OMG  :o

This track is tricky in slow cars, gonna be bonkers in these things!  ;D

Chortle
We have run here a couple of times in the past, possibly in GTL, the fast cars (that you can control) are a great ride here
people tend to go faster than they should, and bend their cars. but a carefull driver will be in the Vanguard
(Or a Riley perhaps.)
Still need some other cars to mix it. One of the Panties will probably fit, maybe a 911 variant, a fast Vette?
PM me some times if you get chance do a few laps in different cars?  :thumbup1:

Two cars added. Panty BOSS is fast but tricky as it want to slide everywhere, The Vette is a nutter car, potentially fastest, but a handfull.

this track will be mayhem in these cars! It's fun to actually string a good lap together, but with lots of chaps around struggling to keep their feet down and their cars pointing in the right direction on a narrow track lined with hard bits of scenery ...

I've driven all of the cars now. As usual, I can't drive big American cars, no luck in the GT40 (understeers everywhere) and the Corvette (oversteers until it understeers). The Pantera feels good until you look at the lap times. Porsche feels twitchy but is fast if driven with a light touch. I will stick with the Porsche.

Not that it matters, given that I'll most likely crash out on lap 1. At least I'll be back racing!

Well we had 13 starters and 2 finishers last time we were here in PnG  A bit of caution on the opening laps and especially that first hairpin I reckon ;)

Glad there's some pork on the menu or I'd be struggling :tank:

Yep. THIS IS A CAR BREAKER
Ok  ;)

This track is always a test of patience, remain calm and you will finish, unless you are a victim of someone else's
tragedy, and..... you can stack the odds in your favour by not sticking your nose where it might get bent
and try to keep out of trouble, it is nowhere like as much of a crash fest as the Green Hell.
For me the GT40 is an "easy more likely to finish" option. Don't take the Vette unless you are really comfy with it
and the Panty is probably faster than the GT40 but is very slidey.

If you crash out, it's probably goint to be your fault. Take special care to not get tangled up with a mess
as stated particularly at the hairpin lap 1, please be cautious there, if someone does a banzai charge up the inside
let them, and then carefully drive around the carnage they will create  ::)

I found this track  great fun in these cars, the nearby scenery wizzes past, it great stuff. do some practice
and avoid the lamp posts etc, and will be an exhilerating event

We could always do a rolling start for a change like the GTR2 chaps do...

Thats a good idea, eliminate some of the grid before the race starts!!!!. Seriously that may be a good idea as it will spread the field out a bit before the opening corners & give everyone a bit more room.

Don't see the point in doing a full blown UKGTR style formation start as everyone will still arrive at the hairpin full tilt. Also there is no pit limiter to control the pace over the line as we do in UKGTR.

If we don't fancy a standing start, maybe just have formation start up to exit of first hairpin as that might limit any potential for mayhem.

Not fussed either way  :-\

formation, or even single file - same situation as in F1 when the safety car has pulled away and the leader controls the pace. No overtaking until after hairpin, after that the race is on.  On the other hand, that requires everybody to be aware of the rule which cannot be guaranteed

I have no problem with a standing start and think that we should resist the temptation to mess about with things.

The track is beautiful, to look at, and I am having great fun sliding the big Vette about whilst I have the track to myself.  I don't think that the track is any good for racing and suspect that that the Vette is beyond my capabilities once you throw in a few Porsches, all trying to climb into its door pockets on the way into any corner.

Then don't take it.

It's a great track for racing if people behave themselves and respect it.
I have had some great races here. Keep dissing it and you will frighten everyone away.
Have to say I am rapidly losing interest in this job.

LOL

You are doing a great job Matt but, even to cheer you up, I can't say that this is a good track for racing.  It's a good track for waiting for the bloke in front to hit something solid.  And then hope that you can miss the debris.

My dilemma with the Vette is that I prefer it over the GT40, on the first half of the lap but after the hairpin at the end of the back straight I prefer the GT40.

Visually, the track is better than a trip to the Adriatic as I don't need to get on a plane or drive for miles.

Chortle.  ::)

Have you done more than one lap in the Panty? it is pretty quick, more friendly than the Vette, but does want to slide around everywhere
I accept it's not the easiest track for racing, but it has produced some interesting races in the past, and... it gives people who
take it a bit cautious a chance to score some points while the hot shoes end up in the harbour.

2:07 with 906 e (for me safest to drive because of adjustable toe in/out) but 906/8 can do 2:05`s if you know when and where to back off.
Those are fastest times, safe time (race pace) is about one second slower for me.

could we try to use another server to join the race?
i could try to up a server tonight and look how many drivers can drive together!
the last race i did this big mistake......but this time we could have the time of trying ,  i think so  :D

usually my connection is good, (i'm driving from italy, and  my ping is good during the race.)

but sometimes something goes wrong....and this happend only driving on your server. this is very strange.

maybe u favor only English local driver!  ;D i'm joking!

I think I skip this one - after I solved my graphical issue (it's my machine) I had
to learn that I would need too much practice in order to be halfway competitive
on this track in any of these cars.

Sorry Clive for the barrier - due to graphical issues I had all windows black ???????

Have fun guys

I will have to learn the track during qualifying, because I have not had any time for practice all week. I have been too busy with an FSX airfield scenery upgrade project. I can usually work tracks out very quickly, but I will just have to see how effective that tactic is in a GT40 ;D

The Preluk practice server has been running on our "official" one so far. Mine was doing Lakeside
I will kill the official one tonight (please don't restart it Tony)   ;)  and use mine again, it worked perfectly
last week, see what happens tonight. There are too many people being consistently discoed from our official one
at the moment.

during the practice....there was no handling with my car.

but, after many laps, i unterstood the difficult corners and i began to have good pace.
6 position in grid.

very long chases with other gentleman drivers. and very very funny.

Nice track :) Challenging, but very rewarding to string a good lap together.

Sorry to whoever it was that I drifted into at the start, I got it a bit sideways changing up to second - hope there was no damage done.
I was quite surprised to be catching Daniele after the first few laps, given his qualifying pace. Inherited P1 after he made a mistake and was thinking to myself that I could probably hold on to win if I kept it tidy...until I went wide and hit a concrete hay bale :(
Limped round with a wonky car for the rest of the race and brought it home second. Still fun though.

Congratulations to Daniele, John and Ed,

Every on a superstar!

Not having a great knowledge of Porsches I didn't realise that the 906/8 had a bigger motor!

During the race I was hampered by the car suddenly shifting down a gear when I least expected it.  This caused me to rub along the wall a couple of times, the last one of which brought Geoffers onto me.  He vanished when we lapped an orange 906 but I never saw his departure.

Alessandro came passed me down the straight as though I was standing still so I guess that a slightly higher 5th may have been a good idea too.

I had one half spin at the first hairpin but apart from that it was just a case of trying to keep it in one piece.

Great drive by John in the GT40.  I watched some of his practice laps and it was sure entertaining.

Thanks to Matt for the solid server too.

...
Not having a great knowledge of Porsches I didn't realise that the 906/8 had a bigger motor!
...

Bigger engine, bigger fuel consumption, bigger understeer forcing me to use softer front tires ...

After good qualifying i just wasn`t able to keep my life simple having spun on second harpin in very first lap. Didn`t want to create mayhem so i stand still untill last car pass me.

So here we go again, from last to whatever i can catch.
To be honest, my third place is result of other people making more mistakes than me, more power for back straight and little bit of luck in last two laps when my front tires had big drop off.

Congratulations to all finishers because this track really hits you hard even for slight mistake ... not easy to survive 18 laps at all.

After several practice laps on the server last night, I decided that it would take me a lot longer than normal to "work it out". I was frustrated that my lap times were nowhere near where they should have been, so I decided to give it a miss. I apologise for that, but my basic GT40 setup was clearly not good enough for this track. I needed more time to get to grips with the car and the track, but I didn't have time to even look at it during the week.

That turned out to be a very nice race.

I had been creeping into 2:04s in offline practice but just couldn't string a lap together in quali. This left me 4th on grid and although I got a good start, John skewed into me as he took 2nd gear (np easily done mate ;)) and I had to get out of the throttle putting me back in 7th or 8th by the hairpin  :(

The outcome was that I had race long battles, particularly with Alessandro which was thoroughly enjoyable. I was quicker in some sections but had to be very patient as it is such a difficult track to pass safely....even the obvious places were extremely hazardous as it was so easy to misjudge braking points. I passed Clive and eventually Alessandro to reach 3rd place, but after all that I dropped a wheel on the grass and did a 360 losing 2 places  :wetfish: before eventually coming home 4th  :sweatdrop:

Grats Daniele, John and Ed and thanks Alessandro for some excellent fun  8)

Good to see no problems or discos again while using Matt's server. I reckon we ought to start sending our donations to him  :thumbup1:

It is very rewarding to see that people gave the track the respect it deserved, it is a hard track to complete 18 laps on
and the cars were some of the faster ones so it was really important to keep it tidy, I saw an altercation between
GT and Allessandro towards the end, but it seemed to be good natured as they were nose to tail at times  :o

Syd was doing the usual suicide moves, and I had some fun dodging him, and then a good chase with Walter, both passed
me eventually, though Syd ended up bent at the side of the road unfortunately. I was amazed to see that most of the 906s
were not the -8 variant, they were clearly the car to be in which rather surprised me (as all races with porkas do...)
I love the panty here as it slides round the corners at any opportunity, but couldn't do the turns as fast as the Porks

I promise to give you all a wider track for the next few  ;D

And, apart from the 2x mass discoes at Mid America, (Can't see why, but might have been track related)
the last 3 times we've run on my home brewed server it has been perfect, as far as I can tell no one discoed
at any of those 3 events, yet people are reporting being dropped from even practice sessions with only a couple of
people connected on the official server.

Might just have been lucky, but it doesn't shine a kind light on our official (very expensive) server  :-\

Not a very good race for me, although I must admit I found the track great fun in the 906. Unfortunately I should have spent more time on setting up the car as I was having real problems getting it stopped for the two hairpins & this was eventually my undoing.  ::)

Got a bit lucky at the start when John got a bit squirrelly off the line & left me a clear run into T1. Didn't last though as the GT40 soon blasted past. Settled into a nice 3rd place & all was going well until I clipped a barrier & spun, two more quick spins soon followed. Eventually caught up with Clive & was looking for a way past when we came up to lap Alex at the second haipin. Braked in plenty of time but the car veered left & before I could correct it I clipped Alex (sorry! :() & spun into a lamppost!  :'(

Congrats to the podium, cya all at Lakeside.

PS: If any of you fancy a race on Sunday evening, the NG League race is 911RSR 2.8s at Miller. All welcome.

yes...maybe i did a little mistake there. gt was faster than me, but standing on the lefd side of the track was dangerous setting the car on the right line for the next corner...and i think to have closed the line of GT just a little bit earlier than the correct time.

sorry for this.

initially this track was tought for my driving style, instead this car is very very beautiful to drive, always with respect!  ;D

i vote always for this safety server....:-)

I heard somewhere that the 906-E is the easiest drive. I didn't think to test the other 906s. Maybe next time.

906/8 was quicker but much more difficult to be consistent over race distance. I chose the 906 over the 906-E as it was a little more agile for me. All great race cars though and far more rewarding to drive than those uncouth tanks on offer  ;)  ;D

Unofficial LapChart (http://www.justanotherpage.nl/Srou/PnG/GTR2_preluk1974_2013_8_22_20_42/)

Very old school race.. just busy keeping the car on the grey stuff. One of the best tracks where you get the sensation of speed.
The orange car, that was me. Was trying to give as much room as possible on this narrow track which was not always easy.

Oh, can one of the admins please update the group for Porsches #66058, #66060 and #66148? They fall in group Gr4-2L (Group 4 under 2 liter) instead of Group 6.

While you're at it, can you please also have a look at this?

I was amazed to see that most of the 906s were not the -8 variant, they were clearly the car to be in which rather surprised me (as all races with porkas do...)

I heard somewhere that the 906-E is the easiest drive. I didn't think to test the other 906s. Maybe next time.

All 906`s except "e" model have fixed toe in values and playing with that you can adjust car behavior to suite your driving style.

For example: in 906/8 i was using softer compound front tires to have similar grip as i would have in 906e and different toe in (actually with toe out) ...

It`s difficult to tell what is better and more agile because car only reacts on your input.
If you want better initial turn in, you don`t need to bother with "e" model but if you want better front grip and you can live with slow turn in, you will pick "e" ... or softer front tires praying that they will last the distance.
