This will be a scream  ;D
I love this Beemer, but it's too slow or too fast to run with anything else whenever I try it
so It gets it's own event  :chef:

Dangerous perhaps, but I have added a Porka so we get a 2 car challenge.
And no before you say it Clive, I did not do the testing...  ::)
I asked a well known coleopterist to do it.  8)
I "think" for most people the Beemer will be a better option, but some will get the POrk
round in similar if not slightly faster times. I expect the Porks will be overtaken into the
T2 hairpin if someone can get the Beemer out of the final turn fast enough.

Arse. Going to miss this one. Mind you, I will be on holiday driving round the west coast of Scotland, so it's not all bad :)

Coolest. just been up there for an event at Kames.

I have changed the Pork flavour. Even though I trust the secret tester from MIRA, I am only a couple of tenths slower in the 2.8
and the 914, so experience says I can only offer the 2.5. I am only just over a second slower in it, so it should fit in with
a good Beetle herder.

The BMW 3.3 12v should be a lot quicker than the 911ST 2.5  ???

No Comprende? my own post? I asked Tudor to test the 3.3 against any Porche, and he got the 2.8 as a couple of tenths slower
the 914 almost with the 2.8:

BMW 3.0 CSL 3.3 12V  jagermeister    57.448120

Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 3.0             55.932434

Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 2.8             57.606720

PORSCHE 914/6 GT                          57.866913

PORSCHE 911 RSR IROC                   57.936157

PORSCHE 911 ST 2.5                        59.265625

I am tempted to include 2.8,914,and IROC, based on Tudor is a much better Pork herder than I am.
When I tested myself I am faster in the 2.8 then the Beemer, and as fast in the 914.
Based on previous events, if I am not at least 2 seconds slower in a pork then it will murder any other
included car. Perhaps I am actually no worse here in a Pork than the 3.3? If so I will put the
other ones in, but I am doing low 59's in Beemer and 914, and 2.8 and 1:09 in 2.5
This is supposed to be a limited car choice event, but I don't mind opening it up a bit.
Comments welcome:

It may well end up back at that. If I am not confident that 2 cars are alomost identical pace, then there is
no point in doing it in this series. Could do with some truthful times from people

Race fuel and medium tires:
BMW 3.3 - 56,6
RSR 2.8 - 56,5

Both have problems with tire wear and overheating after just 5 laps: BMW with front left, Porsche with rear left.
Nice track for tactics - fast setup or safe setup to bring you home with some rubber on rims.

... or they don`t have problem at all with tires. They have problem with me.  ;D

With ST 2.5 I`m 3 seconds slower.

That confirms GT and my own times. 2.8 is in then.
Hopefully it won't become a Pork Fest.

is a good idea the only 2 cars option.

we could add weight to faster driver by the server. so the differences could be marginal.

And it's still faster than the 16volt Escorts.
Handicapping drivers is a bit emotive. "If" I had the time, I would run one of the series with some sort of handicapping
so if you get into the 1st 6 in the championship you have to drive a slower car, like Tony did last year
I barely find time to create races, so anything else will have to wait.  :(

Yes Alessandro, the BMW 3.3 12v and Porche RSR 2.8

It should really just be the BMW but Matt can never resist the temptation to stuff another Porsche in where it isn't wanted.   :P

Ok guys. I get a CTD when at start of the loading screen (track). Changed resolution and DX settings already. And tried both download links.
Anyone suggestions what it might be?  Thanks

EDIT: just rebooting my pc did the trick today. Track loads fine now..

I often get a problem when the game is booting up, just before the picture of the Alfa on its ear!  The screen flashes (desktop) and then comes up with a message to say that there has been an error.

I have found that deleting a track or two usually cures it.

It usually happens just after installing a new track but there doesn't seem to be any set number of tracks that it objects to.   ???

I also have got exactly the same issue. Possible a memory issue (still running XP with 3,7 Mb of internal memory...). Funny thing is that in PnG v2 I didn't have this issue.

Incidentally, trying to choose between these two cars is akin to trying to choose between a broken arm or a broken leg!

I had the pleasure of doing a short practice session today. Nice track, it is fun and challenging. The BMW that I drove was not the fastest 3.3 litre, but the skin looked nicer. Seems like a common theme in PnGv3.

Regarding the 911, I recently read some setup advice that might help an aspiring Porsche driver. Malcolm Reynolds from the NG WNR said, "if you can't reduce the oversteer anymore at the rear, it's time to increase understeer at the front Sounds counter productive but it balances the car out. High 'slow rebound' damper settings at the rear will help control a twitchy rear end though

I will stick with "drive it properly" like Porsche should be driven and that means to use throttle to ballance understeer/oversteer.

Slight lift off (or just lift off - depends on situation) to cure understeer and full throttle to cure oversteer ...

Idea behind this is that, if you lift off, you don`t have enough load on rear tires to fight heavy tail because of mass transfer ...

BMW and 911 are almost identical in lap times, so it comes down to whether you fancy pushing your advantage down the straights or in the corners which isn't such an easy choice as the straights aren't very straight  :-\ Advantage pork then.

Well not necessarily. The pork has the added complication of the handling changing dramatically throughout the race with the changing fuel load having a big influence on the way the pork handles.....what seems like a nice setup at the start can be a real handful by race end. I never understood this until recently, but even understanding this doesn't make it easy to overcome.

I agree and I enjoy reading your description. I mostly was trying to pass along the information regarding the rear rebound setting. I might even increase the rear rebound on my BMW setup.

Like this track and car combo! Thanks for that Matt  :)

New PB in practice and a good start. Was up to sixth due to other's mistakes, then made a mistake
on my own and fell back to 12th just behind WConn and Seniordan although result listed me in last
position  ???

Some nice laps after that, then I lost the car just before the leaders were going to lap me and very
quickly left the race. Don't wanted to destroy their race.

CU next time.

Stig

No problemo Hotkeys it can happen, i had a nice race after all. Had an early spin on turn 2 when was running the outside of AnimalEd. Sadly even the slightest brush of him and me send me in a slide and i saw the whole field come by. But i was still alive, so i kept going.
Caught op with Walter and Alex last laps, they decided to give each other a hard time on the last lap and i managed to sneak by.
Was on mediums all round (as to lack of practice i quess). Couldn't get rid of last bit of understeer witch killed the front left. Never driven the Beemer before, it was a nice drive on this lovely track. Cant wait for the next one. Hope find that extra second race pace.

Results and Replay POsted

I enjoyed that, Lakeside usually gives some good tussles. I had got up to 6th when Syd and then Alex
made some errors, was just about keeping them behind when TightVNC closed my screen to say it had times out....  :taz:
Arghhh, drove back onto the track to be immediately lapped, but then kept going anyway as I was having fun with the
wandering beetle.

Good race Postal and Alex. Sorry that I left track and rejoined right in front of you Alex! I had hard tires, and the car had a nice balance. I was off pace until the last ten laps when I was able to catch Alex. I made it past and then went wide before the last two corners. Alex had to slow down to keep from hitting me, and Postal was sneaky and passed us both. Congrats to the Podium! Thanks for the race, W.C.

A good first half of the race keeping pace with Goldtop up front, but then my lack of setup knowledge bit me in the ass. I have never even considered using different tyres for front and rear, and this was one race where I needed it. I guess my failing front tyres resulted in the annoying understeer that I suffered towards the end of the race, and that dropped me from P2 to P4. Not a bad result, but a rather frustrating one.

Post by: Clive Loynes on August 30, 2013, 09:49:47 AM +0100
Well I made a right monkey's of that!

Qually setup was good for 3rd on the grid but I had set up my race car to be loose on the back and that caught me out on the first lap with a spin at the long right hander over the hump.

I had already dropped to 4th because the car in front on the grid, probably Tudor, didn't move soon enough and so I had to back off.  That let frex through into 3rd.

After that I just had to go for it but I just do not know what the fast blokes were using for grip!  I lost 30 seconds to them at the start and they were pulling away from me all race; finally lapping me with a few laps to go.

Grats to Tudor, Geoffers and Aged Ed.

Also WD to Syd for being top Soggy.

Medium tyres all around worked fine for the first half of the race, Clive. I qualified on these and with race fuel, so I had every confidence that I would be able to challenge for the lead. I can normally get away with my basic setup tweaks, but it seems that this track needed to be treated a bit more carefully for a 45 minute race. I will have to remember that "hard tyres at the front, medium tyres at the rear" trick in future ;)

Well I had a great start, so that must have been Geoffers  ;)

At the last minute I decided to go for hard fronts/med rears for the race, but hadn't tested so wasn't sure how it would go. For the first third of the race I suffered with understeer, but after that the car was nicely balanced. By this time Mogget was busy with Ed so I had an easy run with the only entertainment coming from Frex who couldn't make up his mind if he wanted to unlap himself or not.

On a less happy note, I was blocked twice on quali laps by a driver joining from the pitlane on the racing line and then later rejoining the track after an off, both of which resulted in contact. The same driver was then less than helpful in race when he was being lapped again resulting in contact, thankfully this time with no consequence. Thanks for that!

I was worried about start because of extra long 1st gear but it turns out that BMW is not such a starter so I was able to retain my position to T1.
Ended up in 3rd spot After Geoffers and frex made mistake and next 30 laps spent behind Mogget.

It was fine at the begining having both Mogget and GT in shooting range until Mogget start to have problem with front left tire and Geoffers closing fast.
It was nervous 5 ish laps trying to find a gap or good spot for dive bomb because I`ll be sitting duck with lack of top speed if Geoffers catch us.
Fortunately (for me off course) Mogget went wide leaving me clear road ... but too late to try something with GT ...

Anyway second place is great result for me.

Yeh, sorry about that - i thought with a little gentle hassling i could persuade you to move over for me, but when you flashed your lights i wasn't quite sure if you meant "Come on through" or "Keep back, you're annoying me"..! Didn't want to be repsonsible for taking out the race leader so decided it was better to be cautious and just held station for those last few laps. Good fun though.

Big apology to Geoffers for the T1 lap 2 incident - i didn't feel any contact at the time, but that was clearly my fault as i tried to come through from a long way back and we touched. Sorry for that.

Shame there weren't many Porsches - i only took the CSL as i somehow assumed it wouldn't be very popular. Wish i'd taken the 911 now, ah well..

Congrats GT and podium.

Medium tires for me worked well even in latest stage of the race.

Actually that was the main reason why I took Porsche.

I can live with Porsche reasonably happy tail when tires went off but I`m absolutely allergic on BMW`s understeer in any phase of the race.

Unofficial LapChart (http://www.justanotherpage.nl/Srou/PnG/GTR2_lakeside_2013_8_29_20_44/)

40 minutes of non-stop action! Wow  :o
Thought I could do some tyre management so I went for the all soft option. Errrr... that was a sligth miscalculation.
Catapulted to 6th due to others falling off, Syd and Matt hunted me down at the beginning. Then hard a long fight with Robert.
After he overtook me all hell broke loose when the front runners, fellow competitors and cheecky frex who was running behind the leader, were all bunched up on this small but fast track. On top of that me front tyre was down to a wear of 45 !!
Great stuff and .. all clean fighting!  :thumbup1:

I made it past and then went wide before the last two corners. Alex had to slow down to keep from hitting me, and Postal was sneaky and passed us both. Congrats to the Podium! Thanks for the race, W.C.
Classic last lap stuff  ;D. Couldn´t decided which side to take so I battered front left tyre gave out. Great opportunistic driving from Postal !

Hope that was not me. I got wacked during qually at the first hairpin when I thought I did the right thing (getting off the racing line to the right and flashing lights). Please file a incident if you think I was out of line so I can learn..

Furthermore an apology to Matt for blocking your VW in the pit. Be aware about referring to Dutch drivers though, there are now three of us  ;)

LOL, was meant to be in jest, I should have stuck a :-0 on the end, but was busy.
Only dodgy thing I saw was Rob being unceremoniously shunted off at T1 1st lap, when he braked cautiously
and was left in the fence without being waited for
Even if you think the guy in front caused the incident, you should at least wait for him. It was a 43 lap race
if you are fast enough you will catch back up
