Modern tyre fix must be applied to the relevant cars. Full details here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=12159.msg218178#msg218178)

Car restrictions: Two drives maximum per make *. Check your status here (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AuS59xI7-YTLdGl0aWt3YWM4dkdMZGZhQlFwaTBqcVE&usp=sharing). *Drivers may elect to drop one make entirely and add two bonus drives with one other make.

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal
Pit stops: Not required

Server: simracing.org.uk Monday
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: There is a shortcut to prevent having to do an outlap. Follow someone who knows it  :shifty:

Maybe this one is better:

But I'm still none the wiser. Is it bad news e.g. an operation? or something nice e.g. Holiday?

I hope it will turn out more like a training camp - with appropriate success!
Arthrosis in both hips and degeneration of two spinal discs in the lumbar region
after an operation back in 1997.
I'm far too young for an operation of the hips...

My 4 week holidays then will be in June  ;D  :jumpjoy:  :punk:  :wheelchair:

Can't check
the number of drives google link, apparently my password was changed though I don't remember that
and I'm not giving them my phone number to verify the account.
Seems inappropriate that we have to create google accounts to go racing  ???

You don't!
Let me have a looksee

EDIT: The spreadsheet is set to "whoever has the link has access. No sign in required." The link is in the race announcement so I don't know what the problem is. I'll try to sort you a work-a-round.

I have sent an individual invite to view to your BTinternet email address.

Ha, I was just thinking 'hmm just to finally get a race in these cars would be nice' after two disaster first rounds  ::)
Love this track, got to be a 917 for me  8) cripes I best get some laps in  :o

Always up for a try though.  :scared:
I will be in whatever car is the most stable and easy to drive, you can romp away down the straight in your 917 MJ
but I will wave to you when you are up a grassy bank  ;D

I've never driven there in real life (only with my bicycle over 30 years ago  :P) but I live one hour from there
and visited the Nordschleife for more than 100 times, so I should know the track...

Forgot how tough this track is. It's a tad different to modern versions of it so some corners were unfamiliar. I only know upto the first carousel quite well then the odd corner sequence further round and I've driven it for real!  :o
Awesome in these cars though  8) after a few laps I expected to see oil grimed goggles on my face, I got so immersed  :thumbup1:

Trick to survive here is just drive at 8/10ths or less or you will never finish unless you happen to have done 200laps of the place and know every corner!  :P

Been having a few problems with my dfgt pedals so spent the afternoon dismantling pots and cleaning them up. All good now and thankfully no more sticky throttle as that wouldn't have been good around here  :o

Haven't done any laps since I sorted out my car choices for this season so I might try to get some in later.

Anyone under 8 minutes yet?

Besides yourself you mean ?  ;)

My pb so far is 8:07, in a Lola.  If I tried a 917, I could conceivably knock 7 secs off this and break the 8-minute barrier - providing I could keep from going into orbit, which is unlikely..  ;D

Cheers,
Erling

I'm behind you two at least then  :( been out all weekend so didn't get any more laps in. Plus I'm in the feisty little iconic 908-3  8) which is suspect is losing out on the long final straight sector to the big gun cars. Oh well, I enjoy driving it here  :)

Have track and cars loaded on my Season 14 system and can drive them OK but have had problems getting things sorted (see separate Forum under General UKGTL discussion).  Not driven GTL for about a month so not really the track or cars to start with again.

I've spent too long trying to sort out GTL from scratch and carried on like a dog with a bone for too long – need a complete break from GTL to clear my mind.  Will check in tonight to see all works OK but won't race but have early night.  Planning to be back racing again at Pembrey, shorter track to relearn and simpler cars to drive - probably drive the Anglia again.

Had so many attempts to register GTL On Line that I finally am registered as Will Thomas - Will short for William hence simply Bill previously, tried so many Bill Thomas variations I eventually went to Will Thomas for change.   ;D

Great to hear that things are finally working out Bill (or Will..)

Understand your reservations about making a comeback with this track/car combo - to call it challenging would be a bit of an understatement... :) (My local copy of The Ring is strewn with Ferrari 512 wrecks, after my failed efforts to master it at this track..)

Have an XD question guys.

I've noticed that when one of my front tyres are approaching 100º C, they start to turn yellow / orange in the XD display.  If they go over 100º C, display turns them deep crimson.

My rear tyres on the other hand, can be over 115º C and still be coloured bright green.  Are rear tyres 'allowed' higher temperatures, or is there something fishy with XD's display ?

Cheers,
Erling

I suspect that we can keep Bill Thomas in the race results Bill. But it would be useful if you could be online tonight for qualy, even if you don't drive. This will give me the opportunity to tell the system that Will Thomas is Bill Thomas. I can't do that unless you are physicaly "there".
And tonight would be good as I won't be around for the next two races.

I believe that XD is only reporting what it finds inside the physics workings of GTL and the particular car. So XD's display is always "right". It's probably to do with parameters set by the mods creator. It will of course also be related to tyre loads and air pressure.

I managed a lap and a half last night after giving up on GTR2 GTCs
I only tried the Alfa and the track seemed very narrow compared to other visits here  :o
I like MJs idea of drive something easy, but I don't find those 908s easy either.
I might try a neutered Matra if my ears can stand the screaming, the car's and mine  ;D

Yes that is what I tried to imply, I want to see all is well and I thought it made sense to be there for qualifying and the start to "tick all the boxes" and then race after the start line is cleared until I meet a sticky end. ::)

Tough event as expected, well done to all that finished  :)

Finished up 3rd after what felt like an hour of intense concentration. Managed to avoid any big offs but took to the grass verges on a few occasions. Was in 4th for a long Time, Kept catching the two ahead only to have 3 separate incidents under braking behind them  :o either their brakes were carp or they were driving like grannies in the slow corners  ;)
My car was evidently down a lot of bhp on the Lola and F512 as they had bags more power on the fast sectors but loved driving the 908 here and it sounded awesome   8)

Congrats to Goldtop and Coyote for 1st and 2nd, commiserations to Postal who lost his race long 2nd place on the last lap
Well done to all who took part and finished  :thumbup1:

Am now in the doghouse for racing from 8.15 until 10   ::)

Firstly, huge thanks to Matt for his heroic efforts to get his homebrew up and running with GTL and all the required cars + track in a very short space of time, to give us all a race.

I struggled with my car choice/setup here but glad I managed to finish albeit almost a lap down. Looked like there was much more exitement up the road in front of me as I saw XD change drivers several times.

What car was Clive trying to get in with?

See you all at Imola.

I was planning to use the Lola Maserati, as it it worked straight out of the box for me with a steady 8:20 lap at the first attempt on full race fuel.

It seems there is still something amiss at my end, as everything works offline but I hit probs if I try to join a server.  I got the "car is not loaded on server" message  for every car that I tried last night.??

So, if anyone has any clues as to where I should look.................................????

Firstly, huge thanks to Matt for his heroic efforts to get his homebrew up and running with GTL and all the required cars + track in a very short space of time, to give us all a race.

Yes thank you and well done Matt  8)

Always a tough track and a real test of concentration to keep it together. Had a good start and was soon up with MJ and Postal who both made slight errors on the first lap to allow me through. Would have been difficult passing them otherwise.

Once out in front I got my head down to build a lead in case I had a visit to the scenery. Had to ease off considerably as the 512s soft tyres began to give up and had a difficult couple of laps to the flag  :sweatdrop: I'd totally forgotten how borderline they were at Monza and the extra demands of the Ring really made them the wrong choice.

Well done finishers and hope you get your problems sorted Clive...no clues here unfortunately.

Clive, the downloads from this site use self installing exe's. All you need do is tell it where your GTL is. Hard to see what can go wrong  ??? Can you see the car make folders in your GTL install? I think they should all be in a sub folder called Extra Cars. I seem to recall someone having problems with a mod car which was caused by GTL been made to run in compatability mode?

Sorry to have missed this one, got home to late.

Grats to podium and grats to all finishers.

I had major problems getting online with cars when i used an app called GTL Tools, resolved problem by using GTL Tools to reset cars in GTL to default, then i deleted GTL Tools app from pc.

Have a great holiday Tony.

I'm running XP and so I do not use compatability mode Tony. And Yes, the  cars are all there in a folder called "Extra Cars".

All of the cars are visible off line, and driveable too. Just to be sure I even purchased every team/variant of each car as well !

The only anomoly that I can see is when I select the Lola I offline I get a picture of a Cobra 427, but if I go to the "showroom" I get the proper Lola graphics. I don't think that is relevant because all of the other cars in the "Extra Cars" folder show correctly, and I cannot get any of those online either???

Anyhow......what are you doing wasting time on my trivial probs???
Quit worrying about me and go and have a well earned holiday. Just don't come back and tell us how wonderful it was to bask in warm sunshine day after day!!!  :wetfish:

The Lola shows as Cobra for me too Clive, so it shouldn't be connected to your problems.

Shame we didn't succeed in getting you into the race yesterday.  Glad though to see that Bill is finally back, after all his trouble.  Big thanks to Matt for scrambling a server substitute at such short notice.

Tough race. In offline practice just before, with 2 laps worth of fuel, I managed to get my pb down to 8:03.6.  Hoped to match it in race qualify, but alas, never got to set a time.  After some position swapping early on 1st lap, I found myself in 3rd, behind the Fezzas of Postal & Goldtop.  Puzzled that I had no trouble keeping up with Goldtop, in a faster car no less, but the penny dropped when I briefly turned on my IFF and realised it was in fact Postal.  Out of sight, Goldtop had passed him.  Could lap faster than Postal, but couldn't get past. Bleedin' impossible to overtake a more powerful car on this track, as long as its driver doesn't stray too far from the racing line.  On the straighter sections, Postal would extend the gap, meaning I was too far away to try an outbraking manouvre at the next curve, and through the curves it just wasn't possible to get past - an attempt to force the matter would have ended badly.

Thus remained stuck behind for several laps, giving Mark the opportunity to sneak up on us in his 908.  Just at that moment, Postal and I both entered the carrusel wrongly, and shed speed very quickly. That caught Mark out, and he slammed into my back, spinning me round.  Got going again, now with some air down to Mark. Very surprised to catch Postal again, well before the next carrusel - guess he must have stopped for coffee, thinking Mark and I were out cold.  On and on then for several more laps, until Mark caught us again.  The sight of the little blue terrier in my mirrors distracted me enough to spin off. Went off several more places subsequently - once you start to mess up...  :)

Unbeknownst to me, up ahead Mark had passed Postal, when the latter went off briefly.  Typical, I do all the hard work of wearing him down, and somebody else reaps the benefits, after being behind him for 1/10 of a lap...    ;D

When I caught the two gents on the following lap, they had switched places again however. Now it was Mark's turn to spin, in almost the same place as me the lap before. Thus I was back in my now familiar place behind Postal.  On and on again lap after lap, until the end of the penultimate one, where I made a grave error.  Under braking after the long straight, I went on the grass, lost control and ended up on the inside of the hairpin, with the car resting on its belly, on the curb.  Unable to move, as the wheels hardly touched the ground.  Furious with myself for having the race end like this. Luckily, prodigious appliance of throttle eventually pried the car loose again, so I could continue - albeit with Mark up my tailpipe.  Not about to hand over 3rd without a fight though.  Finally had a clear track ahead and could put the hammer down - reflected in this being my fastest lap, despite soft tyres now being quite shredded.

When I reached Metzgesfeld, I caught a glimpse of Postal's car up ahead.  Then as I dove down Kallenhard, I briefly saw a flash of red high up on the right slope, obscured by trees, and heard something that might be an idling engine.  Could it be... ?     Yes, as it turned out, it was in fact Postal who had gone off, allowing me to finish 2nd.   Hats off to Postal for keeping so cool for so long, on this impossible track, despite all the pressure I tried to put on him.

Goal for me was to finish, hopefully scrounging some championship points from the bottom of the field, so naturally very chuffed about 2nd place.  Did spend most of the week practicing for it, so didn't get it for free..   ;)

Cheers,
Erling

Great write up Erling  8)

@ Clive. No the Cobra pics are nothing wrong. Just the mod creator being lazy and not finishing the job properly.

EDIT: What's bugging me is that you have already raced these cars at two events! So why couldn't you get in at the Nurb? Mystery.

Well not much to add to after the very nice write up of Erling.
Before the race I tried the Alfa which seems to be an angry one even after some tweaks, so decided to take the F512 as I had a setup for it as I needed as much time as possible on learning the track. Got it dialed in ok and found myself in front of the grid as I was one of only 3 who posted a time in qualy.
Got off the line well and had a good first lap, made a slight error and GT was gone. Looked like my setup was still too twitchy as I could not speed up without taking risks.  It was good racing through the forrest with two other great race cars on my tail lap after lap. Nursed the tires as much as possible and I thought I made it when I still could outbrake MJ into T2 in the penultimate lap. Too bad it went all tits up in the final lap (just one too many) the rears where so badly worn it would snap oversteer everywhere. That made me take a quick break for an ice cream, which led Coyote and MJ through. Did a final attempt to regain time lost, but to no avail. Happy to have finished this great and difficult track with this monster of a car. Congrats to the podium.
