Title: UKGPL Season 25 (2013) Friday Trophy - Rouen - Oct 4
Post by: Cookie on October 01, 2013, 01:18:05 PM +0100
Season 25 Friday Trophy - Rounds 19 & 20 - Rouen-Les-Essarts

We race in north western France at Rouen-Les-Essarts.
In the 1950s and 60s this track was widely regarded as one of the finest in Europe. The French Grand Prix was first held at Rouen-Les-Essarts in 1952 before the track was lengthened and  the Grand Prix held there again in 1957, 1962, 1964 and 1968.  It is the lengthened circuit that we will be racing on tonight.  The 1962 race was won by Dan Gurney, his first Formula 1 victory and the one and only win for Porsche.  The 1964 race was again won by Dan Gurney this time driving a Brabham-Climax.  The final grand prix in 1968 was won by Jacky Ickx but it will always be remembered for the fatal accident involving Jo Schlesser.

This round is for the GTs and CanAms.

Short on numbers tonight and a shame to see Axl and Dean disappear in Race 2.

Grats to Sergio and Axl race 1 and Dave C and Sergio race 2.

Sorry to steal third in the second race from you Dave R!

To be honest I'm glad to see the back of Rouen but enjoyable enough for me. See you all and a few more next time.

...shame to see Axl and Dean disappear in Race 2...

After the third time getting backwards going up the hill it stopped being much fun, so before I ruined someone else's day trying too hard to recover lost time, I went and found something else to do.  :(

Ferrari's got some speed if you wring its neck, but is a twitchy SOB imo.

I've got a fast CanAm Ferrari but I didn't take in count the damn WARPING that has completely ruined my fun ! Unfortunately I've got the warping in key points during hard braking and the result has been 3 times out of track and a race stupidly lost !  :P ::) :-\ >:(

Nice fight instead with Axel which I also have touched at least twice without any consequence fortunately (or at least it seemed to me) during race 1. I think he has become much stronger compared to last year.

It seems this championship have lost many of its drivers and I don't know why. It has been told that the old PSC championship had lost its participants because of the rolling start but...I don't think so. I think when a championship is very competitive it discourages many guys because practice is needed a lot and here instead, the most people want to race immediately and be competitive but this is not possible with Grand Prix Legends.  It is a shame because the championship is very interesting (also if I would like have had open wheelers cars and closed ones separately).

Yes, this was racing at its best with the GT's!
The contact were no problem for me (small crashbox due to BW settings!)

The GT's are my favourite cars and made me going online...

Shame my PC froze complete in CanAm.

I think the low participation has also to do with a track like Rouen wich is not as easy as Effex or upcoming Panchine...

For me the challenge is to be a good allround driver as the guys in 67 were. They drove all cars in a season, even Touringcars like the Cortina...

BW Settings ?? ??  ???
Bandwidth
I set my server to 2/84 2/384, wich means it sends every 2 frames instead of 3 (18 times per second!)
So you have smaller crashbox peaks ;)

The bandwidth of 'Heavie's,' in this Series has been very light.  Billy has proved it is possible to finish 1st, and I've been competitive at the tracks I like.  But perhaps something extra is needed to get some extra cars to join in?  . . . . I may have found that something.  A special announcement to all Heavies, will follow here, as soon as preparation is complete.

The start time of 8.45 has made it difficult for me as I have to pick up my daughters from Guides at 9.15pm which usually means that I can make race 2 but not always (as was the case this week). It is very frustrating to get to the PC and find that the race has started :(

It is a fun series though.

Could probably be necessary to delay the start of the races of half an hour! I don't think a race with only 5 participants might mean something ! :-[

It's the only chance some of us get!
