Post by: BadBlood on May 30, 2013, 10:18:57 AM +0100
UKGPL Season 24 Graduates Trophy for Privateers
Race 10 Brands Hatch

For the final round it is back to Blighty and as per usual I will nick Phil's track into... after all, F1 is trying to be 'green' and this is recycling at its finest!

For the last round we hop over the channel to Kent, the "Garden of England" and the home of Brands Hatch.  The British Grand Prix has been held at Brands Hatch on 12 occasions and the European Grand Prix has been held there twice.  The 1966 Grand Prix was won by Jack Brabham and the 1968 race by Jo Siffert driving a Brabham Repco BT19 and a Lotus-Cosworth 49B respectively.  There have also been numerous non-championship Formula 1 races most noteably the Race of Champions in 1967 which was won by Dan Gurney in the Eagle-Weslake T1G.

The track is particularly appropriate for Grand Prix Legends as it was widely used by Formula 1 cars in the 1960s.

We will run Intermediate Damage with the allowance of ONE shift-R reset. No Shift-Rs are allowed in practice unless authorized by the moderator. A Shift-R (fault or not) MUST be followed by a Stop & Go. A Shift-R for tyres/fuel is not allowed. Any driver taking more then ONE Shift-R OR failing to take a Stop & Go will be disqualified from the race result.

Driver lists and token rules can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=388&theme=6)

The track can be downloaded from the link in the race list above.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be the first lap to the exit of Beauval. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Privateers (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=388&theme=6) standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

I also could not race tonight...

Took a couple of spins last night & clearly was going to be lagging somewhat,   at least the cars seemed somewhat controllable.
But there must have been a greasy downpour overnight.

Tough out there & close.  Too close at times - what with the resulting contact(s)  :(

Despite being the last day of term & we now break up for summer - I think the mods will be busy.
So apologies for just being there at the same time,  although I know it can be seen as a feeble through-away line. However,  I have tried to not be a bloody liability out there.

Overall event was tough.  Haven't seen the replay yet,  so don't know what happened to the teamies - but unucky lads.

Cheers all,
Dave.

Finally managed not to blow my engine - although I did lose one in qually  ;D

Apart from the start line shenanigans (which IS going to keep me busy). It wasn't too bad. Kept it on the black stuff although I did have one spin and one off just before the bridge and I did remember my stop this time (unlike some... no names, no pack drill...). My one and only reset was forced on me when Nigel and Michael helped me discover that three abreast and a spinner isn't a great combination - lol. I was slow but steady and then had a nice close lap with Billy at the end (although it was after the flag I think but I wasn't sure, so I was trying. Not sure Bill was though.

Best drive of the season for me. I have never enjoyed Brands but although it was pretty lonely, it was surprisingly good fun but I had to concentrate 110%... Think I might pick up a place or two in modding though...  :o

WD to Dean for a convincing season... and goodbye Works boy!

Like Paul I quite enjoyed this race. Very few laps when I was not involved in a battle for places.
Well done to my Black Night team members for wrapping up the team championship. Certainly no team orders tonight & offer two a partial apologies to Andreas. First on the start line - your braking caught me out & I couldn't stop in time. Secondly - about lap 25 - you span through Druids & I thought there was space to get past on the outside.
Shortly after I was in 4th (could have been my best finish this season) when the engine went pop. SnG left me down in 7th - wasn't sure which was the final lap & as Badblood was hot on my tail I did an extra lap.
Congratulations to Dean for winning the Championship.
When does season 25 start?

After a disappointing outing on Friday, thanks to a careless argument with the landscape, I took sufficient time to sort a setup, that would see Australia's finest through to the end, on home turf.  Umm . . . the driver's home turf.  The results were better than expected!

Two wheels on the grass, around the outside of Paddock Bend on lap 1, is not to be recommended, and I lost one of the places made up leaving the grid.  But this gave me a front row seat, for a tremendous battle between Francesco, and Dave over 4th place. Fran was holding a defensive line, while Dave's Lotus could challenge at the end of each long straight.  Their battle raged for 10 laps, before Dave finally squeezed alongside heading past the pits.  I could see what was coming next, but nonetheless became the victim of their mobile roadblock.  ::)  Not sure how we all emerged battered, but unscathed, but soon after I'd somehow jumped from 6th, to 3rd place.

Leaping back in time, I was fortunate enough to see these GPL races at Brands Hatch, when they were new, real and actual, back in the 1960's.  It was typical of those cars to gradually spread out, except for a group or two, less sure of their correct positions.  Squabbles were often decided entering Paddock bend, or Druids.  The first half of our race was strikingly similar.  And I think we're closer to experiencing the 'real deal', than some of us realize.  It all looks quite familiar from trackside.  Except things then became a bit too striking - possibly because the Ambulance to the hospital, is not simulated!

Anyway, my Brabham continued to perform beautifully, and with a clear road ahead, it was just a matter of using the grey matter, and avoiding the green stuff to the finish line.:D  Looks like the midfield battles raged all the way to the end.

Sooner than you might think! I'll be posting up an announcement next week, all being well.

...

Fully accepted, teammate. After the start I thought I have to make a shift-r, but the Cooper seems to be a strong car. Looks like no damage after that shunt. After a while I was once again chasing and hunting for Mr. Hunt. But this time again he was faster then me. After a while I lost a bit of concentration and later I found someone standing on the middle of the track at dingeldell. Could not avoid the collision and lost a wheel therefor. After the StopandGo there was no better than sixth place for me. But after all it´s ok and I finished fourth again in the championship. So I am looking forward to the next season!
So long
