Any chance we could give the Coupes a run too?

The coupes were quicker in v2.

Don't know about v3.

In fairness, even in v2 they were pretty even on the twisty tracks. Not sure if Zandvoort would be even or not, would need a few people to test I guess?

Too busy messing up Brno to do that yet.

If we had the old '67 version of Zandvoort then the straight would be long enough to notice the advantage.

Can't remember this version.

I am away in Darkest Birmingham this week so can't test. If someone would like to do some testing at a secret location
in the MIdlands (or any where) then I will add the Coupes if they are no faster, but I will need more than one
person to verify.  :detective:

Post by: Mogget on May 01, 2013, 09:56:33 PM +0100
The normal Coupes are very slightly quicker (IMO) than the Roadsters, but the Willment Coupe is significantly quicker.

Title: Re: UKPnG Season 8 Limited Car Challenge - Zandvoort - May 9
Post by: phspok on May 02, 2013, 08:49:44 AM +0100
I am with Mogget, I think the coupes would be a bit faster, we usually ban the WIllment so that wouldn't be an issue
I would rig up a vote but I don't know how to in here. All in favour of coupes (non Willment) say "Aye"

I don't mind a couple of variations on a theme, though this is a "sort of" spec series so two cars is max for me.

Post by: Wiltshire Tony on May 02, 2013, 11:30:15 AM +0100
Just drop the coupes then. It was only a speculative request. Perhaps a single spec race with just the coupes could be arranged?

WIth you TOny. Sure the coupes will get a run out somewhere. One or the other is in other series anyway
depending on how they compare to other cars.

i find these cars great on this track. Only managed about 8 laps praccy so far but it feels great fun and should make for some very close racing. Tyre wear wasnt excessive, though i may look at a harder compound for the race (if ones available). Certainly not sluggish!
Not sure if i can make this weeks race yet, will check today.

You know, I would swear on oath that having something like xD installed makes people worry about tyre wear and engine performance a lot more than normal. I have never used xD (or anything like it) in five years of online racing, and I have never experienced any excessive problems with respect to tyre wear or engine damage. In fact, I haven't blown a single engine in a race during that time.

XD is a good tool. I had bad luck with the Team Broadspeed Mini Cooper 1275s #77 - The engine barely lasts 15 laps at Donington Park. But I will agree with you that XD is not needed, and it is more realistic not to have it.

The Mini is one of the cars that requires you to lift when changing up and to make sure that your downshifts are not too aggressive.  The Cobra, on the other hand is totally oblivious to the driver's malpractice.

I find XD useful to explain why the car has suddenly changed into a monster, rather than looking at it continuously to predict what will happen next.

Yeah because tracks always report the correct fuel needed DUH!

Add enough fuel for 3 laps (as reported in the setup menu), and test the car until it runs out of fuel. Multiply accordingly to calculate the fuel required for that particular race (plus a bit extra for comfort). Job done.

XD takes the guesswork/testing time out of fuel judgement, sometimes if the tyres are wearing front but not rear in prac I know to
give the race setup a bit more front grip as it will go away. It's not needed, but is usefull IMHO

The server will be set to the max of 28 on race night, only reason it's at 16 is because that's the default when the server
is restarted after other events.

Well was enjoying that, having a bit of a sophisticated squalble with Goldtop from the start... but during lap 5 or 6 everyone disappeared, then came back & quater of a lap later I was booted.

Pleased with mid-pack qually, having to learn car/track together & was bringing my race lap times down nicely too.

Ah well, next time :(

One of my favorite cars. First time for me to use the Cobra 289 in a league race I think. I had to learn the track, and I like it. I was behind Alex from the start. I was rear ended going into turn 1 on lap two, and was pushed sideways into Alex. Sorry about that, I was just along for the ride at that point. No damage was done to my car. I was able to get past Alex and Robert Beck (Robiker), and I finished 11th place. I couldn't be happier.

Thanks Phspok and to the admins and moderators for a great race. Congrats to John_W, Clive and Mogget for finishing on the podium.

Cheers!
Walt

Good race everyone - Especially Alex and Robert Beck. It looked like the three of us had about the same pace.

Very tough race and not a car that suits me at all. Had a bit of a bump from behind off the line which lost me a few places, but then settled into a nice battle with Legzy. Gained a place back when Ed ran wide and I followed Legzy through up the inside, then a few laps later Legzy disappeared and returned right in front of me giving me a bit of a shock  :o Did the same thing again a few secs later and I hit him and went off track, but just held onto my place as I rejoined  :sweatdrop:

I had a very close battle with Geoffers where I had to withstand a lot of pressure before he made an error and then a similar battle with Ed until he spun on the penultimate lap. Finally lucked into another place when MJ had a mishap leaving me in a better than expected 6th  :)

I spun because I was so annoyed when you pull "Schumacher" on me ... but that`s racing. Not easy to swallow that you need to lift off on home straight and start all over again from the other side ...

Anyway, not my car, not my race track so 8th place is OK for me.

Good race albeit hard hot and tough, wrestling these around for 40mins!

Qualied 6th or 7th and was pleased to set a 1:59 time just pipped at the end by GT.

Spent entire race in 6th place chasing alessandro hard for 19 of the 20 laps. On lap 19 frex in 4th had some kind of incident ahead and AT and me caught him into the twisty section. Alessandro braked wider than normal forcing me even wider to avoid hitting him. I got one wheel on the grass and It just span me round. Gutted as it allowed GT who was 5 secs behind to scamper past and nick my hard earned 6th place  :'(
Still, could have been worse, finished 7th.

Congrats to the fast podium, great pace.  :)

Not half as annoyed as when you punted me off track at the start Ed....losing me several places....and then later almost had me off into T1 when you hit me as I was battling with Legzy, which lost me more time.

I changed my line once, half way down the straight and kept my line into T1 and at no time did you have any of your car overlapping mine. I hardly call that a Schumacher move, but on this occasion I'll take it as a compliment  ;)

No need  to be offended (if you are) because I said that`s racing and I accept that.

... for other incidents: you were so slow off the line, I would pass you anyway but right before my move to the right, I saw in my mirrors someone with even better start then mine so to go in his way was not an option and my lift off was not enough  ... my mistake - apologies

... than your passing maneuver on me when "I run wide" to let my team mate go but not you with him ... didn`t count on yours elbows and almost finished in fence ( you choose much wider line despite having me on the left side almost giving me no choice to made that corner at all) ... that touch in T1 was payback (yes, I was also annoyed with that)

.. considering "Schumacher" or should I call that "Hamilton" (remeber the race when he pull that move on Alonso in Malaysia few years ago and And Alonso was penalised despite having no way to escape, but rules are rules no matter how stupid they are sometimes)  , yes , you changed line once but after my move and, if you didn`t notice, we had a touch so, yes, i had part of my car overlapping ... and that touch was main reason for my reaction besides fact that I hate defensive driving because it`s destruction of racing IMO.

You say that you are satisfied with your 6th place and I said that i`m ok with 8th so, shall we move on ... (what? No peace smiley or shake hands!!!!)
Well, peace my friend.

My usual sluggish start dropped me from P2 to P4, and I spent the next couple of laps looking for an opportunity to pass Geoffers. Finally made it, and headed off in pursuit of Clive. Caught him after a few more laps, and spent the rest of the race clamped to his tail. To be honest, we were closely matched for pace, and I was actually happy to be the one behind! It must have been hard work keeping me at bay for so many laps. I managed to get alongside him on the final lap at one point, but he had the inside line to the next corner, and he made a good job of "closing the door" as I tried to get past him around the outside ;) I could see that he was struggling with his tyres at the end, but it was still hard work trying to find an opportunity to overtake, and I really didn't want to spoil such a fantastic duel by hitting him off the track at the very end of the race.

Great stuff, Clive :thumbup1:

Well done to John for the solid win.

Yes, it was a good solid home race. First part dodging the spinning/sliding cars. No harm done Walter in T2. I ran into Robert and waited at T1 in one point in the race.
Then a F1-esque battle for tenths of seconds ensued. Really cool. Don't forget Massimo with his Italian flair on the track  ;D .
Even managed to hold the admin behind  ;) and didn't lose a lap.

From my point of view clear racing so thanks to my competitors.

Congrats to John.. I'm beginning to think that he is in fact that Hututu guy from Finland...

Good 1st half of the race for me, was having another good scrap with Jarda, then as the tyres went off so did my car.
Ended the race trying to catch Alex but couldn't  :'(  Good run Alex.

Guys, a point:

If you have an issue with someone's driving then this is not the place for deep discussion.
Either put in an incident report, or send the other guy a PM and make your point that way
or just make light of it in this forum.   Multo Grassy ass.

The Italians (other than Allesandro and Massimo) have a Thursday night league maybe
every other Thursday, and Matteo is without wheel still I think....  :(

Couldn't have been me. Didn't have contact with any other cars.
After Walter passed me, I couldn't quite match his pace. Well done Walter.
I'm adding Zandvoort to my list of least favorite tracks.

I had a great race.   ;D

In qually, I never seem to be able to repeat on-line the sort of laps that I have managed in training sessions.  With a JW Time Trial lap of 1:56.9 to chase, I had managed a 1:57.3 but sadly had to give best to Mogget for second on the grid.

Thankfully Mogget’s starts resemble those of a ruptured duck,  :scooter: so I was able to nip past him off the line and had the option to get brave around the outside of John too.  I decided to pass on that one.   ::)

My start made my race and thankfully Geoffers slotted in behind me, giving Mogget someone else to bother before he got to me.

There were some places in the lap where I was trying really hard not to cook the tyres, even when Mogget was closing in on me, as I was hopeful that I would be rewarded over the last few laps.

After about five laps I had Mogget for company and as he has said that lasted for most of the race.  He had a spin at the hairpin which I thought might indicate that his tyres were shot but no such luck, he was soon back on my case.

I was safe so long as I achieved a clean exit from the corners but when the tyres gave in, I was having to lift at some points to stop myself from rotating.  Thankfully I managed a clean exit from the last corner on most laps and hit most of my braking points.

Congratulations to John on a fine drive and likewise to Mogget for a clean battle.  Don’t think we actually touched once.

A thoroughly soggy result!   ;D

Also many thanks to Alex for the report.

thanks to Matt for coming up with a race where I didn't have to decide which car I was going to use and also for making it one of my favourites.  :thumbup2:

... for other incidents: you were so slow off the line, I would pass you anyway but right before my move to the right, I saw in my mirrors someone with even better start then mine so to go in his way was not an option and my lift off was not enough  ... my mistake - apologies

... than your passing maneuver on me when "I run wide" to let my team mate go but not you with him ... didn`t count on yours elbows and almost finished in fence ( you choose much wider line despite having me on the left side almost giving me no choice to made that corner at all) ... that touch in T1 was payback (yes, I was also annoyed with that)

.. considering "Schumacher" or should I call that "Hamilton" (remeber the race when he pull that move on Alonso in Malaysia few years ago and And Alonso was penalised despite having no way to escape, but rules are rules no matter how stupid they are sometimes)  , yes , you changed line once but after my move and, if you didn`t notice, we had a touch so, yes, i had part of my car overlapping ... and that touch was main reason for my reaction besides fact that I hate defensive driving because it`s destruction of racing IMO.

You say that you are satisfied with your 6th place and I said that i`m ok with 8th so, shall we move on ... (what? No peace smiley or shake hands!!!!)
Well, peace my friend.

Fair enough Ed, I'm sure our usual good behaviour and manners will return for the next race   And yes I agree, we could certainly use a smiley handshake here  ;)

Not one of my better races, but it was pretty entertaining :)

Nipped into 3rd at the start when Mogget was slow away, but immediately realised I was not fast enough to stay with John & Clive. Mogget was soon all over my bootlid & when he shaped up to make a pass I gave him plenty of room, hoping he would drag me along & up to Clive. Didn't work though, as a couple of laps later I spun off!  ::)

Rejoined behind Ed & had trouble trying to find a way past until he went off, avoiding Legzy's frozen car I think. Now had GT ahead of me & I again could not find a way past. My problem seemed to be getting off the corners, I was fast mid-corner but was getting left behind on acceleration. Several times I got a good run through the last corner but was unable to get alongside GT's car on the straight. Need a setup rethink I reckon! Good fun though GT. :thumbup1:

Anyway another late spin left me down in 9th at the finish, not quite where I hoped to end up!

Congrats to John, Clive & Mogget.
