Last Race of this series, as it's an 8 week slot, next would be Jan 2014  :o

Heck have we got to the end of the seasons allready? feels like I am only just getting started  ;)

I like what they have done to the Alfa-SA it doesn't swap ends every time you downshift anymore  :thumbup1:

Think that I will have to do most of my practice with the Pantera.  It's the only one that doesn't bore the leggings off me!   ::)

I'll decide which of the roller skates will give me a fighting chance over the race distance nearer the event.

They are all easy to drive.

It's getting the darn things to go fast enough that's the problem!   :taz:

For me the Mini was a second faster than the A110, and identical pace to the Alfa SA, though a couple of other cars
were a bit faster, all were with in a second for me.... but then my times are oarlocks mostly so anything
could happen.

Why don't you nice chaps who've already got some laps in and no doubt tried a few of the cars, actually help Matt out by posting the times you've found instead of guarding them like the lost secrets of the holy grail  ;) that way he's still got 5 days notice to make any tweaks to improve closer racing!  :-*

Well said MJ, thing is some people don't want to post their times exactly because I might
dissallow their favourite car

I am not too bothered if one car suits most people, I do care if my times are so far out
that only one car is worth taking at all. Suzuka bacame an RSR fest, and I had enlisted
other testers so it wasn't just my times. It's just that people like the RSR3.0 so they
drove it. I believe that if most had taken a panty or a 906 the results would have
been similar. Preference is fine, if one car is 2 secs faster for most people then
I have made an error and would appreciate early testing times to help fine tune  ;)

I wouldn't get too hung up on lap times if I were you.

I have seen times of from just under 2:03 to just over 2:04 but as to which one represents the best deal over 33 laps at x2 fuel I don't have a clue!  And by race night we may well be looking at times much quicker.  Much better if we just keep quiet and prevent any knee-jerk reaction that screws up the hard work done to date.

Matt has set the question and it is down to us to figure out the answer.  And for the record, I don't care if we all turn up in the same car either.

PS  I bet that Matt's Mini isn't a second a lap quicker than frex's Alpine!   ;D

Well Frex does rather like the Alpine...
The 911 2.5 was my fastest test car here, which is why it isn't in  ;D

If you saw all of these cars sat in the car park you would expect the Pantera to blow the lot into the weeds but somehow it doesn't happen!

There is only the Alpine that also looks the part, the other three are shopping cars!

Ah, don't think so only 3.0, if I run the updater "error downloading new script file", and if I go to P&G website, I dont see any updates?

That's probably why I haven't gone anywhere near it.   ;D

I don't have a time from anyone else either.  Just use it to get the shopping in.   ::)

EDIT:   Ooops!  Just found an earlier email from the SBRC Development Team.  Yes Chris, the Mini looks to be about 3 seconds off the pace.  We could make it obligatory for Italians and Kerbies!   ;D

Hmm, Jerez is a bit....flat and disappointing  :(.  Tried two different cars and got same lap times in each so that's a good thing so far, but only 6 laps in each. 2:08's so far with 20mins fuel onboard. Hope to try another car or two before Thursday, if I'm lucky!  :P

We did a race here last year? it was very good, as this will be IMHO
It doesn't have any hills it's true, but then most of the English
tracks are old flat airfields and we seem to have fun at those.
This is a fun and challenging track when you learn it, and are
on the limit with someone chasing you.
As I have said before I don't give a flying fish about how much fun it is
to hot lap, all I care about is a good race.  :P so there

it hasn't got the historical aura that the British tracks have!

Still, looks like it will be more fun for the actual race and the endurance element should spice it up a little (I take it you tested pitstops?) but that does rely on a variety of cars being used with their different strengths and weaknesses. I strongly suspect it will be the usual Alfa-fest  ::)
Looks good fun on an onboard and proves the track designer did a good job on it as I recognised every corner  :)  (couldn't find any historical non-f1 footage).

an idea for one of the series next season should be a 'fixed chosen car' for the season then a nice mix of fast then twisty circuits to stop any one car having a distinct advantage. Seems the only way to stop the eternal sim racing bane of everyone jumping in the best car for a particular circuit. That or penalty points of some sort. Legzy tokens !  ;D

Or for a 12 race series have a list of say 6 cars & you can only drive each of them twice (similar to Tony runs in GTL).

Post by: phspok on November 19, 2013, 02:45:57 PM +0000
I said before that I liked stuff that Tony and Legzy had done - Legzy Dollars/Tony's limited number of wives drives etc
It doesn't sound like much effort I suppose, but I am more likely to go for something with no added spreadsheets/admin
like 2 speeds of cars, not too much different with "Top 3 in the Championship have to drive one of the slightly slower cars"
I like the choose your car for the series idea, That might just get a field full of RSR3.0s? dunno, might be worth a try.

I think that this season has been very successful and that you should just repeat the whole thing.

Might get it right this time  ;D and there would be a benchmark for everyone with respect to their past performance.

Title: Re: UKPnG Season 8 Enduro Cup - Jerez - Nov 21
Post by: Mark J on November 19, 2013, 03:48:13 PM +0000
I also agree with what Clive says there, but do wonder if it was only so successful when there were just one or two aliens and they sportingly chose to drive less competitive cars to close the field ( and still win!). But just recently we seem to have been invaded by euro aliens taking the best cars and stealing all the points!  Not saying that as a negative against them just that it affects the grid balance that we enjoyed earlier on.

Not so keen on a 2 car use limit as it stops genuine enthusiasts of certain cars driving their fave steeds.

Yes  :D I was wondering why I "need" to change much, I think apart from the odd car/track choice issues these series have been
a lot of fun and most people have found them enjoyable, there is always something that could be done better/different
Something that adds a little spice, and some fine tuning can always be done.
All inputs have been welcome, and some variant of them will likely find their way into at least one of next year's series.
I would like to do a re run of the Aussie series, or maybe a "Colonies" series  ;D US/Canada/Aussie/NZ/SA
Like the Americans have "World Series" that are not.  ::) There will probably be another UK HIstoric series, after all this
is UK P&G, there will be something with V8s in it, possibly the US/Aussie series , some SPorts car theme using the
bigger faster tracks, probably a very occasional enduro event in one or more of the series to mix it up a bit
Maybe some form of handicapping in one of the series, probably a Spec race series, and a GT series
Though two of the series might get alternate weeks again.
The cauldron is still cooking

Mj has a point, but I get beat anyway so I am not going to complain if we get lots of hot shoes to give John a battle.
One fast driver is no different to another for me
Some of the Italians will likely return to their own series early next year when it gets going again.
I hope that others -Fast Eastern Euros for example stick around long term. It is nice when any of the old hands get to the
podium, heck I even won the odd event in the past, but I am reluctant to overly handicap to make it happen.

I think that the more fast people we can attract the better.  It isn't all down to their being gifted aliens either, I spotted that Team7 were putting in the miles on Jerez on their own server last night.  Like SBRC, they pass setups about and tweak them to give the required results by race night.

With regard to the limited series, if there are two speeds of cars, should we split the field in half, and the top half drive the slower of the two? (I am happy either way, but I can't keep myself from making suggestions! Sorry  ;D)

Start with a load of cars then reduce by one for each race after first. Lose either the most popular or the winners car (no spreadsheet required).

nah, we'd end up with a load of duff cars that nobody likes driving !  You shouldn't be penalised for getting a good result in a car of your choice/favoured, we just need to somehow deter too many taking 'the' fastest car in each group. Its always been a problem, and not something that happens in real racing as everyone cant afford the best car or are contracted to a certain manufacturer. Hence why a series that has a pre-selected car would be good as they have to use it whether it suits that track or not. Guess that still means all the clever ones (or those with the spare time!) will choose the best all rounder  :-\

Doesn't performance ballast work with P&G ?

But end of day, this has been a cracking season of varied series anyway  :thumbup1:

Tony has run a series with a reducing car list, and I think it worked well
true everyone ended up having to drive the Volvo P1800 (I think)
but it was a great series. Half the field os too much I think Walter
something like "top 3 in a championship" newcomers take anything until
they promote themselves into a slower car. i can feel that one growing in the
window box outside....

or an 8v for the leaders sort of thing.

I like all these ideas :thumbup1:

The mistake that was made when I was running it (with WT) was that the handicap series was every week or alternate weeks, so there was no break from it. These days where you're running multi-series I think one of them being handicapped in some way would be great 8) 8) 8)

Handicapping the odd series should be fun but please make sure you handicap raw speed and not consistency, otherwise in my experience it just doesn't work.

I like the variety of races Matt has come up with this season. The spice of life  8)

Edit: Haha, yes I was thinking exactly of that F1 series.

LOL When you get one of these shopping cars around in 1:20 I shall be all agog!

Brother Simon is also looking for some F1/open-wheeler action.  He has gone for a refund on rFactor2 and then went and spent money on iRacing!!!

But now it won't let him have anything but a bog slow tin-top.   ;D  The only thing in its favour is that he can race on a Sunday.

PS  Mr Cinderby may have claimed the lap records when we last raced PnG here but I won the race and Matt was second!   :P

I see everyone has been shifty and quiet about their laptimes and car choice leading up to this event!  :shifty:

Other than my handful of laps earlier in the week, not found the time to put some extra praccy in. Will have to try and do so before the race tonight! Not even practised a pitstop yet. T'is the Legends way, none of this team 7 /SRBC organised practise sessions malarkey  ;D probably why I hardly ever get in the top 6  :'(

Probably going to take the Pantera as I really like it in P&G and feels more like a racecar than the rest of the set, though no doubt at a disadvantage in fuel and tyres to the Alfas and escorts, couldn't face 70mins driving a saloon car   ;)

Race length now 34 laps

Pushed it to 34 laps, the Panty can do it but has to stop on the correct lap, if you are taking the panty do a quick fuel check
with your gearing to test.

Alfa SA would have to 3 stop so I advise against taking him  :o

The others have a pit window of anything from ~lap 5 to lap 30 so can do a splash and dash, or stop half way for best pace.
Tyre change is optional for most cars.

Please note. ****Race is 34 laps****

It only really affects the Panty, and even then it means it has to stop at 17 or 18, if it can make 18.
anyone driving the Panty would likely have had to stop at 18 max anyway.

Now stop shouting, you will frighten all the good boys and girls.

LOL

Changing the race length with less than 3 hrs to go hits everyone.

Mostly it will hit those who don't speak english and do not read this forum.

If they don't notice the subtle change you can expect them to splutter to a halt on the last lap.

sigh... retired on lap 21 at my pitstop  ::)  No doubt my mechanics couldn't get a wheel back on as it just sat there for several minutes with the sound of a hammer gun and nothing else happening as the grid sauntered past for another lap. Had no choice but to DNF or I would have sat there until midnight  >:(

Cant say I enjoyed that event. Didn't like the track and didn't like the cars for an endurance, and had no one to race really, just one of those nights for me. Also couldn't believe I saw a lot of contact on lap 1 ...of 34  ::)

on a positive side, great turnout again especially for an endurance event and glad to see there was a mix of cars chosen in the end rather than a horde of rally Alpine cars.  :)

Sounds like your mechanics were waiting for you to turn your engine off, so they could load up your fuel MJ.

Liked the track, it was a good spread of pretty evenly matched cars, something for everyone (except MJ ::) :-*) I thought.

Had a decent enough drive in the Alpine, steady as she goes.

Another endurance successfully endured.

p.s. Sorry for the tap on the Pantera (Jarek?) :-[

It was a shame to see the carnage in the first turn on the first lap. It probably took out some of my closest competitors. I really enjoyed the Pantera. I would not have expected Ford and Alpine to have that pace. My race went fairly well, except for a delay in my pit stop, and a few off track rallye moments. I would have needed a lot more practice to keep up with Jarda and Legzy. Great race everyone! - WC

Engine was off, fuel had already gone in, just the wheels never went on! Had even turned off 'repair' after an enthusiastic Italian bundled me off the track  ::)

Had a very few time to practice with this event so i choose Pantera couse i know her very well.

Good quly lap, not the prfect one, i've tryied to brake the 2 mins lap..... :P

Good start and initial pace with Otto consantly into my wake. But when the pit-stop was coming i've realized that the best i could do was the second place, couse i've had to do 85l refuel instead of Otto with his only 50l Escort...

I was enjoyed the firts half of the race, i spent the second one trying to close the huge gap with Otto. Only a mistake of him could giv me a hope.....Good race, grats to all, no problem to overtaking.

See u next week! ;D

lol, there's far faster out there than me Mog! Do you remember that NG vs Simjunkies series? Some of those guys were silly fast.

Otto was a second faster in quali, but I think the Italians took softs for the race, where I tried to make it with meds.

Grats GT, by the way :thumbup1:

Really enjoyed that one, despite making it hard for myself by spinning at T2 on the first lap. Had to wait for the whole field to go by before I could get back on the track. Had a great time working my way back towards the front, thought I would be doing well to make the top 10 by the end, so was really surprised & happy to finish 4th.

Congrats to Otto, Donato & Federico, great speed guys  :notworthy:

Also well done to GT & the Soggies on championship success.

I think you could have used a few more smilies there GT!  ::)

Oh & you forgot to thank your sponsors.

You're right..

 :jumpjoy: :jumpjoy: :jumpjoy:

Had some great battles early on with John, Giuseppe and Federico in their Escorts and managed to sneak up to third for a while until I lost my focus and outbraked myself into the gravel.

Was a bit surprised to see so many Alpines on the grid, but soon got it when it came to the pitstops. I thought my usual late pit strategy would see me through, but I lost a lot of places and somehow managed to under-fill which meant I had to short shift for the remainder of the race. Made a few places back, but crossed the line with 0.2L to spare :sweatdrop:

I like these endurance races (although I do appreciate that they are too long for some of our regulars). Last night proved how they can really add another dimension to the racing.

Congrats to the pacey pody  :alien:

And thanks to Matt for putting this series on for us  8)

So what do you mean? Was it your way to compliment me? If you mean this ..... thank you very much.  :thumbup1:

My race was difficult at first to maintain contact with Donato, but at the pitstop I had a big advantage when refueling in less seconds of him, then it was a race against loss of concentration.

Thank you all for the correctness of the track and in the forum and the staff for the excellent organization.
Ciao

Hate to admit it but i've checked and the Mini I drove is a Group 5 car, not a Group 2 entry...

Bye, bye record  :'(
