UKGPL Season 24 Extra Trophy (69X)
Race 10 Interlagos

Welcome to the final round of the Extra Trophy for 69 Extras. This post is for both the Light & the Heavy Divisions.

Round ten and perhaps the last chance to try the 69 Extra in a championship race for a season or two. We are off to the Interlagos circuit in Sao Paulo, Brazil. A twisty track with a variety of tight of & fast corners and a couple of (not-so) 'straights'. Literally 'between the lakes', Interlagos is unusual in running anti-clockwise. This demands a different set up and it can be hard to get the balance between control and speed.

Often used for the last race of the F1 season, Interlagos has been the scene of triumph and disaster. Which of those will the UKGPL boys see?

The first lap will be fully moderated within the red zone. The red zone will be to the exit of Costovelo.

It is very important that drivers are FULLY familiar with the rules relating to Shift-R. ONLY ONE IS ALLOWED and a Shift-R MUST be followed by a Stop-and-Go or the driver will be excluded. Any driver taking multiple resets will be excluded.

We will race on ONE server for this race as turnouts in the HEAVY category have declined to the point where an additional server is not justified.

As there is no other league racing this weekend I will make a very late entrance to 69X - looks like you could use another body in the Heavies.
Assume no chassis restriction - in which case I will take the Brabham.

Francesco and me have the same total of points 286, but Fran has to remove his worst result (21 pts) and I have nothing to remove.
So if the win is for Fran, I have to finish at a better position than 5th to become the Heavy Champion.

Running with the Lights will be more complicated to manage the race and the risk of accident is higher ..., so everything can happen!

Since there are usually only five or so entrants for the Haevies David, I think you are pretty safe... don't want to see any Schumacher moments with you 'accidentally' putting Fran out ;)

top tip: dont take your pedals apart, apply hoover and wd40 in an attempt to fix/clean them. They will never work again. dagnamit  ::)

Alain Prost's feat is in fact probably unrepeatable. Shoving off the track your opposition and having them unjustifiably disqualified in the same race is an artwork in itself. And how about the illusionist trick of having almost the  entire field of onlookers not noticing/forgetting about it...? Genius, that's the word ;D

Well, he managed to pull that one off only once, luckily.. ;). I have nothing against Prost, I just meant to say that many (most?) of the drivers have gone well beyond the limits of whats considered sporty behaviour, on and off the track, but only some episodes end up being remembered. As for who started what, we are only distant spectators, the full story is well beyond our reach I think..

Guys, I cant see the password for tonight's race, is it just me?

Prost started it at Imola 89. Everyone only remembers the 2nd start, after Berger's crash, but Senna kept the lead during the 1st start and thus respected the agreement between the two. What Prost did during the season since then was to constantly complain and whine about everything and everyone, and then the ugly outcome of the Japanese GP. Senna was the much quicker driver during the 89 season and only mechanical failures kept Prost in the lead. There wasn't a single race that year where Prost beat Senna on pure performance.

I respect Prost as a driver, but you only have to read some insights from team members at the time (there was a very detailed material on that, but can't recall where I read/watched it), both in McLaren and later at Ferrari (which he was fired from), to see how his antics ruined the team's atmosphere.

Screen freeze...

I ravaged the engine during qually, and it waited half way through lap 1 in  the race to go..And that's bad already. A few laps later, after a solid amount of clashes, screen freeze. Love this game, no really..Grats to winner and podium, somehow relieved this series is over, gave me more aggro than anything, although I still love the mod.

Had the same issue in Qually - I think both at the Laranja corner. Can you chaps remember where? Might be a track problem.
Shame about the race as I was having a good battle with team mate Rainier - which does not happen that often.
Shame if the track has a fault. Whilst I really struggle to find the best wing setting with the 69 mod  I do quite like Interlagos.

Hmm - did three laps and then quit as I had really bad motion sickness. Sometimes get the same at Nurby... End of a LONG season for me. Can't make Tuesday as I will be in a train between York and London.

I've raced the track a couple of times in the past and it seemed OK, so it's odd that so many had a freeze. Mine happened after the exit off T4, the second of the two left handers.

It was a shame that several guys suffered a disco.
 I wondered what had happened to the Hristo when he suddenly left the race.

But, what a race!! I was feeling a little tired after work and considered staying slumped in front of the TV, but I am glad that I made the effort to drag myself to the PC.

I spent qually tring to get the setup to work on the Mclaren and was more than a little disappointed to see the lap times of the front runners....I was some way off the pace even allowing for race fuel.

10th on the grid was not ideal but several cars decided to throw themselves at the scenery and I moved up a couple of places. Others appeared to blow engines  and then a few discos and before I knew it I was running in 4th place behind Tristan. My bad luck that he got all sideways out of one of the corners and I avoided hitting him by running onto the grass and immediately found myself back in 10th spot!!! :-\
Again I closed on cars and passed a few who were grass cutting or testing the barriers until I caught Axel in 2nd spot ( soon to become the leader when H retired). I was quicker than Axel when I had a clear track but I could not make my advantage work and slowly Fulvio cruised up behind us. A mistake allowed Fulvio to pass me and Tristan too. I think Tris blew his engine and I was back onto Fulvio's tailpipes.
Fulvio made an error and I was back up to 2nd place .....then Axel ran wide and I was in the lead. All I had to do was keep it smooth........... lol so I outbraked myself and went wide to allow Fulvio back into the lead again.
The rest of the race was a great battle between Fulvio and his Brabham and my Mclaren. Lap after lap I tried to press Fulvio for a small mistake so that I could pass, but he resisted everything I tried. On the last lap I tried to get inside at the tight right hander just before the last fast section but overcooked it and Fulvio kept his win.

A great race Fulvio, I really enjoyed the fun .

Sorry about the delay. The import was REALLY mucked up. Still only took me two hours to edit :(

End of the season for me. I think I will have a lie down...
