As predicted, an interesting race for me. Got to love the grunt of the GT40s which helped me keep ahead of faster competition here....until my tyres started to get the better of me. Good patience shown by Jarda and Ed as I was having to get very defensive at times, but after so many races in agile cars trying to pass lumbering tanks in the corners, it was nice to have it the other way.

Well done to Geoffers for another impressive drive. Us Kerbies continue to show our class as other teams are left to squabble it out beneath us  ;)

A solid but totally uneventful drive for me. I love the GT40 MkI (and Gulf) cars, so driving this was a no brainer. My single qualifying lap was a PB for me in this car at Brno, so I didn't bother carrying on! Qualified P4 on the grid, and managed to move up to P2 behind Geoffers. I knew that Geoffers would be using medium tyres for the race (it was the sensible option), so I expected to be able to just about keep up with him over the first few laps. That proved to be the case, and we both eased away from the pack behind. Geoffers very slowly increased his lead as the race progressed, and he wasn't making any mistakes. My Ws104 tyres (the slightly softer tyre of the two medium options) held up quite well, although it was getting a bit more slippery over the final few laps.

Overall I was pleased to finish in 2nd place. Well done to Geoffers for the solid win, and Animal Ed for recovering to take 3rd.

Did Nik blow his engine on lap 1?

Thanks to whoever did the results. I try to get the tyes right 1st time now, as people seem to notice and
remind me  ::)
I have gone back to change a car's tyres, but I usually forget which one it was...

There are several people with no flag next to their name. PPlease could you add your nationality to your profile
so it all looks nice and pretty?  Also , Jarda, as you seem to race with us often, could you register so you won't keep
coming up as "Guest Driver" Thanks.

Starting to get the measure of the Pantera now  ;D, it was a bit of a handful at Monza a few weeks ago, but a few setup tweeks made it quite driveable here. Also I only used 4 gears, with plenty of grunt from the motor it made driving the car easier & enabled me to stay in 2nd through all the ess-bends rather than be constantly going up & down between 2nd & 3rd.

Set a new PB in qually with the soft tyres, seemed to be worth a couple of seconds a lap but start to go off after just one flying lap & completely gone after 4 or 5! So used the medium tyres for the race.

Race went well, had Mogget for company for a few laps but gradually managed to ease away. Good pace in the GT40 there Mogg  :thumbup1:, I had to drive hard to get away. Tyres lasted quite well & only really lost grip in the last 5 laps by which time I had enough of a lead to not have to push them too hard. So very pleased with the result in a car that originally I didn't like too much.

Congrats to Mogget & Ed   & well done to GT in 4th & leading the points table & now putting the Kerbies ahead of the fading Soggies  :D.

PS: I notice that several drivers are not affiliated to a team. Us Kerb Crawlers & the Soggy Bottom Racers are quite well represented so maybe some would like to join one of the other teams & make it less of a two horse race for the teams competition.

wet bottoms or an affiliation with ladies of the night, then PM me and join the more respectable "Team PSEUDO"

Pseudo himself has not been around for some time now, our GTR2 series has a couple of top drivers, and my old
pal Phil Gilliland used to (and who knows may still yet) run in the GTL series, but we are not well represented in PG.

I agree.  All shore leave is cancelled.

It didn't help when my wife found the poling cards at 7:30 either!  I spent half the practice session going to vote!

The only way is up!

On a serious note, is there going to be something in the way my wheel is set up that is making life difficult?  These cars were rotating into a spin before I knew anything about it!  They were just not talking to me.  Would increasing FFB help?

Mind you, the desk took quite a battering as it was!

Manteos is the guru for this stuff. But, I set the steering angle to 15 degs for most cars with my G27
and that makes it mostly ok, for some cars (Pork mostly) I set it a bit lower - like 13 degs

Title: Re: UKPnG Season 8 Sports Car Series - Brno - May 2
Post by: Mogget on May 03, 2013, 02:04:16 PM +0100
It isn't just the steering angle that matters. It's also the "degrees of rotation" wheel setting. I generally set my G25 to 540/30. Apparently the more accurate figure for the rotation is 900, but that feels totally unnatural to me.

Clive, I presume you are using the PnG ffb which is activated by hitting the "Player" green button on the PnG launcher. This patches your ffb (and some other things) and only needs to be activated once. However if you then alter the ffb setting in-game (the one above the strength slider) it will overwrite some of those settings from the patch altering the ffb. If you want to change the ffb effects setting, use the plr file and change value of "FFB Effects Level"

Many seem to use high ffb levels (set by the slider) but I find this masks most of the subtle information you really need. If you're pulling the top off your desk, you have it set way too high. I find a light ffb of around 35% to 40% is enough depending on car....changing this value in game will not overwrite the ffb setting btw.

As for steering setup, personally I prefer around 700 deg of wheel rotation with anywhere between 23 and 30 steering angle in-game depending on car.

All this takes a bit of adjusting to but for me allows better control.

As for steering setup, personally I prefer around 700 deg of wheel rotation with anywhere between 23 and 30 steering angle in-game depending on car.

All this takes a bit of adjusting to but for me allows better control.

I thought that you may have had something there regarding the patch because I did have to reinstall PnG a couple of months back.  But I think that all is well.  Much happier in the Cobra at Zandvoort.   ;D

I use 700 degree rotation also, in accoradance with the Manteos guiidelines, but I'm not sure that it does anything for me.

I enjoyed my first race here. I chose the 911 mostly because I had not yet raced with it, and I am a fan of the #59 Brumos Porsche team with Hurley Haywood. I had just enough practice to dial as much understeer into the car as possible, and adjust gear ratios. The first few laps of the race were very nice. There were two other drivers that I was chasing down, but they both had bad luck at different times and gifted me 10th place.

I saw that Mogget asked about Nik - I think that he had side to side contact with someone on the first lap, and his Pantera caught fire. (but I did not see replay, just my memory)

Someone else suggested joining a team - I probably should wait a couple weeks to find out how often I will be able to compete.

On that note, I really hope to join you at the beaches of Zandvoort.

Thanks, Walter

Nik was tapped gently into a spin by Jarda (Who should have waited IMHO) and then was rammed by Massimo as he came over the brow, and went
up in flames. Not good driving guys  :nono:
