Presumably, or Matt would have said so?

EDIT: Race announcement revised to state this

Now running from our new server and with 3.1 installed. Have fun.

Huge thanks are due to Picnic for sorting everything out so quickly for us.

The arrival of the new server and 3.1 were not anticipated to be at the same time but he gave up his free time to get us online without interuption to any races.

Top man Piccers  :)

Looking forward to this one, proper race cars on a proper track  8) Quite fancy taking a lovely GT40 for this (despite hated under steer!) but not tried any of the other cars yet.
2:45 race pace so far but expect I need to shave another couple of secs off that.

It will definitely be the GT40 for me.

Tried the Pantara and the GT40 and I'm too slow to catch a cold in both!

It is a good thing that we are at a familiar track because I may not get to practice until tomorrow. My plan is to drive the Pantera because I already have a set-up for it. I just noticed that I am in 11th place in the points for the Sports Car Series.  ;D How did that happen?

I'm stuck on 2:44 in the gt40  :( it's a dog. Fast Italians are 7secs a lap faster than that in 906's. Assume this car set wasn't tested then :-\ I tried one and went 3 secs faster in my first lap  ::)

Not so sure about that, Mark. I've got into the 37's in the GT40, so if the Italians are doing the same in the 906 then it sounds pretty close.

I'm in the 39s in the Pantera with race fuel & tyres, so may scrape into the 37s with the soft tyres.

Heh just my lack of skills with them then  :-[ it was the 'fast' Italians online and I was full race fuel so that may equalise a little but not 7 secs worth. I saw a pantera do a 37 so that's also quick. I really fancied taking the gt40 but looks like I may have to drive something I'm more competitive in.

Anyone got a decent setup for the GT40? Don't know what works well with it to stop it feeling a lumbering beast.

Nice, I get the same feel from PnG as that poor sod was suffering in the real thing.

If that was his qually lap then I think that he has a case for claiming that he was impeded by all those prams!  Full marks for out braking the Porsche into Les Coombs though.  But it's a shame that they didn't position the windscreen wiper a tad lower!

Just out of interest, the fastest lap at this year's Spa 6 Hours was set by Kenny Brack in a GT40 at 2.45.494. His pole lap was 2.44.195. So you are about on the pace MJ! ;)

Hehe, great always knew I could do as good a job as Kenny  ;D
Though that means some of you aliens are even quicker than he is  :o ;)

...so is it stiff springs and soft abrs or the other way around for the gt??? Full power diff? It's like a bus at the bus stop chicane!  :P

Haven't a clue MJ but your best bet is to get in the Pantera as you are probably about ten seconds off pole at the minute.

I am way off a 2:37 after my first quick test, but then I was using the R106 tyres with an 80L fuel load. Nevertheless, a 2:37 will be impossible with me at the wheel, and I reckon I'm a half decent GT40 driver.

Title: Re: UKPnG Season 8 Sports Car Series - Spa - Oct 17
Post by: Clive Loynes on October 17, 2013, 07:05:32 PM +0100
I can manage a 2:41 in the GT40 and a have scraped under 2:40 in the Pantera.  John can take the GT40 and pull away from me at something over two seconds a lap but would apparently be closer to Geoffers.

The thing is, I see the GT40 as being  there for those aliens who want to self handicap themselves against us humans.  But I expect that the front of the grid will be full of Panteras and, from my experience, following them is difficult because you can't see for tyre smoke!

It is racing after all, and in my book that means getting yourself in the best car and going as fast as you can, alien or not!

Great vid - here some more GT40 from the Six Hours Spa 2013 (especially around 7:00):

Nevertheless I'm even more uncompetitive here than usual in each of the cars to be selected, so I'll skip this one.

Have fun racers  ;)

Good race, good fighting all race long, plenty of close stuff & not one bit of contact... till the very last turn, I caught Federico :-[ robbing him of the chance to drag race down to the finish line with GT. Sorry chaps.

The Pantera was lots of fun to drive on this track. I was able to finish in 10th place because some other people had bad luck. Sorry to see Frex get disco at last minute. I went wide in Pouhon on the first lap. Then I was able to make up a few positions. I spent the second half of the race chasing Clive and Jarda, but they were quicker today. Great race everyone! WC

Well Mogget, i was a bit annoyed when i got the tap. But then i reckoned it was probably an racing incident. These things happen, especially with these fire breathing monsters with less then no brakes! Please don't leave next time, so i wont have to do the last laps on my one  ::)

Before race i couldn't decide which car to take. GT40; great but bugger understeer. Tried two versions of 906. One was pleasent but little off pace too (for me). So scrambled a setup together for the Pantera and it turned out to be quite an alright race car. Never did drive Spa before, superb stuff!

I started braking with plenty of space between us, but the car just would not slow down as quickly as your Pantera. I was a helpless passenger until impact :( I left the server because I thought that you had given up. I slowed down and waited, but you never appeared....

Spent all my build up time to the race trying to make the gt40 work for me but it proved a forlorn hope  :'(
So at the last minute I took the Pantera which I hadn't used before and had to use qually to put a setup together, which meant dialling out the oversteer !

Got caught out on the start lights as the second I looked behind me whilst someone hadn't joined, the flipping lights changed. ::)
Had a good clean couple of laps dicing with others then got a stupid oversteer turn around in pouhon. Had no choice but to watch the rest of the grid go past and rejoined dead last and lost 20 secs  :(
Enjoyed rest of the race chasing and passing others and a good little battle with Syd then Matt but could not close on Walter ahead in 10th.
Finished 11th

Good turnout tonight  :)

Made some setup changes in Q wich slowed me a little bit but still managed to finish :) That was a hard one. Made lots of mistakes and lost several positions. On the 8th lap i saw that my engine remains 5% so I had to slow down a little. The last 3 laps it was showing 1 % so i had to keep it on lower revs to be sure i'll finish :D Never happened before but added some extra thrill in the race. Grats to the winners!

Tough race for me. Was going well in practice and was hoping to better my mid 36 pb in quali, but never got close. Car was very difficult for the first few laps with entry oversteer and exit understeer probably caused by a mixture of bad setup and over driving. After about 5 laps I noticed my engine health was at 16% and dropping every time I over-revved, so had to be careful.

Had a nice chase with Legzy and eventually got past when he made a mistake. Then had a couple of laps chasing down Federico and passed him into La Source on the final lap. Crossed the line 4th with 3%  :o

Qually went well, with a PB, and I made a good start but found myself in the slow lane through Eau-Rouge and up the Kemell to Les Combes.  Just as I was about to make a move into Les Comes I suddenly found Mogget's bus alongside and so that plan was scuppered!

The bus finally went off, presumably to get passengers, and I was able to start chasing Tudor.

I was making his life as difficult as I could but then in my efforts to appear in all of his mirrors at once I scraped the inside wall at La Source, which cost me a couple of seconds.  I then had a half spin at Les Combes, which dropped me a further few seconds back and spent the rest of the race trying, without success, to close the gap.

Jarda fell out of the fight up ahead and I managed to pass him going into Eau Rouge, thanks to his sensible approach to what I suddenly realised was otherwise going to be an accident as we charged down the hill.

Ivan was my next target and I managed to nip past him whilst he nursed his engine to the finish.

Congratulations to Giuseppe, Otto and John, who had a race of their own, way off in the distance.
