Title: UKGPL Season 25 (2013) Formula 2 Trophy - Imola - Sep 29
Post by: Billy Nobrakes on September 23, 2013, 11:03:24 PM +0100
THIS POST IS FOR THE LIGHT & HEAVY RACES
Round 4 of the F2 trophy will be at Imola – also known as the San Marino Grand Prix in the days when the Italians could have two home races. Due to lack of financing finding its way to the pocket of a certain Mr B Eccelstone we no longer get to see F1 racing at this terrific circuit. Fortunately sim racers aren’t in it for the money.

The Driver list is shown below & the Championship Table can be found here F2 Trophy  (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=405&theme=6).  As the field have been a bit smaller than expected & running on a mixed grid handicapping is suspended until further notice – you can drive what you like.

A maximum of one reset is allowed per race & must be followed by a compulsory Stop & Go in the pit lane within two laps of the Reset. If you Reset on the last lap a 15 second time penalty will be awarded.
Incidents should be reported in the usual way.

In line with other divisions the races will be subject to full moderation in the red zone which will be to the exit of Aque Minerali. The Moderator may chose to investigate any other incident, in addition to reported incidents & red zone incidents.

Please note that for UKGPL has introduced a system of penalties within each series for drivers accumulating yellow cards – see here
Penalty Points (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=10879.0). Drivers incurring these penalties will receive a PM advising when a penalty has been applied & what race it should served.

Well, that was more entertainment than I was expecting!
In our little battle,  congrats to Phil.  He managed to get the job done despite towing a caravan (me!) for the entire race duration. He sneaked through very early & I thought that I would not let that go quite so easy!

I just knew that I should probably stay close,  or he'd be away up the road & I'd be a sitting duck.
Eased off a bit with the intention of letting fellow BN'er Samb breeze past (would have got past easily soon enough,  but no point losing valuable team/light brigade points over something silly...).

In the closing stages it looked as if the flying Natan would potentially gobble us both up.  I'm glad PT/I were able to keep the positions that I rather fancy we deserved after some close running (distance, not ability - after all I had permanent draft).

I'm generally of the opinion that mixed grids probably are that oil/water combination (& I do not want to start another conversation about this!)   but this one was most enjoyable.  It's good to get out there & see a different set faces so can put names to actions :)

Cheers,
Dave.

We are pretty evenly matched, there is an overlap between the top of the Heavies and the bottom of the Lights.  You are in one and I'm in the other.  When Sam came past us he showed the real difference in class, I couldn't stay with him, draft or no draft.

I really enjoyed the race Dave.  Hope we have a mixed grid for the next round ;)

With only 11 starters a mixed grid is practically the only option. F2's seem to be a little easier to handle than some other mods, so the difference in performance between Heavy & Light is not so drastic.

I really like Imola but somehow I managed to muck up my screen settings and lost and info from Prib. So no feedback on gear selected and no sound as a clue when to change. I am crap in these things but not that crap  :D

To compound things I got stuck in Arcade view (F10) which was odd. Ddin't like it so I quit early.

Some brilliant racing last night and I'm not just saying that because I saw the chequered flag first.

Dean-0 led the way from the start with myself, Sam, Axl and Dean-L in close attendance for what turned out to be some very close battling throughout the race.

It was inevitable that the only real passing spot under braking at Tosa would provide the toughest battling. First Sam and Dean-L ran into problems here early on and then myself and Dean-0 later.

Dean-0, I hope your not spitting blood over our contact as we both fought for the inside line at Tosa for the upteempth time. We both recovered just ahead of the stalking Axl but you clearly needed more extensive repairs and I was sorry to see you relinquish the lead when you peeled into the pits. Regardless, I really enjoyed racing with you but no hard feelings from me if you think the mods need to review anything.

Between Sam at the start, Dean-0 in the middle and Axl at the end this was some of the best racing to be had this season.

Lastly I think the single grid works really well, providing the opportunity for close racing for all. The more the merrier!

Oh, by the way - I was not meaning to suggest the mixed grid is a bad thing;  just in case it came across that way :)

Well right after i was a little peaved but after looking at the replay and giving it some thought i realized i had made a bonzi move at the last moment and so you had not enough time to react ,like you said its a shame but that's racing :-[ it was a real blast racing that close ,some thing i really enjoy
