(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

That's appreciated but you need to have Admin status. No worries as I have a cunning plan..................

This track isn't the same as the P&G one but I will run a check tonight and see if there's a problem. We last ran this track in 2009!

EDIT: Track tested and start/timer works fine.

So both Beemer's and both Opel's etc

Yesterdays (03/03/2014) server outage continues today with a likelihood that our Windows install has been corrupted. Picnic is investigating.

If I am unable to get on to the server tonight to setup the next two races then they may be cancelled.

I'm hoping that Matt may be able to step up again but I am aware that he is often away from base so this may not be possible.

After tomorrow I will be relying on Thai hotel wi-fi so I may not be able to post here.

Thanks to great efforts by Picnic the server is back and GTL is running

IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ THIS

Two weeks races are now running under one GTL server. For this race you must have both tracks (Pembrey & Melbourne) installed in your GTL install. All of the cars for both races are available. Do not enter a race with the wrong car  ::) If you arrive in the lobby and the wrong track is showing it's no problem. Continue into online GTL and go to Chat then select Event to force GTL to load the correct track. If your alone you will not need to vote. Just wait and the next track will load.

Ehhmm, dumb question... is it sufficient if i only install the Pembrey track (and not all the cars) as i am not expecting to race there?

Late to look at this thread, I will do any admin that is required.
And mostly my server is booted and I can admin it remotely if needed.

Hi guys,

I just got word of an appointment on the evening of this event, which in worst case will finish around 20.30h. So i will have to race home to get to the start on time. I was really looking forward to this series and i would be sad if i had to miss out on this one.
Would it be possible to delay the race start with a minute or 10 for this once?  This would give me enough of a window to make the start.

No problem with me  :)

Tried a couple of the Beemers yesterday.  Neither had a Motec display.  I've seen them in silly positions before, being obscured by steering wheel and/or driver hands, but don't recall ever coming across a car without it.  Is it supposed to be like this ? - if anyone knows.

Cheers,
Erling

I should be able to admin this event ok. I will set the number of laps to something around 40 mins
and I will start the server a few minutes later than normal.

Driven the 2002TiiS and have Xd.  I can't get the full instrument display to work so I'm using the car dashboard gauges and the Tacho there is OK. Also there is an orange rev limiter light which you can use for upward changes.

A few minutes delay is OK with me too.  ;D

Hmmmmm, :-\  ???

The problem with so many choices is that you need some criteria for making a sensible selection!!

I think I might employ a well known scientific method that guarantees a meaningful result by clear statistical analysis of all available empirical data and stick a pin in the list!!

Clive, the circuit is quite twisty with few power straights so a nimble car may have an advantage here. The beemer is well suited and is also the fastest car for this kind of circuit. The mini should be good here too and the Porsche should be competitive?

Also consider the Escort here. It's the slowest car of the series (probably) but will suit this circuit well and for a tactical drive it would be my choice.

Hi guys, i tried to get on the server last night for some practice. However when i got on it showed no track and could not advance to next session. The monitor was blank and noted "nothing". Tried to force next session/event to no avail. Could someone confirm if they can get on track? I'll try again tomorrow.
oh, i have the Pembrey track installed too.

Just tried some of these cars around the track.

Jeez what a difference between them!!! just my views here for what they are worth....

The BMW's are certainly instant favourites in my eyes, smooth and quick with only minor tweaks

the Porker is OK but I find it a bit nervous over any kerbs.

The Opel's are the best sounding cars    with that magic grumble and crackle on the engine overrun ( but that won't win any points unfortunately)

The Escort is nimble, but I found that it struggled for outright pace..maybe that's me and the setup?

The Nissan I have yet to try but I am expecting it to be quick on the straight bits.

The mini looks underpowered against the bigger cars here, but I suspect that someone will hustle it around at an impressive rate!

That was quite good fun until I mistook the clutch for the brake... ah well, pulled off one outrageous pass with my eyes closed <ahem>

Mini was GREAT fun here because you could brake VERY late. Might have done better if I had downloaded the track before 8pm... didn't quite feel I really knew the layout... sorry to anyone I got in the way of, especially Eiffelblitz who I surprised with my overbraking.

Only good enough for some single fast practicing laps at the moment.

Dropped to last within first two laps or so, was unable to pass Bill and Paul in the
Minis - which were fast through the corners, strong on brakes and not slow enough
on the straights - due to the tricky behaviour/setup of the Beemer.
So I lost motivation and quit.
The Mini would have been the better choice for me.

CU next time

Tactical choice going for the Escort here and was hoping I'd have a few battles but soon found myself in a gap to front and rear. Tried to apply some pressure for the last few laps as Erling was making his way past backmarkers but I overcooked it and ended up in the kitty litter  ::)

Nice drive Erling and a well deserved win  8)

Well whaddayaknow, it IS possible to win a race with Goldtop in it - shame of course that it takes a much faster car to do so..  ;)

Didn't expect to win this one, but naturally very happy about it.  A troublefree but also lonely race; except for Goldtop's company in the early laps, I didn't see anyone until passing backmarkers late in the race - hope I didn't interfere too much with your duel guys.

Love the Beemer; the noise, the way it drives, it's just 'right' somehow.  Whoever made this car for GTL did one helluva job!!
It's going to be a teary eyed goodbye, once I've used up my 3 allotments.

Sad to see my teammate retire though; hope the next round will be better Kurt.

Btw, I think we all deserve a pat on the back for getting through the start, and the first few corners without (serious) incidents.

Thanks Gt; I did wonder what happened when the gap suddenly jumped from around 11 secs to 27, and decided my pit crew needed a good spanking for putting out such an erroneous board. Good thing I didn't get round to do it yet..  ;D

Erling

Looking forward to the next one in this series.

That was a really interesting Race, at least for me, had a good start jumped from 4th to 2nd place before the first corner, but did a small mistake later and Goldtop passed me so I cruised in 3rd place till the chequered flag .... The Beemer is a beautiful car to drive on this track.

That was my first podium....   :thumbup2:

See u next week

An extremely enjoyable nights racing (guess I'd better forget about moaning about my brakes after this race and concentrate on driving).  New PBs in qual and race and battles throughout the race, also only lapped by the winner - Erling certainly seemed to be enjoying his race by the way he slipped down the inside of me on the approach to a slow right hander, touch of brakes and off into the distance.

Made a good start and avoided any first lap contact, had early battles with Kurt and Paul.  About half way through race noticed Clive was slowly but surely closing me down I started to push as hard as I could, made a couple of minor errors and he was on my tail I managed to brake as late as I dared and put power down as soon as possible and managed just stay ahead to the finish it was hard going but satisfying.  Thanks for giving me racing room, EvilClive the Gentleman.  ;D

I think my lack of experience with car choices around here does me no favours. I went for the Opel simply because it was different and sounded good. I had done a 2:16 with a Beemer offline within 3 laps, so I'm sure I could have squeezed another second out of that car...still not on the pace of the fast guys, but respectable I guess?

My race was screwed when I clipped a kerb in T1 on the 3rd lap and stuffed the nose into the wall, it took me far too long to a) restart the engine...b)stall it coz its in 3rd gear, get it into neutral........c)  restart the engine......d) drop the clutch in reverse and stall......e) start the engine ..................... I think you are getting the picture?

After that it was a case of throwing the huge Opel around and trying to hunt down the cars in front... a long way in front!!  I made a couple of errors and lost time I had gained, but slowly I the mini ahead got bigger until with about 4 laps to go I was on his tail.
The last laps were a David and Goliath battle as I struggled to make my extra power negate that mini and his ruddy late braking and quick cornering. I got alongside a couple of times but I had to brake earlier or I knew I would simply flatten Bill and his mini at the next apex  ::).

Great fun and a fascinating battle, I wish we had had a few more laps of that Bill  ;)

I think I am still not punishing these cars enough, as I finished the race with same engine health as I started 99% and all tyres still at least 90% good and green. Maybe it is time to get more nasty with them lol.

Grats to the winners and I am enjoying the learning curve in these tin tops  ;D

I was in the 911 1972 model, which doesn't seem to exist in our cars list, thought the other did so I did it as "dummy" rather than
delay the results. I couldn't keep any of the other cars on the track for long as I lost the back end under braking
in all of them.

Yes a few more laps would have been fun.  I drove the Mini in a Mini v Escort Series last season and feel I could have kept going for a few more laps - first time since PC fixed I've been able to get in the grove.  Also I think some of us found last season that it's not the tyres that screw the big heavy cars but the front brakes.  They show red in Xd (Mini still all green) and near end of race tend to snatch on braking causing the car to spin.

I think the next race at Imola 88 will restore me to my usual position.  ::)  ;D

Sorting car for Imola 88, I have Porsche 1972 911S  in my list of cars.

I was in the 911 1972 model, which doesn't seem to exist in our cars list, thought the other did so I did it as "dummy" rather than
delay the results. I couldn't keep any of the other cars on the track for long as I lost the back end under braking
in all of them.

That doesn't sound right Bill - Imola race is in the 'World Championship of Makes' series, so it should be the 'monster cars'.  Finding one to drive is quite a dilemma - they all seem ill suited to all those chicanes and high curbs..  :-\

Cheers,
Erling

Sorry Tony.  I was trying to point out to Matt that the Porsche 1972 911S is probably the car he used as it's part of the car download for that RACE Series.

I have no problem with the Porsche 906-03 that I will drive at Imola 88.  Sorry for confusion.

Be nice to have you back but expect it'll be a culture shock to get back here just in time for Winter's return.  ::)

You are correct Bill. What I was telling TOny was that car does not appear to be in the list on LM2i
so when we do the results it refuses because the car is not in the database, so I left it as "unknown"
for the time being. When we do the results and there are cars/drivers that it (LM2i) has not seen before in an event
we have to select them from a "known" pre-created list, and it wasn't in the list, which is controlled by Dave Gymer
from car lists we supply whenever we get a new version/mod.

It happens a lot that we have to confirm the car or driver for the results, but normally they will be
in the list it offers us for confirmation, this one wasn't.

It's not the same thing as what we download for the race.

Thanks Matt for explanation, I'm always in trouble at home for trying to be helpful. It's me frontal lobes y'no. ;)

Yes a few more laps would have been fun.  I drove the Mini in a Mini v Escort Series last season and feel I could have kept going for a few more laps - first time since PC fixed I've been able to get in the grove.  Also I think some of us found last season that it's not the tyres that screw the big heavy cars but the front brakes.  They show red in Xd (Mini still all green) and near end of race tend to snatch on braking causing the car to spin.

Hang on, hang on!!!  Just wind back a bit here for a total ignoramous on PnG stuff......"it's not the tyres that screw the big heavy cars but the front brakes.  They show red in Xd (Mini still all green) and near end of race tend to snatch on braking causing the car to spin."

I have the XD display working and I think that I thought that I understand about the tyre wear indicators but,  what is this about brakes and wear rates etc??!!!!  Is that the little numbers alongside the tyre wear indicators?? and how do I interpret those?

Sorry for delay in answering this - didn't want to give you duff gen.  Xd_readme give basic info on MoTech readings; Vitum.de gives info on improvements in all updtes, V.2.0.0 added brake wear.

When you look at the MoTech display the coloured bands show the tyre and brake info, the figures at the top show the tyre temperatues across the tyre and the outer green/orange/red band shows the tyre wear.  As you use up the wear the green band starts to decrease from the top until only the red band is left.  At this stage your brakes are knackered and the brakes tend to snatch and spin the car.  To get the brakes fixed you need to do a pit stop to change the tyres on the offending axle, as well as changing the tyres the brake wear band is returned to the starting position.

Trust this helps Clive

aha!!  I think I understand now, thanks Bill.   I just could not recall seeing anything about brakes.

TBH it had not even occurred to me that GTL might model brake wear  ::). and anyway, brakes are for wimps!  ;D
