Season 25 Works Trophy, Round 2, Adelaide

Welcome to the second round in the premier division of the premier class in UKGPL for the continuation of our twenty fifth season. We stay south of the Equator and move East to South Australia and Adelaide. An interesting circuit and tough in the 67's.

The 3.780 km (2.349 mi) long "Grand Prix" version of this temporary street track hosted eleven Formula One Australian Grand Prix events from 1985 to 1995, as well as an American Le Mans Series endurance race on New Year's Eve in 2000 (Race of a Thousand Years). This was the last race to be held on the long form of the circuit.

As always, we will run Pro Damage, so resets are not allowed.

Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=4016&theme=6)

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be the full lap. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Works (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=401&theme=6) standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Sorry to see Arf caught up in my misfortune  :( .  Brab didn't want to turn into T1 like it had in practice, first trip across kerbing went OK, second time not so much.  :'(

S25 is really building up to be fun. Not.

2 races, taken out twice by drivers out of control. This time it was Dean who doesn't seem to be able to take T1. He lost it on L2 (I think) but was lucky to survive a trip over those ridiculously large kerbs. However the next lap he lost it properly, and even though I went wide his car managed to clip me and remove my back wheel...

I'm only glad I decided to take the Honda at the last minute over the Brabham, so that's 7 tokens saved for later in the season.

Oh, and I can watch MotoGP too now...

I was rear ended by Doni, and my Cooper was pushed on Bart' s car !
Both (Bart and me), we had to retire ...
Great move, Doni !

Incredible the number of cars with accident, out of the track etc. during the 2 or 3 laps where I had the chance to race ...now, I would prefer to finish the season with the Privateers, it seems they are better drivers !

Managed to pick up a few places in the early laps thanks to a few shunts (submit incident reports please) and found myself in about 6th place with most of the race still to run.  Then had a couple of nice battles with Andy and Doni.  I was following Andy and trying to put him under pressure; he cracked and spun and I was through.  Then for about 15 laps I had Doni on my tail.  I tried to get good exits out of the corners and rely on my Ferrari power to keep enough of a gap on the straights.  The strategy was working well until I made a mess of T1 and Doni managed to outbrake me at T2 and he was through.  I had to up my pace to try to stay with him and hope he made a mistake.  Thankfully he outbraked himself at the end of the long straight and I managed to get along side on the outside of the twisty bits and I think we were side by side through most of it until the last turn when I had the inside line and I was through.  I got a bit carried away after that and I outbraked myself into T1 and Doni was through again.  I pushed hard on the last lap (too hard in fact I spun) but I wasn't going to get another chance, Doni was too far ahead.  Great racing, clean and fair as it should be :)

A great race that, glad to be back. The Cooper was a treat to drive around Adelaide. I managed a very consistent run in qualifying with no spins and grabbing Pole was a pleasant suprise. Sadly I couldn't replicate that form in the race and an error-strewn race meant I dropped to 4th behind Fulvio, Clive and Tom. That became a lucky 3rd when Clive disconnected with a few laps to go.

Congrats to Fulvio and Tom for consistent races. I'll be in Germany in a couple of weeks so sadly will have to miss Zandvoort but I'm hoping to be able to attend most races in the second half of the season. See you soon guys, it was a pleasure  :).

Excuse No 217b/967

"The heat in Adelaide was so great that the sweat ran off my body and got onto the rear tyres causing me to lose braking into the chicane.  As a result I hit the kerb almost sideways and after a barrel roll which poured a huge amount of sweat out of the cockpit I landed upon my head."

Partly true....I was extremely hot and uncomfortable, but actually I think I had damaged the right rear suspension somewhere earlier ( probably when I skimmed along the wall out of the Esses at T1) because the tyre temps on that one wheel were running at around 330F!! by about lap 15.

I was surprised that my times in the Brab were competitive as it just felt so slow. It seemed to take an age to slow down and I just could not get on the power as soon as I wanted to without risking a spin  :-\, but it seems that I was about as fast as anyone else.

I got lucky in the early laps and inherited 2nd spot as others ran wide. Then I recognised a familiar rear end and followed Samb for a few laps ( obviously lost none of his pace in that Cooper!!) eventually pressuring him into an error that allowed me a clean escape. But then Fulvio appeared in my mirrors and refused to go away hounding me for lap after lap until I think he made a small error and I relaxed...bad idea!! stopped concentrating and managed a stupid spin!! Fulvio swept past and took the lead.

I chased down the gap to Fulvio, but it was about this time that the problem with the rear tyre started to manifest itself and the rear end of the car seemed intent on passing the front at every opportunity no matter how careful I was. Another half spin dropped me back and I was probably driving too hard with a damaged car when I lost the rear into the T1 chicane.

grats to Fulvio who was quick and to the podium people and of course to all those who finished.

Thx Clive, now I know that you weren't discoed so I'm more proud of my win  :)
I started qualy with a GH Rouen setup with 60/60/1 diff that was very difficult to drive, then some click to ARB to reduce oversteering and the beast became more driveable for me. Anyway I learned to drive with an egg under the throttle out of slow turns and it payed. I was quite surprised to see you going wide at last turn and I wasn't comfortable with you close behind after that. The hot and the effort were high and at the end I was completely wet.
Ciao

Grats, Fulvio!  Super drive.

Well done to both Tom & Sam for scoring podiums!  Take a bow.

Dave & Bart: Sorry, gys.  My bad.  I was a little confused as to what exactly was taking place up ahead of me.  The red car(your Cooper, Dave)slowing dramatically and dragging Bart's Brabham down with you to the point he almost hit you.  I thought that one or the other of you was in trouble.  I swept to the left and thought I'd make a cinch pass but mis-judged and drilled the Cooper's LR.  I got away with a simple spin.  No justice.  Sorry, again.

Phil: That was the most sim racing fun I've had in a long, long time, mate.  It's events such as this that can keep a body coming back in the off-chance that a great battle like that can occur.  Almost 20 laps of nose-to-tail running with very little to judge between us.  That side-by-side jockeying coming off the hairpin was breath-taking!  Bad luck for you in that spin.  Take solice in the fact that you scored a fastest lap better than I and that you shaved something like 2-1/2 seconds off your qualifying time.  BALLS TO THE WALL!!!   :)

Yes it was great fun ;D.  The spin was down to the pressure you put me under!!  I had to drive at my absolute limit to compete with you but we both managed to keep it clean and not take silly risks.  Grats on some great racing.

Yes, it certainly was top hole stuff, Phil.  But please, allow me to make one small correction re your comment that I 'outbraked' myself setting up the side-by-side.  In fact, I was quite under control in the braking zone but as we got very near the corner, I picked up your image in my left-side mirror and I thought that you were going to hit me.  This impression was more out of the corner of my eye than a direct POV glance.  I very slightly adjusted my trajectory into the corner in hopes of avoiding a collision by giving you more room on the left.  Trying to change direction, however slightly, while braking hard is chancy at best but I did manage to hold on.  I went slightly sideways and wide of the apex to set up our little drag race.

Moderation has been posted and I fully accept my responsibility for the shunt involving Dave & Bart.  Once again, my profuse apologies to both.
